This was from those Load/Reload shows. I was there in february of 97 and scene it live plus I have a vhs bootleg I bought back in the day for like $30 bucks. It wasn't my show but it was close enough. Same set list, same stage setup and all that.
It wasn't for the movie. This was just part of the show for that tour. I saw it myself in Toronto. Was a great show, and happened nearly identical to this one. Freaked me out too at the time cuz I had no clue what was planned. I quickly realized it was just part of the show.
saw the show in vancouver. yes, the same thing happened. yes we werent sure at the time if it was real or fake. although i thought if it were faked then it would have been more dramatic. we couldnt see anyone fall down like you could here next to the stage. but the big clue is the next song played was "Hit the lights" which i thought was pretty ironic. awesome show like usual from these guys. easily the biggest stage and prop performance ive evern seen. cant wait for the DVD. see em live !!
You could tell it was setup before the truss sections started falling, but when you see them flexing and bending like aluminum doesn't do you know it's a gag ;).
We were playing in a Chinese restaurant once and the owner was yelling “ to loud to loud “, well we obviously ignored him, so after his third time asking to turn it down, he shut off the power to the stage… but me being the drummer kept playing while yelling out “ you can’t turn me off “ lol 😂
For kids who never had a chance to see it originally. Imagine, that was sixteen years ago. Many kids there were way to young to see it live. Some were not born yet...
At a gig at the LA Forum, I think 2005 during For Whom the bell tolls a piece of scaffolding or something fell next to Kirk and James and they just looked at each other like This song is fitting...
this was for the filming of Through the Never. so can you please change the Title of this to something like "Through the Never Live Concert" or "Real Concert for Through the Never Film". something like that. thank you. this title is misleading and false.
I was lucky enough to have seen this. I guess they play a few different accoustic tracks when they come back out but I heard Creeping Death and it was effin amazing.
Cool stunt, but it was obviously a stunt. 1. The guy that fell from the truss onto the stage wouldn't fall to the stage, his safety line would have caught him. 2. People on fire don't jog to put out the flames. 3. The band/techs wouldn't need to use the mic on the stage, the stage manager's headset can do that. 4. A smart tech wouldn't crouch directly over a hole in the stage that smoke is coming out of. 5. A truss doesn't fall apart like that, all of it would have crushed everyone on stage and wouldn't be falling apart and falling piece by piece. But it was pretty cool and I give them props for how well the fire looked on the light tower that the guy was climbing on.
Everyone noticed them. Unless youre a complete and utter tool. Its obvious but its all for film. It wasnt for the show. If you watch the movie it looks real
OMG, just watched this, high AF and didn't know what to think!! Was excited to see it was in Edmonton, my home town and puzzled as to why the stage was falling apart and a guy on fire. Thought it was real lol
Metallica has had their stage fall apart since 1988 it's all part of the show and it's not just for a movie like people are saying in the comments and I was there and I've seen them five times and they always do this and people always think that there's an accident and there isn't it's great showmanship.
something tells me this was all a setup and not real i mean come n guys do you think a guy would be that stupid as to sit on the pyro and i have seen this stunt from tait towers
+Ronnie Schirrman I knew it Those movers didn't have any cables and that guy had flame resistant clothes on and the rigger wouldn't of come down to the stage his barb is would of caught him half way down so he would be hanging

People wondering if it was a fake... Of course it was. Does this really look like a real accident?
they were filming this for the movie i think
Josh Bachelder
Maybe. But they have done this on some other gigs too. It's just a part of their stage show.
MaggaraMarine the earliest I've seen them do it was during their Justice tour. On a smaller scale, of course. haha. Not personally, but on video.
Josh Bachelder you are correct. From what I have heard they wanted to outdo the "accident" that happened during their Cunning Stunts show.
Lukas Fechner this time it wasn't, Through the Never was filmed in Vancouver not Edmonton.
Such a shame that "Hit the Lights!" Went unappreciated and unnoticed
Good one XD
