    Hey Nikos, I ordered one of these today. I finally decided to try my first Asus router. I've been using TP-Link routers and before that I used Apple AirPort. I've been doing a lot of reading, and have watched your videos a few times. Between all that. I felt like this model would be a good balance between price and features. I only have an 877 sq ft apartment, so don't need anything majro, but I also like the fact this also can support 250 devices, for the sake of having a lot of smart devices add up. Plus I also like the Asus software from what I've seen. That's the main reason I am wanting to try this router over the TP-Links I have. Software options. The TP-Link I am currently using is stable, but the web management while nice, is somewhat also basic. So looking forward to seeing how this router works for me.

      @@JcTrickY In performance requirements, airlink I recall being better. Either way, you do NOT need such a high end router for airlink and VD. It works for both of them, but keep in mind that PC specs also impact your performance. If you are looking for a router that certainly works for most applications that I can think of, this is it. If you want to get a router solely for VD or Airlink I encourage you to do some more research.

    Hi, great video! What would you do - buy 3-pack of asus xt8 (includes one main node-router) or buy asus rt 82u (main router) and 2-pack xt8 (aimesh system)? Wired backhaul. Prices are similar.

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. Depending on your requirements of the system setup and your housing situation the question would be why do you need 3? I haven't tested the xt8. However, comparing these I would say the ax82U isn't much different with some expectations. That being said, if your work flow needs more horsepower from the router, going with an ax86U or ax88U would be what I would replace it with or else I would stick with the 3 pack xt8.

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it will do the job. I am assuming not everything is running at full all the time. You will be connecting most of these (like the tv) to the 2.4 channels anyways. I have about 20 devices in my studio and about 10-12 at the house and both the ax86u and ax88u are doing great. This ax82u doesn't have as fast of RAM and CPU speed but it didn't a good job when I used it. I would go more for the ax86U though. Again, buy from somewhere you can test and return just incase it isn't strong enough.

      It's not so much the devices, it's what is being done with the devices. Are 30 of those devices doing Zoom calls with lots of up and down? Probably not. Even if 30 devices are streaming 4k, depending on your ISP and how much bandwidth you are allotted. If you have issues with 35 devices, my guess it's probably not the router but your ISP allotment.

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  2 роки тому +1

      Almost all new modems can go into bridge mode meaning you can just use it as a modem and no router aspect. You would then just connect the new router. I would look at the specs of the model, along with your bandwidth package and then see if it is worth it with a high powered router. You will also want to see what devices are connecting and if it is worth it. This is a wifi 6 router so if you don't have devices for it, the overall experience will be negligible.

    Hey I posted this same question on the 86u review: I'm looking at getting this router as well. My house is two levels with about 1500sq feet on each level. Would this router give us enough range to cover both levels if it's located downstairs? What do you think and does this router or the 86u have better range or are they about the same? Thanks!

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  3 роки тому +5

      I tested both the AX86U and AX88U in a two story house 1800Sq/Ft with basement and they achieve similar distance. The AX86U having slightly better transfer stability but negligible unless you are transferring large files and can see it. The router was in the basement and it is a wood structure with brick outside. It reaches WIFI 6 speeds to the main floor or about 15-20 feet from the router and decreases substantially outside of the range. ie. if I was on top of the router one floor up full speed. The 2.4 GHz network reached second floor no problem with a decrease in speed to around 80-100Mbits per second. So I am assuming you will be good to go.

    • @those1kidds
      @those1kidds 3 роки тому

      @@NikosRentas first of all thanks for the response I really appreciate it. So just to clarify, you tested them in a house with two stories, 1800 sq feet on each level and it covered that amount of square footage with no problem? Or were there parts of the house where the coverage dropped off big time?

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  3 роки тому +4

      Yep, all floors are same size. Basement is extra. The router from the basement covered out to the backyard about 10 feet so I am assuming on the main floor would fully go out 20-30 feet through brick wall. The only place where it dropped significantly was stairwell hallway where there is a series of 4x4's but it still worked. If you get a wifi analyzer app you should be able to see where your bad spots are and adjust the position so you can expect it with any router but with a strong router the signal will just be slightly better. Again, the speeds come down with WIFI 6 or 5GHz network as you move away from the router which means only one floor up for that. The 2.4GHz on the other hand maintained speed for up to that 100Mbits average 2 floors up.

