Might be just me but not a huge fan of the owner asking you for a price when you ask him how much he wants for it. Like he owns the business. Why should you have to ask him the price over and over. If he is selling, he needs to throw out a number, or price his stuff accordingly and then you come to a deal. Idk. That would have annoyed me personally.

He had a brother that used to have a video game store in the same area, back in the day, called Gamebiz! Good guys, I've bought several items from them in the last few years! It's really the only true retro gaming store in Hot Springs area, so I hope they continue to do well.
This is kind of the same vibe you get at a gun store, like you’re trying really hard not to piss anyone off 😅…however, good video, and it was fun to see the retro items!
This is actually a very good deal. The xeye is about 600$? The virtua boy is about 600$ too. The nomad box is extremely rare can cost 500$ for a boxed version. You got yourself a good deal
Yes it is, loved seeing these two in the game chasers eps. I think they're just tired of people coming to the store and trying to get shit for nothing. I think rick was very polite and reasonable with them.
I’ve found going into a retro store with cash goes along ways in getting a good deal. Credit card companies really like to stick it to small businesses. Fun episode with some Game Chasing nostalgia!
Well it also means that you can't avoid forgetting it on your taxes. If you are paid cash, you can just pretend that you found that money and lost some consoles.
I mean, 2.7% isn't that huge of a deal, it's the taxes they are trying to avoid. 2.7% card fees on $1000 is only $27.00, it's the fact that taking that card puts it on the "books," is what they are REALLY trying to avoid.
Virtual Boy was kinda cool back in the day. I remember the game where you are flying through these weird cave systems. Couldn't play that thing for more than an hour without getting a headache from all those red lines.
@zachdelkus they were in series 1 quite a bit, Episode 26 "Living in a gaming paradise" i think was the first appearance, but possibly before that aswell.
I've been to that one in Conway about 10 years ago. It was pretty awesome. They had Final Fantasy 7 music playing and it was just awesome with great games and consoles and accessories all over the place.
LOL the owner caught me off guard with "How much you want for it" when i was there last too! I"m so used to there being a set price on something. Plus, He's changed his store alot since i visited hot springs ar last year. It's got alot of things, but the owner recommends cash most of the time LOL.
Why was the owner like “I’m not in a rush to get rid of this” when the guy wanted to buy the consoles? Like….isn’t that what the business is for? To sell stuff? And make money? I guess he was just bluffing to get more but what a seriously uncomfortable environment
@@olivevideogames it was super weird. He would talk about how rare and hard to find stuff was, and then didn’t really want to sell it. At first I thought it was a sales tactic, but I’m not really sure if it was
It’s interesting. I get the “shady” carnival vibe from this place. I know the game chasers went there a lot but it felt really off. I like how you just helped them out Rick. And hey now u got a virtual boy and a nomad box and some other goodies 👊
I’m not getting the carnival or shady connection? Care to elucidate? This kind of place is very common in the south - I’ve been to countless antique stores, record shops and other private businesses in the south and most have this vibe. Little bit grimy and lack of professional polish, but a lot of character in these places - its similar to hastily set up flee market stall or garage sale .. southerners aren’t fancy or well-kept .. just laid back and raw.
That's cause the game chasers were trying to buy the entire store for nothing. I love the game chasers but jay is an absolute ass to deal with. He has prices and jay is offering half of retail, that's insulting.
Kinda crazy how for the entire video, you kept asking his price on several things and he kept saying "wait till you get everything together" and then at the end keeps trying to fleece you lmao. What a guy.
It's hilarious to see the virtual boy in this video while I watch laying down in my bed on my Oculus quest 2 lol watching the Granddaddy of all VR in VR.
Interesting video but I'd just be walking out of there. no vibe, no prices, loads of awkward nonsense. Not a nice buying experience at all, don't care how good your stuff is, I'm walking.

Well heres a controller with it on it from a system ages old that you prolly dont have, and it's rare as shit and you prolly cant afford it, but you made me bring it off the wall and now you gotta sit there and awkwardly tell me no."
It’s hard to watch the owner not price stuff. Maybe you can make a small argument about the rare boxed stuff but I would walk out of a store if I asked how much 3 PS3’s were and they respond how he did.
