One HUGE draw to ESO that I don't recall you mentioning is that any player can adventure with any player at any level. That is by far the biggest reason my friends and I still play. Everything scales to your level and you don't have to wait to level with friends or family that can't play as much. Or, as in my case, I'm the one that can't play nearly as much as my friends.
@@RisenOswaldAs a new player you are scaled up in power. The world bosses are easier for new players, but overall, they were buffed by like... 20% a few years ago.
@@RisenOswald Outside of the World Bosses you won't find anything challenging in the Overworld. Most Normal difficulty dungeons are pretty easy too. The scaling actually ruined how much fun it used to be to roam into an area that was way too powerful for your level. The only thing really challenging in ESO are vet level dungeons (some) and Trials, plus the solo stuff like Maelstrom.
As a heavy metal wielding in your face necro orc, I can say it's the most fun I can have in an mmo. I love scaring the ever living ish out of other players.
@@rickroll9705 every build is good if it's your play style. Yes there can be a OP class and set every module but if you play your play style it won't really matter. Fun is fun, if winning is all ypure after then fun isn't fun and it feels like work.
This video did it. I will finally dive into ESO after having been on the edge for ages. Thank you very much for this well constructed and presented showcase.
Comment stealing to just say, the PlayStation version is comparatively dead, and the xbox community is more toxic than PC. It can be fun on those platforms, but PC is a better choice if you can swing it. Especially because it has mods which are often essential.
This was extremely helpful as someone deciding whether to give this game a try. It’s clear you love it, but you did not seem biased and gave both strengths and weakness instead of just pretending it’s perfect. Thank you!
I had my reservations a year ago, but gave it a chance, found the correct linear path for the entire current story and solod the entire thing and fam, what a journey its been. Quit doubting and give it a go. I recommend playing solo until you know a good portion of the game, like mechanics and locations, then join a guild or whatever and make friends and explore mid to late game with em.
@@silentium7357 Have been playing this game for 4 years now and I'm absolutely loving! If you're unsure about wether or not this game might be worth a monthly fee I recommend you first buy the base game and enjoy the hours and hours of content it will provide. It's a truly great game which takes the term "free world" to a whole new level and lets you customize your game experience exactly as you want. And it's both fun playing solo just as playing in a group.
@@trashpanda7010 i bought it the full dlc packs 2 weeks ago and now im 136cp sorcerer. Youre right. This game is really really fun to play solo or group. I didnt regret it at all !
I've been having a blast with ESO for a few years now. If anyone is on the fence on whether or not they should try it (especially in lieu of WoW due to all the shifty stuff happening studio side for them) then I can't recommend ESO enough. It's a very enjoyable game with a very welcoming and helpful community. ESO and FFXIV both have amazing communities.
Very organic game, you level up what you do and it really adds up in time. Fun quests, amazing lore and the fact that the PvP in in an entire country constantly battling for conquest makes it really immersive and quite fun
Unfortunately the lore contradicts itself. Like, 100% of the time. If it’s supposed to replicate how convoluted real life history is, then it’s doing a good job, cuz there are so many retcons in this universe! It’s still really fun tho 😁😂
This game allows for some pretty funky builds. I fondly remember my magica nightblade tank, who was sustained by blood magic and the shadows and could solo most world bosses at a snail's pace but assured survivability. There were definitely some elitists who would take one look at the tank using a staff and initiate a kick. But the majority that stuck around enjoyed solid tanking, and even some off heals from the tank during chaotic moments. Critical role is going to get me right back into this game, damn them. I wonder what I should level this time.
I picked this game up after I first watched this video a few weeks ago and I’ve been hooked since. I’m not an MMO guy but this game is an exception. Yes, play it!
its a pretty fantastic/bad first mmo. Its fantastic because its quite easy to get into and its bad because its better thn 90 percent of MMO's out there and going from this to another for a first timer wont feel good.
@@SoullessAIMusic well its good then that the game is so stuffed with content that you really dont need any other mmo :3 Eso is like this cozy digital bonfire I can alway return to and have relaxed fun with. Played it since the beta and while I might turn it off for some months now and then, it always draws me back in eventually.
@@allanredhill8682 Well, I would say it's a fantastic/bad first MMO for another reason that the guy above... it's fantastic because of the world, the story, the exploration, the voice acting, the quests are AMAZING, the lore is endless... and it's bad because it literally has THE WORST combat system out of any big MMO ever... WoW is better, GW2 is better, BDO is better, Tera is better, Neverwinter is better... just pick an MMO name, put it there and write it's better when it comes to combat... who the hell thought that swinging a big ass sword and feeling it has no impact whatsoever would be fun??? Who the hell thought that playing a stamina class and having to have almost no class skills would be fun??? Who thought that bows should be shot like toys??? Who thought that the best ults in the game should come from the Mages and Fighters guilds??? Whoever designed this combat system should never find work at any video game's development EVER!!! The guy managed to turn the best MMO world anyone could ever make up to this point and turn a game with that good of a world and lore into an average MMO... I mean ffs... how can you have worse combat than 90% of the free to play MMOs out there????
@@sportschool3537 Dunno man the only game on that list I actually prefer over ESO when it comes to combat is Guild Wars 2. And I guess BDO but that's literally 100% because of it's special effects and 0% because of actual gameplay. ESO has some floaty animations, yes, but the combat just rocks when it comes to what you can do with it - Especially in endgame, imo. The actual gameplay is better. And besides the floaty animations really aren't so bad, and they only really affect melee. Every decent ESO player plays with a ton of animation cancelling anyways so I don't even notice. Edit, tho: I really really hate tab-targeting so that might be why I disagree. I prefer ESO's more fast paced, 'skill-based' combat, where I gotta think fast and manage my resources aswell as synergize properly with my friends. I just cannot ever return to a game like WoW after that, where I remember my gameplay pretty much just being setting a macro that autocasts my series of spells for me as I couldn't be arsed to do that number dance at some point.
What's great about ESO is that the majority of the game is in the open-world, and things like pvp and group trials are optional, so you can do the content you feel comfortable with since the game doesn't force you to do everything, which is good because nobody has enough time on their hands to do everything this game has to offer. I'll definitely be playing this for years to come
re-downloading, remembered I played this years ago, they've still kept my account details from 2104, turns out I beta'd this and got the Imperial upgrade. itll be like playing from scratch.
I was a founder back in 2014, but never really played heavily until 2017. I've been out of the game for the last few years, but I like to pop back in now and then to see the new stuff. Honestly, as much as I griped with how different from traditional TES ESO is I have to say it is one of the most fulfilling solo player MMO experiences out there.
@@nattapongsanta3419 Try it out now. Its currently free. And max level is 3600 I saw nobody who has reach that yet. But you have to be into stories and lore. The game is all about immersion into the lore. And not like wow where you play 7 dungeons over and over here you have 46 :)
The part about the classes really hits home. My first character was a Breton sorceror and the first 200 hours or so were really enjoyable. Just running around adventuring and figuring stuff out, exploring the world. Then I started to get into dungeons and harder PvE content, and I made my sorceror became a dedicated healer. Some people were questioning why I picked a sorceror instead of templar. When I looked at the difference in class abilities it became clear that templars were meant to be a healing class because they had all the healing options but sorcerors were not. In cases like this, your chosen class does make a pretty big difference. I didn't let that stop me though, I'd just have to do my best with what I had. In the end, I played with several guilds and progressed to clearing veteran trials, though vMoL was a struggle and our guild never got around to trying vHoF. At that point I had other commitments in life and stopped playing actively, but I was glad to have dragged my sad excuse of a sorc healer as far as I did. Looking back now, if the classes were any less well-designed, that would not have been possible.
