I really wish Winter’s character arc would’ve stuck more so it could’ve been a gradual change into how he is in book 14. Like he was under a spell for book 9 and 10 but even when he’s free, he just reverts back to his old self. I just. There was so much potential which is why I love Winter fanfictions since it gives me some sort of closure with him :(
I love the foreshadowing in Book 9 where all of the animuses were summoned, and Jerboa 3 is there for almost a millisecond, probably disappearing right back into her hut. This gets the audience wondering, “Who was that Sandwing?” Which is foreshadowing book 14 with the backstory of Jerboa and Jerboa 3 and why Jerboa 3 destroyed animus magic in the first place. I just think it was great foreshadowing. Good job, Tui! *chefs kiss*
I would say that, while messily written, Arc 2 is probably the most interesting of the bunch with intriguing, likable characters and conflicts, and the best villains of the series (Darkstalker and Scarlet). Regarding the other two, I'd say that Arc 1, while contrived, is the most consistent and well-written, whereas Arc 3 is a mixed bag. It had great potential, but in the end it fell flat on its face.
Honestly get what you're saying but I love the first book because of moons telepathy we don't just get on main characters thought process we get almost everyone else's thought process in Moon rising because Moon can read everyone else's mind and I actually remember really missing that when I was reading Windows book
It's a very unique way of developing characters to be honest. Without Moon's telepathy, we wouldn't know almost anything about any of the main characters. Now, having Turtle exempt to this was a good touch as it grounded this approach of character development and made it seem more plausible, and ironic in a way. Moon Rising is by far my favorite book because of this. Also, the way Moonwatcher was presented really helps the reader connect, as most people do struggle with varying amounts of anxiety. It's a huge thing that really, really, immensely helps with connecting the reader to the character, and the story directly, as well as other characters through that character.
I do love all the foreshadowing and references (like in moon rising, I think clay says something about dragons making mistakes that need to be forgiven, and tsunami pauses and then walks away, and moon feels a ripple of guilt, referencing tsunami killing her father)
Winter desperately needed more scenes showing his growth and even vulnerability. It really is my biggest issue in the entire series because I relate so much to Winter and his struggles. He deserved so much better.
His character development felt like nothing after book 7. It’s just one of those characters who are better in their own book than the rest, the same goes for Moon as well. It also kinda bothers me how he still growls and spits at his friends often, even while being under Dark’s spell. I kinda wish after book 7 he began a little more soft-spoken yet was still capable of protecting or babbling at those around him, just not so often.
@@Littlefox1213 RIGHT? And what better event to cause that to happen than when Peril runs into him and he burns up. Right THERE is when he should've realized, he could've DIED. That could've been IT. Have the animus rock not heal him instantly, give him time to recover so that he learns to depend on others, and then he also develops at the same time. And then have him come back strong as ever when it's time to defeat Darkstalker. WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE DONE THAT?
@@kirkyturki1546 Of course! Where’s the grumpy IceWing prince in ARC 3? If Tui wanted Winter’s personality to be anything like it was in book 14 she’d had to have him learn sometime after his book. Though book 14 is pretty recent, at any time could he still be grumpy though that’s not what we got any more? I just wish that Winter would stop yelling at others and respecting his family in book 10, when in book 7 he realizes that he’s not happy on the Ice Palace with his parents, finally understanding why Hailstorm wanted to be a SkyWing again. There could’ve been a better reason to fight alongside his tribe and not his family, though if he realized that his friends had a better plan to stop the war, he could’ve stayed with them to help.

