JK hated the fact that Malfoy had a Fanbase to the point where she straight up, said that he had no redeeming qualities, and then he had quote was not hiding a heart of gold.”
I think part of what makes Draco's character so compelling to audiences is not because he's a good person or even ends up as a good person but rather because his character is a commentary on how a person's upbringing can affect a person negatively and is the primary contributor of prejudice. And while that prejudice is never fully revoked or redeemed, it doesn't mean that he is incapable of doing acts of good. Both goodness and darkness exists within Draco simultaneously. Which is definitely an interesting and nuanced take, especially for a book series aimed at children.
What the truth boils down to is this: not all slytherins are evil but most evil people (not adolescent bullies, but cruel and criminal adults) came from or were in Slytherin.
Being put in Slytherin means you have ambitious tendencies, not that you are a bad person or a bully. We just see more of that on screen. Bullies come from every house! Luna was bullied by fellow Ravenclaws, Snape was bullied by 4 bright Gryffindors and so on.
You forgot Snape.... He was 'the bravest man' and he lost the love of his life, she got married to someone who bullied Snape a lot. And later lily and James died in the hands of Voldemort. Snape only loved lily and was the only person he cared about. He was honestly the bravest man I ever knew 😭🥺❤️
Yes but you can’t forget that snape also bullies children, and called lily a mudblood. Snape is definitely brave for doing what he did, but I wouldn’t say he was ‘the bravest man’ when a literal 11 year old boy had to face Voldemort by himself and did so without a second thought to save his friends.. and the world, like 20 times. 🤷🏻♀️
@@Bluedhalias he only bullied harry because he looked like his father James and James bullied him a lot. He called lilly a mudblood and regretted it for his entire life, he thought he was responsible for her death when it clearly wasn't. Don't forget lilly called Severus 'snivellus' one time and said he didn't want to be snapes friend anymore because he had other friends who knew dark magic. Snape had to go through years of bullying himself, and was a double agent working with Dumbledore and Voldemort
Draco tried to be friends and partner up with Harry when they first met, but Harry refused. Harry too can be very stubborn. His father wasn't exactly good himself either always bullying Snape. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. There's no such thing as good and evil, it's all perception.
To be fair, it's not like the assessments are objective without the hat, they're more like a choice of which one you think is cooler. being a hufflepuff outside the story means you think being a nice guy is cooler than bravery, ambition and wisdom. what kind of a person would choose that?
People seem to wanna lump slytherin as the evil house but it'd really not. Cunning and ambition are the foundations for the house surely but it's how we use our talents
In the second half of the series the Golden Trio’s always being helped out by Slytherins. Snape becomes a double-agent for their cause, Lucius was so bad at being a bad guy he couldn’t even steal a snowglobe, Slughorn reluctantly gives Harry the memory he needed to end Voldy for good, Andromeda lets the Order stay at her place, Draco lies to Bellatrix about not recognizing “Saint Pottah”, and Narcissa lies to Voldemort about Harry being dead. And there were many other decent slytherins (many added in later works as part of their attempts to patch up the “why does it still exist” plot hole) like Regulus, the wayward Gaunts Rionach (ancestor of the witch who founded Ilvermorny), Ominis and Noctua, Merlin, Professor Sharp, not to mention Albus Potter and Scorpius (the fact that they were good slytherins is one of the few parts of CC I deem canon).
I only wish that we'd seen more 'good' Slytherins, before HBP. Aside from being Pure-Blood Supremacists, they can't all openly support Voldemort. Even the actions of Pansy in DH could be explained as them not wanting to fight their families. It should be noted that some Slytherins did come back with Horace in the book.
Malfoy was irredeemable in the books as Rowling intended. To the point she asked the directors to cut a scene of him throwing his wand to Harry to help him in a battle.
