I love how this wheel feels. Looks great and the buttons/dials have now got me making in race tweeks I never used to do. It’s attached to the 8nm CSL DD. Unfortunately I am now very disappointed after discovering cracking and plastic pieces breaking completely away at the shifter pivot point (lower area near QR). I noticed this after 4 months of ownership using it a few days per week. I am seeking a replacement from Fanatec who have offered a repair only once I arrange delivery to Fanatec service dept in Aus. I’m hoping that Fanatec eventually decide to comply with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) before a lodge my tribunal (NCAT) application this week.

Just ordered a GT3 V2 wheel together with a CSL DD for when it comes out in November (hopefully) will be very interested how much better it will be than my little G920 :)
Thank you for all the videos, i've been digging for a brand new setup with limited budget. Went for a DD pro GT 8NM + CSL pedals (without load cells because i don't have a rig) and this GT3 McLaren. I found all the information thanks to the channel
When I bought my V1 version of this wheel I cannot remember for sure but I believe the premium metal spring loaded quick release was included in the wheels purchase price. I do personally much prefer that quick release style over what appears to be a plastic turn to tighten quick release. EDIT: As I think back I believe actually there was some bundle deal or promotion that offered a pretty good discount on the metal spring loaded release if purchased with the wheel which I did take advantage of. The addition of the magnetic shifter paddles is nice but so far I have not had any issues with the mechanical versions on the original. Also maybe it is more of an issue with a direct drive wheel and the forces it exerts but with the more standard wheel bases what are people doing where flex within one of these wheels is an issue? With the money people are paying for these game controllers do they not take even a little care in the abuse they deliver to them or why would you need to be pulling or pushing on it hard enough for flex to be a concern? I guess maybe I just seem to treat what are rather expensive products to use for playing a game with a little more care so to increase the longevity and make my investment function as well as possible for as long as possible. The only thing I will say actually over 30 or so years give or take I have never had a wheel fail or need warranty repair from the cheaper Logitech products up to the Fanatec products and I am on like my fourth wheel setup all replaced just for something newer with more features none from failure or being worn out or broken. I do agree though for a reasonable priced wheel of this styling and the features included the MCLAREN GT3 wheel has always been a good all around wheel for most types of racing at its offered price point.
My apologies if you cover it later in the vid. At 14:23 you talk about flex in the wheel with that glass injected plastic mounting bracket. If you use the $99 quick release part, does that flex go away? It's amazing to think that wheel can be $199, but that flex looks annoying.
I really like the way this wheel looks and while I think it would be cool to have, that amount of flex in the mount would drive me crazy. It's very noticeable in the video
So I often hear people saying similar things, which is fine and all, but I’ve got to ask: How often are you pushing and pulling on the wheel to the point where you’d even notice the flex? I mean, when I race I generally turn the wheel and don’t push on it, and any flex in my Thrustmaster setup I don’t even notice mid-race unless I’m specifically looking for it.
Just pre-ordered. I have had my CSL Elite Playstation wheelbase and CS Shifter for about two weeks. Holy crap is it a big upgrade over pretty much all other gear and belt-driven wheels. Though I do realize the ClubSport wheelbase has a tad more torque, the newer CSL Elite wheelbases(Playstation version) with the ClubSport motor and sensors, etc. feels pretty fantastic. I cannot wait to try out this new steering wheel!
You are going to be happy I am sure. Have the same setup and this is now the wheel of choice. Does not look as good as some of the other products, but who looks at the wheel whilst driving. Feels awesome. Congrats on your new setup. Agree, it is a huge upgrade. Did the same abt 6 months ago. Well worth the investment.

I read the optional metal quick release solves the flex problem. I understand there was no real reason to try it here since you can plug the wheel to the base without an adapter, but I would have like to see the difference and you had the QR at hand
I really like my McLaren wheel, I like the size and shape way better than my formula V2. My issue with the McLaren wheel is it creaks, the side to side flex doesn't bother me but when it flexes the plastic creaks really bad and is very annoying. Have you noticed any of that with either of yours V1 or V2?
I just got mine, 2nd hand from a big franchise. Ordered a used v1 and got an immaculate boxed V2 with everything in there and as a bonus got the black metal connector thing with it. Pre attached which was nice. £160 😂
Im soo glad I waited on getting a wheel! I picked up the PS5 CSL WB during the BF sale but held off on the wheel in hopes for a consumer friendly GT3 wheel. now hopefully I can get one before they sell out!
This being available now, my upgrade path will definetly be the clubsport base and this wheel. I'm content with my stuff right now, but this is really appealing.