To explain the school bomb scene and how I feel about it:SPOILERS!! One of clay’s siblings wanted to kill an icewing by using a bomb because that icewing killed one of her siblings. This does not go well and one of the classmates died from the incident It’s been a while since I’ve read the books but I felt like this plot line was not finished? Like I don’t remember anything about it even though it should have a bigger role in the story since someone literally died. The bomb plot/scene kinda just felt like shock value and I wish we could’ve explored more about it in the books :( - As for winter there are so many people that explained his arc and how he was underdeveloped and I think I wouldn’t have anything new to say about that topic. Also please forgive me for leaving the characters unnamed I cannot remember their names :’)
I think Winter got exactly what he deserved and needed. The best thing Winter needed for himself after the events of Arc 2 was time alone to reflect and rebuild himself. That’s exactly what he got and by Book 14 he was a lot better.
I've taken note of something in that half of the Jade Winglet are sidelined in some way during the Arc Main character Moon: Sets up stuff for the future events. Sidelined Carnelian: Dies horribly to be mostly forgotten. Main character Peril: Has an overall great book concluding a great overarching villain. Sidelined Kinkajou: Nearly dies for the sake of said book and enchanted to love someone. Main character Turtle: Has a great build up to their book that helps build up to the Arc's finale. Sidelined Umber: Disappears in the first book and never seen again along with his sister. Main character Qibli: has a great side story in an ok book confronting their past becoming better, helps save the day and gets the girl in the final epilogue. Both main character and sidelined (miraculously) Winter: has a great side story in a mediocre book leaving their past behind, slowly regresses, gets manipulated by someone who wants him and his entire tribe dead, fully regresses, gets cast away by his friend as though a past thought and only appears again in the epilogue, not even knowing the fate of said manipulator, only getting his hobby and a visiting Kinkajou. (This just feels backwards in terms of character progression like building a house upside down and somehow getting two roofs, one on top and one on bottom.) Honestly, Winter's a summation of the arc as a whole. Good character, oddly placed story. For instance, Winter's book has the chase and capture of Icicle, the introduction of Pyrite leading to the reveal of Hailstorm and the diamond trial of Winter and Hailstorm leading to the introduction of Foeslayer who disappears until she is needed later. There's also Kinkajou being injured to get the jade winglet to go to Possibility for Peril's book and for Anemone's love enchantment. These pieces each have their place in the story though with the sidetracking needed to do so, it bog's the story down. Though, with tweaks to events at the end of book 6 and start of book 8, we could place Winters book as the last book Since Kinkajou isn't sidelined in this, she'll have more of a subplot with her crush on Winter. This could have her feelings grow into love or wither into just friendship, well go with the former in this case. This of course escalates into Anemone enchanting her to fall in love with Turtle. Book 6 Moon rising Icicle doesn't escape and is instead caught. Book 7 Escaping Peril The rest of the Jade Winglet goes with Peril and Turtle along with Pyrite who joins them after the ambush from the Talons of Peace. Winter gets into an argument with Peril and Pyrite leading to him being burned by Peril with her running away and Pyrite being revealed to be Hailstorm. Hailstorm would stick with the group until the awakening of Darkstalker in which he would flee to the Ice kingdom. Book 8 Talons of Power Anemone would place her enchantment to make Kinkajou fall in love as a 'gift' to her brother Turtle still. Book 9 Darkness of Dragons When Darkstalker sees the vision of Foeslayer he notes Winter is with her. When he and the others with him don't find the two Moon gets her vision of a Rain-Nightwing hybrid with her believing it is Darkstalker. They try to give Darkstalker the strawberry he refuses without his mother to persuade him. Darkstalker would take the group towards the Ice kingdom believing that since Winter was sent there, that is where he would find his answer. Epilogue has Darkstalker thinking on his past with his Parents, Sister and Clearsight. Book 10 Winter Turning (This has to go into a bit more detail) Prologue same as before Part 1: Cold Truths We find Winter at the Raking wall seeing himself at the top spot after saving Hailstorm and Fighting in the battle against the Nightwings and his sister and brother at the bottom of the rankings. Winter tries to find pride in this reminiscing on past memories in the Ice kingdom eventually recalling his time with the Jade Winglet finding time with them to have been much more enjoyable. Part ends with Winter being challenged by Hailstorm to the Diamond Trial. Part 2: Beneath the Ice Winter, Hailstorm and Queen Snowfall travel to the trial ground with Snowfall questioning Winter on his time away from the Ice kingdom. Things would play out similar until we get to Winter freeing Foeslayer. Winter would of course accuse her of stealing Artic revealing he left with her and accuse her of letting Darkstalker get power hungry leading to her learning about what he has done much to her dismay. Foeslayer would ask Winter to take her to her son ending the Part. Part 3: Finding Peace Winter and Foeslayer make their journey to Jade Mountain with Foeslayer asking Winter why he gave up his life in the Ice kingdom with Winter giving an answer of he found something better. Eventually the two would cross paths with Darkstalker and his entourage. The Jade Winglet would make amends, Foeslayer convinces her son to eat the strawberry becoming Peacemaker, Final words are said concluding the story. Epilogue Would be similar to the final epilogue with two differences; the absence of Moon's love triangle since that wasn't established (Moon and Qibli's relationship would probably be established in Darkness of Dragons in this case) and Winter and Kinkajou reminiscing on her crush on him.
In my ideal sequence a revisited arc 2 book order goes: Moon's book; I honestly wouldn't change much, I think it's fine as it is. Maybe a few touch-ups here and there, but overall it works out basically the same. The one significant change is that Alongside Carnealian have Umber killed too (or put them in a coma if you think that's too far); that way it justifies why he doesn't show up for the rest of the series and you can have Sora spiral even further down her villain arc (if you couldn't tell, I thought Sora was pretty lackluster for an antagonist). Kinkajou's book: the problem is she doesn't really have much of an arc in the main series, so we'd have to find some kind of inner conflict for her, I'm leaning towards dealing with PTSD from when she'd been kidnapped by NightWings last arc. As for the plot you could do a little more with how Icicle is trying to get Glory in the original Book 7 and Kinkajou feels like she has to protect her. I'm still workshopping it. Also here you could set up her romance with Turtle so it doesn't feel like it comes out of the blue like in Book 9; you could have the reveal that Turtle is an animus here too, because that scene in Escaping Peril felt pretty contrived if you ask me. Winter's book: it's not too different from the original plot of Winter Turning, except the Rainforest section was already covered in Kinkajou's book. Here the first part would be him finding Hailstorm, the second would be the Ice Kingdom and the Dimond trial, and the third part would him returning to his friends and defeat Chameleon (He was such a wasted villain imo) though Scarlet slips away once again. In this version when they get their hands on the scroll and start arguing it's Turtle who destroys the scroll because he understands how dangerous it is. Qibli's book: I think Qibli is far more suited to detective work than Turtle, so that's why I place this book here. We has to He still has a lot of his character backstory from Darkness of Dragons, but Instead of frolicking off to the Sand Kingdom it's accomplished via flashbacks. In the present Qibli is slowly figuring out what Darkstalker is planning without letting him catch on (here he doesn't have the invisibility stick because I think that was a stupid plot device which for the most part removed any direct danger Turtle would've been in for 99% of the book), and towards the end realizes their thought process is so similar that he's one bad decision away from becoming like Darkstalker himself, that way the character development from DoD is preserved. Also putting Qibli's book here forces Tui to address the love triangle now instead of putting it off till the last minute like in the main canon. Turtle's book: basically take Darkness of Dragons, scratch out the first act with the Onyx subplot, and replace it with the last act of Talons of Power. This way the pacing flows much better, Anemone's redemption doesn't feel tacked on, and there's none of that stupid love triangle dragging down the book. Turtle I think would make a far better rival for Darkstalker as he's the only one who can realistically stand up to the big bad. In this version Turtle's been struggling with temperance by using his gift responsibly the whole arc, and now he has to step up and fix the mess he made by destroying the scroll. Maybe you could up the stakes by having Scarlet try to get in on this Darkstalker business? Also put a bit more focus on the IceWing Plague since that felt more like an afterthought in the main canon, and have his defeat be an entire group effort from *all* the previous protagonists, not just an intervention with only Qibli, Moon, Kinkajou, and Foeslayer. The last thing I wanna say to Tui is that you need to work on when you set something up you better be prepared to deliver on it, because arc 2 had a big problem with introducing a new subplot everytime you turned around only to get distracted by a shiny and leave it dangling till the last minute.

