The toaster thing with steaks can be done safely if you use toaster bags. It stops the drippings and is especially good for fish.

When I moved into my first apartment I had no oven so I I had to cook with a sandwich press. Steak, sausage, fish sticks, burger patties, bacon, pancakes even omelets are all surprisingly easy and tasty. You can even use a sandwich press as a hotplate for cooking soup and pasta by putting a pot on the bottom plate, it can take a while but it works.
Please do not blame me if you burn down your house trying this method of cooking. Never leave the area while doing this and have a fire blanket or extinguisher at hand in case you need it.

In the Azores in a town called Furnas we use geo thermal energy from a volcano to cook a pretty traditional soup made up of different types of meats, sausages and veggies. You put all your ingredients in a pot, lower it into a hole in the ground, and cover it. Come back a couple of hours later and you have some yummy food !

I have done something unusual with Ramen noodles when I worked at a convenience store. There wasn't a microwave available to cook the noodles, but there were large styrofoam cups (meant for fountain sodas) and a coffee maker that had water piped into it with a hot water tap. I would open the Ramen noodles (the kind without it's own cup) and put it into the large cup. I would then fill the cup with the extremely hot water and then put a lid on the cup. I would let it sit on the counter next to me while I served the customers that would come in for about 15 minutes. Afterward the noodles seemed to be cooked, I would mix in the seasoning packet and enjoy. This was over 10 years ago, though.

I love making flower pot bread to give as gifts etc. Whether it's a quick bread, or a yeast bread it's a great surprise. Our ancestors bake bread this way before metal came along. After it thoroughly cools, cover with plastic wrap, a ribbon, & a tag.

    • @zeusathena26
      @zeusathena26 2 роки тому +3

@@nicolewilliams6368 yes I know. Flower pots make a cute gift, & they're a lot cheaper! Then they can use the pot to either make more bread, or plant flowers herbs, use it to organize things in your kitchen (putting spoons, spatulas, etc in it). The ones made for baking bread, tend to cost much more than a plain flower pot. You can also paint flower pots too!

I've actually cooked an egg on pavement in Phoenix before so it wouldn't surprise me if you could on the sidewalk. It is a true fact that people who are new to Arizona have been be hospitalized for 3rd degree burns on their feet because they walked outside barefoot. The best roasted game bird I ever tasted was done in an old abandoned antheap. It was hollow inside, and two vents were made, one to place the bird in and the other to allow the smoke to escape. A fire was lit inside the antheap, and the soil that had been removed to make the vents was made into clay. The bird - a guineafoul - still had its feathers on, and the clay was packed around them, after which the bird was lowered into the vent, with a wire attached in order to allow it to be remove when ready. This was left for four hours, after which the fowl was removed. The clay had baked hard, and once cracked open, removed the feathers as well. Game birds are known to be stringy and tough if roasted in the more conventional way, but this had been roasted in its own juice. The result was delicious and succulent!!

I could cook on my car every summer. I live in rural South Central Australia.
PS I'm in Australia and it gets just as hot here as it does in Arizona. Reached 49 degrees Celsius (120f) in the shade where I live not long ago. Some parts of Australia and Arizona have very similar temperatures and environments.

I once reheated some corn on the cob in foil on a metal drain cover in Austin when it hit like 45C. It certainly made it hot enough to enjoy after about 15 minutes, but it definitely wouldn't have been anywhere near hot enough to cook it from raw. This was just a reheat.

Concrete can definitely get hot enough to cook an egg. My Boy Scout troop leader in Arizona was a fireman. He told us during the summer, it was not unheard of for people to pass out on a sidewalk from heat stroke and end up getting 3rd degree burns, which means the sidewalk was hot enough to burn skin AND flesh, let alone an egg. We also used a box with the inside fully lined with foil during a Boy Scout cooking jamboree. We placed a Dutch oven with a cobbler in it, kept it directed toward the sun, and we got a super tasty cobbler after some hours 😸 117 degrees is the ambient temperature, not necessarily the temperature of any given surface within that environment

Dipping a hot pan in batter is actually a common way of cooking crepes, etc in high end restaurants, some even have special shaped molds they heat and dip in the batter which cooks onto the mold and takes its shape.

I've seen professional chefs use the underside of a pan to make crepes. The idea is that they are incredibly thin and even because only the thinnest layer of batter sticks to the hot pan and then when lifted the excess drips off. You have to do it quickly, dip and flip, and it actually takes a bit of time to master, but using the right pan you get perfectly round, thin, even crepes that are all the same. I believe it is usually for crepes that will be filled because having them not brown allows easier rolling or folding.

~ George Foreman grill does steaks just as good as the toaster and has way less cleanup.
~ The pancake thing with the skillet IS actually just making crepes, it's a "poor man's crepe maker".
~ A hair dryer would take FOREVER just to make a s'more! I would use a heat gun instead, WAY quicker! I use mine to make nachos, it melts the cheese more evenly than the microwave. I actually have a lot of tools in my kitchen. I use my drill instead of a hand mixer
(cause I no longer own one) and I prefer to use a saw on spaghetti squash instead of a knife (the knife scares me because it is so much harder to keep from slipping).
~ Have you ever cut up a cantaloupe then sprinkled it with salt AND pepper? It tastes SO good! Something about the salt drawing the juice into pockets in the fruit and the pepper complimenting the sweetness, whatever the reason, it's delicious!

In a hotelroom or dorm or just any place where you have a socket but no stove, you can boil eggs in a water cooker/kettle.
I live in a place with a shared kitchen which is two floors down. When I fancy some boiled eggs I fill the water cooker with cold water, put the eggs in (make sure there's enough water to cover the eggs completely) and switch the water cooker on. When the water has boiled I leave the eggs in the hot water for a while.
Perfectly boiled eggs every single time!

A few notes: summer highs in Arizona can be as high as 137 degrees fahrenheit ambient air temperature (that's to say IN THE SHADE). The actual temperature in direct sunlight generally exceeds 30 degrees higher than air temperature. Needless to say, that's hot enough to cook poultry to full cooking temperature.
Seconds interesting fact: the state of Arizona lies about average high temperatures on weather forecasts and reports. They will say there will be a high temperature of, say, 118 degrees with a heat wave advisory. You can then drive around town and see the thermometers are all reading 130+. With a tourist driven economy, they don't want to discourage people from visiting. This is all especially true for towns along the Colorado River such as Lake Havasu City and Yuma.

3:12 I can debunk the skepticism immediately:
Besides that it looks more just moist than scorched, the marks are in the exact random shape the egg took on AFTER being cracked onto the sidewalk. You're suggesting he heated up that random shape on the concrete before the egg cracked onto the sidewalk and perfectly spilled into the shape he heated. Why wouldn't he have scorched just a wide round area to heat it up?
