I can speak on reason number 4 even though it’s a stupid thing for people to do: Whenever people park next to nicer cars than the ones they own, they typically use the car in itself as a reference point to remember where they parked. Especially in cases where there’s a big number of cars in a confined space. It’s easier to remember that you parked next to a purple Lamborghini than it is to remember parking next to a white Corolla.

I have an idea : have 3 cars , a lambo and 2 corolla , park the lambo at an empty spot , wait for someone to park next to lambo and get inside the building
Move the lambo to the somewhere random but vague enough that they get confused. Box their car in with 2 corollas on either side.
Kind of good troll idea ?

For number 4, one reason I've heard is that people with higher end cars are less likely to recklessly yank open their door and scrape up your car. Basically, by parking next to a more expensive car, the odds decrease that the owner of said car will end up damaging yours. Whether this is true or not is up for debate.

In caveman terms: Car have ac, car have heat. Car protect from outside elements, Car provide space of solitude. Car have audio system. Car seats comfortable. Y no eat in car?
Nah fr tho, if you have a spacious/comfortable enough interior and clean up after eating i dont see whats so weird about it. I sometimes chill in my impala's backseats. I even see some people say its depressing(?) I say its a vibe to eat and listen to my music rather than eating outside or alone in a public space.

I've got an anecdote for all of these; 1. The only time I can think of eating in my car in recent memory was right before a roadtrip with some family. We got fast food right around the corner, then traveled to another state right after (it was just convenient to eat, then drive after). 2. (This one is a bummer) My dad used to start our car in the winter, then leave it unattended for 5-10 minutes to warm the engine up before going anywhere. My mom picked up this habit from him, and one time she did this (after my dad passed away) someone jumped into her SUV and tried to steal it right out of the driveway. Thankfully, she managed to get the guy out of the vehicle with only a broken tooth. All the more reason to not leave your vehicle on unattended. 3. My friend at work is trying to save up money to get a daily driver, so I drive him home often. We usually chat for a few minutes while I'm parked outside his house (he lives with other people, and his driveway is usually full). We work third shift, so when we get off work, school busses are often out. I put my hazards on while dropping him off, so busses aren't stuck behind me. 4. My dad used to drive a '78 Camaro, and he also used to have people park next to him for whatever reason (he also deliberately parked away from other people).

I don't do 4 exclusively, but the reason I like parking next to nice cars is because I think it's the funniest shit. Like there would be a $100k Mercedes, a $200k BMW, and then a 20 year old metallic-green clown car that's not even worth as much as their phones parked next to them.

A lot of the things I do related to cars are very similar to yours. I haven't got the opportunity to buy my own first car, so I normally use my parents. My country is notorious for having bikers, especially careless ones. When you mentioned you park your car far away in a quiet place away from everyone, that really hit me because I do exactly that! I don't want some random person just coming by and scratching/damaging my car because they really have nothing to lose. This and many other reasons are why I have fallen In-love with your content and have been watching you for years now! I hope you never stop making these videos as us younger generation are dependent on the more experienced generation(that is you guys) for all the car wisdom. Love you all the way from Pakistan!

I could see how it is annoying but at the same time people usually park near nicer cars for a couple of reasons like its easier to remember where they parked and usually owners of the nicer cars drive more carefully so the other car dosent have to worry about someone's 8 year old slamming a car door into theirs.

my theory for number 4, is possibly, but unlikely, the idea that if someone were to steal a car from the parking lot, theyd pick the nice one that youre parked to, instead of yours. cuz why would they steal a 500$ beater when theres a high-end mercedes-benz right there?

In my country people leave their car idling to warm it up if it's really cold outside. It's not good for the engine to let it cool down and heat up again + it drains the battery. Also most cars come with two or more keys so you can use a spare one to lock the doors from the outside.

1 and 2 were things i did when my job was landscaping
1: eat in the truck because it is cooler inside of it, and because you typically don't have time to sit down and eat somewhere. you have 30 lawns to mow and 2 days to do it, so you gotta be on the move
2: keeping the truck on during short lawns/going into a store quickly was common especially since we had a way to lock the door (spare key, key fob). much nicer to go into a nice cool truck after 20+ minutes in the 120 degree humid ass oklahoma summers.
the rest i never did but old habits die hard

I like when cars that are related park next to each other, but otherwise I park where it's quieter. I don't want to park where nobody else is parking only to come back to find some grubby minivan parked right next to me. Keep at least a space free if possible so whoever leaves first can just swing out without slamming into the side of the other car or having to back out straight for half the reverse

    • @MuscleCarLover
      @MuscleCarLover 6 місяців тому +1

I have another trait that might be seen as weird. If someone parked too close for comfort, I'll literally hold the part of my door that sticks out furthest with my fingers so that if my fingers make contact with the car next to me, I know that's as far as the door will go and try to slide myself in while still holding the door. So if you ever park next to me and find like 3 or 4 finger marks on your door, it's because I didn't want my door to touch it. I can't stand people that willingly lets their door bang against the neighbouring car