*Actually I'm gonna say even more now:* Scarlet deserved a MUCH more "thrilling" death than getting her neck snapped in a royal challenge for a throne she already lost. I get that Peril couldn't kill her due to preserving her character development, but they could've had Scarlet's arena prisoner survivors tear her apart in her own arena that was turned into a hospital for a more poetic death. Vulture was introduced way too late and had so much more potential but was sadly the most wasted opportunity in a villain. Using magic to turn Darkstalker into a baby with no memories was the most anticlimatic ending possible.

My favorite arc so far (only read the 1st two) and I love Darkstalker Legends. I do have to say that Turtle and Winter had some lost potential (especially Winter) and it would have been nice to seen more, but not a lot where it's annoying.
I agree. Moon Rising is my favorite of all the books. The introduction of Darkstalker was genius and so well-done. 👌 And I agree, Winter Turning was monotonous. It felt like such an unnatural and abrupt shift from Moonwatcher and Darkstalker. And now I've lost $10…
Qibli’s and Turtle’s books would have worked much better as a part 1 and part2 that swapped between multiple both of their PoVs. Darkness of Dragons is the only book of the main series that starts behind where the previous book left off (excluding prologues). All the other books start right after the previous book ends, or at most a few weeks/months after.
Ok I feel like Winter's character growth just goes off and on in Arc 2. In Moon Rising ofc he's angry, aggressive Winter. In Winter Turning he says that his winglet is like his own small tribe. So good, some character growth right? Nahhhhhhh, In Escaping Peril and Talons of Power he feels like he's semi Book 6, Semi Book 7. And in Darkness of Dragons his apology to Qibli shows his growth again, but later on he confronts Moon aggressively again just like in Moon Rising (Aka where he started before all that character growth happened). It really feels like it just turns off and on and never really sticks, at least in The Dangerous Gift his character growth actually stays and doesn't turn off and on mid book. I think it's still my favorite Arc and I say it's an 8.75375/10.
Btw I have a theory that Darkstalker was controlling more of everything, his own puppet show were he wanted everything would grow like back 2000 years ago and no one knew, except Arctic and Indigo, if you wanna hear it let me know
Finally, someone who agrees with me that Peril's book is amazing. I liked it for a different reason though. I don't actually remember that much about plot or char development. I liked the way it makes us really think about Peril's predicament with her severe lack of credit and trust and its implications in real life.
I honestly think it would be very, very interesting if Qibli accepted Darkstalker's offer in book 10.. Would he actually kill Darkstalker in an animus battle? Would he use his powers for good, evil, or both? Would Qibli and Darkstalker become allies? Would Qibli use his magic to make everything better after Darkstalker is killed or would he be driven into insanity by his soul being turned evil????
I remembered the nightwing island,i guessed that the ash dragon was morrowsear and using the graph novel the ash dragon has the same pose as morrowsear does before he dies,i actually love winter turning,but my favorite in the arc was 100% moon rising,it was the first WOF book i ever read since books 1-5 were checked out.I also read darkstalker legends at the same time, HOW DID I READ THE BOOK THAT DARKSTAKER WAS IN AND WHEN HE RETURNS,HOW!
My favorite part of book 6 was the mystory as to Darkstalker's true motivations and morality. He's such a master manipulater, that he broke the 4th wall and had me thinking maybe he wasn't so bad.
Wings of charcoal says the he likes how the characters drive the story. In book 5, the brightest night, the story completely drives her. The story itself does more then sunny herself. I thinks it’s a good book, but there are things I would change.
Good points on all of those. One thing I can appreciate on Qibli's book is that at least there was SOMETHING going on with him while Turlte was spying on Darkstalker (As part one of Darkness of Dragons an Part 2 onwards of Talons of Power happen simultaneously, and the book would have been far more boring if Qibli had remained at Jade Mountain idle during that time).
Only reason arc 2 isn’t my favorite is because of Darkstalker. I feel like he had a lot of potential but it was wasted. He could have been extremely interesting, but instead he is just an annoying spoiled brat who couldn’t be stopped. This is my opinion, ofc.
Not sure. Apparently for now we know they aren’t immune to RainWing venom. I don’t think fire will do much, though Peril was hurt by that cactus bomb but maybe because it exploded.
I haven't read Darkstalker or Dragonslayer yet to be honest. The entire series still makes sense without them, but I bet reading them would add a lot of information and character development to major characters and events in the series that I don't know about because I have not read those books.
Darkstalker is just his backstory but also has the seawing royal massacre and arctic's death and his relationship with his family he loves his sister whiteout and foeslayer hates arctic clearsight was his love interest fathom is his friend that wants to learn from him I like fathom and indigo's relationship and the happy ending in the epiloge
And dragonslayer is absolutely pointless absolutely boring and just to forgettable the only thing I remember is wern and sky's relationship and that's it
Personally, my favourite Arc is Arc 1. It has a much darker tone than the rest of the series. No other book outside of Arc 1 (with the obvious and major exception of Legends: Darkstalker) has captured the same amount of dark tones, deep themes and gore.
I re read winter turning recently, ok that was a like I re read it in may, and I thought it was bad beftore and and not much change, and I just love how dramatic music played when Darkstalker happened.