    • @WR3ND
      @WR3ND 2 роки тому

      From the AX86U far back side of the first floor and my older AC68U in the opposite corner of the basement with wooden floors, metal air ducts, the corner of a TV, and a drywall wall between, I'm getting around 1000Mbps, -50dBm connection speed over WiFi 5GHz backhaul with the AC68U in media bridge mode. On the other hand, the AC68U has better WiFi reception than most mobiles or similar with its antennas. That probably accounts for maybe 10 dBm, I'd guess.
      I was thinking I'd use the 2.4GHz band for the backhaul to the basement when I got the AX86U, but nope. 5GHz band is always faster for me anywhere inside I've tested it.

    I live in a neighborhood that only has cox as a provider and even though I plug into the stock panoramic wifi modem router combo through Ethernet with my PC, at certain times (usually from 7pm-midnight) I get bad lag spikes and my fps games become unplayable. Will upgrading to a gaming router like this reduce the lag?

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  3 роки тому +2

      I just googled it and it seems they are just using a router and modem combo. If you are seeing slow downs during those times it probably is the area where there is heavy usage. The router will help regulate the internal network, so say if you had several people in the family all at once on with heavy usage, it would help regulate who needs what so there wouldn't be droppage. I would first get in touch with the provider first and see the situation. I had a similar issue and they had to upgrade my package to gigabit speed and at that during heavy usage time it comes down to 600Mbps. If you were to buy a router I would buy one from somewhere that you can return it and test it out.

      I am not sure where you are from and what gaming along with the distance. But on average the wifi 6 routes are priced in the 200+ range in USD. Not sure you need wifi 6 on the devices you have. You should review them and check. The exception to the price is the Asus RT-AX55 that is relatively newer but rather slower from it's stats. I haven't tested it and I am not sure how good it will be. I would probably be lookin for a sale on a high powered non AX router like the RT-AC86U or equivalent on sale or used.

      Sometimes the antenna directions will help but in general if there is a dead spot that you can't fix it might be the structure of the house where the signal won't get through. ie. I have one where the metal beam and wood fixture won't allow it. When I added another unit for aiMesh in a different location of the house it fixed my issue. So if you can't move the router with a longer cable then I would look at another router to setup aiMesh.

      I would be upgrading to the ax86u if anything. It should handle everything for you. I would purchase it from somewhere you can return just in case. If you have a work vpn, you could extend the old router and have it dedicated only to work with it's own band. The other thing you could do is create a separate network within the router that you connect when working. In theory should clear things up.

      They are locked for different regions as there are different laws with wireless connectivity and this can cause instability and negative behaviors. There are world editions that come from china that you can manually change in the settings and I believe you can upload Merlin to adjust that manually as well. I wouldn't suggest it if you are not a tech geek and stick to the EU version as you can get fined if the wireless interferes with the laws. That being said, it uses the ADP-45ZE B with a North American extension cable. The power supply is AC Input : 110V~240V(50~60Hz) DC Output : 19 V with max. 2.37 A current / 19.5 V with max. 2.31 A current. You would need the European converter. The added costs and potential instability is not worth it in my opinion. If I was moving back to Greece I would bring it with me though lol. I would research it more and see if it is worth the money and the risk before buying.

At that point the question is would you be upgrading your device soon. If so then you will most likely get a WIFI 6 card in any new laptop. So the question is do you buy this or wait to upgrade to the WIFI 6e that will be mainstream over the next few years. Lastly, you can always upgrade your laptop for relatively cheap amount. Here is the video I have on how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/o_Hqghkqgrs/v-deo.html

    What's best router buy for Wired connection I'm on cat8 cable only use wifi on phone I game and all wierd mostly I got DOCSIS 3.1 I'm on netgear rax10 Ax1800 rite now . What best for money . I'm on comcast Service mostly get up 438mbps lil higher something

    • @NikosRentas
      @NikosRentas  3 роки тому +1

      You will probably not see significant increase with the newer routers tbh. If you comcast package is I am assuming a 500Gbit speed then you will average the same. If it is more than I would upgrade to something that supports DOCSIS 3.1. It seems that that ax88U supports it. I am assuming the Netgear higher versions of the router you have will support it. Again, for what you do you may or may not find significant improvement.

      I have heard mixed reviews and it gets the job done. I would probably buy from somewhere you can return it just incase it isn't meeting your needs if you do buy it. Also check out Dong Knows. dongknows.com/asus-rt-ax92u-review/ He does some quality reviews and you can also ask him questions on his posts.

      I mean purchase from a place where you can return it. Not that payment type. If you get it somewhere with 30 day return policy you can test to see if it meets your needs before deciding to keep it or try something else.

      If you are looking for speed with multiple use cases and users then yes. If you are looking for just you and say gaming or transferring then no.
