As an owner of a 2022 1000sx (with a full decat exhaust system) I can understand why people are disappointed with the bhp figure but honestly these bikes don't need any extra bhp. I ride mine hard but never need to redline it to make very rapid progress, I love blasting up through the box with the quickshifter changing gears around 7-8000rpm and before you know it your doing 3 figures!! I think the SE model is pretty decent but would I change mine for it.........Probably not. Bikes like the BMW S1000xr are brilliant but having 170bhp that you can hardly ever make use of as it's far up the rev range doesn't make a great road bike, it makes a very fast bike that has pub bragging rights
Peak HP doesn't mean too much to me. I like bikes with a good amount of midrange torque, which both the 1000 and 1100 have. That SE color scheme looks great. Should be a lot of fun to ride.
For me the SE is definitely the one to have. By the way, has anyone else noticed that the rear brake caliper has been moved to the top of the swing arm? Yes tires, brakes, suspension, and engine capacity show a clear improvement. The 1100 Ninja SX SE is exactly what I've been looking for. No saddle bags I can shoot around town, put the bags on and pack conservative. The power will be addressed with a Sprint air filter, different velocity stacks,a custom flash. If that doesn't do the trick some ceramic wheel bearings,BST carbon fiber wheels and a Titanium Akrapovich slip on will.Their pretty quiet when cruising. Well, one thing's for sure. 1099cc making six less horsepower than the 1043 means that this bike should tune nicely. It could be gaining 15 or more horsepower, if they can extract everything that that engine can do.
Wouldnt be surprised if the stock bike on the dyno made the same power as the last gen. People where sad when the gen 3 busa made 8 less hp than the gen 2 but on a dyno they have the same peak power, with the gen 3 having more midrange. I reckon it will be the same story with this 1100sx.

I forgot to mention that your conclusion of using the same engine with the same tuning on the Versys and the Ninja seems to me pretty spot-on! By the way I love Kawasaki but I don't like their green... mine is black
One of the most underwhelming update I've ever seen. They knew they had to keep the price similar otherwise I guess people would just laugh at them. Yes, losing a couple HP isn't actually a huge deal to the casual everyday riding, but the fact they hid that on the press release under the pretense of better torque shows they know people care about it. The Versys got the better end of the deal, and that still isn't saying much. Looks like Kawi is going full budget mode on the more powerful lineups whereas people have been waiting for actual updates for years. The H2, ZH2, Ninja 1100, Versys 1100 and Z900 lines could all use new designs and about 20 kilos less weight.
Maybe they know something I don't about upcoming regulations and they're banking it all on the new 500 range and their EVs/Hybrids, but I'm still disappointed.
@@Vis_Maior I agree with you 100% and I think they just don't have the budget allocated to I&D in big cc motorcycles because of the risk of not selling enough to cover costs. So, they do these cheap refreshes and continue not selling... which for me makes no sense.
Hardly Kawi's fault if our money is worthless. If they've got to beat around the financial bush, that just proves they know what world we're all living in. Really, people should be more careful in the voting booth.
I cannot find any info on the Z900 or even if there will be a '25 model, bit strange. I am super bummed they just have black or way more money for green as color options. Last years was kinda lame with the cheesy red stickers but it still was better than just black. This was a dud imo.
Glad to see someone continuing to improve on the traditional style of sport-touring motorcycle, which seem to be going extinct in favor of the upright crossover style of sport-tourer. Consolidating the power lower in the rev range is nice; I love it when more displacement means less effort instead of more aggression. I have ridden on CO-103, the road featured in the launch video, and think it's a perfect stomping ground for this bike or the previous Ninja 1000. Good stuff all around.
@@mrmark8603 Yeah... it was sarcasm. Obviously others managed to squeeze a lot more performance from their I4 litre engines. Kawasaki is just slacking... The S1000XR outputs 170HP and 114Nm and the Ninja 136/113 while having 100cc more. You can call it a different tuning, I call it penny pinching and slacking in innovation. We'll see what the price difference will be. I see no prices for the Ninja yet.
