- David Hasselhoff sings the theme to The Young and the Restless (Nadia's Theme) live on Merv in 1977. Before Knight Rider and Baywatch made him famous he played a doctor on the soap opera "The Young and the Restless." Merv Griffin had over 5000 guests appear on his show from 1963-1986. I never thought I would see the Knight Rider sing this beautiful song, this is so awesome!
I have always loved the theme from the soap opera, but I didn’t realize it had words until I recently discovered this version by David.

There was a movie out before the Young are the Restless that they based this soap on and for the life of me I can't find it 🤷♀️I believe it was in the theaters. They used this song. Now I'm going to have to research it AGAIN. 😮 50 PLUS years ago.
He was 25 years old in this interview!! Oh my God! What a great career. Beautiful voice. A full artist.... so the show's intro had lyrics.

I love his recorded version, which is much better than this live version, though. I used to look for the lyrics of that song for quite a long time, when I found Davids' version on his album, "Lovin Feelings", IIRC.

Hasselhoff has a voice for musical theatre. That's not a criticism, it's a very good theatrical voice, rather than a pop career.

He is wildly popular in Germany as a pop singer.
He made a killing in Germany with his pop music, so why not do it… why sing for free in a America when you can get paid well for it overseas.
Maximum respect to the Hoff for managing to monetise his weaker talents… lol… he did the same thing with his acting too! He never made it to the big screen. But he milked millions from a few successful tv shows.

This song was actually called "Cotton's Theme" when it was created in the early 70's, and in fact was credited as such on "The Young and the Restless" theme song. In 1976, ABC Sports did a montage for then-global sensation Nadia Comăneci from Romania, the gymnast who set a lot of records at the time. After Flip Wilson did a retrospective hour about Nadia, with this song playing throughout, the name was changed from it's original ("Cotton's Them") to Nadia's Theme, re-released, and because the 8th top selling song of the year.
I thought Nadia used it as the music for her performance at the 1972 Olympics.
But you are right, it wasn't called Nadia's theme at first.

She is in her early 60s currently and defected to the United States in 1989 after the Communist cave-in in Romania and left her gold medals that she later got back. She married American gymnast Bart Conner.

I forgot about this that David hasselhoff sang the theme from Young and the restless and if I remember correct he was sitting next to Shelley Winters Shelley Winters used to be on Roseanne Barr she played the Aunt to Roseanne David hasselhoff remind me of David Cassidy they have the same voice the song just like so good music I forgot they had words to it I'm just used to the music from the TV show so good luck and God bless you and thank you for the memories I forgot about the Marvin Griffin show thanks for the Wisconsin🎉

OMG, I sooooo missed my oldest sister watching this! In those days, my sister was a young housewife and she watched this daytime show everyday. I remembered that during this period, David Hasselhoff played a character in this show too.
