Thanks for making this video, Driveclub was a game genre brought to perfection. It makes me genuinely sad that we will probably never see a game like that again. Driveclub is timeless.
Dude, this game was way ahead of its time. Something that is massively underrated from it it is its sound. From sound design to soundtrack, this game always tickled my ear drums like no other racing game had. It's also the only one able to capture the sense of speed that notably absent from Forza.
We need a second PlayStation's fallen masterpiece for the motorstorm franchise, it never gets the love it deserves but apocalypse is one of the best arcade racers I've ever played
My friend and I played this so much, It's the game with the best car sounds, the most realistic cars, and the greatest feeling of speed and force. and not to mention the graphics and weather.
Both Whitelight and Ahoy uploaded on the same day I must be in a dream Edit: AND Titanfall 2 has gone temporarily free to play as well wtf is happening
To this day I have never had a better virtual driving experience than in Driveclub. In 15 years of playing racing games I've never been more excited to just jump into a time trail with a hypercar, do a drift trial in a hot hatch or simply turn my headphone volume all the way up and rev a Ferarri in the rain. This video perfectly encapsulated the highs and the lows of an astonishing video game that never reached its full potential. Thanks for an amazing video 🙌🏻. I'm gonna go play Driveclub now👋🏻
Driveclub reminds me the first time i saw Race Driver GRID on PC. It blew my mind and it was one of the few games that made me lose my mind over the possibilities of next-gen racing games. And, like Race Driver GRID, years later Driveclub holds up surprisingly well imo. Easy to pick up and but a bit of a learning curve to master.
My father offered this game to me for my birthday, not long after it came out. I was not excited. Then I played it. It was soon the only game I played in my free time. I remember the sheer shock I experienced when they added rain and I drove in it for the first time. Then came the expansions, with new cars, tracks and bikes. I can't tell you the amount of time I spent on Nakasendo or Putre. I joined a club, participated in PVP races (which my friends and I dominated), got world record lap times... This game shaped my mid to late teens. Heck, my profile pic? it's me drifting in a LaFerrari in on Putre in Driveclub. A few weeks ago, my PS4's hard drive died. Lost everything. But the memories are something I will never forget and never lose. I loved this game more than I ever loved any other. Thank you for this video, man.
You are so lucky in life that the DriveClub was a gift for you. I couldn't actually be allowed to purchase a PS4 and the game itself. Demn, I didn't even know she existed back then... Now I dream about this game and just for the sake of DriveClub, I'm going to buy a PS4 Pro and a CD with the game soon, and then after a while find a person who will help me share the experience and impressions of the game thanks to all the DLC of this game. I fell in love with this game at first sight, and now I don't need any other game - just DriveClub.
Early PS4 days were mindblowing. Killzone SF, DriveClub, Uncharted 4, Order 1866... all games still hold up so well, that if they just got a 4K update and 60fps update, they'd look better than any of their modern competitors.
This is still to this day , my favourite racing game of all time. I played them all, from need for speed to forza horizon and so on. This one right here holds such a special place in my heart, it's hard to describe, this game is just perfect. Such a shame the studio was cancelled by sony. They definitely shot themselves in the foot. This could've been a next franchise right next to the boring gran turismo.
The way you blend stunning visuals with perfectly placed good music, its drops accentuating the important points, is just brilliant. I have never really played a racing game, nor even owned a console, but this video made me care for Drive Club's hyperrealism and Sony's failings. Your videos are not only good recaps of what happend, but works of audiovisual art
man, I have rewatched this video so many times, always a pasisonate blast. Would love to see some similar game in 20204 or later, clean hyperrealism combined with stunning scenery and a banger soundtrack
This game looks overwhelmingly beautiful and your writing absolutely does it justice. I wish I could play it. It's a tragedy that it could never get a deserving sequel to refine it, an even bigger tragedy that Sony kept this away from tens of millions of players that never got a playstation.
This video sold me on the game, and I keep coming back to this video and the game. Both are fantastic pieces of art and passion for something their creators love.
I went on vacation once to Dominican Republic for two weeks, brought my nephew a new PS4 with a couple of games including this one; proceeded to spend my entire vacation racing in this game while my nephew was in school. Best Vacation ever.