@@johnnyblue4799 If people want more power, why not buy the supercharged version? This squabbling over a couple of horsepower is so stupid. 99% of riders, couldn't even feel it.
@@mrmark8603 A couple HP? It's 36, not a couple. And you're missing my point. Kawi is selling an engine that's not on par with the competition. Bigger displacement with less performance. Why? Even the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX squeezes more power from a 999 cc engine, for a bike that's probably priced about the same as the Ninja. So why would someone pay the same, or maybe a bit more, for less performance? Not to mention that the suspension on the Suzuki is light years ahead... So let's look beyond the hype and be objective about the bike as much as possible. Sure, I'm not going to use all the horse power, most of the time, but why not have it if I do spend the money anyway?
I owned a 2018 model Z1000sx but upgraded to a 2020 Ninja model when that came out as it addressed many of the issues with the previous bike. It had a more comfortable seat cruise control heated grips a TFT dash a quick shifter and it sorted the handling issue the old bike had. It was worth the upgrade. This new model looks like it's improved nothing much so I can't see many people changing their Ninja 1000s to Ninja 1100s I know I won't be. Not even for the SE model.
I bought the 2024 model, which is still 1000SX. By the looks of it changes are more for the manufacturer than customers. USB-C charger sounds nice, although I got a 12V socket with universal charger. Other than that having the choice, I think I would still prefer the outgoing engine as it is tried and true.
I love my 2021 1000sx, this model has me scratching my head…? Better mileage, maybe? I think that was your primary drawback in a 1000sx review a few years ago… I’d love to hear your first ride impressions!
Man, that USB C is a eyesore. The missing ponies is just down to lower rev ceiling, as such that smells like a limiter that can be removed later in life. You go Versys 1100 if you want the electronic suspension. H2SX if you also want the fancy cruise control (and a supercharger of course). I can understand them wanting to use the same engine, by why lower the spec when every other manufacturer is chasing the 150+ bhp range? Maybe they want to leave the H2 variant as the real muscle bike and not take away sales with a normally aspirated?
The 1000sx was at the top of my list for my next tourer. This update is a little disappointing, considering it's a bigger engine. Also, the one thing I never liked on this bike, was the stock exhaust. The Akrapovic looks a lot better i.m.o. - I would have thought the SE version would come standard with the upgraded exhaust. Also, will this come with the option to buy side panniers and a top box that can be fitted together?
Give or take +50 here -50 there, +100 over there, the stuff isn't cheap. It's a built in tax to pay for all the R&D and equipment to comply with a bureaucratic system who continues to lie about the earth over and over and over again.
As a former owner of a 2020 model 1000SX I'm a big fan however I'm not sure I would buy the new 1100SX as it doesn't seem to have moved the game on at all, it's still fitted with the "fugly" exhaust from the 22/23 model 1000SX , it produces less power and offers no perceived benefits over the 1000 , if I was going to buy a new sports tourer I would be spending my money with either Moto Guzzi or Suzuki.
A wonderful motorbike - already the 1000SX blows you away in terms of fun, speed, smoothness & power of engine, comfort ! Good update, let‘s me be super happy with my 2024 version 😂
As a 2021 1000sx owner I'm disappointed, though they may have upped the power to around 160 bhp and a bit of a face-lift. I do like the brake and suspension add ons. Not a fan of Bridgestone. Mine came with 22's , you could ride it on the ceiling for the first 2000k then they fell of a cliff. Changed to Metzler Road Tec 01se. I think I'll hold on to my 1000sx for now. 👍
I agree, mine came with the crappy S22s, worst tyres I’ve ever had. I upgraded to the Metzeler RoadTech 01s and the handling of the bike changed for the better. The Bridgestones made the bike unstable even on dry tarmac.