People might seem to dislike the combat but I've really enjoyed it. I always like fighting enemies when I adventure. I come from a traditional tab targetting mmo scene (mainly FFXIV), but I've been super enjoying myself lately.
I have been in and out of this game since launch. Jumped back in again recently, and want to make a concerted effort to follow it through till the end this time
You saying this isn't Skyrim online...but it really is the closest you're going to get. If you are into story based content and soloing this game has so much and it's all voice acted. You really want to get immersed there are ingame books, endless sidequests and hidden collectables giving you reason to explore. It's going to be a long wait for the next Eldars Scrolls game so if you love the series I definitely recommend this game to tide you over. Also Star Wars TOR is a great singleplayer story experience too.
I never got to beat Skyrim, played it several times but a huge fallout fan. This game has been sitting on my dresser forever now, think im going to pick it up. Love TES lore
@@jonathansoko1085 Why are you lying? You can literally just look through the Imperial Library and UESP and see that ESO has more unique lore books than any of the singleplayer games do. If you're going to make a comment this confidently, atleast research it beforehand. ESO unique lore is 60% of what TES lore communities discuss nowadays.
3:36 It should be noted that there is a pack in the in game store that allows for any race any faction. So they aren't fully locked. And the Warden is also a premium class.
I started playing in March 2020 after watching the earlier edition of this video. The answer is yes! (As long as you don't mainly play PVP.) It's buggy AF but the social aspect is great. Best community of any MMO I've played. Smaller than WoW, so every zone feels buzzing with activity. You can join up to five guilds so it's easy to make friends, and most people are chill and helpful. I'm working on veteran trials with a raid group now and it still remains fun. Progression is relatively quick and you can't gimp your character, so you can feel free to try any build you want.
3:36 You can also unlock "any race, any faction" through the cash shop, if you really want, but your faction doesn't really matter outside of RP or PvP. Your faction doesn't limit which in game or player guilds you can join nor who you can group with for quests, dungeons, raids, etc.
You can pay to be able to play as any alliance. To be fair you can have a few characters so you can have some from each alliance anyway. You can buy the base game quite reasonably and do a lot of content straight away
tbf, unless you're looking to do Cyrodiil PvP (or the somewhat limited PvE stuff like Skyshards and delves), alliance won't really affect anything outside of your Fighter/Mage's Guild location and where the Harbourage (recurring main quest instance) is. You can go anywhere, party with anyone, and afaik, you can even do the small scale arena PvP with anyone.
@@T8-TR Yeah, Battlegrounds PVP has teams but they're randomized, not Alliance-based. Unless you want to go with a group of your friends, in which case they're not randomized but you still don't have to be the same Alliance.
@Patridge yea the biggest reason wow is still a titan is only because most folks who spend money on the MMOs are people in the 30s or greater and when WoW first came out they had money and time to try out the first big MMO, which is now a 'nostalgia' factor for them. Just like how doom and tetris have a 'nostalgia' feel so attract millions of players.
the DLC is pretty fantastic in this game, at first I was sad to see John Cleeses'es Cadwell was only at the beginning segment of the game but in additional DLC they bring his character back for a much larger roll.
Played it for a bit. Couldn't stick with it though because of the lack of immersion. Abandoned dungeons are like Waterloo station at rush hour and all the loot in said abandoned places seemed to consist mainly of lock picks. It is an amazing world with a deep lore but when you explore a newly discovered Dwemer ruin only to find a ton of other players there and the relics left by a long gone race are mainly picks and junk then the incentive to explore other places vanishes rapidly.
@@samgoff5289 It's not the expectation of perfect immersion exactly, more with fleshing out a 3D world where everything fits and is consistent with that worlds law. Tera is a prime example of it being done really really badly. Swords and sorcery mixed with disco flamingos, cop cars and other outlandish junk that just don't fit.
My favorite part of ESO is horizontal progression similar to GW2. Once you hit gear cap at CP 160 that gear will always be relevant. New content is just more options for sets, but your old ones are still viable. Unlike vertical progression MMOs like WOW or FFXIV you don’t need to get back on the treadmill just because they released new content.
Same. And to mention it here, it wasn't always like that, but also shows why I enjoy and like ESO so much: With one of the first DLCs they raised the level/gear cap (but you didn't actually need the DLC for this). People still didn't like it, so developers said "screw it" and from then on only provided horizontal progression in new content releases. Also noteworthy, at launch people were disappointed about the lack of Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild, so they actually delayed their whole content plans by about a year to deliver these guilds first. And they didn't really rush them, they got their own unique stories and areas etc. as you'd expect. Of course some parts are a bit weaker here in there (in later DLCs, too), but overall I've always had the impression of devs listening and playing themselves (some of the leads also stream in their spare time).
@@Smaxx Definitely! The dailies for DB and TG are also fun. I think TG is such a unique gameplay for anything in MMOs. Those heists can be hard (at least for me). What's great is that stealing and assassinating carriers on in other parts of the game.
I've tried to get into ESO three separate times. The second time I ended up playing for around a month. I just started again last week but for whatever reason I'm really enjoying it much more than I did the other two times. I might stick around for good this time.
I started playing ESO back during the PC beta and have been playing since. Its such a fun game and though there's a lot of toxic players in it I've met some of the chillest most friendly players I've ever known in multiplayer video games in ESO.
A funny story I experienced back in 2014 when I played during the beta and at release: I had no idea that each faction had only 3 different races playable. I could choose my race, my faction and then start my adventure. Where in reality it was part of the preorder bonus. You also got a pretty cheap mount, back then your first horse was so expensive, rarely anyone had one.
Love the channel, been playing ESO on PS4 since day one and have loved it as I've grown with the game. What really keeps me coming back to the game every time I take a hiatus is that the gear I crafted and spent massive amounts of resources to make legendary at least 5 years ago now is still very much viable for most content. Everything I've made for top level is still used on alta and some cases even still some of my main characters
I played from Beta, up until about 2 months ago. The constant bugs/crashes/bad instances in trials just got too frustrating. That coupled with having to grind even more CP with the new system, despite having been past cap for a while was just too much. It was fun, and for a new player who isn't doing trials etc it can be very rewarding.
I started with Daggerfall and it's insanely large patch. Really considering getting into this. With you 100% on the whole 'Chosen one' thing. At least City of Villains 'Chosen Ones" was an entire program run by the villains to weed out competition.
@@michaelschneider1365 imo I think the graphics are amazing until you look at something in first person. There is a next gen update coming out soon though.
Just a note - you can buy an all races, all factions upgrade which let's you be any race. If you have eso+ you can buy that after one month with the crowns you get
Also to the people who say eso combat is 'weightless' and 'bad' - you have a unique combat system that has no cool downs on abilities, no slow tab targeting system and the freedom to run pretty much any ability anywhere and you're talking about 'weight'? It sounds like someone who hasn't got to endgame or worked out the combat system to get the satisfying feeling you can get from it. It's quite literally the only reason I've stayed in the game so long for a PvPer, cos god knows everything else about PvP is shit
Minor note - there is something you can buy that lets you play any race with any alliance. Other than that, this was an incredibly accurate video, very informative, and your usual top quality :)