What I can't understand is that both Fanatec and Thrustmaster(Ferrari F1 rim) have shown they can make a push pull shifter on wheels. Both companies make Rally wheels. But neither company will put the push pull shifter on the rally wheel... Why??? Face palm emoji. BTW, great video guys!!
I have only had my Logitech G923 setup for a few months and I love sim racing. But I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of features by not going with a Fanatec setup with DD. What should I do?
I am still confused as to why they won't release a higher-end Podium GT3 wheel (I am not counting the recently announced BMW wheel, which will likely be as pricey as a small sports car, and not be an option for most). Something with the quality of their F1 wheels, but a bit wider and stockier. This looks nice, but I am still waiting for something a notch up in terms of build quality.
This is why I love Fanatec, they actually listen to the community, but I already have the f1 2020 and formula V2 wheel I met think about getting this or see if I could get the bmw wheel when it comes out
So did I, I was told Jan 20th on my pre order, but just yesterday it changed to Feb 9th. Did yours also change? I am trying to figure out why and whats going on
Indeed it seems like Fanatec has addressed the major flaws of the v1. I'm myself a very happy owner of the v1 after upgrading the shifter to SRM magnetic and the QR to Clubsport. Both upgrades made the wheel virtually perfect. Also, running mostly ACC, I do not have any problem with the multi-positions switches. With that being said, well done on the review.
@@michaelkopec.5814 no flex at all, at least on my wheel. Have heard of someone else having some flex though, mostly between the clubsport qr and the wheelbase. However, as said, not on my wheel.
I have this, the CSW V2.5 and V3 pedals in my shopping cart for when I have enough saved to buy. Only concerns are: Shipping from Germany after Brexit and, more importantly, is the issue with broken pins still happening. I think the CSQR gives better stability, no flex, but haven't seen anyone try it on the XBox One X.
Keep us updated! We discussed this video and the "play" in a group, so I started investigating the cause of the flex in this particular example. Because I have the WRC wheel which I'm also using on an clubsport base, I know the combination of the QR adapter and the base should be a solid link without too much play. The flex should come from the wheel design itself, which is weird because it's solid with the QR and the V1 was also solid as people in that group reported. So either Boosted Media didn't reattach the QR adapter properly before testing, or something is wrong with this particular unit.
It’s attached correctly snd the amount of flex with our V1 wheel and our WRC wheel are the same. As explained i. The video, with the metal quick release the flex comes from he sleeve itself so the flex depends on manufacturing tolerances between the wheelbase stem snd the metal QR. so it varies. With the plastic QR there’s minimal flex in the sleeve, and the flex comes from where the QR bolts to the wheel. The net result in my case being about the same amount of flex overall.
Guys tell me please, im little bit confused . i have Gran Turismo DD Pro for play GT 7 on my PS4 Pro . But im also looking to buy MClaren GT3 V2 for my Xbox series x . It seems to be compatible with my wheel base . But just want to hear from you guys . Will it work ? To play forza ( far expample) with GT DD PRO + MClaren GT3 v2 (xbox version) . Thanks in advance .
If you buy the Mclaren GT3 steering wheel it will be just fine. You can see the Xbox logo on the steering wheel right? That means the steering wheel has an Xbox compatibility chip in it. The GT7 DD Pro base has the ability to read Xbox compatibility chip but doesn't have one in it. It needs a Steering wheel with the chip to become compatible with Xbox. So the steering wheel itself will turn your base to Xbox compatible. So feel free to buy it and enjoy yourself a good Forza time. You have nothing to worry.
@@boostedmedia Thanks for your comment, that's what I was thinking to be honest. Btw, see your points about low / high torque... How does that work when it comes to CSL DD, can both these wheels be used with QR lite at both 5 and 8Nm?
Okay. So I've got one of the yearly "Special Edition" / V3 style F1 rims. And I get it, the thumb encoders are VERY cool from the perspective of additional inputs otherwise not available. But I find when I drive, I might "bump" those encoders. Enough so, that I've NEVER used them in-game. I have to unconfigure them, so I'm not changing a function accidently. Am I the only one with that problem? It seems like if they had more resistance or required a little more "click" to change... they might work better for me. And maybe I'm the only one with that issue. But yeah, I use the up/down switches for brake bias, etc... as those rotary encoders are as likely to be a hinderance for me, as much as they could be a help. :(
It was meant to be available to purchase at the same time this video went live. No idea why it’s not there but I’ll update the links in the description as soon as it shows up.
I have purchased this wheel like the layout etc, but the rattling from the buttons are just a non starter for me. Reverted back to my old wheel which does not rattle like this. I have emailed Fanatec with video and they say this is normal.