Very well done your vids on updates! I own a 2021 Ninja1000sx and frankly I think it's a bit of a let-down this update. I was waiting for a new model to be released to change mine next year. By then I will have done 50000 km on it and I'm quite happy with it but I was looking for more substantial modifications. If there's something that needn't to be changed, it was the engine. What we get is a new engine with less hp and an insignificant increase of torque, wow! Just go on the UK's Kawasaki site and look ant the 2024 Ninja1000sx and the NEW Ninja1100sx, they're identical. I like the longer gearing, there you could have the impression that Kawasaki listens to the owners but what about the rear-tire, still a 50 section when on every Kawasaki Ninja Forum I visit, owners plebiscit a 55 section. No weight loss, no new features (I doubt the new connectivity will work better than the current one) no electric suspension, only some trick components but no Showa electronic suspension like the Versys. I won't spend money to put a bike in my garage that looks exactly like the one I've just sold... I think it's not a very bold move, considering that the competition now is wider that when the current model was introduced, you've got the other sport touring offerings (Super Duke GT, Suzuki 1000gt, BMW r1250rs and soon r1300rs) plus an array of other models which would interest potential crossshoping buyers of the Ninja, the crossover/talltourers/road biased adv bikes (Tracer 9gt, BMW s1000xr, Suzuki gsx1000gx, Ducati MSV2s...)
In the UK the Suzi also comes with 0% finance and panniers included.... Kawasaki have screwed up and I'd imagine within a few months these models will be heavily discounted.
The only thing the suzuki has going for it is top end power. Engine in the Ninja is bigger smoother, produces more power everywhere but the top, longer geared (good for highway) FAR superior fit and finish and an adjustable screen. TBH it will FEEL more powerful than the suzuki.
The 1043cc engine already was fatter in the middle. The 1100cc will be fatter still, but NOWHERE NEAR what I was hoping for. But it is only 56cc increase with little else (compression ratio is identical). Longer stroke might do better on fuel efficiency.
A compelling proposition! Always a very good handling, rapid thing that could take hard luggage. With Kawi edge for free. And a fair price - seriously, this thing is nearly £10k cheaper than some 180bhp Euro offerings, gelded with nanny tech. Yeah, looks are a bit old school, but show me the pretty modern bike - they're all munters, Panigale excepted (and that's getting uglier with each iteration). Power loss is trivial, torque gain is more significant and if you care, you'll flash it to get an easy 150-160. Because you need more power..?
The '24 was on my short list but the color scheme was not good, so glad they pulled out all the stops for the 25 and made it......black with less power, genius. I still haven't heard a single solitary peep about the Z900 or its successor (if there is one). I was hoping the product release was going to cover that but we got this dud.
Not to date myself, but, back in the 70 and 80s the motorcycle magazines would publish true role on and quarter mile time. The Dynos tell only one story. These performance numbers really help in decision making if performance was the main goal. For example, at the time, my 1986 FJ1200 in one magazine was tested at 10.75 at 125 mph with a pro rider. A friend who had a 1987 Honda Hurrican 1000 and I could smoke him in top gear role Ons to about 110 and then he would cruse by but at the track we were almost same quarter mile times. In our group we had a Suzuki 1100 GS ES , GSXR 1100, Kawasaki Ninga 1000 and at that time we were only working with about 9500 rpms except for a FZR 1000 running at 10.85s at 133 mph at the most at the time. My best was 11.15 at 124 with a slipping clutch and 33,000 miles. Now, my 14 year old Concours 14 is the bike I wish Kawasaki would have continued and updated. You can't beat the torque and wind protection, and it does also offer better passenger room. Plus, using my bike as an example, no chain maintenance and just plain tuff. Actually, if there was any sport touring manufacturer who would advertise mid 10s and plus 130s in the quarter mile then I would buy.
i jz watched your cb1000hornet press release video before this & suddenly my achievable dream bike has gotten so expensive.i guess i have my eyes now on the cb1000hornet after this.haha
Engine changes was first bit disapointed, but if it really so that it only loses on high revs, its not a big deal, 10000+ revs is not really that imporant for typical road ride. But disapointing was that they did not redesing sub-frame and panniers. I really was expecting to have possibility to get option to use top case with panniers, but not going to happend now. Was expecting electric suspension for SE model, but Ohlins option is fine, but not what I expect.