I've read all 17 of the Wings of Fire books that are (I think) published. The 3 arcs, 5 books each, and the 2 supereditions. I enjoyed arcs 1 and 2, and I liked books 11-13 and the Darkstalker superedition. I was ambivalent towards book 14 and the Dragonslayer superedition. Book 15, though, encouraged me to stop reading the series at that book. The "reveal" that the breath of evil plant had its own consciousness and was controlling Queen Wasp and, by extension, all of the Hivewings. I thought Queen Wasp's ability to control other dragons via "her venom" was so cool and was a nod to the handful of parasitic wasps that can control other insects. The fact that the plant was controlling the dragons, not the parasitic ruler of the Hivewings, destroyed my enjoyment of the arc. Suddenly the conflict wasn't dragons vs dragons, but dragons vs some magical plant.
I think the biggest issue with Arc 2, despite still being good, is it's commitment to its formula of switching it's protagonist in each book. Though the formula has lead to each character standing out in their book, it doesn't really mesh well with the overall plot of Arc 2 and it really started to get stale with each POV switch feeling somewhat arbitrary rather than cohesive. By focusing so exclusively in giving each book their respective character focused stories, it has lead to several issues such as poor pacing, overuse of filler and side plots being disconnected from the main plot. It has also lead to probably the worst flaw of side lining it's previous protagonists in favour of the current protagonist in their book which makes them come across as flat or even act out of character which harms their long term character growth after their book (With Winter being the biggest offender in this regard). While Arc 1 has some of the same issues, it made it up by having the structure compliment both the plot and characters with each book focused on their respective protagonist exploring both their origins and place in the prophecy. This made each book feel like a logical step in the overall narrative of ending the war of Sandwing succession. This does not apply much to Arc 2. Overall, as individual character driven stories, Arc 2 excels in this and is so far the best in providing this in the entire series. But as an overall arc wide plot, Arc 2 really struggles in this regard.
If marsh went with Sora instead of umber I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO GET A BOOK . I would give peril a winglet that’s like 210 pages so it’s shorter e like a winglet and umber can get book 8 . Remember this is all my opinion
I feel like both dogs doctor and Dragonslayer, all the same for required reading granted I love Dragonslayer but that's mainly because I love sky, I read book 14 first in fact the only reason I even read dragon slayer at all it's because sky was in it, just like darkstalker you can get the gist of what's going on without having to eat the book
I just finished book 9 and it's my least favorite one. I love book 6 and 7 equally and book 8 it's good, had an annoying start but it got better has Peril became less Clay obsessed.

I honestly think dark stalker is the best villain of the series, I think it's because unlike the other villains he's not in it for himself he think that what he's doing is for the best of everyone else he thinks that what he's doing is good and genuinely helping others he thinks he's a genuinely good person, more interesting to me than bill and his selfish and only in it for themselves so which is what queen wasp and queen Scarlet is someone who's selfish and just looking out for themself, darkstalker thinks that what he's doing is the best of everyone else things that he's the only one who has everyone else's best interest at heart and that's more interesting
I honestly found it scary how casually he used his powers, and how many he had. Dude was flinging out superstrength amulets like bread crumbs, and there was pretty much nothing the protagonists could do.
I like how winter saves starflight from icicle and moon from sharpshifer and Qibly from a harpoon and hailstorm from scarlet and qibly from drowning in sand and foeslayer from the trial AND crystal from snowfall yet he is still under appreciated and tui does him dirty in book 10
I don’t get why people think Winter was done dirty at the end of Arc 2. He got exactly what he needed for himself: he was free from the corrupting ways of his tribe and able to live a better life studying scavengers in peace away from rankings. For anyone who thinks Winter needed Moon or Qibli to fall in love with him in order to be happy and fix all his problems, you’re sorely mistaken. Time alone to reflect and rebuild himself was the best thing for him. That’s exactly what he got and by Book 14 he was all better.

You seem to be letting Winter off the hook for a lot of things but not on his peers.
I’d say read darkstalker legends after moon rising, and you honestly don’t need to read dragon slayer, unless you want a bit of context to why “Queen Oasis was killed by a scavenger” and wren and sky of course, but nothing else really matters until book 14-15 and maybe book 5? I honestly need to reread the series

Personally I don't think that interesting, I think the third ox trail villain is very very interesting considering it's not wasp it's a plant that's controlling wasp and dark stalker like I said I'm only thinks that he's a good person and if you ask him why are you being evil he would deny that he is and counter with what I'm doing is helping others and I think that's very interesting, I will say she's more interesting than what but wasp isn't the main villain of the third Rock she's very minor and she does her job well as a puppet
Moon Rising was boring. Winter Turning was unpleasant on account of Winter being a xenophobic a**hole. Escaping Peril was fantastic, with some of the best writing to come out of the entire series. I didn't like Legends: Darkstalker because of the alternating points of view. Talons of Power was also boring. Cut the fluff, Darkness of Dragons! Not to mention the introduction of Luna at the end felt tagged on at the last minute. All in all, Arc 2 is a nice followup to the first one, but lacks the foresight, continuity and consistency of the first arc.
Winter Turning is underrated... Although I can see why it's the worst book in the arc... My IceWing friend made some very tough decisions in that book; like abandoning his tribe after being placed at #1 in the First Circle of the IceWings...
Wow I thought the exact opposite. Darkness Of Dragons had a lot of flaws but it was still really great, and Moon Rising was phenomenal from beginning to end, in my opinion at least.