Hey man I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I gotta thank you. I never play racing games, just not my thing, but I happened across this video and it convinced me to find and order a hard copy online and give it a go. Fast forward a few months and I've got almost everything unlocked (that isn't de-listed DLC) and the game's soundtrack has been stuck on a loop in my car's spotify list. What I'm trying to say is: thank you.
100% true, every word, I remember going onto photo mode on this fantastic game, I zoomed into the rear light, and could literally see the bulb inside, incredible, and still is to this day. Brilliant narration, too, thank you.
Graphics are still insane. The sense of speed. The roaring engine sounds. The not super realistic, yet not easy driving physics. These are the reasons why I such love driveclub
Firstly watching this video for the actual review. Now I cameback for the art of your creation. Man you surely underrated on this. The words that i hear is so beautifully spoken. Packed with Great editing and audio managing. You can just leave this video here so one day people can treasure this video.
Your presentation of simcades and enhanced-reality driving is exactly what I've been telling sim snobs and arcade drift kiddos for years. Its the perfect combination of realistic challenge and power fantasy. Every racer I play these days is a simcade, I just don't bother with anything else anymore. Drifty arcades feel like baby toys and sims feel like chores
so what you're saying is "everyone who disagrees with me is dumb, i'm the only smart one". yeah those "drift kiddos" are looking pretty mature to me right now
I enjoy playing both simcades and fully fledged hardcore sims, but I honestly I can't stand that tap-to-drift playstyle that NFS keeps going for anymore. It was fun in Burnout 3 Takedown all the way to NFS:HP 2010, but these games were challenging in their own ways. In modern NFS it just makes the game extremely easy and boring
@@GraveUypo Dude, sim snobs are the pure definition of "everyone who disagrees with me is dumb, I'm the only smart one". "The tire model of Assetto Corsa is so unrealistic, everything that isn't iRacing is unplayable!" is something I've seen way too many times. Arsenjie explaining why he likes certain games isn't pretentious at all.
I seemed to be one of the lucky ones to have played the game in its entirety before the closure. I got it for $20 on disc, spent a month playing through its content, learning the physics, grinding the levels system. I got the season pass for the same amount I bought the game for, and spent an equal amount of time experiencing all the post launch locations, cars, the weather. It never went stale in the ~20 dlc packages. I earned all the stars, lost myself in the photo mode and got really good at drifting with hardcore handling. And then I heard it was closing down. I bought the remaining packs I didn't have, the bikes expansion, no limits and the vr experience. All the same level of care and detail, all the same level of fun. The passion was evident, it never left the studio. To this day, I will always look back on Driveclub with fond memories, as well as Evolution as a company being one I grew up with through WRC. And it's a game that I will always stop and smell the roses with, and maybe watch the lighning show.
100% agree with everything in this vid. This game was a labour of love and passion. It wasn't perfect by any means but there is a soul to it that other racing games don't quite have. I think the fact the studio was defunct shortly after leads to it's legendary status. It's the one game I still install to listen to the roar of those engines and watch that rainwater drip down my screen. Those grumbling basslines. Truly a masterpiece that was never recognised fully or had its potential fully realised too.
Still the best sounding game regarding to engine noise, inside and outside of car, tunnel or hills, just incredible sounds that sounds just like real life.
@@GraveUypo the tunnel effect was caused by the devs recording the real life car sounds in the garage with the actual cars from the game so other than the tunnel effect it's the most realistic sounding cars i've seen in a video game literally it sounds just like the real life counterpart
It's wasn't just the murder of a great game but also of a great arcade racing game studio - Evolution Studios. And apart from Forza Horizon, arcade racing games are having a bit of a crisis right now.
That's because they're being marketed to the wrong people. Publishers think the only people who buy arcades are 12 year old casuals who just want to drift like its another asphalt mobile game. We need more mature, believable arcades
@@ileutur6863 tell that to the average consumer. I remember getting a PS4 and driveclub came with it and I justice spent over 5 hrs just using the photo mode cos of how damn gorgeous this game was
I didn't even touch it. Still have it brand new in its plastic.