Andromeda Tonks, Leta Lestrange, Merlim, Scorpius and Albus Severus Potter were also from the House of the Slytherin, embodied with their kind of ambition, they never shared the prejudice traits towards the Muggles, also, if you pay attention to the books and the films as well, the House of Slytherin was fighting for Hogwarts too. We love our house, and our friends of other houses. We are not malignant just because we want to reach the top, some of us couldn’t even hurt a ant, tough.
If I'm not wrong, according to the book, all the members of Slytherin house walked off, refusing to fight in the second wizarding war. Only Horace Slughorn fought to defend Hogwarts.
Not every slytherin are bad their ideals just were on the muggles injustice side. They are quite ambitious. You would always see them aspire for the best.
In Hogwarts Legacy, a lot of the slytherins are respected and a lot are kind. Sebastian Sallow is a real kind-hearted and brave kid, also from Slytherin. Essentially it's just down to how you become a dark wizard I'd say.
Yeah. It may not exactly be a perfect analogy, but it's like Vaapad users from Star Wars. They toe the line between the Dark and the Light Side, and many had fallen to the Dark Side simply because of their constant proximity to it, so to speak. And we've seen plenty of evidence of a Wizard's influence affect items and places, almost like a Horcrux, but in general. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Salazar Slytherin made sure that his own ambitions and beliefs in a way psychically permeated his House.
I'm a Slytherin myself, so I'm not hating, but... do you realize Merlin actually lived long long before the four founders founded Hogwarts? It's technically not possible for him to be a Slytherin, even though I like the idea... Rowling hates Slytherins so much that she never came up with a good Slytherin character and just randomly said Merlin in an interview to redeem herself
Snape, Slughorn and Malfoy all took heroic choices to stand up to Voldemort. Even Draco's mother defied Voldemort to protect her son. Love is the greatest weapon.
Malfoy was evil... he also just happened to be a coward... He was originally in support of Voldemort.. he disagreed solely because Voldy kept on threatening his family....
Every parents want they children the best. Lucius thought its the best way of living, it doesnt make him a bad father. And also there is an age when people can decide whats the best for themselves. And Draco should have decide if he wants to be a death eater and also at first he was happy to be a death eater (Narcissa also said)
Nah man, Lucius was not doing it for the good of his child. He did it because he signed his life away to that and he didn’t regret it, so how would his son? Actually, I need time to think that one through
Ok, Lucius joined the Death Eaters because he wanted power and to be among the likeminded. He killed various wizards because they were against him and hated his choice. Plus, he was a pureblood fanatic, most wizards against him refused that ideology. He expected his son to follow his steps because it was family tradition
People often forget Regulus Black, who gave his life to get his hands on a horcrux, and even left a small tip for those who wish to stop Voldemort, because he himself couldn't do it. There you go, a Slytherin that was in a way a good guy fighting for the good side without any specific reason. I stand corrected, I just re-read some parts from the books(I own Half-Blood Prince and an e-book of The Deathly Hallows), and it seems he was a loyal servant of Voldemort, but changed his mind when Voldemort used Kreacher for his cruel school horcrux experiment. Meanwhile, Regulus gave his life for Kreacher. Nobody messes with his house elf.
Technically Malfoy was supposed to toss harry his wand right in front of Voldemort. Instead of going with his parents during the battle of Hogwarts. JK said she decided she wanted him to be evil last minute. They did actually film it but you can only see the clip from an awkward angle.
People tend to forget that Merlin, one of the most important heroes of the wizarding world, was a Slytherin. I don't really see Slytherins as evil. They are just very ambitious. Some of the are a little bit too ambitious though.
Keep in mind Slughorn did literally have house elf slaves try his wines to test them for poison upon his return to Hogwarts. We’d later find out his wine was in fact poisoned. So um, yeah, that’s pretty damn evil.
People always forget about the good slytherins like Severus Snape, Regulus Black, Andromeda Tonks nee Black, and if you read in pottermore, Merlin was a slytherin. People always forget the many good slytherin out there just because of a few bad ones. The bad ones do not represent slytherin. 😌😌😌

You forgot the best one of all!!! Tonks mother, Andromeda Black! She was an amazing person and a badass! She married a mugleborn and endure torture to protect Harry!! She is the best Slyterin ever!!
