Lol, my brilliant words at the end! Forever lost! I think I left the mic case open and we were hearing the other mic, or it died. Whoops. Sorry about that. Nothing mind blowing was said I am sure. Just me saying I like HvZ for all the goofball stuff that comes out.

Taking all the good topics I see. This has definitely been on my mind for a good year. I've always hoped that high fps and competitive games could serve the needs of part of our hobby as I do enjoy having them in my rotation. I worry that many of become infatuated with only this style of play to the point where they make casual/lower fps games less fun and legitimately might have more fun playing airsoft...

We should do another stream sometime, we could probably chat about just this for awhile (and hyper). I enjoy high FPS stuff too, it’s certainly cool and I’m not against it, it just has its moments, and not as many moments as other stuff for me.
It’s a good point about airsoft, when you get to a certain FPS, and certain concern about accuracy, WOULD you be happier with an airsoft G? I dunno. And again, there’s nothing wrong with airsoft. I hardly even know what I’m trying to say, other than to shake my first attempt at the clouds and say, remember to have fun too kids! We have all those types of darts, let’s use em!

As someone living in the UK I hear you! There's only one pro blaster available here and it's the X-Shot Longshot. As a result there's basically no pro or competitive scene here. We're playing with family and friends in a back garden or in the house and they are not that big! Pro Nerfing here is a spectator sport, watching all the Americans in UA-cam talk about Adventure Force. Sure, some people import them, or mod their own, but very few.

As someone new to the hobby, I completely agree with all of your points. I blindly bought a nexus pro x seeing how a lot of people were gushing about it & after being tagged by it I realized how potentially harmful it can be without taking safety precautions. Furthermore it made me realize a big part of what makes flinging foam special is anyone can pick up a 70-100 fps blaster without any specialty gear & have a great goofy time. With that said, I really do enjoy the high fps stuff for target shooting, but not for play against other nerfers.

I feel the same TBH. I have so much fun just shooting darts at cans sometimes and they don't have to be 200fps especially in the house. Love this chill video format too!

AMEN! I couldn't agree with you more. The most fun I have had at our local group was running the obscure blasters that no one knew. The night I pulled out my Khaos and its 6 magazines was epic! The younger kids had never seen a ball hose like that. Shortly after that Perses, Nemesis' and Prometheus' started showing up. My favorite goofy blaster has to be the Boomdozer, the everyone loves trying to avoid the big blue meanie darts, they also make great throwables. Like Capt. Xavier has said, if you can't have fun why bother.

Bit of the same here. Fortunately I have now the possibility to attend on 200+ events, that was not the case just 2 years ago. But it started with modded Retaliators, Nexus pro and co. with around 150 FPS. Then it got higher and higher. I got the Harrier and dialled it down from 285 to 200, just not to have the advantage of power, even if you are not a good shot, it definitely is like cheating. Now I will have to get back higher, because Kirins and Seaguls appeared with 300-245 FPS. It is hard to keep up with this. My concern is not this anyway, surprisingly, but now AEGs come in the picture with full auto on 200… it just makes everything airsoft like.
But i am fully a short dart fan, it is just frustrating to shoot visibly 2 meters left or right with those fishtailing horror elite darts :)

Gimmie Gimmicks any day every day. Pro things are fine and dandy, but it's all pump grip springer and fly wheeler mag-in-grip. This hobby is about fun, so let's have more of the *fun* things. I personally like modding a fun blaster to 100 or so than bothering with the pro things, making the effort we once made to actually accomplish some noteworthy results just feels better to me.

I agree with you, friend. Can't keep harping on high fps all the time, there is a time for high ones and a time for low fps and casual games.
I hosts casual games at a community center once a month on Sunday.
Max velocity capped at 130 fps. Families and any first timers are welcome.
Casual games; you make goofy game rules, everyone play and laugh.
Too many hgh FPS games can sometimes end up dissuade new players to join.
At worst, they swore off foam blasting.

I love the occasional inaccuracy or unpredictability after 25-30ft. My hook into this was the thrill of being able to narrowly dodge a dart.
People often mention FPS caps but I dont think that alone is sufficient. It certainly doesnt capture or protect the play style I enjoy.