@@theblackswordsman9951 the servers are down now but still worth playing just to witness how gorgeous it is
And also cos it's a great racer in its own right
I’m actually gonna download this again lol just to relive these sounds and sights , I love this game soo much!
The craziest part is that this game came out back in 2014 and still beats any game in 2024 in graphics
What a gem of a game, very sad about its fate.
Rusky already said something is in the works for another Driveclub (of course it's not going to be called Driveclub)
Should I still get this game in 2022?
@@KM-lc6hj this game is timeless, can get it whenever you want. I love playing it time to time. Nostalgia kicks so hard. However i can feel little bored sometimes, due to how much i have already played it. It's still so good.
Even in 2023, DriveClub's visuals are still UNMATCHED. To this day I measure every racing game rain physics to DC. The only title to even attempt tp match DC's rain physics was Project Cars 2. DC was just simply put... Pure Graphical Eye Porn!
Thanks for making this video, Driveclub was a game genre brought to perfection. It makes me genuinely sad that we will probably never see a game like that again. Driveclub is timeless.
RIP Evolution Studios.
MotorStorm and Driveclub live on forever in our hearts.
Dude, this game was way ahead of its time. Something that is massively underrated from it it is its sound. From sound design to soundtrack, this game always tickled my ear drums like no other racing game had. It's also the only one able to capture the sense of speed that notably absent from Forza.
Whitelight, Ahoy, and Ross Scott uploads on the same day? Today has been so good that it’s made me scared of tomorrow.
Whitelights voice is like the sirens song, who among us can resist it?
We need a second PlayStation's fallen masterpiece for the motorstorm franchise, it never gets the love it deserves but apocalypse is one of the best arcade racers I've ever played
Never played Motorstorm before except that one time inside a shop with the floor Ps3.
It was fantastic.
My friend and I played this so much, It's the game with the best car sounds, the most realistic cars, and the greatest feeling of speed and force. and not to mention the graphics and weather.
Both Whitelight and Ahoy uploaded on the same day I must be in a dream
Edit: AND Titanfall 2 has gone temporarily free to play as well wtf is happening
Wait what!?
Its 3 in the morning here so I must be in a dream! 🤯
And UberDamger
Yo man I couldn't believe it either but it did happen
Is it F2P on console or just steam? The console playerbase needs more love it’s dying badly
I'm gonna go play Driveclub now👋🏻
A Driveclub video? This one is gonna hit close
I've never heard anyone talking about racing games in nearly poetic way; hell, I didn't know it was even possible! Great job on that material!
This video is a great advertisement lol. Very well done. After 5 minutes I went on eBay and spent the $10 on the game.
I fell in love with this game at first sight, and now I don't need any other game - just DriveClub.
whitelights voice is so sensual i actually watched the credits
Early PS4 days were mindblowing. Killzone SF, DriveClub, Uncharted 4, Order 1866... all games still hold up so well, that if they just got a 4K update and 60fps update, they'd look better than any of their modern competitors.
This game with the order got an unofficial 60FPS patch but you need to hack your PS5
I want what you're smoking to think killzone and order were mind blowing
Dude you make the greatest essay style videos on UA-cam keep them coming.
You're a national treasure to gaming, I love you for what you do, no one does it like you, no one.
This video just made me want to play driveclub game again
man, I have rewatched this video so many times, always a pasisonate blast. Would love to see some similar game in 20204 or later, clean hyperrealism combined with stunning scenery and a banger soundtrack
Whitelight consistently has better scripts than most movies. I have no idea how he does it time and time again.
This game looks overwhelmingly beautiful and your writing absolutely does it justice.
I wish I could play it. It's a tragedy that it could never get a deserving sequel to refine it, an even bigger tragedy that Sony kept this away from tens of millions of players that never got a playstation.
*Gets alert*
"Honey the tv, now."
"Why?"
"Whitelight has released a new video."
*"It's time"*
YES I feel that too
Wake the fuck up honey,we got a video to watch
Probably your best video ever! Yojr other videos in my opinion were either too harsh or just alright but this is a masterpiece!
Love drive club I download every other month just to sit in the rain I guess it's my version of asmr.
man i literally just got goosebumps watching this video. Driveclub was pure videogame porn. The visuals are still breathtaking to this day.
