"Nadia's Theme" is a piece of music composed by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr. that serves as the theme music to the American television soap opera The Young and the Restless.
The melody, originally titled "Cotton's Dream," was composed, and lyrics were written for it, by De Vorzon and Botkin Jr. as incidental music for the 1971 theatrical film Bless the Beasts and Children. Two years later, Botkin Jr. composed a rearranged version of the music for The Young and the Restless; the show debuted on March 26, 1973. The melody was later renamed "Nadia's Theme" after the ABC television network Wide World Of Sports lent the music for a montage of Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci's routines during the 1976 Summer Olympics; but Nadia never performed her floor exercises using this piece of music. Instead, she used a piano arrangement of a medley of the songs "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "Jump in the Line."
About one month after the 1976 Olympics, the song was released as a single by A&M Records, with its B-side containing an instrumental of De Vorzon's song "Down the Line."
The recording was identical to "Cotton's Dream," with a repeat from the bridge to the end edited in to lengthen the piece. It soared up to number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by December 1976, in part because of its association with Comaneci. However, A&M Records failed to credit De Vorzon as the co-writer on the first pressings of the single; he successfully sued the record label for $241,000 USD. The single was never actually released on CD till Eric Records included it on the CD Hard-To-Find Orchestral Instrumentals.
My mother loved this song... I wish I could bring her back....
I don't know why, but this miraculous song makes me very sad and also peace in the same time..............
I agree. I used to become emotionally inconsolable when i heard this as a child
Like i was going to be abandoned by my mother
For me it's melancholic but also a bit creepy. I think it's the weird chords.
Eveline, that feeling is called "Goldenshadow" (also Saudade).
At the end of the movie when they make it away from all the bad shyt
@@jessica23claire Same with "Days Of Our Lives" and "The Edge Of Night".
My mama loved the Young and the Restless. Just hearing this brings me to tears. She passed away in 2016, I was only 35 with 2 little babies. How sad, what a ride my life has been. She loved Victor and Nikki.
Aww! :(
I feel for you. My Mom passed in 2022, and there are a lot of songs that make me think of her. Especially Christmas carols and hymns.
But I love Nadia's Theme, and nearly drove her up the wall with it when I was growing up.
This melody is sad and lifting at the same time. Very emotional. My mother learned to speak English from watching the young and the restless in the 70's . My earliest memory was 2 years old, listening to the theme song come on channel 2 in nyc. I miss my mother beyond belief a hole in my heart 💔 where my parents should be will never be replaced. My father died in 2013 and ten months later my mother. What great memories of her love and kindness as played together and watched this soap. This music is legendary.
I couldn't stand my mother's soap operas when i was a kid.... but I always stuck around to hear this song - even when I was totally consumed with heavy metal in my teens. It's a beautiful, timeless piece of music.
I don't know what made me think about it and look it up tonight... so many memories.
I remember coming home with this song. Good times, no technology. We were much closer then, wish I could turn back time.
U got a DeLorean and some plutonium?
Well said. Same memory with this great piece of music
Ahh.. the sweet sound of my childhood.
I can see myself walking into the bedroom in the early morning as a young girl and seeing my mom laying on the couch with the television on, watching The Young and the Restless.. what a time to remember.
That's Beautiful 💝
To my dear Mother, your song. Thank you for the love and comfort you gave ❤️
This is what heaven must sound like.
Preach!
When I was young and restless, this powerful piece of music haunted my soul whenever it was played on TV, I felt sad and desperate, it touched my heart so deep that sometimes I began to soak in tears when the first few music notes started to play, cos I didn't know who I am and where I am heading to, I only found peace of mind when I met Jesus Christ later and released my burden. Only the love of Christ could salvage my restless mind and make me know my destiny. I have no regret since then. Praise the Lord and thank you Jesus.
Thats great love hearing that!

This song reminds of my Mother. Brings tears every time I hear it.
Aww.
My great grandmother used to watch this with me, and now here I am..46 years old still loving it
I am 44, my mother is still watching it today, it's been a part of my whole life ❤️
This theme is so beautiful 🎶🎶❤️
I agree. It inspired me to take music seriously enough to become a pianist.
Heard this every day on TV in the mid 1970s
Will always remind me of my wonderful mother. We have been watching The Young and the Restless for many many years. My mom Iris 💛passed away a year ago and I miss her like crazy. 🌹 ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🇹🇹❤️🇹🇹❤️
I wouldn't give two cents for this or any other soap, but this piece of music is timeless perfection.
A simple '' HELLO '' could lead to a million things.
♥= Never underestimate the value of a penny.''=♥
Well said.
~♥Happy Birthday♥~
I have been always a sucker for Strings/ Orchestras and this hits all cylinders for me.
