I absolutely love clam digging! We used to go when we were kids, living on the Olympic coast in Sequim, Washington. Our whole family would go. So much fun! Looks like you had a great time! Loved seeing how to clean razor clams. I’ve never clammed for razor clams, but I tend to this year. We always got the little neck clams, I think! So many good meals to make with clams!
When our friends and family come over the mountains to dig, we always go down and dig a couple of limits along with them to make their trip worthwhile, but cleaning clams is back breaking work... My grandson's marching band was in the parade down there on Sunday.... Someday when you have a lot of extra try smoking the clams for a short time and canning them, they make great clam dip.

It’s funny because the next day the clams were half of a clam gone deep, but they weren’t showing as well as the day we were out there and it just depends on the day I guess and the spot you’re in but super fun I don’t mind at all. I loved every minute of it and we’re going back I’m gonna bring you along.

My Mom could dig razor clams like nobody's business. I never caught on. But I could dig mud clams. Those were good too. But they closed off where we used to clam dig and made it a national reserve. Now I buy razor clams at a local seafood store.

How timely! We are leaving tomorrow to camp for 3 nights and dig clams for 3 days at Long Beach - our first time, since moving up here last year. Will make clam ceviche one night, and fried clams another night, then clam chowder and your clam dip when we get home. Can't wait! (You've convinced me to switch out my gallon freezer bags for quart-sized!) I've seen videos on pressure canning these clams - have you done that? Wondering if they would get tough.

I've never seen anyone clam digging, so I gotta say I'd love to do that myself. Something I'm putting on my bucket list.
If you were in an area that they have clam digging available right now is the time and look for those low tides and it’s super fun. It’s easy once you get the hang of it.

I only have had clams in the can. I'm not sure where I'd buy them except I'm on the no meat challenge. I canned clam starter with 2leelou a couple of years ago. I just got a jar from the pantry and they were just like the day I canned them. I must look to see how many small jars of clams I have to make another batch. Thanks Linda, you are an adventurous gal.

Linda if you put your clams in salt water after you get them up to your truck they will clean all the sand out of them selves. I just get a bucket of ocean water to put them in Im glad you had fun. Also I clean my clams by cutting them into 2 pieces the clam and the digger I find its much easier to clean that way
I do the same with salt water in a bucket and then drive 2.5 hours back home to Vancouver, WA
I live in the north and have never tried a razor clam. I would love to see what you do with them. It was interesting to watch you dig for them and clean them.

Just found this video looking back on your previous ones. It's right up my alley as I am a Washington gal like you. I usually go to Ocean Shores/Copalis Beach but Long Beach is by far more beautiful I think. Also, can't you still drive quite a ways on the beach there? Been a fan of Linda's Pantry from back in the Nevada days.
In Maine our clams are much smaller. After rinsing several times I put in the crisper drawer with cornmeal & pepper to clear grit from bellies. Then steam them. Love dipped in buttah, left overs are frozen for chowdah or deep fried. How is the texture of the razor clams?
I remember clam digging as a little girl with my parents, mostly i remember getting my boots always stuck in the mud 😊. Thanks for showing the whole process, ive never seen the cleaning done before. 👍🏻

They are delicious
I do three or four per bag, for my husband and myself, using the short rectangular snack size bags. Those bags are then placed in a qt size bag that is labeled with the date. One year, we had a house full of guests and we had over 100 clams, and I caught my son putting them all into a giant freezer bag. That would have been a disaster! I had to explain to him that a giant block of frozen clams doesn't do anybody any good.
Yeah they’re big the problem is you wanna have some one day and possibly leftovers the next day
Well those are really big I never thought they were that big. I love clams but unfortunately i'm just not in an area that I can get them.
I had never seen anything like that either until I moved up here and I am hooked. They are so sweet and delicious and tender. It’s a delicacy for sure.

Thank you, Linda. That was educational. I could be wrong, but I don't think that we dig clams in Tennessee. We do something down here with mussels. Not sure what. However, we do certainly know how to fish! Looking forward to watching you prepare the clams.