That James May bit is the best thing you've ever done!
This really is one off the greatest racing games of the last decade imo.
Whitelight: UA-cam's Underrated Masterpiece
The way the vocabulary flows off his tongue is nothing short of amazing
Me : Boss can i leave early today ?
Boss : Why
Me : Whitelight just uploaded a video ...
Boss : TAKE MY CAR !
This video sold me on the game, and I keep coming back to this video and the game. Both are fantastic pieces of art and passion for something their creators love.
This game has a little something for everyone and it really makes you feel like driveclub , too many cars 8/10
IGN
I went on vacation once to Dominican Republic for two weeks, brought my nephew a new PS4 with a couple of games including this one; proceeded to spend my entire vacation racing in this game while my nephew was in school. Best Vacation ever.
The first rule of Driveclub is: you do not talk about Driveclub. The second rule of Driveclub is: you DO NOT talk about Driveclub!
I'm a simple man. I hear dulcet British tones from a blinding white light, and I like the video.
Now to actually watch the rest of the thing.
He has more dulcet British tones than James May…
100% true, every word, I remember going onto photo mode on this fantastic game, I zoomed into the rear light, and could literally see the bulb inside, incredible, and still is to this day. Brilliant narration, too, thank you.
The intro is a masterpiece.
Graphics are still insane. The sense of speed. The roaring engine sounds. The not super realistic, yet not easy driving physics. These are the reasons why I such love driveclub
"Wake up babe, New whitelight video"
« what do you mean you’ll be 30 min late to the wedding? »
Shit, beat me by 3 minutes.
*Nice*
Wish I had someone to wake me up
Firstly watching this video for the actual review.
@@GraveUypo yes, what are you gonna do about it
@@GraveUypo Dude, sim snobs are the pure definition of "everyone who disagrees with me is dumb, I'm the only smart one".
Me and my dad used to play this back when we first got a PS4. This brings back good memories. So thanks.
Man it really is a shame flipslipmedick wasn’t in the special thanks section this time around.
Thanks for this hommage. This kind of video is what UA-cam was made for.
When Shakespeare reviews a video game, you see the words, not the video. Beautiful V. O.
This man makes scripts better than any movie
That's because the movies are made by the enemies of mankind so the scripts are appropriate to their intentions. Whitelight has a natural talent.
My absolute FAVORITE drifting handling and physics in a game. I racked up so many hours in the drift trials in the Challenger and Camaro

Welcome to the shadow realm.

"A dominatrix penalty system TKO-ing my already puree'd balls into a fifth state of matter". Prose off the charts.
Still the best sounding game regarding to engine noise, inside and outside of car, tunnel or hills, just incredible sounds that sounds just like real life.
Facts!
I wouldn't know i don't own any of the cars lol
disagree. it sounds massively "enhanced". like your're in a tunnel all the time. i for one don't like it.
@@GraveUypo the tunnel effect was caused by the devs recording the real life car sounds in the garage with the actual cars from the game so other than the tunnel effect it's the most realistic sounding cars i've seen in a video game literally it sounds just like the real life counterpart
Dude, it's called sound propagation around place.
Can’t believe that this is almost 10 years old
9*
It's wasn't just the murder of a great game but also of a great arcade racing game studio - Evolution Studios.
And apart from Forza Horizon, arcade racing games are having a bit of a crisis right now.
That's because they're being marketed to the wrong people. Publishers think the only people who buy arcades are 12 year old casuals who just want to drift like its another asphalt mobile game. We need more mature, believable arcades
@@ileutur6863 tell that to the average consumer. Horizon 4 got blasted with hate cause it didn't take place in japan, modifying cars wasn't thar complex as underground for example and there were not enough roads to drift on??? I couldn't care less about huge piles of ugly plastic but their screams are so loud, the next horizon will probably be a total jdm hell...

Damn, I never knew just how much impressive tech there was in this game. That just proves your point if anything. I remember it’s awful launch fiasco but that’s it. It’s a shame, I would have loved for this to get a sequel that fixes the issues.
I'm sorry.. but the narration of this video is just too good, I need you to do my Eulogy 😂