I was a D1 player and kept dropping it after a few weeks despite try and get several times. However after seeing this video I noticed that I was viewing it in the wrong way that you mentioned where I wanted to get leveling fast and join my friends. I’m going to give it another shot and treat it like a proper elder scrolls game. Thanks
The real issue with the crafting is the timegating though, if you want to get certain traits researched it can take 1 week plus each easily, which you can of course pay RM to shorten
I first played this on release, then went back to Wow. A few years later I got fed up with the grind at top level in WoW and gave ESO another go. Now going from playing WoW for so many years to ESO was so annoying to start with, In WoW at end game raids you have to have the correct spec, the correct gear. So to start with I looked for what I should be aiming for, as reguards spec and gear, and what did I find, noughting!! appart from well this is good or this if you want, or you could do it this way. Did I accept that, no!! as it must be some closely guarded secret, but slowly over time you realise that there is no correct build or gear. The next thing that got me was doing a dungen run and the healer going AFK 5 min's in, did the tank stop and cus' out the healer kick them and look for a new one, again no, he just carried on going saying the healer will be back at some point. This was all wrong to my WoW brain, but over time I found it so much better, more free flowing, and I haven't gone back to WoW since.
Started playing about a year ago, I mostly play solo and I absolutely love it! The game feels super relaxing to me, the beautiful landscapes and music is almost therapeutic!
@@jesquesan A lot of people get overwhelmed by the games sheer size. But I personally view that as a strength. The game is pretty much designed for you NOT to be able to do all of everything intentionally. They really went for making it feel like a true living world, as much as I love the other elder scrolls games once you do 70%+ of the important stuff the games get boring with very little content. This isn’t the case in ESO, it’s practically impossible to be a completionist in this game. Because it’s one of the games that are closer to being an actual living world. Once you do the same amount of stuff that makes up the other TES games, you aren’t a 70%, you’re *barely at 30% at best.* Thats what I love about this game, *I know for a fact* that I’ll never be able to truly finish and do everything that I possibly could. Just like in real life. There will always be a new series of adventures to come back to after I set the game down for a few months and take a long break.
Ive been playing on ps4 since June 2016 and have over 5,700 hours across 10 characters, I have all chapters and dlc, the imperial race, necromancer class and all the chapter collector's bonuses
ESO is a top notch game, I’ve 3000 hours in it personally and I have loved every hour of it, late game success is a big reward of taking your time in the early game, you can rush and power level, but your skill lines won’t be max level, take your time levelling, find a class you love and sink your time into it, try to level all skill lines, do all the easy dungeons, try below 50 cyrodil, complete zones and get your wayshrines for teleporting later on, don’t fall into the whole power levelling if you’re just starting out, take your time, enjoy and just wait for the late game, much rewarding process if you ask me.