I think the loss in HP is very disappointing. I want a sports tourer so I can use it for my daily commute, longer distances, but also to do proper sports. I will likely get the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT instead now
You were never going to purchase this bike if the fact that it lost six horsepower at 10,000 RPMs is the thing that was going to sway you over to the kawasaki. Go read reviews comparing the two. The Suzuki has it in engine performance, the Kawasaki has it in literally every other way. Don't believe me. Go read about it.
I have already mentioned in another video that larger diameter discs are to avoid heat fatigue. They do not increase braking power. Find out more about this subject.
C14. Gone. No touring option for Z900. Ninja1000SX more expensive. Price creep. Price creep. Price creep. Versys1000 massively heavy and way down on power. Price creep. Price creep. H2SX unaffordable. ZX-14R not comfortable or affordable.
@@exothermal.sprocketwhen a bike comes with more expensive stuff on it and also your money is worth less with every year that passes it's not price creep. You're going to add tech to existing products to justify perceived increased value. When someone doesn't buy a product before, you add engine displacement (more power) and add bigger TFT screen (more visual novelty), and add electronic controls (more safety), and add USB socket, quickshifter, or other things (more amenities), then you've succeeded in motivating your buyer to believe the product offers more, therefore increased cost is justified.
I don't know how Suzuki are going to cope when this comes to the dealers as the GSX S1000GT is £500 dearer than this and there is no comparison in my book. Well done Kawasaki.
It's interesting that while it's all about engine downsizing with cars, bikes are only going up in capacity. Im sure your insurance premium will correlate 😅. Btw, the list price is irrelevant. You can pick up a new sx with 25% discount easily...

Finally they release the "SE" version. Rear shock fix (check) Longer gearing fix (check) Better breaks (check) . Disappointment must be the engine. So instead of making it a bit more sporty engine kawa turned the bike into a Tractor with lower revs and lower power : ( I'm really split...
Slight power downgrade on paper also puts it at exactly 100 kW which might help you save a little on tax and insurance in certain countries. Shouldn't be noticeably worse, in fact I wouldn't even be surprised if it still makes the same power at the wheel.
How about just use their excellent affordable Z900 and do some minimal things to it for a "touring version" such as a 1/4 fairing, cruise, slightly less bend in the knees, a better seat, and another 1/2 gal of gas capacity. But let me guess, they'd reduce the horsepower by 15. Just because.
No mention of the change to the chain adjustment that's moved away from the easy to adjust cam in the swing arm of the previous models to the std block and bolt adjustment. When I had the 2016 model it certainly was easier than going back and forth checking to see if the lines were evenly adjusted as opposed to simply having them move in unison.
Very disappointed. Wanted 150-155hp, the Showa EERA suspension of the H2 SX SE and possibly a 55 rear, for gods sake. All we got is facelift with less power.

I was waiting for the announcement of MY 2025 to decide between this and the BMW 1000 XR and now I know I'm going to take the German.
Yes. How can we possibly survive without stylema caliper brakes? Its absolutely insane! I'm surprised these bikes can even stop! And dont get me started on electronic suspension! How on earth can we possibly manage without it. The 1000sx was CRYING out for electronic suspension. Not BETTER suspension, just electronic. It just shit its pants as soon as any form of curve came into view. Insane choices from Kawasaki. Truly gobsmacked. I think you are right to go for the XR. The extra 8-10 grand are truly worth it. Joking aside. Get a Hayabusa. Larger, comfier, way more powerful, torquey, better suspension, brakes and it is iconic. Oh and it will be a good 3-4 grand cheaper than the XR. Probably more expensive to insure however.
I think you're right that it'll be hard to notice the change in peak power. I almost never hit peak power in my Multi 1200S. In first gear, it'll throw the TC on and...blow an engine once...and in second gear, it's at an illegal speed anywhere in the state.