I really wish Winter’s character arc would’ve stuck more so it could’ve been a gradual change into how he is in book 14. Like he was under a spell for book 9 and 10 but even when he’s free, he just reverts back to his old self. I just. There was so much potential which is why I love Winter fanfictions since it gives me some sort of closure with him :(
I love the foreshadowing in Book 9 where all of the animuses were summoned, and Jerboa 3 is there for almost a millisecond, probably disappearing right back into her hut. This gets the audience wondering, “Who was that Sandwing?” Which is foreshadowing book 14 with the backstory of Jerboa and Jerboa 3 and why Jerboa 3 destroyed animus magic in the first place. I just think it was great foreshadowing. Good job, Tui! *chefs kiss*
I would say that, while messily written, Arc 2 is probably the most interesting of the bunch with intriguing, likable characters and conflicts, and the best villains of the series (Darkstalker and Scarlet).
Regarding the other two, I'd say that Arc 1, while contrived, is the most consistent and well-written, whereas Arc 3 is a mixed bag. It had great potential, but in the end it fell flat on its face.
Honestly get what you're saying but I love the first book because of moons telepathy we don't just get on main characters thought process we get almost everyone else's thought process in Moon rising because Moon can read everyone else's mind and I actually remember really missing that when I was reading Windows book

It's a very unique way of developing characters to be honest. Without Moon's telepathy, we wouldn't know almost anything about any of the main characters. Now, having Turtle exempt to this was a good touch as it grounded this approach of character development and made it seem more plausible, and ironic in a way. Moon Rising is by far my favorite book because of this. Also, the way Moonwatcher was presented really helps the reader connect, as most people do struggle with varying amounts of anxiety. It's a huge thing that really, really, immensely helps with connecting the reader to the character, and the story directly, as well as other characters through that character.

Winter desperately needed more scenes showing his growth and even vulnerability. It really is my biggest issue in the entire series because I relate so much to Winter and his struggles. He deserved so much better.
Agreed. I feel like he was put on the backburner after book 8.
His character development felt like nothing after book 7. It’s just one of those characters who are better in their own book than the rest, the same goes for Moon as well. It also kinda bothers me how he still growls and spits at his friends often, even while being under Dark’s spell. I kinda wish after book 7 he began a little more soft-spoken yet was still capable of protecting or babbling at those around him, just not so often.

Have the animus rock not heal him instantly, give him time to recover so that he learns to depend on others, and then he also develops at the same time. And then have him come back strong as ever when it's time to defeat Darkstalker. WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE DONE THAT?
@@kirkyturki1546 Of course! Where’s the grumpy IceWing prince in ARC 3? If Tui wanted Winter’s personality to be anything like it was in book 14 she’d had to have him learn sometime after his book. Though book 14 is pretty recent, at any time could he still be grumpy though that’s not what we got any more? I just wish that Winter would stop yelling at others and respecting his family in book 10, when in book 7 he realizes that he’s not happy on the Ice Palace with his parents, finally understanding why Hailstorm wanted to be a SkyWing again. There could’ve been a better reason to fight alongside his tribe and not his family, though if he realized that his friends had a better plan to stop the war, he could’ve stayed with them to help.

One of clay’s siblings wanted to kill an icewing by using a bomb because that icewing killed one of her siblings. This does not go well and one of the classmates died from the incident
It’s been a while since I’ve read the books but I felt like this plot line was not finished? Like I don’t remember anything about it even though it should have a bigger role in the story since someone literally died. The bomb plot/scene kinda just felt like shock value and I wish we could’ve explored more about it in the books :(

I think Winter got exactly what he deserved and needed. The best thing Winter needed for himself after the events of Arc 2 was time alone to reflect and rebuild himself. That’s exactly what he got and by Book 14 he was a lot better.

Turtle: Has a great build up to their book that helps build up to the Arc's finale.

Umber: Disappears in the first book and never seen again along with his sister.