I'm still using the logitech g920 and I want to get this v2 wheel. Should rush out and get the v2 or am I good for now. I use the Asetto corsa racing games. And the f1 23
mc laren gt 3 wheel is my favorite of all fanatec rims. the quality seems cheap. button make weird noises. plastic stuff and so on. but it's by far the one with the best handling for GT3 cars. recommended!
Is this stiffer/more solidly built than v1? Never have had shift-problems in v1 but damn how I hate how it make plasticky knircs and knarcs all the time. Hand grips area is the worst, you don't even have to squuze hard, just keeping your grilp and it still make annoying noise. That alone has kept my from using it except sometimes briefly
@Boosted Media I'm seriously tempted (I currently have the standard CSL Elite wheel and base), but as nice as the extra rotary dials and the little toggle switches are, I'd like to know whether all of them can actually be assigned to controls within Assetto Corsa and iRacing. The directional button on my wheel is not supported by either sim without using JoyToKey (assigning the directional button to keystrokes, then assigning those keystrokes to functions within each sim), so I'm assuming it's the same story with the GT3 rim. Whilst using JoyToKey works, it's clumsy, especially when switching between sims (and extra especially when JoyToKey fails to launch automatically when the sim I'm playing launches, which seems to be about 20% of the time!). Will, if you could report on how assignable the extra buttons are in AC and iRacing that would be much appreciated! Cheers man.
If you use the csl elite ps4 base it will work on ps4/5 xbox one/series x and pc. Its really diverse. My csl elite base, pedals and this rim arrived the other day and I've been playing on an xbox one. Definitely worth the money but be careful, if you are getting it shipped to the UK, upon arrival they will want about £130 because of brexit shipping and stuff🙂
I have a CSL Elite PS4 base and am really baffled if I should go for the McLaren GT3 V2 or the Formula Carbon wheel as for GT and Formula races. Does anyone have any preferences? 😁
So my clubsport v2.5 won't just shred the plastic connector apart? I'm curious how well these hold up. Almost want to cheap out and skip the formula wheel and get this.
Can you recommend this wheel on a DD wheel which is never being used above 8NM? I am struggeling to find a wheel with a great grip for my medium to large sized hands and with at least one joystick or funky switch for ingame menu settings. Wondering if this wheel + the SRM usb conversion kit is worth it.. Thx and keep up the awesome work!
I’m excited about the wheel and was ready to pre-order. But I got extremely worried about the significant flex, viewed at 13:58. How can that be acceptable? I have CSL Elite and it has zero flex in that direction.
I was pulling on it harder than you ever would when driving because if I don’t then people accuse me of hiding flex. As I said in the video I really don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. It’s not noticeable at all when driving.
hey I have a question, I have been racing for over 20 years on the controller because I can't use my feet, when I buy this wheel do I also need to buy the foot pedals or just the wheel and the base to work ? please let me know!!! I can't wait to start driving with the wheel !!!
I want this one, perfect layout. No screen is good since I use VR :) but this wheel has way better finish than the real McLaren wheel inside the race car :)
How are you liking the wheel? I need some actual real world reviews, because I need to convinve someone that the extra 100€ for the GT3 bundle is worth it😅
Hello, can you answer me one question because I tried sending the message to Fanatec and I didn't get the response... Do I need the metal quick release to enable high torque mode on GT DD PRO 8NM wheelbase? (does gt dd pro even has that high torque mode?) I would try to save some money and not buy the metal QR at least for now...
The thing is, its not really about upgrading from v1, because v1 was very limited. not that many people own a v1. the quick release adapter seems a must have. the review should be done with qr adapter!
Firstly, we approached the review from the perspective of a first time buyer as well as for those looking at upgrading. Secondly, we have reviewed the new QR in detail with our WRC wheel review previously, with direct comparisons and flex tests snd this was referenced multiple times in this video. The QR is not a “must have” unless you have a DD1 or DD2, and as this is a CSL Elite product it will appeal primarily to CSW and CSL base owners, which is why we reviewed it with a CSW and referenced our previous tests of the same mount with the DD2 previously for those interested.
I’m looking at getting it for my Xbox. Only question is regarding setting up or configuring on the Xbox. Can all buttons be configured or will it restrict it?
This combined with the CSL DD would be my ideal setup for price to performance. Everything I need with a little extra for not insain prices.

Shoot I may order a V2 as a spare in case they discontinue it again. I love this wheel.
It's good to know that it will work with the CSW base. I was thinking it would require an Elite base to use.
When I bought the v1 the premium quick release was actually included, I was surprised and happy that I got it :D
I'm curious, what should the turn radius be for gt3 racing? I imagine it's not 900 with a wheel like this.
Ordered...I'll see how the QR is,
but I'll probably fit the metal QR.
Thanks for the video!
