I swear to God, back in those haloed days, if you saw this little Angel soul do this song live and up close you'd be thinking "I'm gonna need open heart surgery to repair the damage"...and it really was true. It would take days to recover from it or in some cases years or maybe not at all. There's just something so hypnotic about her and this song...it's deceptively simple in it's form but she brings so much innocent emotion into it...It's a perfect song and her voice is absolutely timeless...
I was in the audience as a 16 year old! Father-daughter camp-style bonding at Folk Festival. I remember getting a ‘CD’ but gosh…. maybe it was a ‘tape’ 😂 I just remember taking pictures with my camera so I could capture the moment I discovered her and how I felt. I clearly remember her outfit and hat and how cool she was to this teen.
Shawn has been around for years now. she is no newbie. I first saw her at a little chapel in Vermont. It was just her and her guitar, and a bunch of us sitting in the pews. Great show. I have seen here several times since (she did some great shows with Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt a few years back). Thanks for posting this video.
I saw her in Wesboro MA around the early 90s - just her and her guitar. It was magical. She is such an amazing talent, but unfortunately I think it's hard to capture how special she is on recordings. :(
The Live Tapes songs are the best ! I remember anticipating the studio versions but was disappointed that they were so over produced. Still great writing but lacking the raw emotion of Live Tape! Still tugs at the ❤
The best singer/songwriter most people don’t know and an absolute treasure to those of us who know the secret sign. ❤ Shawn Colvin ❤️

So well said Michael!!! She has the same effect on me even today!

1988, this is amazing. I had the great pleasure of seeing her live multiple times and bought every album. She inspired me a great deal.
What a treasure! Thank you so much for posting this! Her live performances are the best!

Wow! Shawn is SO young here. Thanks for posting.
A greatest poem ever written and sung.
An evergreen song/poem. Someday I want to listen at her gig.
Such a beautiful song.

Beautiful.

You got it. :) Awesome little venue; too bad it's gone.
Rosie O'Donnel just told her bloggers to check this artist and song out.
Wow. Never heard of her before.
She's great.
This has every mark of a Cliff Eberhardt song (they were young songwriters together in Illinois).
I met her there at that festival.
Was there...she stopped the Festival!
agreed.