Speaking on number 2. I don't know about other places like Texas and Florida but where I live in Wyoming most people do it because it's freezing outside. Most people here know that if they turn there car off even for a few moments that all the time they spent warming the inside of their car will be negligible if they turn it off for a few moments. People are starting to go more towards remote starts and keyless fobs for that. My stepdad installs remote starts that if the key is not in the ignition and in the on position as soon as you put your foot on the brake the car turns off. Helps if people try to take off in your car. Can't put it in drive and steering is still locked. As soon as you put your key in and in the on position no problem.

The grease buildup from, natural oils/dead skin, oily foods, dirt/grime, and makeup, will coat the steering wheel, shifter, and knobs. It’s nasty, and seeing cars with major buildup wasn’t uncommon.

As someone who does the first three I can tell you that sometimes it's made a habit simply due to the nature of work. I do delivering driving primarily formerly a Pizza Hut but also now for DoorDash and most of those are just time-saving measures that helps you get that next order a little bit faster. Eating in the car lets be honest I work 12 hours in a row usually more when doing DoorDash sometimes it's just so busy you don't have time to just like actually sit down and eat in a proper restaurant because then you'll miss out on money sometimes you just got to go. I don't eat while the vehicle is in motion it's usually like a quick bite while a stoplight is up and usually something that is like one-handed food. Fun fact In-N-Out burgers are built with this idea in mind which is why they are wrapped the way they are You can eat in In-N-Out Burger with one hand only.
The second one is mostly again just time saving so he can hop back into the car and you know just immediately go on your way. Note i did have things like remote killswitches installed on the car and More importantly I only do this when I have a direct line of sight to my vehicle since the one I have is incredibly close range as in if it doesn't detect the key in the ignition it will automatically shut off Yes it's one of those idle systems. And the reason why I say specifically in line of sight is because I live in a place where open carry is a thing so that awkward there's somebody in the car when I see it shut off is not as awkward when you can just tell the people inside to call the police and then just hold the guy there until they arrive.
The third one pretty much the same reason as that though also there are additional caveats that sometimes there just isn't places to park in some of these deliveries or say I'm in a relatively crowded neighborhood for example where there isn't like a lot of road to maneuver around and I just need to let people know hey go around me if you have the space because I need to just drop something off here real quick. Best example in practice I had of that one was recently a two-way street with only one per each side with a set of double yellow lines and the house is parked in that area with no parking anywhere close to where I'm supposed to deliver how am I supposed to deliver to that without walking like half a mile to do it? Fortunately for me on that one some police officers were willing to give me a hand by just having their lights on both in front and behind me around the curve so people would know hey we've got something going on pay attention. Some areas as well out here also have loading areas which also allows us to basically say hey we're currently loading right now when we have the hazards on because when we take them off then people know we're trying to leave at that point.

  • @Foxtrot_Woof

I will leave my car running to run into the gas station on my way to work for 2 reasons.
    1. I'm in the midwest and it is often below freezing with feet of snow on the ground and still snowing. Leaving it running while quickly running in often helps the car to warm up, defrost, keeps the oil warm, gets the heater finally working, etc... Basically all the same reason why you go outside and start your car (or remote start if you have a non-stickshift car) 10-15 before you are ready to leave.
    2. I now work literally 2 miles from work, with a gas station in between. Short trips where the car never gets up to temperature to burn off condensation etc is extremely hard on an engine. By leaving it running when I run into the gas station to grab breakfast int he morning, it allows the engine to fully heat cycle by the time I get to work.
Also this is waaaay more common in cold and snowy climates than it ever was when I lived down south.

Being I'm from Florida, most of us leave the car on because it keeps the AC running and the sun hear gets your car frying on the inside the second you turn it off

Personally for leaving the car running (FL boy here) i keep it on when i need the AC running. If i have groceries food etc that i dont want to melt or get hot.. during the summer the car will get hot in 30 seconds so sometimes if its gonna be 2 mins or less ill leave it running and lock it.

I don't know if anyone's had this thought before but the reason why i eat inside my car is that i get nervous if i eat outside where there's people.

Regarding eating in your car, it's mostly out of convenience. I sometimes need to do 2 hour droves to somewhere and I don't have the time to stop and eat inside, so I eat in my car.
With that said, it also depends on the car. I might eat on a Nissan but I wouldn't eat on an Audi car.

European here: yes, people here eat in their cars just as much.
Difference is though (at least here in the Netherlands) we do it not because we're lazy, but because we feel like we don't have the time.
It's so bad that we swapped dinner and lunch so that we can just bring home-made sandwiches to work because taking the time during work to eat warm food is frowned upon.
