  • Our client heard scratching and thought they had a rodent or wildlife infestation in their attic. They bought mouse and rat poison and traps to resolve the problem themselves. After the noise continued, they decided to call the professionals at Prudential Pest Solutions to help with their pest issue.
When I arrived at the house for the service call and walked to the front door, I noticed a lot of yellow jackets entering and exiting the roof line of the house. Right away I knew that the issue was not a mouse or squirrel, but a nest of yellow jackets in the wall somewhere. After a brief inspection of the walls on the second story, I found a circular soft spot in the wall. This is where the yellow jacket nest was.
We are experts at identifying, treating, and removing yellow jacket, hornet, wasp, and bee nests from homes and properties. Prudential Pest Solutions services all of South Eastern and South Central Pennsylvania including Chester, Berks, Montgomery, Lancaster, Delaware, and York Counties.

Do you do service calls to Elizabethtown Pennsylvania?? If so we just discovered a nest in our exterior wall. They are between the Tyvex and siding.

I think I found a soft spot like that on one of my walls. We kept having yellowjackets at the window in the room in the morning so I just assumed they were getting in the window somehow....until one night I kept hearing scratching at that area of the wall.....
Wondering if it might be better to wait until the winter to do all of this? Would that mean releasing less of them into the home and make it less likely someone gets stung?

It would be nice if these pest services actually answered questions... will yellow jacket chew through drywall in the winter?

How do they get in there from outside? Or the house?

You can see light coming thru the other side, they must have broke thru on the other side with a little hole.

This was so helpful. I'm not in PA, or I'd use your service! What should I ask an exterminator to make sure they are good. I just had someone come to my parents place for yellow jackets. He put a mixed powder foam substance at the outside entrance and a liquid spray around the windows. The outside entrance no longer has anyone entering but a nearby corner of the house has maybe one every five minutes or so? Temps are about to drop but I'm worried they'll just stay alive because I think they're in our wall or attic upstairs. I feel like the guy who came should have been looking for the soft spot you found here. ):

You could cut as much drywall as you want. Its is just as easy to fix a 12" square as this hole. I mean find the studs cut down the middle and take the piece out. That is what the person who fixes this is going to do.

Good point! We say that we make a small opening in the wall because we don't want to "frighten" the homeowner when they are already stressed. The drywall repair will require the removal of more material. Thanks for the good input!

Repairing drywall isn't hard, but if they want me to do it I'm gonna charge like hell because it takes some time.

Very helpful. Was the 2nd longer lasting treatment you applied a liquid formulation? does the moisture cause any additional issues to the walls?

Very interesting. Very well done removal. What would be a ballpark estimate for a removal like that?

Most are surprised to find out that a treatment like this is relatively inexpensive. We typically charge around $200 for a treatment and removal. We are able to be affordable because we are experienced and efficient. My business philosophy is to build our customer base by doing great work at an affordable rate so that we can get more referrals and help more clients!

@@prudentialpestsolutions6617 Thank you very much for the response. I agree that charge is affordable and seems very fair. I am dealing with a similar situation in the video (they are inside the wall and the sheetrock is soft). I got a guy to come the same day I called (he was the friend of a friend) which I was very thankful for. I had taped a bunch of layers up to the wall to try to keep them from breaking through. He blasted them with a strong dose of Delta dust through the wall and then we covered over the hole that was made to insert the Delta dust. It has been 4 days and the coming and going on the outside has been reduced to almost nothing...but I can still hear some wing humming inside the wall (it is much less than before). Your video is very helpful because it demonstrates the right way to do the job and that a complete removal is not a huge hurdle for a pro. Unfortunately I am out of your service area since I am west of Harrisburg...but your video and answer above will help me ask the right questions as I try to find someone to treat and fully remove the nest. Thanks for the info you share on your channel.