I agree with you 100% that there is an over saturated market when it comes to pro blasters. Somewhat related and I’d love your opinion on this: most stock blasters can shoot fine if you have new darts otherwise the dart just plops out and is a terrible play experience. The “pro” stuff out there using sealed breaches allows darts to work pretty well almost regardless of the darts age. For example: What about a x-shot rev 6 that had straight or a lot less tapered barrels and a slightly longer body so you could have a slightly stronger/lomger spring while maintaining the ease of the prime. These two changes bringing the rev6 to 100 fps would make it amazing. On your other video you mentioned that front load blisters are great for kids and as someone who runs casual stuff for kids I agree. Stock blasters only seem to work with new darts otherwise they are more frustrating than fun. Would love your thoughts

Great video. I agree with your take. We got into Nerf and always played with stock blasters when my kiddos were little and then as they got older we moved on to pro blasters. However our game last weekend had stock blasters only battles to start the day and wow what a blast. I do like the spicy pro games they are awesome but it was so much fun getting back to what the three of us fell in love with. Keep up the great work. Really like the fire side chat format.

I feel that kids overestimate how safe foam blasters are, likr if it shoots foam then its perfectly safe to fire at people without eye protection. If only kids treated them like real steel.

I hear ya! My local Nerf group only plays outdoors in public parks, so pro spec blasters are helpful for the longer ranges we play at, but I'll admit I'm getting a little fatigued by the FPS creep. Anything over 150 FPS just heckin' hurts to get by and being in pain definitely takes some of the fun out of the game, so I'm not a fan of all the 200 FPS blasters floating around now; and it doesn't help that my local group has no FPS cap whatsoever. In any case, I'm pretty happy with my Tomcat that I downgraded to around 145 FPS with a 788 spring and my MK-II for a sidearm. At this point the only thing that might interest me in a pro blaster is a flywheel version of the Tomcat, but short of that I'm good on the pro stuff.
On a more positive note though, man do I ever love that new Desperado! It feels like a perfect sidearm to go with my Villainator, or any feel length dart primary you might want to run! Such a cool and fun little blaster ❤

There's room in my life for both, we run 100fps and 150fps games locally and I have tons of fun doing both. Another local group does 100, 150 and 200, but barely anyone even has 200fps blasters. I keep blasters running the gamut between 80-150 fps, so I'm equipped for any local caps. I like bringing rival to 100fps or less games, helps even the playing field between me and smaller kids since its less accurate. I made it to the end lol. We strongly encourage people bring out the weird stuff for 100fps or less, it'd be so boring if it was all perses and stryfes as far as the eye can see.

I'm still new to the hobby, I've only been to one day at Fort Borst. I agree with a lot you said about high FPS games being unfriendly to casuals; I had a great time during most of the day but was completely uninterested in doing the 200 FPS lunchtime speed rounds. I also understand that not everyone has access to a 100 meter long outdoor playfield where high FPS blasters make sense.
Most of my play with my Nexus Pro X is plinking in the backyard at about 20 meters to target. The default 200 FPS spring is just about right for me there. I once put in the Dart Zone high power spring and it was way too much for my purposes. I can't really imagine ever playing a game with that power level.
FWIW last month at Borst they ran one game of "full-length hammer primed blaster only HvZ." Basically Hammershots only. It was hilarious. Given the proliferation of types of blasters I think it would be cool to come up with more gear-restricted games. Maybe a "Rival-only" game or a "full length only" game, to break up the streak of detuned pro-level half dart blaster games.

Agree! Variety is good! I'm not advocating for high FPS stuff to go away or anything, just like, a reminder of what makes the hobby so accessible for everyone! I actually think 160 FPS is just about perfect. Easily achieved via mod, gives some wiggle room if we go over 150 lol, more distance but pain isn't too bad.

@maritimefoam I couldn't agree more! I was introduced to some fun objective based games at the last 160 war. These games definitely ran smoother with less "nerf snipers" and required teams to be more aggressive with getting in close.

I get your thoughts, I really do. HvZ has become my favorite game type. As such, I can either detune “pro” level blasters or modify the elite standard blasters to at least a respectable fps. 120-130fps seems like a nice sweet spot.