9,000 hours and counting. Started just before Morrowind launched, but right after One Tamriel. Favorite MMO, bar none. While other games and activities have commanded the majority of my focus in the past few months due to shifts in my social life, ESO's something I find myself still returning to because of how freeing it is. Whether I'm crafting at my forge at home or exploring the world outside or even just listening to a bard in a tavern, I rarely feel as though my time is wasted in ESO. Soon as I log on, the real world fades from the forefront of my consciousness, replaced by the sound of nature, of cities, or sometimes just my crackling fireplace and the purring of my cat. Few games make me feel so at home and at ease.
Really depends on how you want to play eso if you just want to be social and do some chill dungeons and the occasional battleground or whatever then it's ok.
good point. i didnt think of it that way. if you just wanna farm matts and overland quest. sure. if you want to actually take on the challenging content. Don't even bother. I say that as someone who had near every achievement (didnt manage deathless AS or deathless Cloudrest). Tanked & DPS'd every piece of vet content up and through Suspire. Yeah ESO+ is hardly worth the craft bag mainly the dungeons, everyone always recommends just using it to buy the rest of the dlc cus you get the ingame currency and its just makes me wanna facepalm
Glad you pointed out the One Server feature. it is IMO the most important feature, because with other games my friends always end up split across a handful of servers and it kills the game for me.

