Now that its 2024, I love seeing in "real time" as you discover image transfer, etc with a gel plate and acryl. paint - love it!! Thank you Jane for having done this vid.
Isn’t it fun to see how Jane inspired so many people in Art of all styles over many years. She has always been an inspiration to me. I own CD’s she put out in the early 2000’s. Still love watching everything she does today. Her latest experiments in stripes are fabulous. There is a recent UA-cam where Jane is interviewed by Louise Fletcher, she talks about her new work.
I’m obsessed with these “thinking out of the box” forms of printmaking. If you add a layer of matte medium or translucent mixing white after letting the magazine print to dry, it will more fully pull the image.
Thank you Jane ! I really enjoy watching your processes - so interesting . The thing I really appreciate though , is your use of everyday objects and any sort of found papers . So refreshing , and more realistic for those of us who do not have an endless supply of so called "trendy"purchased stencils and masks , and a million different colours . It is also very reassuring to see the prints that do not work quite as expected . Kind regards - Judi - Australia
I’m sooo glad that you’re site was suggested to me! I love what you are doing with the gel plate especially since I’m now in possession of a large gel plate.👏🏻🎉
Jane- when you pulled the print w the silhouette images and I believe you said you weren't sure what to do with it- have you tried laying down a thick coat of white paint over that thin layer of dried paint then pulling it? Usually that thicker paint will pick up the image w the white being in the background. Hope this helps if you didn't already know this trick! Love your work as always:)
Yes. But to tell you the truth I am not that interested in transferring an image from a magazine and using it as an image. I may use parts of it as collage bits. It IS interesting to see how printed papers - book pages, magazine pages, and others, leave their mark on the plate, and therefore on subsequent prints.
I've bought a full range of Golden heavy body paints to find out that fluid acrylics work better with the Gel plate. :-/ ....by the way printing on paper is fun and addictive , thanks for the insights ! :-)
Hi Jane always fun to watch your videos. What kind of acrylic paint wirks the best with the gelli paint...I am using Amsterdam but didn't work out well?
I've found that the more translucent (not 'heavy bodied' paints work best. If you don't have Golden fluid acrylics you can use Golden Airbrush medium, matte medium or any kind of acrylic extender to dilute down the opacity and heavy texture of your paint (unless you WANT opacity in some instances of course) :)
I use a number of different paints, but generally professional quality. In this video I use Golden Fluid Acrylics. Not "High Flow". I do also use heavy body acrylics, and some Liquitex Basics. For a full range of possibilities it's best to have both opaque paints and translucent paints. They have very different effects. Amsterdam paints are not as pigment-rich as professional paints, but they definitely have their uses in this process. Experiment!
Coffee filters are one of my favorite papers to print on. Already cut in a circle shape and as you point out, very strong. Fun magazine impressions! What magazines were you using? Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy your videos.
I will purchase Gel Press Plate, but need to know what brayer shall I get? Can I use speedball soft brayer to spread acrylic paint? Or what shall I use, what baryer suitable??

Thanks, Judi. I try not to "expect" too much, and just see what happens.
My eyes are absorbing everything. So many ideas! Thank you so much.
My mind is spinning! Growing up we had this giant dictionary! I need to locate it amongst my sibs! I can use it! Thanks Jane! How fun!
These are great! Curious about copyright issues on using those very clear images from the magazine pages, particularly the magenta page. Thanks

WOW,, that magazine 'ghost print' technique (image left on gel plate) was amazing. Thanks for the inspiration,, my mind is buzzing :)
Fabulous ideas. Many thanks.
WOWSER techniques. Thank you for sharing Jane.

Simona Karlsdottir You could get a fluid medium to add to heavy body to make them more fluid for your plate.
Beth Broadway yes, that’s the best option, thanks 😉
Oh, that magazine page really left neat image!
Creative and nice❤️
This looks like so much fun. Is the bottom plate just glass or is it a special “ thing”
Sehr schön!

I noticed the one that left the silhouette images said 'designers guide' in the top corner.
In this video I am using a photography magazine that a friend brought over (I think it's from the UK), and the New Yorker.
Great "Playing in the Sandbox" video. Could you share the brand of coffee filters you used?
Really? I have no idea. I think they are all similar. Try different ones, though, and see for yourself.

Follow Your Dreams - Artistic Channel I just brought a cheap lino printer roller/ brayer and it works fine.
COOL!!
Good idea with the Dictionary I have one I can do that with to thank you
What colours do you use? I have oil. Can I do with them?
Oils stay wet a long time and will soak through matte paper, not good. Acrylics are best, even watercolour.
Really Cool
Nice.
👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
👌
Would you leave the camera on the final images a few seconds longer so we have a few more heartbeats to absorb them?