I'm a collector and a plinker . I own from very low fps blasters to high fps blasters . People kept bashing me like "it's better to spend your money on seagull harrier blablabla" like okay ??? Idc much about those because I don't use em for games . I've been quite busy and can't join games . I just enjoy spending my free time shooting at targets , just do some reload ASMRs . I do have my sweet spot in terms of fps which is around HVZ level . But honestly I don't really care much about all the pro stuffs for games . Yeah it's cool with the BCARs , I also own couple of BCARs , I own bunch of dart types , I do mod my blasters to bump up the fps , but do you really have to bash me for collecting stuffs that I love and keep saying buy seagull buy seagull buy harrier why waste money on junk blasters ? I already own a pink kirin and that's enough . I can turn my kirin into an almost 300fps kirin if I want to but I decided not to do it . I enjoy using it around 100ish fps . I own quite few N series also . I love collecting jolts . It's just that idk , I feel frustrated with all these "pro" stuffs . Idk how to say it but hope you get my point

Honestly, I remember a Nerf UA-camr ( I think a Philips? Idk) talking about the JingZhe Awakening, and although that's a pretty high performance blaster (200 some odd fps, easily moddable to 300 I'm sure) it's also not a competition blaster because it's a one-shot wonder. He mentioned that it honestly brought something new to the game and actually felt really fun! And then I realized that a competition for one shot blasters would honestly be REALLY fun! Even without FPS limits it brings something new because there's no real fire rate unless you bring a Blackbeard costume and fire off 5 Jolts in a general direction (which is fun anyways so there's that too)!
But yeah, even with higher powered pro blasters being more available now I still think there's a time and a place, and I certainly wouldn't recommend bringing an X-Shot Longshot to a game where kids are running N-Series blasters. I think categorizing blasters and fps ranges into stock elite, HvZ, stock pro and full power is a good solution. Especially so I can make a custom Mega XL hand cannon in the style of the JingZhe and make sure it's within proper FPS limits for public use, then make several more of them and hand them out for kicks and giggles at a local Nerf war 🤠

People find their way in the hobby towards what speaks to them. And I think it's good that we have that breadth of playtypes. I like a blend of the silly and the serious. Getting good with a good blaster is fun, and getting away with dumb plays with a dumb blaster is fun.
Dart blasting has always been seen as childish and in a way. For better or for worse, the competitive scene needs to take itself seriously to gain legitimacy.
And I think it there will always be a difference between airsoft, paintball, and dart blasting. Capacity is such a big deal in how games are played. In paintball you can top off you gun without ever stopping your constant spray of paintballs because it is an HPA hopper. Airsoft has hundreds, if not thousands of rounds onboard with a fully automatic AEG. Nerf has springers and flywheels, both with strengths and weaknesses. And at most you have a few dozen rounds of ammo in total split up amongst your mags. I don't think that is going to change much even with higher and higher FPS.

I appreciate the pro performance blasters existing, but... I don't really have much interest in them.
They all seem kind of the same. For instance, what is realistically the difference between the nexus pro x and... idk, the worker harrier? Or the gameface trion? Hardly any differences at all as far as I can tell. Or hell, how many magazine fed semi-auto pro performance flywheelers, 3d printed or otherwise, are there at this point? It's all kinda same-y to me.
I actually prefer non-pro blasters, as wierd as that may sound. Yeah, a lot of those are similar too, but usually they'll have a unique apearance to stand out from the crowd. And there's always blaster with unique quirks out there too. I mean, the x-shot insanity mad mega barrel for instance is something you'd never see if pro performance blasters were the only ones in existance.
It's also kind of annoying to constantly see people claim a blaster "sucks" just because it doesn't have the capacity to compete with pro blasters, or that elite 2.0 should have been a pro line. This just completely misses the point of the blasters existing in the first place; to be fun. I don't care that the motoblitz doesn't hit 150 fps. I don't care that an x-shot skins dread is too large to use as a secondary. I don't even care that an eaglepoint is so big with it only having 8 shots.
They weren't made with pro games in mind. They were suposed to be fun to play with. And if people have fun playing with those blasters... then I'd argue they do exactly what they're suposed to do.
Gosh, this is such a long comment, I got a little carried away there, sorry!

I also think with all of the nerftubers I watch all getting to the point of 'how many more mag-fed-pump-action-springers do we need' / '200fps is too high' I think that we are reaching the triplepoint of accessibility/ cost/ power.