I started playing a month ago. I switched from Fallout 76 and I literally haven't put the game down. I haven't played any other game in over a month. It might actually be my favorite game apart from Oblivion 😋
So, a few notes: While you don't actually need it, ESO+ is a must if you plan to play it for long. It basically includes everything but the latest expansions (it just released a week ago, that is 1sr of june, and it's Blackwood) which is brutal. The game allow you to join 5 guilds at the same time per account. Once you join a guild, you join as an account, not as a character. Guilds can be PvE, PvP or trade guilds Trade guilds have several vendors scattered in the world, as this game HAS NOT a auction house. The trade is handled between trade guilds and guild vendors. You can buy from all of them but you can only sell through the vendor of a guild you are member of. Most trade guilds demands a donation or a sell volume to stay as a member. Some don't. There's a housing system in the game, and it's pretty awesome, but it requires a lot of farming. A LOT. You can add both normal and specialized crafting stations to your home and travel to it from anywhere. You can also add NPC's as guards or butlers (they don't do anything, but you can stablish if they can move or where they can move around the house) a ton, millions of decorations. 70% of the houses can be bought with in game gold, the same for decorations (in fact crafting stations can only be bought with in game gold). One of the most awesome homes of the game is rewarded for free in the PvE main story on Elsewyr. It has a ton of space, gardens, it's own private baths and even a little house inside the house. It's awesome. Others free houses are just inn rooms, little 2x6 spaces inside a local inn or "apartment building" of sorts. The cash shop has a lot of content, but while there's no official way to change in game gold for crowns (the cash shop currency) and viceversa, everything in the cash shop can be delivered to other players as a gift, so a network and a exchange have been built so another player can send anything from the cash shop with ingame gold. It's a little shady since it's a "verbal agreement" between two characters so you need to trust each other honesty as a seller/buyer, but there are discords and communities built around this gold-crown exchange than can handle fair transactions and makes sure both buyer and seller had a fair treatment, so, in a way, you can actually acces to the crown store with in game gold.
I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like they've been sneaking in graphic improvements every year. The environments have always looked great, but I remember player characters looking really aesthetically unpleasant, dated and given very stiff animation when I first looked into it. Every couple of years I get curious, watch a video like this about it, and the more recent the video the more improved the player characters look. One of these days I'll actually try the game out for the first time. XD
Day one adopter, but I didn’t get very far back then because I was super busy all the time. Coming back now to see what I’ve been missing and I’ve been having a blast just enjoying the world
I bought the base ESO game a few months back but couldn’t really get on with it and have stuck to GW2 as my main since. Your vid has prompted me to give ESO another try...
@@DHCPS That may well be the case, but whether that matters I think it depends on what you really want from a MMO. I’m a virtual newbie at them, but already I can see that GW2 is aimed at a particular type of gamer, and I am exactly that kind of gamer (I get an hour a day to game if I’m very lucky). Tbh I’ve barely scratched the surface of GW2 let alone ESO. I’ll stick with both, but I think it’ll be many months before I can really appreciate the differences between the two.
@@AdamF878 I'm assuming from your comments that you haven't gotten to end game in GW2, yet. So, a quick heads-up; end game (the expansions are considerd end game) is nothing like the base game. It's like a whole new game and it is much less friendly to players with limited time. In ESO, what you see is what you get, start to finish. Anyway, have fun, whichever game you settle on.
3:40 correction races aren't faction locked, you can buy a thing in the crown store (ofc cuz it's zenimax) that allows you to use any race for any faction.