Qibli: has a great side story in an ok book confronting their past becoming better, helps save the day and gets the girl in the final epilogue.
Both main character and sidelined (miraculously)
Winter: has a great side story in a mediocre book leaving their past behind, slowly regresses, gets manipulated by someone who wants him and his entire tribe dead, fully regresses, gets cast away by his friend as though a past thought and only appears again in the epilogue, not even knowing the fate of said manipulator, only getting his hobby and a visiting Kinkajou. (This just feels backwards in terms of character progression like building a house upside down and somehow getting two roofs, one on top and one on bottom.)
Honestly, Winter's a summation of the arc as a whole. Good character, oddly placed story.
For instance, Winter's book has the chase and capture of Icicle, the introduction of Pyrite leading to the reveal of Hailstorm and the diamond trial of Winter and Hailstorm leading to the introduction of Foeslayer who disappears until she is needed later. There's also Kinkajou being injured to get the jade winglet to go to Possibility for Peril's book and for Anemone's love enchantment. These pieces each have their place in the story though with the sidetracking needed to do so, it bog's the story down. Though, with tweaks to events at the end of book 6 and start of book 8, we could place Winters book as the last book
Since Kinkajou isn't sidelined in this, she'll have more of a subplot with her crush on Winter. This could have her feelings grow into love or wither into just friendship, well go with the former in this case. This of course escalates into Anemone enchanting her to fall in love with Turtle.
Book 6 Moon rising
Icicle doesn't escape and is instead caught.
Book 7 Escaping Peril
The rest of the Jade Winglet goes with Peril and Turtle along with Pyrite who joins them after the ambush from the Talons of Peace. Winter gets into an argument with Peril and Pyrite leading to him being burned by Peril with her running away and Pyrite being revealed to be Hailstorm. Hailstorm would stick with the group until the awakening of Darkstalker in which he would flee to the Ice kingdom.
Book 8 Talons of Power
Anemone would place her enchantment to make Kinkajou fall in love as a 'gift' to her brother Turtle still.
Book 9 Darkness of Dragons
When Darkstalker sees the vision of Foeslayer he notes Winter is with her. When he and the others with him don't find the two Moon gets her vision of a Rain-Nightwing hybrid with her believing it is Darkstalker. They try to give Darkstalker the strawberry he refuses without his mother to persuade him. Darkstalker would take the group towards the Ice kingdom believing that since Winter was sent there, that is where he would find his answer.
Epilogue has Darkstalker thinking on his past with his Parents, Sister and Clearsight.
Book 10 Winter Turning (This has to go into a bit more detail)
Prologue same as before
Part 1: Cold Truths
We find Winter at the Raking wall seeing himself at the top spot after saving Hailstorm and Fighting in the battle against the Nightwings and his sister and brother at the bottom of the rankings. Winter tries to find pride in this reminiscing on past memories in the Ice kingdom eventually recalling his time with the Jade Winglet finding time with them to have been much more enjoyable. Part ends with Winter being challenged by Hailstorm to the Diamond Trial.
Part 2: Beneath the Ice
Winter, Hailstorm and Queen Snowfall travel to the trial ground with Snowfall questioning Winter on his time away from the Ice kingdom. Things would play out similar until we get to Winter freeing Foeslayer. Winter would of course accuse her of stealing Artic revealing he left with her and accuse her of letting Darkstalker get power hungry leading to her learning about what he has done much to her dismay. Foeslayer would ask Winter to take her to her son ending the Part.
Part 3: Finding Peace
Winter and Foeslayer make their journey to Jade Mountain with Foeslayer asking Winter why he gave up his life in the Ice kingdom with Winter giving an answer of he found something better. Eventually the two would cross paths with Darkstalker and his entourage. The Jade Winglet would make amends, Foeslayer convinces her son to eat the strawberry becoming Peacemaker, Final words are said concluding the story.
Epilogue
Would be similar to the final epilogue with two differences; the absence of Moon's love triangle since that wasn't established (Moon and Qibli's relationship would probably be established in Darkness of Dragons in this case) and Winter and Kinkajou reminiscing on her crush on him.
In my ideal sequence a revisited arc 2 book order goes:
Moon's book; I honestly wouldn't change much, I think it's fine as it is. Maybe a few touch-ups here and there, but overall it works out basically the same. The one significant change is that Alongside Carnealian have Umber killed too (or put them in a coma if you think that's too far); that way it justifies why he doesn't show up for the rest of the series and you can have Sora spiral even further down her villain arc (if you couldn't tell, I thought Sora was pretty lackluster for an antagonist).
Kinkajou's book: the problem is she doesn't really have much of an arc in the main series, so we'd have to find some kind of inner conflict for her, I'm leaning towards dealing with PTSD from when she'd been kidnapped by NightWings last arc. As for the plot you could do a little more with how Icicle is trying to get Glory in the original Book 7 and Kinkajou feels like she has to protect her. I'm still workshopping it. Also here you could set up her romance with Turtle so it doesn't feel like it comes out of the blue like in Book 9; you could have the reveal that Turtle is an animus here too, because that scene in Escaping Peril felt pretty contrived if you ask me.
Winter's book: it's not too different from the original plot of Winter Turning, except the Rainforest section was already covered in Kinkajou's book. Here the first part would be him finding Hailstorm, the second would be the Ice Kingdom and the Dimond trial, and the third part would him returning to his friends and defeat Chameleon (He was such a wasted villain imo) though Scarlet slips away once again. In this version when they get their hands on the scroll and start arguing it's Turtle who destroys the scroll because he understands how dangerous it is.
Qibli's book: I think Qibli is far more suited to detective work than Turtle, so that's why I place this book here. We has to He still has a lot of his character backstory from Darkness of Dragons, but Instead of frolicking off to the Sand Kingdom it's accomplished via flashbacks. In the present Qibli is slowly figuring out what Darkstalker is planning without letting him catch on (here he doesn't have the invisibility stick because I think that was a stupid plot device which for the most part removed any direct danger Turtle would've been in for 99% of the book), and towards the end realizes their thought process is so similar that he's one bad decision away from becoming like Darkstalker himself, that way the character development from DoD is preserved. Also putting Qibli's book here forces Tui to address the love triangle now instead of putting it off till the last minute like in the main canon.
Turtle's book: basically take Darkness of Dragons, scratch out the first act with the Onyx subplot, and replace it with the last act of Talons of Power. This way the pacing flows much better, Anemone's redemption doesn't feel tacked on, and there's none of that stupid love triangle dragging down the book. Turtle I think would make a far better rival for Darkstalker as he's the only one who can realistically stand up to the big bad. In this version Turtle's been struggling with temperance by using his gift responsibly the whole arc, and now he has to step up and fix the mess he made by destroying the scroll. Maybe you could up the stakes by having Scarlet try to get in on this Darkstalker business? Also put a bit more focus on the IceWing Plague since that felt more like an afterthought in the main canon, and have his defeat be an entire group effort from *all* the previous protagonists, not just an intervention with only Qibli, Moon, Kinkajou, and Foeslayer.
The last thing I wanna say to Tui is that you need to work on when you set something up you better be prepared to deliver on it, because arc 2 had a big problem with introducing a new subplot everytime you turned around only to get distracted by a shiny and leave it dangling till the last minute.

