  • Drivers who impede the flow of traffic create unsafe conditions, especially those who camp out in the left lane, which is both frustrating and dangerous for those affected.
Trooper Cynthia Wilt of the Milan Highway Patrol says you can do your part to make the road safer by leaving the left lane free open except while passing.
"Please camp in Ohio's State Parks--not in the left lane on the Ohio Turnpike--or other roads for that matter," said Lt. Rick Reeder, Milan Post Commander. A violation of the slow speed law/blocking reasonable movement of traffic can result in a citation with a penalty as much as $150.

Ohio drivers must not know this is a thing. They love driving slow in the left lane.

@@s.m.8157 the law has been in effect for over a decade. It was never going to be changed, just people didn't understand it. Thats why they make these announcements. To educate the ignorant. Move over for faster traffic and pass only left lanes are how the highway was constructed. This isn't a new concept.

@@drunkwaxera4945 ohio's law applies to vehicles traveling "less than the prevailing and lawful speed of traffic". The lawful speed of traffic is the speed limit. It applies to vehicles going less than the posted speed limit. Don't take my word for it. MIT gives a state by state breakdown of keep right laws you can look that up. You can also look up the recent attempts by ohio legislature to change it. The law did not pass.

@@s.m.8157 it is "normal speed of traffic" which is not the speed limit. It is the speed most people are going. Learn the nomenclature.

Going 80 in a 70mph zone is not lawful. Do some research on this. You're incorrect in your interpretation. As I said, ohio tried to change this, but it did not pass.

When going with the flow on congested highways and along comes speedy Gonzales doing 95 and threading needles I'll opt for pacing a truck doing the speed limit. Stop the tailgaters and people who cut you off and I may change my style.

@@drunkwaxera4945 because this isn't the law in ohio. In ohio, it is only a violation to go below the speed limit in the left lane. You can set your cruise at the limit and legally drive across the state in the left lane without passing anyone and not be breaking ohio law.

You can verify this, ohio's keep right law ONLY applies if you're going under the speed limit. The state legislature tried to pass a slow poke law a few years back, the news articles are readily searchable. That law did not pass.

@@s.m.8157 "right hand lane when available" proves the point. No you cannot camp in the left. You are to let a vehicle wishing to overtake do so. You are also neglecting common courtesy and societal expectations of a well adjusted human being as well by staying in the left lane. It is dangerous for passing on the right due to blind spots. And a tid bit of reflection, laws are not right or wrong, they are just law. Its why they change.