Thanks for the feedback. If you are on pc I will try to wave at everyone to be sure to wave hello if I happen to pass you!
I've been playing ESO for a while (started over on PS4 now cause my PC is dead) but I can tell you this... story is amazing, world is and looks awesome, voice acting is the best out of any MMO, even side quests are worth playing cause they're so interesting... Combat System? Absolute trash!!! One of the worst out there... if this game had the combat system of Neverwinter or GW2 I would be playing ESO 24/7 stopping only to go to work or sleep... seriously... the story and world are THAT GOOD... combat is absolutely horrifyingly bad though... pressing 2-3 buttons over and over and ooooover... and in the end game playing your class any other way than the meta is damn near impossible and weapon skills animations are TERRIBLE... the bow feels like a toy bow, no impact... the dual wield skills are so clunky and don't feel like a real weapon swing... which is why people run around only with dual swords and staves... they are the only ones that are NOT ANNOYINGLY BAD The fact that I can't stress enough how bad the combat is in this game shows you how good everything else is for me to be playing a game that I hate the combat with so much passion...
@@sportschool3537 combat is alright, get good lmao. 2-3 buttons over and over? No wonder you're whining about combat lmao. I use at least 4-5 skills all the time and weapon switch all the time to keep up the buffs, dots, heals etc. Combat is very satisfying and fun.
Big ol' rant incoming for anyone looking for a few negative aspects of ESO to help make the decision to play. Ive got some 1000+ hours in the game and Ive spent way too much time with it if im being honest. The biggest problem(s) with ESO in my opinion are that its almost TOO open ended until it isn't. When it comes to group content, and even personal power, the game doesn't allow you for much wiggle room. For high level end game content, unless you're fine with being an anchor to the group, you're almost forced into specific builds that suck a lot of player choice out. For example, my necromancer has give or take, 3 necromancer spells. The rest of my ability bars consist of either mages guild abilities that are slotted SPECIFICALLY for their "in slot" passive *glares at mage light*, or abilities from generic skill trees that required a TON of random grinding to even unlock. (lookin at you mages guild book hunt). Sure, I could shit-can the entire "build" and run whatever talents I prefer, live out my borderline edgelord dreams of summoning tons of skeletons and such that I had when I CHOSE the necromancer class. But that breaks the games stance on open ended character creation. Which in theory is fine, however a pretty significant percentage of the player base was given a tutorial by hellen keller, and doesnt understand the skills or their role in the content the person chooses to do. Is this the games fault? Yes. Is it also the players fault? Also yes. Is it also somehow Weird Al's fault? Sure, i'm sure we can make a connection somewhere. Regardless, the open ended character skill system is inherently broken due to JUST how open ended it is. I cannot count the number of times Ive had to leave LFG groups because my tank was a sorc with a resto staff, zero tank skills or abilities who queued as a tank for the fast queue time and then expected the healer to be able to handle healing him through that, multiple times only to type out enough slurs to make 4chan happy and then leave himself. Its a real problem. Am I going to bitch like this and not give a possible fix? No thats stupid, this is the internet obviously everything is thought out completely before its posted. *ehem* This could be easily fixed by adopting a much more WoW or FFXIV system to the classes. If you choose necromancer, you choose one of the 3 specs. One is a tank, one is a dps and one is healer. Those core abilities are what you use, with those abilities supplimented by a few other skill trees. We do not need a whole ass skill tree for the fighters guild, the mages guild, the psijic order, the cheese maker society ect. Just allow players to unlock some passives and maybe an ultimate or a single ability from those. Keep classes in their lane. I chose necromancer to play a necromancer, not a clone of the sorc next to me in riften except with some extra bones hangin around. The literal only difference between me and a random sorc hanging out, is LITERALLY probably 2 spells. Instead of an angry daedric triceratops, I summon skeletor's anorexic cousin. By choosing the tank spec, you are inately going to be able to tank with those abilities. No more ranger tanks trying to take a bosses punch to the face with a bow. Rain of arrows is not mitigation and thats a hill I will die on (and so will that archer tank tbh) trim the abilities and lock people to their classes. We chose them for a reason when we made our dark elf abominations. If youre someone who wants to play ESO for the stories, the quests, and maybe play with a few friends during that, then I can whole heartedly say that its a wonderful game for that, hell the dark brotherhood story alone has given me more fun than I can explain, the blade of Woe not even included because lets be honest, that thing is the most fun item in the game. However, the Trials, dungeons (vet level specifically) and end game content are a NIGHTMARE unless you happen upon a guild willing to bring you to those things, assuming you meet the criteria. Thank you for coming to my DedTalk. /RantOver
Amen to that. The veteran n vet hm trials basically throw player choice out the window.Going with the meta class/gear for each role is the bare minimum for the endgame. To be able to pull your own weight in endgame group content (especially as a dps or healer) u gotta know how to abuse the game's animation cancelling(weaving) else u won't do anywhere near the required damage to not get carried through content. And mastering animation cancelling is pure nightmare cuz of the usually bad ping on the servers. And the trial trifecta achievements will wanna make you cry lmao. Prolly one of the best games for casual players but if you really wanna go hardcore and do endgame stuff be prepared to sacrifice your soul :v
2022 and it is still good and fun and endless and expansive as hell. Bought it last month, signed for plus yesterday and haven't been able to put it down since. It is SO GOOD! The customization is endless, the world is MASSIVE and an absolute blast to explore and walk around and you can just make whatever the hell you want in regards to classes and characters. I have a bit of a gripe with plus but i feel like it offers enough content in it that the price feels justified and yet feel completely optional! Fantastic game. So glad i bought it. I think it's safe to say it became my top 3 favorite MMOs of all time.
One of the funniest things I saw was John Cleese giving an interview as part of a promotion for the game and he kept talking about Cadwell as if he were the main character of the game, it was hilarious.
Been paying since launch and am still enjoying the game. I am a big fan of housing and now have 45 decorated homes. Crafting is expensive so spend time farming and trading. I like how they have made the game easier to get to and play with a group of different levels. The necromancer tank is probably my favorite toon. There is no bad class. Trials are varied and challenging. The story is good and the dlcs are great at building on the base game. Really something for everyone.
I dont agree with the lack of limitation comment Josh. End game content is actually very limited, if you want to tank you are DK, if you want to heal you do a Paladin, If you want to DPS you follow the DPS FOTM. Also the builds are very limited in BiS skills. And yeah you could argue you dont need to be a DK to tank, sure you dont need to, but be ready to be denied groups and guild raids if you try to tank with anything that is not a DK at endgame vet raids. This is very unfortunate as the Elder Scrolls universe is incredible as are this game quests, world, housing and characters. By the way, the combat is so bad because of weaving which is actually considered a game feature by the devs. And fans of it will defend that weaving is a skilled things that is good for the game. I currently play this as a tank, was high level CP before the latest update and I say this all from experience. Play this if you love ES universe and you can just go with its combat. It is better than FFXIV, which is the most likely alternative most people probably consider, this is an opinion, feel free to disagree if you like FFXIV more.
What annoys me is that pc has addons so they can reveal all the lore books and skyshards on the map . As for us console peasants we have to look for them everytime we create a new character, and no im not wasting money on crowns just to keep buying skyshards from the crown store. PS. Mages guild skill only levels through finding the books.
If you have android download ESO helper, it has all the marked locations for everything you could possibly want to look for and you can highlight them when found/separate by character
@@Scorpio_1974 I meant server issues. Disconnects, UI errors, game freezing. Cyro and trials can be extremely laggy to the point that its unplayable. Thats a nice rig you got though. Mine is similar.
Being able to travel anywhere and just get into the local storyline is nice. Grouping up with people regardless of level is similarly cool. Crafting, housing and its decoration system (with programmable routes for your pets, mounts, npc visitors, etc.), various addon minigames such as scrying... I don't think I've actually done a mission in that game in about a year now? Yet I keep coming back playing... Some of that stuff is actually innovative, which is rare in MMOs. The combat isn't actually bad, if compared to all existing MMOs today. Sure there's bound to be a game or two with better combat according to most slices of the game community (different one or two games for different slices, mind you), but the vast majority of MMOs actually has it worse. That being said, it _does_ take getting used to and pretty much requires learning main attack weaving and some animation cancelling, with no in-game tutorials for either technique.
People in the comments are ignorant as hell. You see the guy talking about the quests being repetitive? Must of played another game because they didn’t change them. I’ve played since launch. They only bitch I had them was it was nearly impossible to make gold. You could run a veteran dungeon and not have enough gold afterwards to repair your gear. But now it’s pretty easy. Anyways, pick up this game. I’ve got 3000 hours in it. Almost done with all base game zones and achievements. Then I’m gonna work on DLC.
I've put 3000+ hours into ESO, and it's a hell of a ride. But Zenimax's quality has seriously dipped. I've just started playing Guild Wars 2, and I gotta say, it's so much fun. A better and more engaging mount system, without having to wait 180 days just to max it out. You can have those mount upgrades on each of your characters without having to do anything. A fair "crown store" without in game currency -> gem exchange. Free "craft bag" with 250 slots for each crafting item. A massive, less "run around" trading system. I love the elder scrolls universe I truly do. But with all the server issues, bugs and overall newer content being a rinse and repeat is just boring to be honest. Also if you get end game, its difficult to carry on playing the game without ESO+ meaning you kind of have to pay to want to progress and keep playing. I probably won't play ESO for a while, or at least until they fix a lot of the crappy performance. But the game is fairly easy to get into, the main qeust is dull, but the main chapter main quests are great for the most part *cough* greymoor *cough*
Almost same story for me. I put 5k+ hours into ESO then left about a year ago when I got exhausted by the constant bugs and the constant, seemingly irrational changes to skills and mechanics. I tried a few other MMOs but ended up falling in love with GW2. ESO is a very good MMO, especially for casual players or people new to MMO.
@@ianturton4976 Oh 100% base game. But then when I'm made to pay £40-50 for chapter releases (I want to be with the hype I'm not waiting a year to get it on ESO+).
@@ianturton4976 ESO has its problems (like any game really) but I did enjoy my time with it and I recommend it to anyone looking for a solid MMO. It's particularly good for those new to MMOs because the UI is well designed and most of its systems are fairly vanilla and so easy to understand.
Never really played an MMORPG before and was interested in New World but I think I might start with this one. It's on sale right now and of course is more polished. Plus I like the idea of going it alone. Thanks for the info.
You're both telling this man he's wrong, and you're both wrong. The game is the story. The story is boring. If he says nothing kept him playing, then nothing kept him. You can't tell him he's wrong since he's literally giving you a fact about his own experience. Fanboys, I swear