Merlin, Regulas, Andromeda, Astoria, Scorpius, Albus Severus, Leta, Slughorn Narcissa, Draco, Snape
JK hated the fact that Malfoy had a Fanbase to the point where she straight up, said that he had no redeeming qualities, and then he had quote was not hiding a heart of gold.”
I mean he did raise his son to be better than he was, I think how Scorpius would be is how fans see Draco
This "MaLfOy fAnBaSe" you mentioned consists of a bunch of teenager girls fawning over Tom Felton.
JK is correct. People glorify him
I think Madam Malkin was Slytherin. She stuck Malfoy with a pin.
true mvp of the hp universe
I think Slughorn drank liquid luck before the battle
That or something to calm his nerves since he was very likely terrified of the oncoming fight
That’s fair. If I was able to brew one I’d certainly do that too! Lol
Slytherin also know as Rich Kids in every schools
Yeah uncle dumbledore miss uncle Albus
@@rainy_days14 also I said he was brave in my original comment, so did you really didn’t need to say anything??
@@Bluedhalias I'm just saying in my opinion snape is the bravest man.
Draco tried to be friends and partner up with Harry when they first met, but Harry refused. Harry too can be very stubborn.
His father wasn't exactly good himself either always bullying Snape. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
There's no such thing as good and evil, it's all perception.
4 of my nicest friends are slyterin and the meanest is hufflepuff , how the tables have turned 😅
You don't have to be a meanie to be a Slytherin
and?? you can't assume all are like that, you can't base everyone off a hogwarts house 💀
all Slytherins do not mean evil and all Hufflepuff do not mean meanest
ooooo how the turn tables
To be fair, it's not like the assessments are objective without the hat, they're more like a choice of which one you think is cooler. being a hufflepuff outside the story means you think being a nice guy is cooler than bravery, ambition and wisdom. what kind of a person would choose that?
Draco's aunt and teddy's grandma was also slytherin and she was nice
Honestly in the movies they started off bullying Malfoy. Dude walks up to introduce himself, tells them his name and they scoff at him
Personally I think Dumbledore should have been a Slytherin. It would have made sense and fit his personality.
I've only been trying to defend Slytherin for like forever so thanks for this. We should remember not to judge by what's on the outside❤💚
Just because you become a Slytherin doesn’t mean you’ll be evil. Merlin was a Slytherin
People seem to wanna lump slytherin as the evil house but it'd really not. Cunning and ambition are the foundations for the house surely but it's how we use our talents
Even Snape isnt evil 🖤
Not evil, but definitely not good
-Merlin
-Draco Malfoy
-Severus Snape
-Narcissa Malfoy
-Horace Slughorn
-Regulus Black
-Andromeda Tonks
-the list goes on...
Albus Severus Potter was also a Slytherin
so is Andromeda Tonks Scorpious Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass
Dracoe was not trying to be a bully I think he was just pushed by his father to be perfect and to be mean just like his father was
He wasn't a bully he. He tried to be. But he was a coward
Dark doesn't equals evil. EVERY wizard or witch worth a damn uses the Dark Arts in some form. From the basic hexes to Jinxes. Or even rarely, curses.
Proud Slytherin.
I am a slytherin while my friends laugh cuz I am not that bad
Slytherin itself is not bad it’s just the people who are in Slytherin
When Draco first met Harry, he was actually polite and even nice. It was Ron who scoffed and provoked a reaction lol.
He immediately insulted Hagrid and insinuated that Muggle-borns shouldn't be allowed to use magic. At least that's what's in the book..
Malfoy was arrogant from the start. Harry immediately disliked him.
Malfoy was irredeemable in the books as Rowling intended. To the point she asked the directors to cut a scene of him throwing his wand to Harry to help him in a battle.
I have red hair...I would have loved to say "WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THAT I JUST DON'T LIKE TO WASTE MONEY!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
You forgot Snape, and Merlin. One of my my friends is a wonderful person, and a Slytherin.
