It's funny because Tesla and electric cars are Elon's thing. But Elon in the old west wouldn't be about electric cars, he'd be about their old west equivalent, electric horses. Now consider the modern day goal of having cars drive themselves. What's the old west equivalent? The self driving horse. But all horses 'drive themselves' already because they are living creatures with free spirits. It's the perfect joke told by old west Elon and about 5 people laughed.

I’ve watched a good bit of this episode and I’m super impressed with Elon’s willingness to go all in with it. He did great with this character in my opinion.

The thing is... having a sense of humor begins with being able to laugh at yourself and take criticism. He's not your typical host. But at least he figured out that part. I don't really find him funny... but I appreciate his willingness to be not-so-subtly roasted.

Some people have thick skin and some people are snowflakes. At least we know Elon Musk can take a (metaphorical) punch.

You can't risk thousands of employees' lives by downplaying a pandemic and then joke about how it was kind of a mistake and expect to get a pat on the back. People have died because of his actions despite the larger community of experts telling him to stfu repeatedly. If he can just laugh at his mistakes after the fact and everyone would be cool with it, he has no real incentive to actually act responsibly on other issues. That's precisely what his cultish followers are enabling him to do.