"Join us again, for the Young... And... The Restless." - Y&R 1990's closing credits
stay tuned for search for tommrow on most of these CBS stations
Tonight on the CBS evening news with Dan Rather lol
Tune in again Monday for the Young and the Restless... stayed tuned for the Guiding Light next on most of these CBS stations.
Heard this at my grandma's house everyday when I was a kid.
This song is deep...no words needed!
But, there is a vocal version. And there is a clip of David Hasselhoff on the Merv Griffin vocalizing this version.
Very true.
so beautiful... that takes me to the memory lane of my childhood....... That can't be explained..
No I totally get it. My mom watched Y&Rand the sound meant she'd turned the tv to it and was doe with her housework. I found it soothing and it meant to me all was right and as it should be.
Romit Singh yes
I so agree where are the flood of memories in my mind
My aunt passed away and this was her favorite song to play on the piano. I started playing piano a while ago and later found the sheet music for this in her things. I can’t wait to finally learn it.
Such a nice way to remember her.
The greatest songs and music never die, they are replayed again and again.
Gosh this reminds me of my gran when I was little and skipped school with her. It would be tea and The Young and the Restless. Great memories.
This song brings back magical memories. Oh to be young again.
And "Restless" as Well, eh..? 😊
Sad 😔 to happy 😊 happy 😃 to sad 😢..... music truly evokes emotions 🖤
Memories of my mama when I was just a little girl in '74...lost my husband in 2020 and this is the song that plays in my memory of him.
This song always takes me back to 1976 watching Nadia's performances...one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever!
It doesn't get much better than this.
Still beautiful after all this time - The music of Henry Mancini so captured the love we all had for Nadia Comeneci.
Except it's not Henry Mancini --- it's Barry Devorzon & Perry Botkin Jr.
This song reminds me of my grandmother.
Till this day I still hear this in my grandma's room, this song never gets old.
My mom watched almost all the soaps but YR was her #1. This is the only soap theme song I remember and will never forget.
I still get chills thinking about hearing this while growing up in the 90s, when this and other TV shows actually had short and long closing credits. Loved hearing this play over the credits back then!
Truly the most beautiful piano song ever written and played ❤
Henry Mancini is Great music. I'm a one man band on youtube.
It's definitely among the top for me. It comes in with Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata, one of Schubert's Impromptu's, and Chopin's Ocean Etude.
This musical score is haunting . It brings back bitter sweet memories of my young days
Still incredible today to listen to...
Not a day went by in my aunt Charity and uncle Harold's life where they weren't listening to this watching their "stories"... wow such memories of my childhood
I never knew my grandmothers..both died before I was born..This song makes me cry..
this melody reminds me of my Mother,,,,,she loved this number.....
I use to Play piano and this was my favorite song to play! Inspired me to get a key board and relearn after 40 years
This show was on one of the three channels we could pick up in the sticks of rural Nebraska. I liked it because of the music and it was actually the first song I learned to play by ear with a penny-whistle at the age of 12
Haunting, peaceful, emotional, beautiful...PERFECT!
My dear Mother loved this song. I miss her so much❤️
Connie..I know how you feel, and wish that I could tell her thank you for giving me life.
My grandma and my mom were addicted to TYATW..you were not to bother them during their "stories"..I miss them both more than words can express
Join us again for The Young and the Restless
Never watched this, but my friend's mother always did. We'd be over at her house and every day, at 4:00, this would flow through the house. Takes me back 30 years!!
+waivedwench A better time, indeed.
waivedwench p
Oh I can't stop listening to it, it's so beautiful
When inner peace feels like this sounds to the heart. you are doing very well within your soul.
Wow! I could listen to this song all day and night.
70s kids: OMG I heard this every day at Grandma's!
2k10s kids: OMG I heard this every day at Grandma's!
It's... Still... ON!!
Lmfao
LOL RIGHT
Same but mom and at home
Such a powerful piece, yes, something from a long lost time when we were kids. They had this as background music for a wake of a high school friend of many of us. Popular, a good guy, loved. We all did stupid things but he risked too much drinking and driving with a friend, they crashed into a cement post, his friend survived, George didn't. Terrible, tragic, just 17, I will never forget the grief at that funeral and seeing his older brother openly weeping.
That was my mom's favorite show, and I've remembered hearing the credits. Good times.
My favorite soap. I have been watching for 40+ years. Even met Jeanne Cooper 18 years ago.
One of my mothers favorites.thanks.
Never was a soaps fan but I love Mancini's music. :)
Mancini didn't write this.
Poor Mancini :))
Henry Mancini is great music. I'm a one man band on youtube.
@@derekchechak5371 But his version is the best of any by far.
@@JoinTheProgress This isn't his version; this is Barry Devorzon & Perry Botkin Jr.
Oh yes! I remember this old song back in the late 70&.
