I simply adore her. Her voice, musicality and songwriting are simply perfect. I saw her a few years ago in Mobile AL. She was sick with the flu but did not want to cancel and disappoint her fans. You don't see dedication like that very often. It is why us fans love her so much.
This is magic. So glad it was recorded. Shawn really feels these songs, and its captivating to hear her play/sing them at this early stage of her career. Bravo!
Loved these songs the minute they came out. So great to see them before released. I only saw her for the first time a few years back, it was wonderful. Such exquisite playing also, masterful ❤
I have loved Shawn for decades - truly, decades. This is a great recording and she sounds amazing. Such a talented performer that I hope to see in concert again very soon. Love you, Shawn!
When you become aware of Shawn Colvin in the 2000's, and she has MCC, John Levanthal, and others that came along side her in her recordings and "Hits", THEN, a video like this surfaces and you see what she was doing before that time period, I realize how articulate her guitar playing is as well as her emotional investment in solo acoustic guitar. I could sit for hours listening to her doing solo acoustic, and in a way feel like she is allowing you to read her diary through her lyrics. At times she gets a bit too dark for me, but then, it's life stories and we all have dark times. Thank you for posting this, along with the early David Wilcox one a saw a while back.
So great! I was introduced to her music about two years later and have been a fan ever since. I saw her at the BottonLine in NYC in ‘92 - so lucky! I regularly look here to see what’s new, or old new. Love finding gems like this. Thanks Shawn and team for making these available to be enjoyed again and again.
Diamond in the Rough is a masterpiece. Saw Shawn open for Richard Thompson in 1991 on his Rumour and Sigh tour. What a night. Saw her with Lyle Lovett a few years ago. She sings like an angel. Reminds me of Nancy Griffith.
Had a dream last night about being back on Bleecker in those heady days '77 - '83. Shawn and George Gerdes RIP, Cliffy, Marc Johnson et al. Absolutely nothing like it. There's truth in the old cliche 'the good ol' days.
This was so cool to find about 4-5 years ago I think. Just awesome to see live pre- Steady On versions of songs that hooked me from that first listen on the radio that I still hold as treasures to this day. That diamond wasn't as rough as you claimed in the musical sense at least. The unique guitar style, the expressive voice and perfectly worded poetry. Thank you for all you've endured and the hard work it took you to share your gift for all these years. I can't imagine all these years without your music and thankfully don't have to. Best wishes to many more!
Shawn, if you ever just care to take a break and visit a cool small arts town in the rockies - Salida is a wonderful small music driven town. You can be incognito here and perhaps your daughter would enjoy a visit too? A maple latte happy to shout, walking around -- ahh 88' when I moved to Aussie to tour --
I toured Germany in 1994 and Shawn's CD Steady On was on constant rotation on those long bus rides. Love hearing this from '88! Such a sparkly voice.
What a voice and gift for crafting hearfelt and deep songs!

So young!!
So glad this performance was shared. She’s been my celebrity crush for at least a decade or more.

So beautiful. I too was doing a lot of traveling in 1988 and, it too, seems just like yesterday.
Thanks so much.

Thank you, Shawn, for this glimpse of your beginnings ❤
What a delight to find this today. Thank you so much for posting it. Please come back to the UK soon.
Wonderful ! Thank you for sharing this. Great songs and your cool personality shines through.
God she’s magical. I’ve loved her for 30 years. Thank you, Shawn.

My late father said the same...he introduced me to Shawn's music in the early 90's and I am forever grateful.

I love your voice and I love to see guitars that have been played. Only 8 comments up to now. I’m surprised by that. You are a great songwriter.
Pure magic.

Her Live in 88 CD was killer. I cannot find a digital version anywhere. If anyone knows where to find it, plz lemme know.