I couldn't agree more. It's a fantastic game. I've the singleplayer games of the series and I'm still pretty new to ESO, but with every bit that I learn about this game it gets even better. I'm seriously impressed by this amount of quality here especially compared to the rest of the industry nowadays - not even only in the mmo genre.
This mmo has all of its NPCs 100% fully voiced. And those NPCs very often have unique and witty lines that tie in with the lore of the entire Elder Scrolls franchise. I don't think I've ever seen another mmo that has this.
They go full out on voices and writing, 90% of the time all of the npcs in side quest, even those who don't actively engage will have unique dialog. After finishing a quest you can talk to almost everyone involved or watch a small story scene happen. And NPC in town discuss quest you haven't found yet or already completed. Game is dedicated to setting and atmosphere, it's so nice.
Coming back to this video because I think it deserves being said, just got the blackwood version for 16 pounds on a steam sale, so far have been enjoying the game quite a lot, might even get down with the other dlc if I manage to finish all the ones that come with the version I got
One HUGE draw to ESO that I don't recall you mentioning is that any player can adventure with any player at any level. That is by far the biggest reason my friends and I still play. Everything scales to your level and you don't have to wait to level with friends or family that can't play as much. Or, as in my case, I'm the one that can't play nearly as much as my friends.
do you need ps plus?
Ha, wasn't always like this. In fact the change to scaling made the game much harder!
@@Orinslayer As a new player, i can't seem to find any mobs that can like, even put you in danger.
When you see a wizard in a plate armor and a big ass axe, you know the term battle-mage here is on next level.
Its so next level, its not even named battle mage :D
They call it a war mage :3
That is exactly the build I wanted to do when started playing and it did not disappoint me at all
A shame the build sucks incredibly though.