I guarantee most of you never heard of neo geo console, way ahead of its time. Came out in the early 90s and cost 1k, and the games were 200 a cartridge. I own and still have this console and everything is still operational

@@MikeTheGamer77 It's not awkward, it's called being tired of lowballer game collectors trying to get all your good shit for nothing to take an resell it. Owner is the master old school bazaar haggler. He approached the sale in this order: The first mention of the close: "you get a pile up and well talk about it" This immediately makes the buyer start a larger pile without worrying of the sticker shock, and leading to a bigger sale. After that it was broken down like this: 1. "You tell me" 2. "What do you think" 3. "I wasn't planning on letting this go" 1. He has fished for basic information to get the best deal possible while at the same time seeming like it is nothing more than just a deal to him. Diffuse and fish. 2. See the absolute value of everything in the customers eyes. 3. Before the finality of the deal the owner preempts the buyers expectations with how he sees these to have a hefty value, and almost an inconvenience for him to sell, even after he made the whole transaction just seem like an open carefree thing in the very beginning. A total flip flop but genius. A+ On the old man selling this guy.
The owner was really starting to get on my last nerve, you couldn't get a straight answer from this guy. Or visa versa. Insecure people let their emotions enter into a deal. To assume someone is trying to rob you, when this is your profession no less, may suggest you need either a readjustment in how you conduct business or a possible examination for autism or ad.d.
Sorry but that owner... if you want to sell something you name the price. And then don't cry when a buyer has to name a price and you dont like it.
I love my JVC x'eye and Virtua Boy(in rental case). I'm glad i bought them years ago before the big retro hike.
I love the " be better for you if you had cash " ... hope no one at the irs was was watchin lol
I don’t see how they sell anything the way mike does his dealings. Seems like it’d be real hard to deal with him!
I had an X'Eye once. I still maintain it has the all time best boot music. Great video, RR!
This shop was famous in a lot of Game Chaser episodes, He had WAY more in those episodes, It’s great to see that there still around!
different store/location, same owners.
So does the tax man…
@@BA-vw2kx Probably thats why they were awkward, nobody likes making big deals on cam.
Well it also means that you can't avoid forgetting it on your taxes. If you are paid cash, you can just pretend that you found that money and lost some consoles.
its because they dont claim it and pay taxes lol
I mean, 2.7% isn't that huge of a deal, it's the taxes they are trying to avoid. 2.7% card fees on $1000 is only $27.00, it's the fact that taking that card puts it on the "books," is what they are REALLY trying to avoid.
Virtual Boy was kinda cool back in the day. I remember the game where you are flying through these weird cave systems. Couldn't play that thing for more than an hour without getting a headache from all those red lines.
Seeing red like Kramer did in that episode of Seinfeld.
Migraine Boy. 🤣
The seller is so annoying. It seems like someone is going into his house and begging to buy something that isn't for sale.
I agree, tell me a fn price man, you’re the store, then he makes a fair offer, wtf would have he charged with the cc, $200 for the box.?
I hate Dealing with people like that. Won’t tell you a price.
Because they don’t know the price. They’re shooting from the hip. People like this always say no to first offer then add 50-100 more
@@castro1223 Got any advice on how to negotiate with folks like this ?
I love it.
How am I supposed to know how much stuff to put in the pile if you don't tell me how much the stuff's going to be
I remember seeing them on the game chasers! I thought they closed their shop?! Absolutely love to see them back
They've closed shop twice now but have bounced back every time.
Love to hear it. Badass
This is a different location.
They closed twice you say?
How is that even possible with such amazing customer service?
🤣
That X-eye was clean and came with the branded controller! I wish he would've said what he wanted for it specifically.
Makes me wonder how places like this can stay open
He won't be for long with that attitude. This shop has already gone out of business twice.
I would go just to order online in front of him.
@@nunyabusiness9013the owners are also clueless about video games lol
That owner was driving me crazy. Give me a price damn it!
The prices were on everything.
Can't wait to buy it and store it for years.
Glad to see they are still doing well and still in the game.
First saw them on The Game Chasers...decent people...quality.
Which episode
@zachdelkus they were in series 1 quite a bit, Episode 26 "Living in a gaming paradise" i think was the first appearance, but possibly before that aswell.
I've been to that one in Conway about 10 years ago. It was pretty awesome. They had Final Fantasy 7 music playing and it was just awesome with great games and consoles and accessories all over the place.
The Russian Tetris thing was the most awkward interaction I have ever witnessed in my life.
LOL the owner caught me off guard with "How much you want for it" when i was there last too! I"m so used to there being a set price on something. Plus, He's changed his store alot since i visited hot springs ar last year. It's got alot of things, but the owner recommends cash most of the time LOL.
Yeah, sometimes it's a precarious position for some people who normally pay set prices.
Bargaining is a skill to be mastered.
