    Glad you said that about the spray. Liquid spray is mainly good for nests on the outside of the house. Also, if you are going to try to kill them on your own when the nest is small you should wait until dark when they are all back in the nest to kill them.

      Use the powder that comes in the squeeze bottle with the straw. Go at night, when the little shits are asleep, stick the straw all the way into the nest, and puff repeatedly as you pull it slowly out. Leave a big pile in the entranceway. They won't know what hit them, and they won't come looking for the asshole with the spray can or the hose (like most people find out!).

    This video made me so anxious and jumpy. My cat sniffed my leg and a whisker brushed it and I jerked my knee up into my desk so hard and fast that I cut it on the flat underside and now it's starting to bruise.
    Sigh

    I remember when I heard a funny story about yellowjackets. It was in church and my funny preacher Buster was preaching. He told a funny story about yellowjackets in his house and then he said, "yellowjacket infestation! My gosh! Just help me out, people!" It made everybody in the church LOL. One of my friends was just looking very confused at Buster and he just started taking notes. Buster should have his own comedy show!

    The easy way here is very simple , use a shop vac. Put the hose end right by the nest entrance and turn it on , then leave it for an hour or so. The wasps get angry and investigate and into the hose they go , I usually never see even one more wasp after using this method

    I find the spray cans work really well if you can see the nest. I had a hornet nest in a tree about 10 feet up, fair size but not as big as they can get. I waited until night and hit the entrance first and then soaked the nest. Dead in one treatment. I have also had good success with the foamy stuff, again also at night, but the nest has to be close to the access hole. It even works on ground nests some times just keep pumping until the foam won't go in anymore. But then I have had other nests where the foamy stuff didn't work so I called for a pro. The powder is definitely the boss.

    This is a great video to help home owners. Thank you for this post. But the powder, is it diotomacios earth powder? And is the PVC tank behind the reservoir compressed air or is there a CO2 cartridge? I think it's a very interesting contraption and I wish I had one since I spent over $40 on those cans already... terrible investment unless its arboreal paper wasps.

    How do you keep yellow jackets from making a nest inside a homes walls? And how do you stop them from chewing thru drywall sheetrock, or often called Gypsum board? Does blown foam insulation stop yellow jackets, or can they chew thru the foam also?

    • @animaltrackerswildlife4577
      @animaltrackerswildlife4577  5 років тому +2

      Joey Barrelwilde hi there. Make sure all gaps are caulked especially around pipes like your a/c line or water spigots. Other than that you can’t really stop them entirely, they will find a spot that looks secure anyway. Try to walk to perimeter every few weeks and just watch, get to them early if you see even one going into an opening. It all starts with one! Thanks for watching!

    I know of people that would find a nest of them in the ground, come back at night and light a road flare and stick the lit end into the hole and let it burn. It takes care of the adults and then they dig up the nest to get the larva, which are excellent panfish bait. Also, we have found nests that have been dug up and raided by some critter, presumably a raccoon, not sure though.

I only spotted it because yellow jackets had suddenly started crawling randomly out on the floor. I went in, noticed a small hole and a lot of pitting on the paint, and put my ear carefully against the wall: the sound I heard could only be adequately by Robert E. Heinlein in Starship Troopers. Or Dante's Inferno, maybe. I got lucky and they never broke through, but I had a 100+ wasp hive to deal with, all throughout the wall.

    Liquid chemical sprays, in my experience, are only ever good to use on smaller nests in an outdoor area. Underneath a deck, on a tree branch, etc. I would never use them anywhere near my house or an area we frequently use. Otherwise, generally I'm just gonna use soapy water. I think I want to try some of this drione dust though. It really looks like it works great.