Comment sniping again, to say that it's much better on PC. The consoles don't have modding. And the communities are smaller.

I'll definitely be playing this for years to come
So just like any other MMO?

3:36 It should be noted that there is a pack in the in game store that allows for any race any faction. So they aren't fully locked. And the Warden is also a premium class.
I agree.. I feel like some people making videos don’t actually know the game 😂
This is my all time favorite mmo even more than Wow. I’ve tried guild wars ragnarok ff14 and a few others and eso is by far my favorite
More then wow ????🤦🏽♂️
@Patridge yea the biggest reason wow is still a titan is only because most folks who spend money on the MMOs are people in the 30s or greater and when WoW first came out they had money and time to try out the first big MMO, which is now a 'nostalgia' factor for them.
Just like how doom and tetris have a 'nostalgia' feel so attract millions of players.
Not sure about game itself, it might be great, yeah, but unfortunately combat looks like shit :(
The combat is probably one of the best parts of the game
@Flare I tried FF 14 and quit because it was to boring, repetitive and overloaded with systems.... To each his own I guess.
the DLC is pretty fantastic in this game, at first I was sad to see John Cleeses'es Cadwell was only at the beginning segment of the game but in additional DLC they bring his character back for a much larger roll.
To be fair, this is a common issue with like ever MMORPG
Perhaps that's because this game is an MMO and not an offline RPG?
@@renanleandro5914 Guild Wars 2 and other games have instanced dungeons, housing etc. Online/offline does not affect random loot generation.
Who plays an online game and expects perfect immersion? 😂
What's great is that stealing and assassinating carriers on in other parts of the game.
thats why I dropped Destiny 2, horizontal progression is definitely the way to go
There is definitely a degree of verticle progression once you get to end game due to power creep with new sets being released.

I've tried to get into ESO three separate times. The second time I ended up playing for around a month. I just started again last week but for whatever reason I'm really enjoying it much more than I did the other two times. I might stick around for good this time.
Glad to hear it dude. If you're on the EU server feel free to add me, drop me a message on the discord chat, links in the desc :)
I started playing ESO back during the PC beta and have been playing since. Its such a fun game and though there's a lot of toxic players in it I've met some of the chillest most friendly players I've ever known in multiplayer video games in ESO.
A funny story I experienced back in 2014 when I played during the beta and at release:
I had no idea that each faction had only 3 different races playable. I could choose my race, my faction and then start my adventure.
Where in reality it was part of the preorder bonus. You also got a pretty cheap mount, back then your first horse was so expensive, rarely anyone had one.
And you also had raisins the monkey like I did on my OG account.
I preordered the deluxe edition and was in the beta back in the day. The horses were SO expensive!
Soon as work is not busy, I cannot wait to jump back in for a few days. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
I started with Daggerfall and it's insanely large patch. Really considering getting into this.
With you 100% on the whole 'Chosen one' thing. At least City of Villains 'Chosen Ones" was an entire program run by the villains to weed out competition.

I always keep coming back to this game somehow
I pay for it but haven't played in a few months. I will be back soon.

Thanks
ESO has been my personal MMO of choice since 2017 and I still play on a regular basis. Highly recommend to anyone still on the fence
Amazing game, 400 hours and I still feel like I'm scratching the surface.

Amazingly detailed and very informative video, thank you a ton! Cheers!

So, a few notes:
While you don't actually need it, ESO+ is a must if you plan to play it for long. It basically includes everything but the latest expansions (it just released a week ago, that is 1sr of june, and it's Blackwood) which is brutal.
The game allow you to join 5 guilds at the same time per account. Once you join a guild, you join as an account, not as a character. Guilds can be PvE, PvP or trade guilds
Trade guilds have several vendors scattered in the world, as this game HAS NOT a auction house.
XD

Owned the game for years, just started this week and i already bought eso+ really enjoy it
Word. Long time owner, first time I'm really diving in. Games been great so far. Have fun 🤙
@@ezmrcz nice! And thanks!
Smart!
Started playing because of this video. Thank you for the recommendation!
I still felt the same feeling of Skyrim while playing TESO.
Use pics and guides. Back before there was a add on pc. Players had to look for lore books. It is not hard.
If you have android download ESO helper, it has all the marked locations for everything you could possibly want to look for and you can highlight them when found/separate by character
ESO is my dad's main MMO and has been for a couple of years now. Some day when I'm done with thr CRPGs I'm running through, I'll join him :)
Despite its performance issues, its still the best mmo on the market imo. I love how all content is viable. There's always something to do.
Hmmmmm....I had no Performance issues this is what I have.

@@Scorpio_1974 I meant server issues. Disconnects, UI errors, game freezing. Cyro and trials can be extremely laggy to the point that its unplayable.
Thats a nice rig you got though. Mine is similar.
Ff14 tho
@@Exel3nce Is fun but has a weak endgame imo.
@@EvolutionIX219 hard content of bosses and raids?
Thanks for this!! Really helpful :)
ESO is a very good MMO, especially for casual players or people new to MMO.
same GW 2 is the amazing !
For the money you paid and for the amount of time it entertained you, you most certainly got your money's worth!
Although I played through all of it I never felt settled into the game, nothing ever made me want to stay
You litterly cant play through the game it starts at level 50 160 cp
If you played through all of it then you have like a thousand hours. I'd say you already stayed long enough.
You're both telling this man he's wrong, and you're both wrong. The game is the story. The story is boring. If he says nothing kept him playing, then nothing kept him. You can't tell him he's wrong since he's literally giving you a fact about his own experience.
Fanboys, I swear
@@chrismanuel9768 but you are wrong the game got a story ye but the story is not even like 10% of the game if you belive that you dont know anything about the game.
