Damn this one looks interesting. Excellent art, a good soundtrack and an interesting take on some dark themes. As someone that isn't petrified with fear at the thought of reading about such dark themes, I'm excited to explore these topics in a video game.
Honestly surprised the review didn't talk about the number of CGs/quality/frequency of adult scenes. As it's certainly part of what makes an eroge and H game. Regardless I gotta find time to play this!
I mean, you're basically a pimp so CGs are plentiful. I've only played this game for like an hour and already I've seen more CGs then in like 15 hours of Muramasa(Muramusa is dope for other reasons) so this definitely is not a game where it's hard to find H scenes.
Y'know, between the review itself and the few comments in comment section that seem to consider mere existence of this game to be a crime or affront to humanity, I have a few thoughts. For one, isn't this how you portray morally gray characters? It seems to me that nowadays the "morally gray" seems to be a portrayal hero, but he kicked a dog that one time and that makes him "morally gray". Here, you have people that do some good (fighting evil corpo), but also the despicable (kidnapping, selling bodies, not of their own), and not just in justification that it's done for "the greater good", no, that's just how they roll, they find it easier to gain resourses this way. I guess one can argue that "morally gray" in itself is poorly defined, but, as I discovered as a child, if you look from afar at a checker board, you'll only see gray, and that's how I see gray morality - good and bad packed so tight, you can't see it at the first sight and you need to take a real close look, to see where one ends and other begins. My other thought is: isn't that how actual criminals are? Mostly, if not completely, normal people outside of their "work", having no qualms about what they've done, how many they've hurt, tortured, killed. There were quite a few games in the past that made player "the evil", but usually, it's parody that not only usually purely slapstick evil, "the evil" that player plays ends up being more moral than "the good guys". Of course, there's also GTA, but even that doesn't go anywere beyond the "gangsta" culture promoted by the media. Funnily enough, Dohna Dohna does take a light approach to the evils done, much like those parody games, but takes on the subject matter that all other media are terrefied to touch with a 10m pole. Finally, to the people thinking this game glorifies/desensitize others to the "business" practises emplyed by the protagonists: a) Why do you (or think that others do) learn that struggle snuggle = bad, only after reaching 18 years old required to play this game? b) Why the fuck would take morality lessons from an eroge? c) Instead of going after media that can be used as safe outlet for unwelcome urges, go after people that actually practice it IRL. I hear HollyWood is a good place to start. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk, we're out of candy. Nice review Noisy Pixel, you guys are one of the very few outlets to review any game regardless of it being mainstream or niche or very, very niche XD.
Art style is amazing and characters are fun. Gameplay to boot makes it a stand out eroge game. I wish it was possible to have an all ages copy of the game to maybe port to Switch and one for those that don't like the heavy sexual content (might not be possible lol) Thank you for keeping eroge and visual novels in your lineup of games to review and report on
Unfortunately not possible. We ain't gonna be getting a console release considering the plot, and the gameplay (aside from the JRPG elements) literally revolves around sexual prostitution. Kinda a shame, woulda wanted to play on a PS4 or PS5 but it's VERY 18+ sooo....
Major spoiler (so please don't procced if you want to play it blind) I already finished the game, i can summarize the entire game is about taking revenge to asougi goverment and make people realize how fucked up is the asougi goverment. The people who already know it are making rebel group called anti-aso. Because they're illegal group, it's harder for them to get an income, so they started prostitution business with the "talent" they capture (i know it's fucked up, but what you expect from eroge game). I can't justify they action, but from MC persepctive, he and his clan doing it (other than money), he want to show the pure "talent" that asougi goverment and people in it also has a dirty secret (eventhought in a really fucked up way). Not to mention, the MC is still a teenager that fueled by revenge (his sister is used as lab rat by asougi), so for me i can understand why he do that. But what i really respect from the MC is his motives is pure to takedown asougi, so he just prostitute asougi citizen (he didn't prostitute outsider) and after completing the goal, he stopped doing it and try to get money from working or anything that not involved crime. I know this is not best resolution after what he have done, but i think it's still a good story than just regular eroge game. This game also make me imagine this is what citizen of china and north korea has been suffer all this time and this is how they rebels againt it (in eroge way)
PLEEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, WHERE DO I DOWNLOAD THIS? I CAN'T FIND IT ON STEAM, AND ALSO ON GOOGLE. I MUST BE A DUMB, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE! HELP ME
If this game generally interests you, but the explicit (and frequent) h-scenes put you off: you can deactivate h-scenes and CGs in the options. You're still pimping out women and get tons of below the belt VN dialogues and kinky outfits, but no complete NSFW stuff. The visuals, music, voice acting and gameplay are top-notch, so if the eroge aspect was, for whatever reason, a hurdle, don't miss out.