Thanks for not forgetting Snape!
I felt bad for draco honestly, he was forced to become a copy of his father, but thankfully didnt in the end
If I'm not wrong, according to the book, all the members of Slytherin house walked off, refusing to fight in the second wizarding war. Only Horace Slughorn fought to defend Hogwarts.
Yup, I always hated that part in the books. This was the time to unite the houses
Unfortunate writing decision from the author
Her voice is amazing ❤❤
No mention of Snape? 🤨 or Regulus Black huh
Imo snape shouldnt be here, but regulus should definitely have draco’s spot here
Not every slytherin are bad their ideals just were on the muggles injustice side.
Draco deserved such a better father.
THANK YOU and like why do people always tend to ignore the fact that Merlin the greatest wizard in history was a Slytherin?
Draco was many things, but evil isn't one of them.
Bro is literally wearing the same exact robe play bro what the heck
Snape is the true embodiment of a slytherin, comes off as a cruel person. But has the best intentions at the end of the day
Every parents want they children the best.
@@samuellopez479 Yes. But all of that doesnt make him a bad father, just a bad person
Do not disrespect Albus Potter and Scorpius Malloy like that.
It's been said before. But Merlin was a Slytherin. He has a long history in the wizarding world doing a lot of good.
Technically Malfoy was supposed to toss harry his wand right in front of Voldemort. Instead of going with his parents during the battle of Hogwarts. JK said she decided she wanted him to be evil last minute. They did actually film it but you can only see the clip from an awkward angle.
What are you talking about?? Harry took Draco's wand by force at the Malfoy Manor weeks before the Battle of Hogwarts.
Slughorn is my favorite teacher and my favorite Slytherin. Most people don't understand when i say that so I usually don't tell ppl lol
People tend to forget that Merlin, one of the most important heroes of the wizarding world, was a Slytherin. I don't really see Slytherins as evil. They are just very ambitious. Some of the are a little bit too ambitious though.
You do realize he had to become a death eater at 16 and used to scratch on his dark Mark trying to get it off to the point he left scars on his arm.
In my experience, it's Gryffindor that tends to have the obnoxious ones. The Slytherins I know are pretty friendly.
Gryffindor and Ravenclaw have the most Obnoxious lot as both the houses tend to exclusively value independent virtues such as Courage and Wisdom.
i love draco hes the best
Keep in mind Slughorn did literally have house elf slaves try his wines to test them for poison upon his return to Hogwarts. We’d later find out his wine was in fact poisoned. So um, yeah, that’s pretty damn evil.
People always forget about the good slytherins like Severus Snape, Regulus Black, Andromeda Tonks nee Black, and if you read in pottermore, Merlin was a slytherin. People always forget the many good slytherin out there just because of a few bad ones. The bad ones do not represent slytherin. 😌😌😌
Everyone knows Ron was the meanest one.
EVEN THE WIZARDING WORLD FORGETS MERLIN AND REGULUS
Malfoy was a character written for nobody to like him but Tom Feltons portrayal of there something being more to him than just being a bully is much better
_"There were many Slytherins who were good"_
Proceeds to only name two. And not even mention Snape.
All Draco wanted was to be Harry’s friend and when Harry denied Draco then became a bully
Draco-Red hair,poor clothes

Can we speak about the painful expression on Slughorn's face when he gets to see what his ex favorite student became, when Riddle came in the Hogwarts courtyard to announce Harry's death?
draco was the power bottom that never was, the well used community broom that would never be ridden, a prophecy left unfulfilled much like his lonely empty buss-
Exactly.
Draco was a rich brat that was most definatly influenced by his father
Draco was also pretty nice to Harry, welcoming him to Hogwarts and willing to introduce Harry to people, but with his snobbish attitude he was disrespectful towards Ron
Yessss! Cheers to this!! Finally someone who realizes!!! Thank you!!💚💚🖤🖤