I have been saying this for some time now but Kawasaki have been very lazy. Many of their models are in need of an update. One or two have now got that but let us be honest, they are rather disappointing. Extra torque is always welcome but losing a chunk of the top end is not good. Horsepower talks and I see no real reason for them to do this. This has always been a good model and seller for Kawasaki but I am afraid now many potential buyers will be looking elsewhere. The competition is just so damn good now. A refresh on the styling was also needed but they have lazily ignored this. Oh dear. Next I suspect will be the Z900. I hope they do something genuinely good with it. But somehow I doubt it.
Oh look, It's green. Wow, I didn't see that one coming. It has a bigger engine but makes LESS horsepower than the outgoing model. And this is going to compete against the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT? SMH

Uh, no. To disprove you all you need to do is go back and look at the 2010 model, then the updated 2014 model, then the updated 2017 model. They all look iteratively more and more modern. @@johnnyblue4799 Did you listen to the video?
No you are not able to set factory panniers with topbox together, that because of subframe desing, that has not been changed. I was looking that too.
Nope. We're supposed to pay another 1200 for an exhaust, anther 300 for a filter, and another 400 for a tune to make it work.
@@exothermal.sprocket That applies to any new bike. 300 what currency, for an air filter?
Give or take +50 here -50 there, +100 over there, the stuff isn't cheap.
It's a built in tax to pay for all the R&D and equipment to comply with a bureaucratic system who continues to lie about the earth over and over and over again.
The SE brakes and quick shifter changes are compelling.
Price creep. Price creep. Price creep. Price creep.

They have also changed the swing arm from the cam adjustment
As a former owner of a 2020 model 1000SX I'm a big fan however I'm not sure I would buy the new 1100SX as it doesn't seem to have moved the game on at all, it's still fitted with the "fugly" exhaust from the 22/23 model 1000SX , it produces less power and offers no perceived benefits over the 1000 , if I was going to buy a new sports tourer I would be spending my money with either Moto Guzzi or Suzuki.
I think you’re spot on Bob. Thank you.
A wonderful motorbike - already the 1000SX blows you away in terms of fun, speed, smoothness & power of engine, comfort ! Good update, let‘s me be super happy with my 2024 version 😂
Does it come with luggage cases?
Looking to get a used 2020 model and I will still go with it. 2025 seems good but will still stick to 2020.
Has the rev range also been reduced? Or is the peak power simply 1000 revs earlier available but the total range stays the same?
What’s interesting is that they probably lowered the rev limit for noise/emissions but it would be just as happy with a piggyback tune
3mm longer stroke. Wouldn't surprise me if the redline dropped a bit.
@@exothermal.sprocket He said it did.
@@mrmark8603 I read the Kawasaki press release straight off the Kawasaki website, thanks.
Definitly want to see the ninja with a tune
Wondering if z1000 will also get an update
same here
Very well done your vids on updates!
Now the Suzuki gsx s1000gt with 150hp looks to be more worth it.
Surprisingly this 1100sx will make more power through the whole rev range. It only the top end where the 1000gt makes a difference in power.
If you like living in the upper rev range yes
The 1043cc engine already was fatter in the middle. The 1100cc will be fatter still, but NOWHERE NEAR what I was hoping for. But it is only 56cc increase with little else (compression ratio is identical). Longer stroke might do better on fuel efficiency.
Could there be an SX version with the electronic items that come in the H2 SX (ARAS, ACC, FCW, BSD, AHB, TPMS, KIPASS)
Still no Centre stand option or top box option? Big omissions for a bike designed for two-up touring imo.
I wish they updated with some of the ninja H2, ACC etc. Maybe the loss in power the H2 looks a better bet
Looked on Motostatz website and they got a ninja 1000sx to do the quarter in 10.81 at 132mph.
Will this new powertrain make it's way into the Bimota KB4?
i jz watched your cb1000hornet press release video before this & suddenly my achievable dream bike has gotten so expensive.i guess i have my eyes now on the cb1000hornet after this.haha
I will likely get the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT instead now
😂
This bike will make more power through the whole rev range till the very top end compared to the gsxs1000.