    I wonder how long it takes for the nest to grow that big. I strangely find these nests ridiculously interesting and have watched them at night time . But I always find them around house and there still in that golf ball shape and size. I can’t tell you how awesome it was that night watching them , they started making the nest between my glass sliding door and the screen so I had a perfect view . There were 3 wasps , each on there stomach going in back in forth motion on the outer circle and they looked asleep while they were doing it. I sat there with a flash light all night just fascinated. Of course the next night I sprayed them with that stuff you said not to use lol 😂 .. but the way they make those nests is just insane. I’ve never seen a big one though , and don’t want to , I’ll continue admiring for afar . I just thought I’d share that experience because it was really cool

    After seeing a bunch if activity in the yard, I found a cluster of them huddled up on the side of the house on the stucco but no nest. do they migrate that way if a small nest gets destroyed? I hit them that night with the spray, and they got knocked down by the spray, but later found some of them on the wall again cleaning themselves off! I hit them with an outdoor fogging spray which seemed to do the trick better. How large a hole do I need to be looking for? I haven't seen a problem since, so it seems they were migrating.

    But from behind the wall you can see how it really strikes them at the heart and works, even if it doesn't seem so from the outside

    Loved the video, very informative. I'm wondering whether spraying that powder at this time of year is worth it? I have a nest (Detroit area) between the first and second floor under the siding and I've noticed some scattered dead yellow jackets on all floors of the house including the basement. Would you say just leave it since the cold is just about here, or spray and possibly upset the wasps? My fear is that they might find they're way into the house. When spraying that powder, do the bees look frantically for a way out anywhere, or do they die in there?

    • @animaltrackerswildlife4577
      @animaltrackerswildlife4577  7 років тому

      Hi Dylan, the nice thing about the powder is they don’t react that quickly and don’t realize it’s going to kill them, so they don’t run from it. We are in Chicago, similar weather, I’ll bet your nest is done for the year and there is not much to worry about at this point. Thanks for watching!

    I find a good way to rid myself of these pests in a cavity like this is a CO2 fire extinguisher ,, i have developed some really ingenious
    ways of ridding myself of pests ,,my favorite by far is the weedeater engine snuffer ,,i took an idea i got from the internet for killing moles and modified it to use for other stuff like rats ,,i put a 1 inch flexible hose about 2ft long on the exhaust of a 25CC weedeater engine and use it for chasing rats and mice out of my house and it works on bees too ,,start it and stick the tube into their hole
    works on yellow jackets too , i have a old metal fuel funnel that i put over the nest when in the ground , insert the hose into the funnel and start the engine ,, it forces the exhaust heat and gas under pressure into their nest literally roasting them pouring a gallon of soapy water ,especially dawn dish soap and water into the hole will kill them too

    The queens don't hibernate in that nest, but will they make a new nest in the same cavity or do they abandon the area entirely ? I have a nest under my second floor porch and was wondering if I should just let it be, now that it's late fall, and they'll be gone when next spring rolls around. I live near Boston, with long cold winters, if that makes any difference. Also, is that powder something you need a license for or is it sold to anyone. Thanks for any knowledge you can give. Great video. Thumbs up.

      @animaltrackerswildlife4577  7 років тому +11

      Hi, thanks for for watching! We live in Chicago, same weather I'll bet. Yes, they don't hibernate in the nest. They move out and hibernate wherever they find a spot, under some bark, behind the siding, in hollow logs, etc. They do not reuse the nest next year. So, If they haven't gotten into your living space by now, you are probably good to go, I wouldn't worry much about it. As far as the powder goes, you could pick that up at your local hardware store I'm sure. Nothing special, just ask for some sort of garden insect killer that you would apply to your vegetable garden. There are many different companies that make it. Good luck with your pesky yellow jackets this year and hopefully not next year!

    I had a nest in the ground in my garden I poured about a pint of petrol down there and lit it, of course they tried to fly out and hey presto wasp crisps

      Don't light it. The fumes are the main killer, and the fire just burns it off.

      So....don't let anyone see you doing it.

    Aerogel, Boric acid, and Durasban. Old school get it done right now, once and done, screw regs. Hornets suck, I did this many years ago. Thermal fogger was hi tech back then, always used 400 back then, nuke em, and move on....
