@@iBarista yea, I've been looking at la marzocco everyday. Been trying to ask my parents if they could chip in, but a 3k machine is a bit too rough to chip in lol

Congrat for the upgrade. But your IMS shower is not the NT version. Mean that one is not the one with special Nano Tech coating. Check the part number it should be MA200NT, and it has yellowish rainbow color
iBarista yep. Your is MA200IM. The ending should be NT for the NanoTech version. It similar product just with different coating. And it does make a different 😁
Jan Zdarsa yes there is. If you don’t remove the screen you might leave behind some coffee residue on the screen. But I always remove it afterwards and clean the screen and group head afterwards because I don’t want to run the risk of sucking up undissolved granulates in the group head, which in turn could damage the insides. Just for my peace of mind :)
Cool video, I can see we are neighbors from The Hague :) Maybe next time ill try that IMS for my La Marzocco Mini. Did you noticed any improvement in the extraction?
Thats cool :) and thank you! 😎 Didn’t do a comprehensive side to side comparison to be honest, but what I can say is that the puck comes out cleaner and more uniform. The top of the puck is more level and less coffee is sticking to the shower screen. So for me it’s a win. See you in the neighborhood! 😊
Haha, this is really a coincidence, considering that I yesterday order package (a blind filter basket and puly caff powder) which have arrived today :)
hi, is this with or without the 0.6 restrictor upgrade? I noticed if you just let the water on without the portafilter, the pressure gauge reads at about 7 bar pressure, is this optimal? TIA
Hi Jackie! This was before I’ve installed the 0.6 restrictor. The pressure goes up to 9 bar when there’s resistance from the coffee or a blind filter. You’re welcome 😊
My dad had service for the machine and was charged 650 bucks… Is that normal? He replaced all the rubbers for like 250 and some pipe and 300 for 3h work with decalc
Hi Tehral, the hourly rate of the technicians is high. Descaling can be very expensive because it might’ve been very severe. Here in Holland it’s around €50 before tax per hour. The parts on the other hand might vary quite a bit. If they’re using original LM parts, they’re crazy expensive but sometimes (depending on the service center) they use (high quality) generic brands for gaskets, seals and other parts. That makes a huge difference. I replaced my flow restrictor, if I’d bought it original it would’ve costed me €20 or more. But I bought a good quality generic one for around €4. If I where you, I’d ask around what parts and labour costs to do a certain job and check the reviews of the business. And be sure to use good quality (filtered) water.
Hi, could you recommend one or two websites that I can order parts from in the Netherlands? I am a low budget kind of guy, but if the quality makes sense for the price then I'll notoriously make my girlfriend angry and invest a bit more XD
1) The IMS screen really makes no difference in the percolation quality 2) The naked portafilter has been proven to produce more bitter coffee -don't know why- ~so bottom line is there is no actual upgrade
Hi Stathis, what you’ve said is correct. But I’d like to add to it. The IMS screen is noticeably easier to clean than the original shower screen. It’s made of one solid piece so no coffee stuck between the mesh and the metal part. The naked filter wasn’t part of the upgrade. I got it because I like the aesthetics of the flow and be able to assess distribution issues. The reason people get more bitter shots is because the try to match te timing with a spouted filter. A spouted filter takes a bit longer due to the path the coffee has to take. So matching a naked to it means a slower pull and also over-extraction. I noticed in some cases a difference of 4-5 sec with the same grind setting.
Why so bitter? This thing is easier to clean and there is no possibility for grinds to stick between the mesh and the metal ring, since it’s made of one solid piece. But you do you, no problem 😉

La Marzocco recommends to remove shower screen for back flushing. Is there any difference if you keep it vs remove it?
Jan Zdarsa yes there is. If you don’t remove the screen you might leave behind some coffee residue on the screen. Waste of money- just stick with the manufacturer recommendations for crying out loud.
