Been a professional installer since 1993 and about ten years ago I started using 8ohm home audio drivers in my own cars and I'll never go back. Currently running a set of Dev Tech Pro Monitor 1000's that I picked up on Marketplace for $140 and amazing doesn't come close to describing the sound. I'm driving them with a Kenwood Elite 4-channel D-class amp bridged to two channels bringing the load down to 4ohms. Incredible.
That's interesting. I generally use Marine Quality equipment in my car stereo installs because thee equipemnt is made just so much better and are more durable. I started installing stereos in boats before cars. Now boats with cabins I would usually install a regular 8 ohm jome stereo. Because I think you can take a mid priced pair of bookshelf speakers and compare any car stereo speakers and the bookshelf speakers sound better. Every time. Plus the crossover is already part of the speaker (crossovers for speakers can get crazy expensive too. But they generally are the weakest link in a cabinet speaker regardless of how well the rest of the drivers and cabinet are made. If you have a setup in your car where you can do a component install that may be the best way to go. And there are alot of cars set up that way today. I applaud you for thinking outside the box. Another thing I do is whenever I end up at Pull and Pay I check around for any high end luxury cars with premium soundsystems and see what shape the speakers are, and grab them if they look good. The stereos in some of the premium cars are getting crazy good with again a crazy number of speakers. I usually find that the subwoofersdon't seem to compare quite as well (like say to a Sevard Rap series sub which perform btter than subs twice their price), but speakers for your mids and highs are very good quality and generally sound great. The only thing is when you have some companies putting 15-20 speakers in their cars most of the speakers are low wattage like 30-50 watts is all. Now if you want to "spend a little bit more"I can you SB Audience speakers are better than 99% of the speakers out there. And they are not that expensive. SB Audience only makes professional speakers for arenas etc.. but you can pick up their drivers and tweeters at Madisound, which is the only U.S. distributor,. What makes this brand so great is they are 100% vertically intgrated company. No outside components are used, everything is made in house. Great speakers at prices you can afford. Leaving only the crossover needed as it will be a component set up to go with SB AUdience. They do not make, or at least don't offer coaxial speakers in the U.S. (Woofer $80-150,and tweeters $50-$159.Naturally they do offer some even more expensive but you are getting a fantastic drivers in that price range. Better than speakers double to triple the cost. Once I get things organized I want to build a set of 3 way tower speakers with SB Audience speakers as well have my car setup with all of their speakers. I have a 3 way component setup in my car for front and year (it's a earlier BMW) which is nice. As 3 way setups always sound better than 2 way setups I don't care what anyone says. Hats off good sir for thinking outside the box! PS if you want some really good copy right free music: White Bat Audio has some really good stuff (Outstanding track for testing subwoofers: "Shin Godzilla". And for Heavy Metal (and just altogether great album) Sakis Tolis "Among the Fires of Hell". He's a Greek artists, and it's his solo album released free on UA-cam. ) That's about all I know music I like.
Like it! Let’s see some higher end stuff. I like the flat EQ and no crossover idea. Same playing field is a great way to test. We all know crossover and dsp can clean up anything, but this work!!
Coming from the pro audio / live sound world I've slowly convinced myself to ignore the "car audio" label and now I'm working on a system that includes the stuff I'm used to working with. Hoping it sounds good. It'll definitely be loud lol
The Audio Dynamics speaker was definietly the best sounding speaker. But that Hyanks was surprisingly good. I know their coaxial speakers are what $50 a pair?
I'd like to see a video on how you incorporate a midbass driver in a complete system. Do they require their own amp? What other drivers are added for a full system? Do all the drivers need to have the same ohm rating? I have no experience with mid bass drivers just subs and full range, usually 2 amps
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts Also, I see a lot of timpano and prv used as a mid, I don't know why. Timpano has subs on Amazon for pretty good prices for what theYRE rated for
Keeping an eye on midbass reviews. Looking for the best poly cone I can afford because of exposure to the elements. Once again your timing is on point👍
not a big fan of poly, there are some decent ones, but Im a sucker for treated paper. gpcaraudio.com/deaf-bonce-machete-lw-65a4-6-5-midbass/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6uWyBhD1ARIsAIMcADov-vSQN0Q0Tn6vATr_iIqQD-0JFE4d9QjwirQfQlWQepss8t2ikpgaAvBJEALw_wcB
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts Oh yeah I agree paper is best, but I get a great punch from my cheap kickers. Problem is that they’re coax. Maybe heavily treated paper is an option. It’s the moisture that concerns me.
Good sh€t man. I’ve been 👀 at those Machete mid-bass for a while now. I want something that will play lower thank my 3 way components will but don’t want to add a sub to the mix here. How did they sound in that enclosure? Keep doing these types of videos dude. 👍 👍 for real nice ass video
Most car audio 6.5's can run IB they're designed to work in a door and have a QTS of around .700 , with the exeception of 6.5 subs, and some 6.5 midbass drivers
that was good deal. even though the old dollar store speaker with a decent tweet did ok . compared to other it's still had some mid bass didn't hit all the notes but hey the tweet really helped balance it
Love this video I like the comparisons of the diff drivers, the audio dynamic sounded the best to me.
Good to hear! their price is down to 250 bucks now for a set

You got it!
Sounded like the flatter the mid driver can play, the better they did with tweeters
@Nedsped0 The only real difference is some of the the mids had a higher frequency response that others but that's about it.
Would love more

How's that Machete for handling midbass only? If its not good have a recommendation at about 80W?
its a remarkable speaker man, pretty warm mids, not super loud, but solid
No focals?
Sned me a pair and I'll test em
Awesomeness³
I’m trying to find a good set for like 400 or less a pair with good sound quality

they hit hard man, i tested those on a sweep before i started filming, they played 30z pretty well, and really played 40hz and up

yea personally i liked the first one i tested, it was actually a woofer, and it blended really well with that AD tweeter
