Hello Dave, at 7:09 as u can see there is a pin on the original newly designed quick release, and that is missing on the metal quick release. the reason for this pin is to activate Low Torque mode on DD1 and DD2 (it actually pushes a button on the rear of the wheel) since even though it is enforced plastic, it wont survive much against high torque. and the rocker style shifter on this wheel is to also to use push pull shifting since some people use this style, push to downshift and pull to upshift. just wanted to share some info hope you like them. Thanks for the steady content! Look forward to having the opportunity to race you.
I would have loved some feedback with the default quick release system before you swap it lol.... that said, good review!
I didn't really want to use it with the plastic one on my DD in case there were any issues. I'd say for a Clubsport or CSL Elite the plastic qr would be just fine.
@@davecamyt Yeah I guess you have to drop the DD1 FF to 8nm to be safe for the default plastic quick release system... I am just concerned about the flex on it
Intro title would be awesome at x3 speed
LOL Dave, 5mins into your video and I made an impulse purchase using the affilate link. Thanks for the tip off :)
Haha, thank you Pete 😁
I received it 3 weeks later, delay mostly due to UPS and import issues, didn't have to wait until Feb as suggested on website. I love it apart from the shift lever but I will get used to it. Was using an F1 wheel which I now realise was too small as it gets very sensitive the smaller size rim you go to. Thanks for the introduction. Also bought a DD1 and Porsche wheel through the link.
Hello Dave,
Great video!
How about flex in the wheel while driving on DD?
Feels just fine. I didn't notice any flex at all 👌
Noooo! I just bought a formula v2 because I wanted the dual clutch, this looks like a way better buy 😭
i feel you, me too :(
I’ve been using it heavily for 2 weeks, doubt they would accept it back now...
@@TheNButler at the same time one can never have enough wheels ;)
ditto however mines still boxed up for christmas.....
If it’s still boxed say Santa got the wrong one. Although this does look a bit plastic compared to the formula v2, does it feel budget in comparison Dave?
Spuggy and Geoff down the grove would love it.
Yep, I've seen 2nd had ones go for $500 AUD and they would sell instantly 🤷🏽♂️
Hi I/m Tim I also have the fanatec mclaren gt3 v2. It is super!
I love the glass infused plastic can't help it lol and it has a great look
Edit you mean you like to drive with a gy3/gt4 rim not an f1 wheel lol great video regardless love the wheel rim for sure formula rims have much more in the front going on with more inputs this is def a gt style rim
I'm sad that you didn't try it with the plastic QR on the DD :) I think it should work fine with lowered torque limit - that's what I'm actually planning to do
Yeah I just didn't want to risk it knocking I'd be swapping it out anyway.
@@davecamyt people are using WRC wheels (what are bigger on diameter) with the same plastic QR on DD wheelbases with no problems :) It's actually pretty solid and has less flex than the metal ones - at least, thats what Will says from Boosted Media
I've been looking at this wheel rim recently and found this video. How good are the lower paddles for braking and accelerating? I assume they know how much pressure is applied rather than just being off or on like the shifters? thanks
Yes fully analogue 👍
Thanks Dave...or Mac...lol. I want that rim and you helped make up my mind. Btw, love the racing videos. You're my go-to guy these days.
Wow I sold mine one month ago for 300 😂😬
If it weren't made from so much plastic, I might be interested. I understand though, they want to keep the price down. I have the Formula V2 with APM shifters so I probably won't ever buy this. Also, I'm not a fan of the rocker paddles on this.
If they weren't made the way they are you could add an extra €100.
Nice a V2 I was sad when they removed the first
Be happy you never got the old one. Takes all your nerves
How big of a difference do the vibration motors make on the formula V2 versus this Rim? I just got a V2 but really wanted this rim, of course they release two months after I got mine.
Do you have to buy the ClubSport quick release adapter separate?
Only if you want to use the high torque mode on a direct drive wheel base 👍
The old one was probably the worst wheel I have tried, it was a plastic mess of a wheel, I don't know if this v2 can save it, but I would 100%skip it and buy another one from fanatec, they have so many really nice wheels.
I'd rather use this than the V2 tbh.
Sorry Dave I meant the McLaren gt3 v2, if that could save it.
But that is nice if they improved the wheel to the extent that you think this is nicer then the F1 v2.
I just really didn't like the first McLaren rim at all, the paddles was so bad. And the overall feel was just not good on it and it felt so cheap
NEVER had an issue with my V1. Still use it to this day. Prefer it over my BMW rim almost always. But seeing used prices I may be convinced to part with it if someone is interested 😉
Yknow, maybe if the base wasn't 300 bucks as a seperate purchase I would get this
Do you experience any flex with the wheel where the quick release is?
I’ll prolly buy this in a bit right now I’m already 2k in the hole for full fanatec setup and my main game is oval in iracing atm once I’m more into road I’ll drop the $
That new intro is epic!
Just ordered it
Your intro is quite nice!
Shit! I wanted the mclaren rim so bad, but due to the used prices I got the formula v2 a few months back, could've saved so much money 😅
Sell the v2. I had a v2 I bought new and I used it 1.5years and sold it for exactly what i paid for it. Wait till fanatec is out of stock on v2 and you will get retail or close. Then buy this for $200
@@SIMRIG412 Thanks for the tip bro👍🏻
May I ask if there is any flex side to side with the club sport adapter?
Yes a tiny bit but not much. Nothing that's you'd feel when driving. It's only when you push and pull on each side. Not something you'd generally do when steering 👍
Hey Dave. Do you think a rim like this work work okay for oval, stock car, etc?
What settings do you use for IRacing?
I'm newer to this "advanced" level of wheel rims and bases. I like the price point of this wheel rim and all the features it offers. I'm currently running a Logitech G29 and am looking to upgrade. What wheelbase from Fanatec would pair nicely with this? I don't want to break the budget...so I guess it appears CSL Elite or Clubsport are in the running??
Yes either of those would be a great choice 👍
@@davecamyt Do those bases use the connection style that comes with this wheel rim or do I have to buy a quick-release style? BTW, the new intro is a very nice touch!
You can use the quick release that is already there. If it were me, I'd only buy the metal one if I was using one of the Fanatec direct drive wheel bases 👍
Bit of a specific question, but is the shifter paddle quite loud on this? From some other videos it looked like it could be quite noisy
No, I wouldn't say it's loud loud. Louder than any of my other Fanatec wheels though
I bet you have a great collection of Allen keys by now!
Yep, but can never feckin find one when I need one 😳
Thanks for the good video, Iam waiting for my new wheel, I already bought it
But that intro, though! And I thought the British Sense of Humor was dead. Well-played.
Dave, what fanatec base is that for the wheel?
That looks nice I need to trade in my thrustmaster stuff for fanetec....man that insta is sick
Dave if i buy this in australia using your link does it still give you the commision
Yes I believe so 👍
@@davecamyt cool done
where are the classic Xbox buttons VIEW and MENU...?
That really is a sexy intro
New intro is awesome Dave! Do you know if there is a way to use that wheel on an Accuforce V2?
Your have to get it converted to usb
