Mark Slade (Raikkonen's engineer) said this was one of Kimi's best drives. He totally outperformed that car which had an underpowered V8 engine. A race of qualifying laps.
@Claude1100 because he is a sir . What's your problem 😕 all I was doing was saying thanks to him . And you act like a tosser . Probably not an act though.
Aah Franck Montagny who I'd completely forgotten - they had to use "MOT" for him on the lap chart with Montoya and Monteiro already there - all 3 were gone by the end of the year!
Amazing German speaking weekend and warm up of Austrian GP! Having 214 laps led, 8 podiums and 5 wins Michael Schumacher was a wonderful phenomena in Nürburgring. Thanks a lot Zeddie, you rock! 🏁✌
Interesting to hear the discussion about would Michael continue into 2007 - I always wonder what would have happened if he had. Michael/Kimi at Ferrari against Nando/Lewis at McLaren. Would Kimi and Lewis have been forced to play support roles? Not sure Spygate would have come out if Nando and Lewis weren't fighting each other either! The other scenario is Michael/Massa at Ferrari as would Kimi have gone there to be Michael's#2 being doubtful so Kimi stays at McLaren with Alonso (and Hamilton starts off at a midfield team). That's not an interesting as reality either!
Kimi and Michael was Montezemolo's choice of team as a power play against Jean Todt and Schumi himself So Schumi decided he'd rather retire than leave Massa out of Ferrari, since he believed Massa had potential
Yeah I get the impression Michael thought a lot of Massa from the commentary about the teamwork Massa did for Michael here. I certainly don't think he's have been so accommodating for Rubens and even more so Irvine!
Schumi should have stayed until 2008 then retired & not came back, he would have won his 8 & 9 WDC's. He would have beaten Kimi over the year, even if Kimi was faster at certain tracks. Ah well in an alternate universe maybe 🙂
Raikkonen finished right behind a Ferrari in this race, in a McLaren. Which was the 4th fastest car this weekend. Think about how much faster Raikkonen would have been had he been in a Ferrari in this race. No contest.
Still cannot believe winless season for McLaren in '06 with two great drivers. Adrian Newey was not involved in the MP4/21 development anymore. As he said in some comments, it is about the finishing touch that they are lacking.
I think Raikkonen would of won a race if it wasn’t for poor reliability. He could of won in Monaco or China or both if it wasn’t for poor reliability. And in Hungary he crashed into the back of Scott Speed.
Shame about Adrian Newey not in the MP4-21 development I thought he wasn’t. No wonder they didn’t do as well. The Mercedes Engine was also down on power compared to Ferrari & Renault.
As much as I loved the V10/V8 era...the racing was rubbish. Every single "close" race was decided in the pits. There was almost zero passing on the track back then. It really was terrible in terms of on track action.
The Ferrari Engine had 785hp. The Renault Engine in the Renault R26 had 775hp. The Mercedes’ engine in the McLaren MP4-21 had 750hp less than Ferrari & Renault.
Raikkonen would of won a race or two if it wasn’t for poor reliability. And he probably would of won in Hungary if he didn’t crash into the back of Scott Speed.
@@tristanwhite3472liuzzi and no he wouldn’t have won without the crash. Alonso was miles ahead. The incident is why the field bunched up and gave Button a shot at winning
@@theiceman7590 no. Alonso was miles ahead of Kimi before Kimi's incident. Alonso was lapping faster despite not pitting. He was 29 seconds clear of Kimi 4 laps before the kimi's incident so Alonso would have easily rejoined in the lead when he made his stop and who knows without the safety car that bunched the field up, Renault don't screw up his dry tyre pit stop.
The 2006-2008 era McLarens must be some of the best looking F1 cars ever I reckon
Thanks Big Z!
I agree about the McLaren Cars the 2006 McLaren was sexy.
I think the Toyota livery is pretty underrated, Renault from 2004 - 2006 was something else.
Mark Slade (Raikkonen's engineer) said this was one of Kimi's best drives.

Great upload, keep them coming ❤❤.......God I miss these days and especially the cars
You Sir are a legend . Greatly appreciated for Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
You related to Chooper Reed?
Why do you presume Big Z identify s as a Sir ...!
@Claude1100 because he is a sir . What's your problem 😕 all I was doing was saying thanks to him . And you act like a tosser . Probably not an act though.
@Claude1100 why do you presume he not . Ya twit
Good one picko, onya m8@ossiepickett1932
Those blue and yellow Renaults might be my favorite livery of this era.
The MP4-21 wasn't a great car, but it looked absolutely beautiful
Kimi basically drove the whole race as a qualifying session. The Mercedes engine was really underpowered that year
Excellent drive by Rosberg he was closing on Fishicella for 6th. Barricello 5th
Thank you sir!
Great drive my Micheal Shumacher.
Aah Franck Montagny who I'd completely forgotten - they had to use "MOT" for him on the lap chart with Montoya and Monteiro already there - all 3 were gone by the end of the year!
Monteiro said many times he was optimistic for 2007, talked really good about Spyker
And then got the boot lol
Absolute legend BZ. Great viewing for a long Sunday train journey
Last of the good everything era.
Your a legend
Good quality too.
Shame the McLaren MP4/21 wasn’t quite on the pace of Ferrari & Renault.
Classic Michael victory, fast when he needed to be fast. The stage is set for a battle right to the end.
a fitting farewell victory on German home soil for Schumacher
didnt he win hockenheim that year too?
@tomcharlton586 correct so infact he won what you could say both 2 German GPs in his same farewell year.
Hamilton a very exciting up and coming driver 😂😂

I remember watching this race, Ferrari and Schumacher were really on it. Cant wait to watch the rest of the 2006 season.
Does anyone know why the Mercedes Benz engine was relatively underpowered compared to the rest considering they had the most powerful engine in 2005?
13:24 😂
Louise You Tit I mean Twit 😂😂
Titsmate?😅😅
A bit of a mystery why Renault didn't/couldn't find a top driver to replace Alonso. They had plenty of time. Webber would have been a good choice.
Jenson Button also
@@THTSound Yes, good pick.
@@mytinplaterailwaywell Flavio didn’t like him. Webber would have been a good one given his relationship with Flavio

Yay! Thanks BZ!
Thanks mate, I miss old F1 seasons......
I wanted Raikkonen to get 3rd from Massa.
Raikkonen outperformed his car.
The first year without V10 engines, and F1 was never the same
V8 was okay though. I feel bad for newer fans who started watching F1 in 2014 onwards
V8 still ok.... when v6 hybrid comes, that's the end of the glorious f1 era
@@tedarmavan Sure, lets say that 2006 was the beginning of what was to come. A much worse version of F1 came closer each year..
But only one left is Toro Rosso but rev limited 15000rpm
Torro Rosso was the only cars with v10 engine that year

9 podiums but no wins

The Mercedes Engine wasn’t powerful enough. I think it was more the engine than the car.
Crashed into the back of Scott Speed while leading.

Was this Massas first podium ?
Shame we don't get to see Fisi having road rage with Villeneuve in qualifying - had all the signs of someone under pressure!
I loved hearing him scream in italian as a fellow italian myself lol
Thanks BZ !
McLaren heavy full load strategy isn't working.