I’m just gonna say it: Winter and Turtle had incomplete character arcs and were severely wasted opportunities in the story.
*Actually I'm gonna say even more now:*
Scarlet deserved a MUCH more "thrilling" death than getting her neck snapped in a royal challenge for a throne she already lost. I get that Peril couldn't kill her due to preserving her character development, but they could've had Scarlet's arena prisoner survivors tear her apart in her own arena that was turned into a hospital for a more poetic death.
Vulture was introduced way too late and had so much more potential but was sadly the most wasted opportunity in a villain.
Using magic to turn Darkstalker into a baby with no memories was the most anticlimatic ending possible.

My favorite arc so far (only read the 1st two) and I love Darkstalker Legends. I do have to say that Turtle and Winter had some lost potential (especially Winter) and it would have been nice to seen more, but not a lot where it's annoying.

Qibli’s and Turtle’s books would have worked much better as a part 1 and part2 that swapped between multiple both of their PoVs.
Darkness of Dragons is the only book of the main series that starts behind where the previous book left off (excluding prologues).
All the other books start right after the previous book ends, or at most a few weeks/months after.
Ok I feel like Winter's character growth just goes off and on in Arc 2. In Moon Rising ofc he's angry, aggressive Winter. In Winter Turning he says that his winglet is like his own small tribe. So good, some character growth right? Nahhhhhhh, In Escaping Peril and Talons of Power he feels like he's semi Book 6, Semi Book 7. And in Darkness of Dragons his apology to Qibli shows his growth again, but later on he confronts Moon aggressively again just like in Moon Rising (Aka where he started before all that character growth happened). It really feels like it just turns off and on and never really sticks, at least in The Dangerous Gift his character growth actually stays and doesn't turn off and on mid book. I think it's still my favorite Arc and I say it's an 8.75375/10.
Btw I have a theory that Darkstalker was controlling more of everything, his own puppet show were he wanted everything would grow like back 2000 years ago and no one knew, except Arctic and Indigo, if you wanna hear it let me know
Finally, someone who agrees with me that Peril's book is amazing.
I liked it for a different reason though. I don't actually remember that much about plot or char development. I liked the way it makes us really think about Peril's predicament with her severe lack of credit and trust and its implications in real life.
I honestly think it would be very, very interesting if Qibli accepted Darkstalker's offer in book 10.. Would he actually kill Darkstalker in an animus battle? Would he use his powers for good, evil, or both? Would Qibli and Darkstalker become allies? Would Qibli use his magic to make everything better after Darkstalker is killed or would he be driven into insanity by his soul being turned evil????

Peril and Moon is my favorite
My favorite part of book 6 was the mystory as to Darkstalker's true motivations and morality. He's such a master manipulater, that he broke the 4th wall and had me thinking maybe he wasn't so bad.
Wings of charcoal says the he likes how the characters drive the story. In book 5, the brightest night, the story completely drives her. The story itself does more then sunny herself. I thinks it’s a good book, but there are things I would change.
Good points on all of those. One thing I can appreciate on Qibli's book is that at least there was SOMETHING going on with him while Turlte was spying on Darkstalker (As part one of Darkness of Dragons an Part 2 onwards of Talons of Power happen simultaneously, and the book would have been far more boring if Qibli had remained at Jade Mountain idle during that time).
We just have to wait a few more days for this.
Only reason arc 2 isn’t my favorite is because of Darkstalker. I feel like he had a lot of potential but it was wasted. He could have been extremely interesting, but instead he is just an annoying spoiled brat who couldn’t be stopped. This is my opinion, ofc.

I haven't read Darkstalker or Dragonslayer yet to be honest. The entire series still makes sense without them, but I bet reading them would add a lot of information and character development to major characters and events in the series that I don't know about because I have not read those books.
Darkstalker is just his backstory but also has the seawing royal massacre and arctic's death and his relationship with his family he loves his sister whiteout and foeslayer hates arctic clearsight was his love interest fathom is his friend that wants to learn from him I like fathom and indigo's relationship and the happy ending in the epiloge
And dragonslayer is absolutely pointless absolutely boring and just to forgettable the only thing I remember is wern and sky's relationship and that's it

Personally, my favourite Arc is Arc 1. It has a much darker tone than the rest of the series. No other book outside of Arc 1 (with the obvious and major exception of Legends: Darkstalker) has captured the same amount of dark tones, deep themes and gore.
Arc two is the best arc imo
I re read winter turning recently, ok that was a like I re read it in may, and I thought it was bad beftore and and not much change, and I just love how dramatic music played when Darkstalker happened.

