Slay the Spire dev here: Really like the new direction you decided to move into. I think it is looking much more promising.
Wow, thanks! (Slay the Spire is awesome btw, but I'm sure you're aware)
Crazy to see how far patch quest has come
A year later , and still amazing
This video was randomly recommended on my dash, and I was interested so I clicked. When I heard it was a roguelike metroidvania, I was doubly excited because my two favorite games, Enter the Gungeon and Hollow Knight, are those genres! And, of course, you've made videos on both. Easy choice to subscribe. I can't wait to watch the other devlogs, but this game looks amazing so far. Love the non-violent take, the bullet hell type gameplay, the art... how awesome!
I just want to add small suggestion. The animation of this game is stellar but the monsters aren't very expressive. Something like a chewing animation when you give them snacks would be nice. Good luck 👍developing.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't have a lot of dev resources, so I try to be efficient with things like sharing animations. But I'll think about whether there's an easy way to do something like this
The change is really interesting and it looks great. I'm looking forward to giving it a go!
Thanks sethzard!
I like the concept! And the artstyle and the animations are very cute! I'll be following. Looking forward for the demo.
Thanks Joao
Daaamn dude
it's amazing how thought trough the mechanics of your game seem to be even in the first devlog already, it really shows that you went back to the roots and came up with a wellworking concept before starting to code for this attempt (as you explained in your how not to make an indie game video)
I really like that you don't have to kill the monsters but feed them instead, although the shots still resemble projectiles more than food imo. maybe you could add something like a little "monster looks happy and satisfied before disappearing" animation to indicate that the monster is no longer hungry after it was "shot"
keep up the great work! your game looks great and your videos are very cool as well
Wow, looks super polished! I like the status effects too, adds good spice to the gameplay. Looking forward to more updates!
Thanks Mark, more coming soon
This game has come a very long way in 2 years (not counting the 3 years of development hell proceeding finally deciding what Patch Quest would be)
Jeez this game looks so different!
The nostalgia!
I am so hyped by this! It's a really good game!
Thanks JP!
Nice i really liked the capturing mechanic it gives alot of options for how you wanna tackle battles that's really good for a rougelike game i think ( deadcell) looking forward to demo ( sorry for my bad english)
Just found out about this game from watching Gym Leader Ed! Gonna plow through all these videos! Love the idea
Who’s back for their annual rewatch of the Patch Quest dev log?
Great to be watching these from the beginning and see how PQ has evolved! By any chance, are these earlier versions still available somewhere online to try?
Particularly the turn based predecessor?
Wow, It looks absolutely amazing..
Thanks Cuppa! There's a free alpha on the discord server with some fresh changes
I’ve been binge watching! I’ll be sure to try it out! Your game is amazing! I wish I was that talented, how did you learn?
@@eyitsgallery I'm mostly self taught. I started on Game Maker Studio as a teenager, and later moved on to Unity. At the end of the day, it just comes down to practice. But nowadays you can learn a lot on UA-cam too!
Very Interesting, I love your art and games!
Crazy what this game was like at the start
Monster idea: a polarbear named icebear
Defence skill Eat: eats up enemy bullets deleating them and gain a bit of stamina
Attack skill Snowball: fires a ray of shots wich makes the player freeze
Thats all I came up with hope it helps
(Sorry i could not do the super skill)
I might be a bit late but the best place for suggestions is either in the discord server or the newest dev video!
No Your The Best
Ad it to mobile
This isn't a roguelike.
What makes u say that? There's permadeath and randomized worlds
@@Saikool64 So minecraft hardcore is a roguelike? Damn, that's some stupid logic.
@@LoopHD i would say yes it is, unless you're using the Berlin interpretation, why wouldn't it be?
@@Saikool64 Minecraft is a survival game.
Survival games are considered an extension of a common video game theme where the player character is stranded or separated from others and must work alone to survive and complete a goal. Survival games focus on the survival parts of these games, while encouraging exploration of an open world.[1] They are primarily action games, though some gameplay elements present in the action-adventure genre-such as resource management and item crafting-are commonly found in survival games, and are central elements in titles like Survival Kids. At the start of a typical survival game, the player is placed alone in the game's world with few resources. It is not uncommon for players to spend the majority or entirety of the game without encountering a friendly non-player character; since NPCs are typically hostile to the player, the emphasis is placed on avoidance, rather than confrontation. In some games, however, combat is unavoidable and provides the player with valuable resources (e.g., food, weapons, and armor).
In some titles, the world is generated randomly so that players must actively search for food and weapons, often provided with visual and auditory cues of the types of resources that may be found nearby.[2] The player character typically has a health bar and will take damage from falling, starving, drowning, contact with fire or harmful substances, and attacks by monsters that inhabit the world.
Not a roguelike. Yes, the definition of roguelike is juggled around, but for me minecraft is nothing at all like a roguelike and basically the definition of a survival game.
@@LoopHD The genre's aren't mutually exclusive, I would say Hardcore mode minecraft is A Survival Roguelike. I imagine we're operating on different definition. I use the one from Mark Brown's Game Maker's Tool Kit, which only requires the game have permadeath and randomly generated levels (with a couple exceptions I imagine). This definition is able to include games such as Spelunky and Binding of Issac, which are both commonly considered roguelikes. What definition are you using?
