Yvette Nicole Brown’s family did have a health situation, and she wanted to pull back from the heavy work schedule of single cam work. She did the Odd Couple show with Matthew Perry when this was being filmed. Hickey of course went to go do Better Call Saul.
Community is funnier than The Good Place. Whereas The Good Place probably makes you think and feel more. Both are far more ambitious than most sitcoms.
To some extent, I think this is the best season. And not because Troy, Shirley and even Hickey are gone, but in spite of their absences. Frankie and Elroy are just stunningly awesome additions. And this is Britta’s best season. She gets some awesome stuff to do on a regular basis finally.
The guy from The Butcher and the Baker was in "Wings," sitcom from the '90s (I remember it reasonably well.) The back-door bar was reminiscent of speakeasies, where people drank in the USA when alcohol was illegal. The raid, with the old-style cops, were reminiscent of raids on illegal bars or other situations, such as alcohol distribution.
Also, Frankie is played by the same person as the IT lady but they're aren't the same character. They make a little silly nod to this a bit later in the season.
And it is a fun reference, almost an Easter egg. They liked her in the small part, so gave her a larger role. Similarly, they liked Keith David after he did voiceovers for Pillows and Blankets, so gave him a larger role too.
Britta actually has a really sad story involving a man in a dinosaur costume that sheds a bit more light on why she doesn't speak to her parents as they didn't believe her when she told them about it
@@RamblersInc Its never explicitly stated in the show but theres clues in sevweral episodes. It would have been just a fan theory but Dan Harmon the creator of the show confirmed it in an AMA on reddit
I believe you two would enjoy Parks and Rec and/or Schitt's Creek at least as much as this if not more! The guy you saw at end of first episode was on the hit show Wings in the 90s.
@@RamblersInc you don't have to, obviously-but there's a standalone Wiki entry just for that, under the name "Tears in rain monologue"...you could skim that in a few mins. & get a decent sense of it. That would be faster/easier than watching the film (though it's a worthwhile movie to do-when you have the time & inclination).
There are about 5 rather important holes in our head, (more if you want to get technical; tear ducts and the like); earholes, nostrils and the MOUTH, (i.e., the huge hole in her/Frankie's head the dean mentioned)
If you haven't seen Lawnmower Man, it's no big deal, it isn't very good. The references to it are a little like the references to VCR Board games - rubbish from the 90s that we were told were the way of the future, and even at the time people knew they weren't.
Love that regularly scheduled new season! Tbh I don’t know if 6 is my favourite season BUT it’s definitely the most unique and I love it for that lol. The second episode is one of the best in my opinion, I regularly quote the Dean’s stupid Jesus Wept line (that in itself a misquote of Alexander wept) and I often show my friends who haven’t watched Community the Portuguese gremlins end bit cause it’s just so funny lol (plus it’s the episode Keith David shows up in!). On a more serious and sad note, it’s not only strongly implied in the show but also confirmed by the creator (I believe) that in addition to what Britta verbally mentioned she was also sexually assaulted by a man in a dinosaur costume as a child and her parents didn’t believed her which is probably the deepest buried trauma she is carrying to do with her parents and why she hates them.
Oh damn. That's really messed up. I wonder why we didn't get an episode on it. It would explain a lot about Britta and why she left and her problem with authority.
@@RamblersIncyeaaaah… I guess it was considered too dark for a sitcom to focus a whole episode on but it has been briefly mentioned in a few past episodes such as when she was seeing Duncan as her therapist or when “evil” Abed had his chat with her in the dreamatprium
Okay, three things: 1. Knockoff Portuguese Gremlins should be a thing. 2. Around last week, I received an autographed print of one of the characters Keith David has played. 3. What happened to the kid's Green Machine?
One criticism I have of both this and last season is that they never seemed to know what to do with Chang after he wasn't evil. Their choices for his plotlines are pretty weak.
Haven't seen Lawnmower Man either but Keith David going YOU BETCHA SWEET ASS I SAW LAWNMOWER MAN was funny. Don't stress over not having seen things that are referenced - whenever there's a pop culture reference in this show it's never meant to exclude those who aren't familiar with the work, rather it's simply a way for Dan Harmon and the writers to express certain ideas and tell stories and jokes. The reference itself is never the point of its inclusion. (Unlike certain shows I recall putting laugh tracks against the mere mention of some other popular movie or tv show as if it scored them points, but i digress.) Most people haven't seen My Dinner with Andre; the choice to reference such a little known indie film was deliberate and worked beautifully for the story (plus brought attention to an underrated gem of a film). Also this joke: Abed: My concern is Alan is to Jeff what Rob Lowe is to James Spader in 1990's Bad Influence. Shirley: He's a bad influence. Abed: You saw it?
@20:20 Chomsky is a nod to American intellectual/philosopher Noam Chomsky, who is well-regarded by some on the liberal/left-wing side of culture & politics. I'm not doing justice to the complexity & range of who he is or the range of opinions about him, bc that's not necessary here in a YT comment. Just noting it briefly so you might understand why Britta (whose identity is all about championing social justice causes & questioning the status quo) would name a cat Chomsky.
Not good. Only for teenage scifi junkies. It was officially and legally based on a Stephen King story but they strayed so far from the original concept, heavily relying on what little was known of virtual reality in 1992, that Stephen King sued to get his name off it for misrepresenting his work. Worth watching maybe if you are a student of special effects, but otherwise, most people’s reactions is “wtf was that movie?”. It kind of ruined the main actor’s career.
Jimmy Fallon syndrome I would guess is making fun of how bad he generally was on SNL and how successful and generally acceptable he's been as a late night host.
Harmon strikes again. Making movie references you don't get or miss😡😆 When Leonard's frisbee disintegrates and he says "like tears in rain" That is lifted from a famous speech at the end of BLADE RUNNER, a futuristic sci fi film from 1982, that leaves you asking questions about the nature of what it is that defines human? Blade Runner is a good movie and should be on your list of must see. It gets high marks on review sites, like IMDB. LAWNMOWER MAN on the other hand is pretty cheesy. NOT a must see.