Stock yes. Tune the K5 Gixxer engine and there's a LOT more to be had.
The limiting factor usually sits on top of the bike. To fully exploit the potential of any 100+ hp bike you need to be in the top 10% of riders.
I have already mentioned in another video that larger diameter discs are to avoid heat fatigue. They do not increase braking power. Find out more about this subject.
All else being identical, you gain a longer lever. But it's usually not that simple.
But they are an undersized 300mm......Most similar bikes have 310mm or even 320....
What makes a far bigger difference, is the caliper type, the pad material, the lines, and the master cylinder.
The stated HP can be easily increased 30-50 HP by Moore Mafia. It's their specialty.👍👏👏👏💀
By the comments here, apparently all riders are using 100% of the power, 100% of the time… on a 1100 inline 4 tourer. Makes sense 😁🍻
Seems so. Bloody heroes.
An abysmal update to one of the best, much loved bikes Kawasaki ever released. Such a shame that Kawasaki seem to be killing off their sports tourers.
Tbh if they kept up with the devaluing of the dollar this bike would cost even more. Shit, in the last 10 years alone meat and rent prices have about doubled. You couldn't have gotten this bike 10 years ago for half the price.
@@Mikaeel84 If you're a corporation used to turning a certain amount of profit every year, and inflation causes the economy to suck, you decide to squeeze products down to fewer than before, what are you going to do to remain just as profitable with fewer products and weaker currency? You're going to add tech to existing products to justify perceived increased value.
When someone doesn't buy a product before, you add engine displacement (more power) and add bigger TFT screen (more visual novelty), and add electronic controls (more safety), and add USB socket, quickshifter, or other things (more amenities), then you've succeeded in motivating your buyer to believe the product offers more, therefore increased cost is justified.
I can't help but think that emissions are having something to do with these bigger engines, as well. Every bike manufacturer is doing it.
Any changes in weight?
Yes, 3kg heavier 👍
+4.4 lb.
Probably heavier handlebar weights. Probably heavier engine flywheel. Maybe some other stuff.
I don't know how Suzuki are going to cope when this comes to the dealers as the GSX S1000GT is £500 dearer than this and there is no comparison in my book. Well done Kawasaki.
An ECU Flash will wake this engine up
It's interesting that while it's all about engine downsizing with cars, bikes are only going up in capacity.
Im sure your insurance premium will correlate 😅.
Btw, the list price is irrelevant. You can pick up a new sx with 25% discount easily...
You said it right. Less power for more money. I know most of the riders wont feel it but its a tough cookie to sell.
I own 2015 H2, 2014 ZZR1400PS, 2022 H2SX SE and 2020 Z900RS, I haven't had any interest in getting any other Kawasaki the last 5 years because they just simply haven't come out with any interesting models or updates
Spec and numbers don’t make a bike. Ride and decide is the only way! Motorcycles are all about feel.
True this. Look at the Hornet Twin v GSX8S.....90% of journos prefer the Suzuki despite the Hornet talking a good fight....
So it is actually a Z1000R in full fairings
Slight power downgrade on paper also puts it at exactly 100 kW which might help you save a little on tax and insurance in certain countries. Shouldn't be noticeably worse, in fact I wouldn't even be surprised if it still makes the same power at the wheel.
Where is the 2025 Kawasaki ZX-15R??
Sad they didn't update the looks. New bike looks 10+ years old...
I wish that they make it smaller actually. Something like a Ninja 900.
Z900sx?
Z900sx?
Probably less weight overall on that rear swingarm with those changes. Rear brake moved from beneath to above.
Very disappointed. Wanted 150-155hp, the Showa EERA suspension of the H2 SX SE and possibly a 55 rear, for gods sake. All we got is facelift with less power.

I'm disappointed... the horses less and the absence of the optional electronic suspension are 2 points that leave the bitter in my mouth. the brembo brakes, are not even stylema.
Ah, yes... Kawasaki... the manufacturer people just love to shit on...