@@acardenasjr1340 it is tough to master bargaining. I just think he should have a sign on the front of his store saying cash recommended though.
Not gonna lie…this one was a difficult one to be a part of. It was unlimited awkwardness the whole time. 😂
Why was the owner like “I’m not in a rush to get rid of this” when the guy wanted to buy the consoles? Like….isn’t that what the business is for? To sell stuff? And make money? I guess he was just bluffing to get more but what a seriously uncomfortable environment
@@olivevideogames I think it’s more like, if he didn’t want to sell them then just say that and move on. Not be weird about it the whole time.
@@olivevideogames it was super weird. He would talk about how rare and hard to find stuff was, and then didn’t really want to sell it. At first I thought it was a sales tactic, but I’m not really sure if it was
It was so awk that Rick didn't even follow up with the multiple PS3's he wanted to buy off them..
@@olivevideogames Cause the game chasers went there numerous times and try to buy their shit for nothing. Rick was reasonable about it.
When you walk in the door chime is a banjo trailing off into the distance.
Kinda crazy how for the entire video, you kept asking his price on several things and he kept saying "wait till you get everything together" and then at the end keeps trying to fleece you lmao. What a guy.
I don’t like that he wouldn’t just tell you the price. I would have walked out if someone did that to me 😂.
They had prices on the items. He was telling him he'll make a deal based on what he grabs (when it came to the unpriced box specifically)
That's the game.....
empty handed!
For income tax evasion purposes.
It's hilarious to see the virtual boy in this video while I watch laying down in my bed on my Oculus quest 2 lol watching the Granddaddy of all VR in VR.
Great video😊 but gotta admit the older guy seemed waaay hesitant on selling some of the stuff, hopefully they do get business though
Honestly it’s amazing these people have sold anything to anybody with that approach.
you new to the retro gaming market?
This is every game store ever with about 5% less aggression because of the cameras
@@broogul7335 nah man these guys were just kind of being assholes
They're hoarders, selling shit is a side gig.
These guys are great! I'm so happy they are still slinging that plastic gold. Definitely keep this guy in your rolodex
That was hard to watch rick was good as usual, but those guys. I would walk out after hearing there attitude.
I remember trading games with him in the late 90's!!!
He was the first person to tell me about the Russian Tetris game back in the day!!
Awesome that they are still around and open still love the store and the people.
The comp you used on screen for the JVC X’Eye controller was my listing! Does that make me a celebrity? I feel pretty cool. Love your videos!
What a collection to have in a gamestore
Interesting video but I'd just be walking out of there. no vibe, no prices, loads of awkward nonsense. Not a nice buying experience at all, don't care how good your stuff is, I'm walking.
"Dont you eye my ____" as if they dont want to sell it
**WELL THEN WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE I CAN LOOK AT SIR?**
That and randomly bringing up other things "you like _____? Well heres a controller with it on it from a system ages old that you prolly dont have, and it's rare as shit and you prolly cant afford it, but you made me bring it off the wall and now you gotta sit there and awkwardly tell me no."
@@MadGameBoy yeah, exactly that
As everyone else is saying the store definitely doesn’t pass the vibe check but the inventory does. For a store in the mid west it’s lit
The midwest really needs to get high speed internet infrastructure huh?
It’s hard to watch the owner not price stuff. Maybe you can make a small argument about the rare boxed stuff but I would walk out of a store if I asked how much 3 PS3’s were and they respond how he did.
I guarantee most of you never heard of neo geo console, way ahead of its time. Came out in the early 90s and cost 1k, and the games were 200 a cartridge. I own and still have this console and everything is still operational
Always liked Jimmy and his Dad on the Game Chasers episodes. Looks like a really cool store!
I hate when someone that's selling something won't give a price and just keep asking what you want to pay for it.
Same. Guy was really pushing for cash as payment too... Nothing shady going on at this store at all :)
😂😂. He wanted your number Retro Rick so he know how’s how much to counter. He didn’t want to get mean on you. 🤦🏽♂️. There’s no one going in there to buy those items. Great pickups as usual. Always entertaining even if it’s a little awkward. The guy never did give a price for a few PS3s.
It's not awkward, the owner is just tired of youtubers coming in and pressing him for good deals on shit when he knows damn well they're just taking it back to sell it (game chasers).
@@thedadtris IT was definitely awkward. Who are you kidding?
@@MikeTheGamer77 It's not awkward, it's called being tired of lowballer game collectors trying to get all your good shit for nothing to take an resell it.
Why should he give a deal to any of them when he knows damn well they are going to resell it? When I go to stores of people that I respect, I pay their full asking price. That keeps them in business and shows I'm not a scumbag trying to take advantage of them.