Nothing like a symphony orchestra to bring life to a TV show !
i always love it when they roll the credits so slow to see all the names full 3 mintues of all the hard working actors actress producers and much more
I have named this Daffodil's Theme in memory of my darling Daffodil who passed away in my hands 2017. RIP my darling Angel.
What a charming song ❤️
Take my brain back to the 70's at my mom house (rip)
my grandmother used watch young and the restless when she was alive i miss her
i use to come home from work...it was hustle. i lived in cabrini green hustle.. i would slap this song into my tape deck in 1985 in my room close my eyes pure tranquilty..melting away the stress like calgon.
Oh, yes this melody brings real happy memories of the good times I had ones upon a time in my life....
I'm ten years old again and it's 1979 and I'm home from school with the flu and I just finished watching The Price Is Right.
Brings back memories or watching this with my grandma when I was younger. Now she's young and restless up in Heaven.
I remember when the producers replaced this with a different opening theme then brought it back by popular demand.
I remember that too! Do you remember what year that was when it was changed? My husband likes this tune....he whistles along with it every time I watch the show. So I was telling him how there was a different theme song for a while and I was trying to find it on UA-cam so he could hear the other tune.....but I can't seem to find it anywhere! Does anyone know what year(s) the alternate theme song was used before they switched it back to this one? Thanks!
@@CUTSIE240 Its 1999 through 2003. Have him watch this video. It has it included in the video along with the other openings. ua-cam.com/video/fxb-GK0LGdM/v-deo.html
@@queensevilregal still on the Mancini theme but definitely different.
I used to watch this show god 30 yrs ago, with my mom, always liked "ashley Abbot".
Loved watching this with my grandma. She was a big fan!!!
my name is Nadia and i never knew it can be this beautiful...God,i'm honoured and proud..
The only piece of musical perfection ever love it!!!
i love this peace of music so much. i actually fell in love with the Y&R because of its splendid theme song!
What a beautiful song! Nadia Comaneci truly deserves it.
A music of peace
And love
the quiet ones and Hope
mark Brommer yes and hope thank you
And vice-verse.
that haunting piano chord... very scary and nostalgic
This song is SO EMOTIONAL. I don't know whether to cry or what!!!!
I LOVE THIS music 🎶 Best soap opera theme music of them ALL 🤔 Perhaps THATS part of the reason it’s STILL around
Just learned this on piano, I'm so tempted to ask my friend to learn this on his violin so we can play together
This song always made me feel emotional after the beginning of 2018 because of my Papa passing away from old age.
I don't know if he ever watched Y&R though. He was also a very good soldier in the U.S army. And my family loved and cared for him so much. He was very charming and funny guy and I still miss him so much... My Namo (his wife) is still trying to get over by the fact he's gone. And all the people who knew him and us will miss him in our lives. Until we meet him again someday..

I remember talking to my nana and I would hear this song playing in the background I 💕 it
My God... I absolutely love this kind of music... I want MORE of it! Deep beautiful and moving..
Strauss' Blue Danube
I THINK ABOUT 80S AND 90S NOW SO SAD WE CAN'T GO BACK IN TIME !!!!!!
Listening to this on March 1st 2020 10:40pm est. Good ole days
I love this music, I watched Y AND R with my mother and my grandmother, I remember this was played at a family friend's funeral too!!
Beautiful song
A timeless beautiful masterpiece that takes me back to a whole different and better simpler time.
I remember this theme as a child in the late 70s, early 80s from my mother. Also, another Mancini theme that brings me back to this time was Newhart. I wish there was a time machine, I miss those days!
This tune is exquisite. Grew up at my moms knee listening to this and always remember her loving the story of Katherine Chancellor and Jill Abbot and the feuding that ensued from their rivalry over Philip senior, then started watching on my own in the middle late 80s as the writer added Nina Webster to the mix. Miss the feud on the show between the Chancellor women, always my favorite storyline and those three talented actresses managing to keep it fresh over the decades. Since Jeanne Cooper’s passing several years ago they never took advantage of it and their history is rarely mentioned, a shame since the talented Jess Walton and the never utilized Tricia Cast (amazing!) were overlooked so that the Newman’s totally dominated the show now. Katherine’s legacy to the show should have been made eternal by an actual story and not just by bringing back the classic Chancellor sets (though I’m glad they did). Ohh well...But this song always brings the good old days roaring back to me. Love the Chancellor women... and still hopeful for the feuds return.
So long ago, but yet so vivid, the days of my youth.
Love Nadia's Theme, the theme song of my favorite daytime soap, The Young and the Restless, They're both a perfect match, Brilliant!!!!!!!
Memories of my gramma that just died at the age of 103 1/2. Thanks for letting me grow with you. I will always miss you. Best friends forever!💋💞
Finnally heard this song after decades remebering it .. before life took off --Born
in 1967 .