I love book 9!
I've read all 17 of the Wings of Fire books that are (I think) published. The 3 arcs, 5 books each, and the 2 supereditions. I enjoyed arcs 1 and 2, and I liked books 11-13 and the Darkstalker superedition. I was ambivalent towards book 14 and the Dragonslayer superedition. Book 15, though, encouraged me to stop reading the series at that book. The "reveal" that the breath of evil plant had its own consciousness and was controlling Queen Wasp and, by extension, all of the Hivewings. I thought Queen Wasp's ability to control other dragons via "her venom" was so cool and was a nod to the handful of parasitic wasps that can control other insects. The fact that the plant was controlling the dragons, not the parasitic ruler of the Hivewings, destroyed my enjoyment of the arc. Suddenly the conflict wasn't dragons vs dragons, but dragons vs some magical plant.
I think the biggest issue with Arc 2, despite still being good, is it's commitment to its formula of switching it's protagonist in each book.
Though the formula has lead to each character standing out in their book, it doesn't really mesh well with the overall plot of Arc 2 and it really started to get stale with each POV switch feeling somewhat arbitrary rather than cohesive. By focusing so exclusively in giving each book their respective character focused stories, it has lead to several issues such as poor pacing, overuse of filler and side plots being disconnected from the main plot.
It has also lead to probably the worst flaw of side lining it's previous protagonists in favour of the current protagonist in their book which makes them come across as flat or even act out of character which harms their long term character growth after their book (With Winter being the biggest offender in this regard).
While Arc 1 has some of the same issues, it made it up by having the structure compliment both the plot and characters with each book focused on their respective protagonist exploring both their origins and place in the prophecy. This made each book feel like a logical step in the overall narrative of ending the war of Sandwing succession. This does not apply much to Arc 2.
Overall, as individual character driven stories, Arc 2 excels in this and is so far the best in providing this in the entire series. But as an overall arc wide plot, Arc 2 really struggles in this regard.
If marsh went with Sora instead of umber I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO GET A BOOK . I would give peril a winglet that’s like 210 pages so it’s shorter e like a winglet and umber can get book 8 . Remember this is all my opinion
I feel like both dogs doctor and Dragonslayer, all the same for required reading granted I love Dragonslayer but that's mainly because I love sky, I read book 14 first in fact the only reason I even read dragon slayer at all it's because sky was in it, just like darkstalker you can get the gist of what's going on without having to eat the book
I just finished book 9 and it's my least favorite one. I love book 6 and 7 equally and book 8 it's good, had an annoying start but it got better has Peril became less Clay obsessed.

I honestly think dark stalker is the best villain of the series, I think it's because unlike the other villains he's not in it for himself he think that what he's doing is for the best of everyone else he thinks that what he's doing is good and genuinely helping others he thinks he's a genuinely good person, more interesting to me than bill and his selfish and only in it for themselves so which is what queen wasp and queen Scarlet is someone who's selfish and just looking out for themself, darkstalker thinks that what he's doing is the best of everyone else things that he's the only one who has everyone else's best interest at heart and that's more interesting
I honestly found it scary how casually he used his powers, and how many he had. Dude was flinging out superstrength amulets like bread crumbs, and there was pretty much nothing the protagonists could do.
um... I really loved book 7, Winter is like my favorite character

I like how winter saves starflight from icicle and moon from sharpshifer and Qibly from a harpoon and hailstorm from scarlet and qibly from drowning in sand and foeslayer from the trial AND crystal from snowfall yet he is still under appreciated and tui does him dirty in book 10
I don’t get why people think Winter was done dirty at the end of Arc 2. He got exactly what he needed for himself: he was free from the corrupting ways of his tribe and able to live a better life studying scavengers in peace away from rankings. For anyone who thinks Winter needed Moon or Qibli to fall in love with him in order to be happy and fix all his problems, you’re sorely mistaken. Time alone to reflect and rebuild himself was the best thing for him. That’s exactly what he got and by Book 14 he was all better.

You seem to be letting Winter off the hook for a lot of things but not on his peers.

I’d say read darkstalker legends after moon rising, and you honestly don’t need to read dragon slayer, unless you want a bit of context to why “Queen Oasis was killed by a scavenger” and wren and sky of course, but nothing else really matters until book 14-15 and maybe book 5? I honestly need to reread the series

Personally I don't think that interesting, I think the third ox trail villain is very very interesting considering it's not wasp it's a plant that's controlling wasp and dark stalker like I said I'm only thinks that he's a good person and if you ask him why are you being evil he would deny that he is and counter with what I'm doing is helping others and I think that's very interesting, I will say she's more interesting than what but wasp isn't the main villain of the third Rock she's very minor and she does her job well as a puppet
arc 1 is probbaly the best arc, arc 2 is messy and had way too many ships, like what happened there, meanwhile arc 1 had a nice goal

Moon Rising was boring.
Winter Turning was unpleasant on account of Winter being a xenophobic a**hole.
Escaping Peril was fantastic, with some of the best writing to come out of the entire series.
I didn't like Legends: Darkstalker because of the alternating points of view.
Talons of Power was also boring.
Cut the fluff, Darkness of Dragons! Not to mention the introduction of Luna at the end felt tagged on at the last minute.
All in all, Arc 2 is a nice followup to the first one, but lacks the foresight, continuity and consistency of the first arc.
Winter Turning is underrated... Although I can see why it's the worst book in the arc... My IceWing friend made some very tough decisions in that book; like abandoning his tribe after being placed at #1 in the First Circle of the IceWings...

Wow I thought the exact opposite. Darkness Of Dragons had a lot of flaws but it was still really great, and Moon Rising was phenomenal from beginning to end, in my opinion at least.

@@TrickyTalon23 so I liked moon rising the first time reading, but the second time I found moon a bit annoying on how shy and anxious she was, darkness of dragons was kind of hard to enjoy because it’s kind of a filler and I wish there was a huge battle in the end rather than just darkstalker eating a strawberry, the book was kind of boring in general