This is extremely real, I've only bought 2 "pro" level blasters, and it's the dictator and outlaw, specifically because they have cool gimmicks, I think it's great that we have comp ready pump action mag fed springers for 50 bucks on store shelves but there's space for so many cool things that aren't just comp blasters. Maybe it's the pro branding that's locked PTT/Dart Zone into not straying too far from the standard formula, but I've loved the result every time they have. Hopefully future entries will be sillier, and the stryker 2.0 having a funny gimmick in the mixed ammo feed I think is a step in the right direction, though I think they can go further.

At my local group, we primarily play 250 fps outdoors for normal gamemodes, but sometimes, we’ll have pistols only at 150 fps or gimmick rounds under 100 fps. Doing these once in a while really brings a change of pace and has its own kind of fun, so I think having variety is what works best for us.

Ive been over them for awhile. My boys are both under 10 so we are years away from me getting to smack them upside their beautiful little heads w darts shot from my pro blasters. I still enjoy making stuff hit harder but never getting to really use them is killing me and the fun. The desperado came at a great time for playing w them. PRO has killed the chance of getting many if any more cool themes from nerf. Xshot it trying but i dont see many weird lines of blasters coming around anytime soon. And i agree w the paintball comparison. Ive never wanted to play w a paint hose or milsim weirdos. Im in it for the kids my kids

Great video and better discustion! which I feel most are hyping "pro" 150FPS+, accurate, half dart balsters is... They are new and bring nerf inline with other shooting sports... I love my desprato and Trion alot, they both got me back into the hobby after a break with airsoft and my off and on relationship with VR. But they both scare me to death and both need eyepro/emise respect. Why the despy has no safety of anykind and it's hard not to realod it barrel pointed at eye... Takes alot of displine to not do that... it's an 8+ $8 blaster... On the other hadnd the troin has a safety but to make it acrate out of the box you need to add stiock moded spacer to make it 200fps... The joules it puts out is intense luckly you can get a scar to my the 140FPS hit things... Which the despy I love because it's a common real steel concpt done well and trulies sequals the mavick my favoite nerf balaster and the trion fixs what I hate about nerf and airsoft... You don't miss you gun/dart does... Hard to get reps in if your equipment is the weaklink.

Yeah I'm very much the same. I'd be more interested in pro if they weren't all the same. Pro is just boring because it's all the same pump action magfed thing. I wish someone would do something different. People are actually crying out for rocket launchers, shotguns, boltaction snipers... grenade shell things. There's still a huge market for gimmicks too. Like my favourite blasters are not the harrier or the trion, it's stuff like the bread machine and the gl-06. Silly things. As I said... I go away from pump action and I love to use the apx. People look at me weird when I say it but I prefer the apx over anything else. I see what coop got tired of. There's no real fun in the hobby anymore everyones just running the same blaster. Nerf is becoming like paintball...

I really don't like the way that toys are going these days. Two companies that come to mind are hasbro and lego. All we are seeing these days are boring non creative designs, lack luster play features, and most of all EXPENSIVE toys. Like why are these things so expensive and boring when they are meant for kids. Plain bland cookie cutter designs without the main thing that people loved, fun.

Wait, what do you disagree with? I’m just saying I am personally pro blastered out, I don’t fault them for existing. People buy em, that’s great. I’m just saying leave room for lower cap and variety of play.

1:36 wgat like airsoft,bb and real steel? Like I buaght my first airsoft guns at 13 years old from walmart of the gun section self and I'm 29 years old now... Like I really don't see a big deal... Which remeber it took nearly 300 years for most states to get strict on age limits with some real steel and nerf is nerf your not going to war with it so who cares?

@@maritimefoam Like right now I can go to my local Walmart and buy an Airsoft, BB and AR-15 off the self at Walmart here in Floirda with that AR-15 fully caple of fighting a reeal war all I need is be over 18 years old and have a clean record... If the "Shoot your eye out" campaign comes for Nerf guns why would they jump over Airsoft guns and BB guns and go to or as suggested over above the level needed to get an war fighting gun at least is some states?

@@maritimefoam also at 1:36 you say that like astriliia isn't trying to ban airsoft and nerf anyway without a major incednt... So yeah I don't get your point... Like if canda wants to ban nerf for being in to many sacry scifi movies it will like t did with anything mall ninja related it will.

Our group raised the FPS cap to 240 soft, 250 hard… it was 200 before that.
I thought it was a little too high at 200 because we have Littles playing with 14+… now… I’m uncomfortable with it.
I personally love higher fps games, but not with Littles unless they are already using equal/similar arms…

    • @maritimefoam