If you could only pick one wheel, would you take this or WRC wheel?
WRC if I could only have one as it’s more versatile.
@@boostedmedia Thanks for your comment, that's what I was thinking to be honest. Btw, see your points about low / high torque... How does that work when it comes to CSL DD, can both these wheels be used with QR lite at both 5 and 8Nm?
Can you try it with the club sport adapter to see if there is any flex? As I can see that breaking in a sort period of time.
As I said in the video we’ve previously tested extensively with the WRC wheel review video. Check that one out for side by side comparisons.
that flex would worry me running on a dd drive
Great wheel. The only thing it lacks is native USB connection.
Hey Will, how do manage the lack of L2R2 buttons on the F1 games?
Looks like SRM is going to get real busy again with conversion kits for this wheel!!! Nice review Will 👍
Why? This one already has nice magnetic Shifters so there is not really a reason anymore to go for the SRM ones
He’s talking about conversion kits to use it on other bases.
@@boostedmedia Exactly!! Thank you Will...
@@momorious Conversion kits for other wheel bases such as Simucube. I've converted my Fanatec wheels with SRM kits, they are Amazing.
where is the purchase link i cant find it on the fanatec website
It was meant to be available to purchase at the same time this video went live. No idea why it’s not there but I’ll update the links in the description as soon as it shows up.
@@boostedmedia thanks you
Quite happy about the price point, might pick this one up
CSL Elite Steering Wheel McLaren GT3 V2 vs ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2? Which is more value for money? I have the CSL Elite 1.1 wheelbase.
Do you know if this will be compatible with the metal Clubsport Quick Release adapter?
Yes, it is compatible with the Clubsport Quick Release adapter.
I can’t find it anywhere online
How do I get it
In the Fanatec store :)
How does this compare to the Clubsport Formula Carbon? What would be the benefit?
Preordered immediately
do you think forcefeedback is more noticeable than regular round shape wheel or does it give less forcefeedback because of made of plastic.?
I have purchased this wheel like the layout etc, but the rattling from the buttons are just a non starter for me. Reverted back to my old wheel which does not rattle like this. I have emailed Fanatec with video and they say this is normal.
I'm still using the logitech g920 and I want to get this v2 wheel. Should rush out and get the v2 or am I good for now. I use the Asetto corsa racing games. And the f1 23
Hello, does the low torque mode include GT DD bases when using the plastic quick release adaptor?
Is this safe to buy even though fanatec has been having problems lately, like with shipping
mc laren gt 3 wheel is my favorite of all fanatec rims. the quality seems cheap. button make weird noises. plastic stuff and so on. but it's by far the one with the best handling for GT3 cars. recommended!
Cant figure out why the wheel lcd display on assetto corsa doesnt work. Do i need to download the v2 GT3 forst? Or is it plug and play?
Cheers man.
Would you say this is a good beginners wheel? And would it work on a PlayStation with a direct drive that is PS compatible
As for dd, you need the €100 quick release adapter to use it in high torque mode on fanatec podium direct drive base. And its spot on for beginners
Thx and keep up the awesome work!
i am planning to get one too so that means i don't need to buy the quick release adater?just the wheel is fine?using2 .5base
whats the max torque with the wheel without the quick release? 8nm?
I’m excited about the wheel and was ready to pre-order. But I got extremely worried about the significant flex, viewed at 13:58. How can that be acceptable? I have CSL Elite and it has zero flex in that direction.
I was pulling on it harder than you ever would when driving because if I don’t then people accuse me of hiding flex. As I said in the video I really don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. It’s not noticeable at all when driving.
@@boostedmedia OK. Thanks for clearing it up
hey I have a question, I have been racing for over 20 years on the controller because I can't use my feet, when I buy this wheel do I also need to buy the foot pedals or just the wheel and the base to work ? please let me know!!! I can't wait to start driving with the wheel !!!
I want this one, perfect layout. No screen is good since I use VR :) but this wheel has way better finish than the real McLaren wheel inside the race car :)
and I bought it :) very happy!
How are you liking the wheel? I need some actual real world reviews, because I need to convinve someone that the extra 100€ for the GT3 bundle is worth it😅
Im glad I didn’t buy the formula rim on black friday !! Just preordered the GT3 wheel and i cant wait to drive with it
Hello, can you answer me one question because I tried sending the message to Fanatec and I didn't get the response...
Do I need the metal quick release to enable high torque mode on GT DD PRO 8NM wheelbase? (does gt dd pro even has that high torque mode?)
I would try to save some money and not buy the metal QR at least for now...
So...a buddy gave me his GT3 V1. Looks like I should invest in the quick release. Or...just get the V2.
Cant wait to order :)