@@thedadtris your logic makes 0 sense. If he's tired of low ballers why doesn't he just set a price? How ass backwards is it to be tired of low ball offers but force your customer to make the first offer? You seem about as coherent as the store owner.
13:09 I have to give you props for the background track. Currently trying to finish that title right now!
I had a Virtual Boy when I was kid and it was mind blowing for its time. I wish I still had it
Nah, even back then it was fairly bad. Nightmare black and red screen you had to adjust just so and have squashed up against your face was not very good and caused neck and back pain if you played for very long. The games weren’t better than what we had been a xoeriencing for years on our tvs in full colour and in the comfort of our lazyboys. I sold mine off years ago.
The migraines definitely blew my mind.
Owner is the master old school bazaar haggler. He approached the sale in this order:
The first mention of the close: "you get a pile up and well talk about it" This immediately makes the buyer start a larger pile without worrying of the sticker shock, and leading to a bigger sale.
After that it was broken down like this:
1. "You tell me"
2. "What do you think"
3. "I wasn't planning on letting this go"
I totally agree. I thought the old guy's sales technique was downright adorable
The owner was really starting to get on my last nerve, you couldn't get a straight answer from this guy. You got a tad ripped on some stuff he saw you coming a mile away... if you don't want to sell it don't put up for sale and quit playing games. Man I never been frustrated listening to a person rant mumble the way he did....smfh.
Loved the video! Was enjoying it and then I looked closer and saw a very familiar place. Game Point in Conway, AR. My hometown, that's nuts!
Love the old skool way of negotiating!! They definitely don’t do it like that anymore!! If you’re a 90s kid you would of seen your parents negotiate like this at least a few times
Yea my dad was a cheap bastard too 😂😂

Brick and mortar is dying to online sales and this guy wants to speedrun to the front of the line.
You tell me how much you want to pay for all of this. I don’t think this gentleman understands how retail works. If “I know what I got” was a video game store it’d be these characters. Too many years of raiding grandma’s basement for pennies and flipping for hundreds. And hey, that’s capitalism, I won’t fault them for that. The attitude is just a bit off putting for me.
I worked in a pawn shop & did a deal or two with high end collector types over the years. They require a different tac & a softer approach. Oldschool gamer stuff (outside of DX16/33 pc stuff which I knew) was never my forte, but we had guys on site who knew very old consoles.
calling a 1-800 number to get in contact with a local console dealer is a funny concept lol
@0:27 NOT ever again
Fun fact; running a game store is extremely stressful. The guy in the red shirt who owns that store is only 5 years older than Rick
Cringe nerd
15 years not 5
Grew up in the 90s and absolutely love getting the sega mega drive out and having a blast love that these guys keep this stuff kept like this would otherwise be lost to time
Old man didn’t seem to want anyone in his store let’s be honest.
Thats the vibe for sure..!!😂
The worst thing about shops like that is they really don't want to get rid of anything!
If the pawn shop from Pulp Fiction sold video games… “It’s gonna be a good day Dad…” wtf? Lol
When i was a kid my local mom and pop hobby store was a nightmare. No prices and anything and the guy literally didnt want to sell you anything. Followed you around the shop like a criminal.
I was amused to read in the local paper that he was trying to fight the council if a compulsory purchase order and was asking for peoples support. He lost and the shop got knocked down. Me and a few friends enjoyed making a decent RC track on the soil what was left until the builders moved in a few months later.😂

What happened to the Retro Life channel?
I could watch a video three times as long just to listen to Mike's accent :D it's wonderful!
"I'm trying to figure out what you want to pay." That cracks me up.
Wow, I grew up with an X-Eye, never knew it was rare or valuable. Our second console after NES. Wonder if my parents still have it in storage somewhere.
Lol my dad has two didn’t know they were really that rare😮
Its crazy how many rare games and systems I ended up having back in the day... Had a Nomad, no idea whatever happened to that thing! And had a copy of Tengen Tetris. I saw another video where someone ranked the top 10 rarest NES games of all time, I forget the name of the game but I had one of them too!
Old man’s a few fries short of a happy meal I hate dealing with people like that
That handheld Nomad… I’ve had one of those since I was a kid. Sitting in the back on the shelf.
When Rick says 'Right...' he knew that number wasn't coming!
"Ain't nobody getting my Batman, I need to take that home".😂 Removes it from display. Places behind counter.
Remember wanting that VR headset as a kid. Drooled over my Nintendo Power magazine ad for it!