Loved the artwork, and the combat looks good, but it is hard to get a 'feel' for how the enslave & r*pe mechanics are handled. Review sounds like it is trivialized by the cast, yet is still horrendous (like in most media that depicts it). Though Rance seems to be mentioned positively here, I have heard it also has non-con content, what's the difference between Dohna's handling and Rance's?
I'd say Rance has a little more tact (if only a little) sometimes because there's no question the protagonist is an awful human being as is anyone who engages in those actions. Dohna Dohna shows the main characters as if they were just a bunch of young dorks who just happen to have picked this criminal activity as "business" (as if it were a reasonable choice at all) and you can't even ignore it if you'd like to just enjoy the "fighting the evil corporation" and "stylish art/soundtrack" part, for instance.
Out of all the alicesoft games it’s probably evenicle, a fantasy jrpg style eroge that has the most “tact” per say as in that game it’s at least only the villains that abuse others and the protagonists are rightfully angered by it, though it seems non con is a big staple in pretty much all alicesoft games if that’s a topic you’d rather avoid.
Thanks for the review! I saw gameplay of the battle system in japanese a few months ago and I was wondering what the name of this game was. Now that I know about the dark themes though, I'm having second thoughts about looking this game up
I agree (i still bought in a sale for 40) ... a VN fully voiced, with beautiful drawings with ok gameplay too have some budget by the company, and PC exclusive but can't release on steam, makes it nieche. But because it is the best game on the adult VN category probably still worth developing it.
Dohna Dohna was such a great game, it gave me a nice excuse to get a break from another game and dipped about 25 hours to beat the game in about 4 days. The writing was actually pretty good, and when it was questionable I chalk it up to how they just wrote ToraTaro, maybe there's some people out there who can tolerate the character, but how he is is just not for me. I give a slight pass to anybody else who broke the mood though, just barely tolerable at most. The 'merchandises' stories (Or unique heroines according to the wiki) I thoroughly enjoyed, and actually gave a refreshing break from the main story when I wanted away from it, found it extremely interesting how they adapted and genuinely got me curious and kinda wished there was more. Near the end, when they revealed who Izumi was made me genuinely hate the antagonist for what he'd done, and ruined the s scene (That while I didn't enjoy myself, liked the concept of) and just what she said and chose at the end made me empty, and feel sad for her despite what happened afterwords. I hope that whatever Alicesoft makes next they bring in another gold vein like this!
Ah shoot, I was really interested in this from the art style and looks alone, but kidnapping and selling people into prostitution is too fucked up for my taste. Nice review and thanks for the heads up!
Idk i’m trying to get into it but both combat system and hustling turn me off from playing it. Not that i hate turn based but it’s just too basic, from my point of view as trails player.
@All maybe because they know they are dealing with a japanese game store, that is not steam/sony california. So if they create a controversy, they would just boost sales.
Do they really just take this massively uncomfortable premise and not delve into its ethics at all? I think it'd be a much easier pill to swallow - not to mention more interesting - if the characters were given space to grapple with the relative immorality of the protag and Asougi Corp, or to what extent fighting immorality with immorality is acceptable, etc. It reminded me of SubaHibi somewhat, which was a deeply uncomfortable read at times, but at least those moments felt like they had some narrative significance somewhere in that crazy ride. Idk, maybe I'm asking too much from an eroge since I don't really care for the ero part :)
Well there was an npc girl you can kidnap, she was in complete denial that something like kidnapping and prostitution would never happen in thier city in which mc dared her if even one customer never touched her, he would let her go, after sometime hustling her to clients who would activate her events, a client from her neighborhood came and violated her and said nasty things to her, to the point where the client said she was a tool and the game directly told us she kept repeating in her mind that she was a tool, and the next scene activates when you talk to her and said that she finally understands that the city isn't as pure as she thought she had but she was still angry at mc and shouted him to leave, then came porno and asked mc if he had become soft, in which he replied no because he was doing it a lot longer and got used to it. Another event with medico, medico asked how could mc still laugh and slime while doing vandalism and kidnapping girls to sell thier bodies when they could do something else to take down the corporation (since medico is a character out of town she sees this as immoral) in which mc replied he had to force himself to smile since he needed too to take down the corporation, then mc said if there was hell, he's sure to gown down there without a doubt but he'll be taking down the corporation with him if it ever comes to that
No, what I meant was "I'm unsure how to process that the game manages to make it fun somehow". It's terrifying, absolutely terrifying how the best course of action there is to do horrendous things and the game manages to make it all about numbers, making it not so hard to detach yourself from the morality of it all if you want.
Pretty disappointed that this game revolves around these messed up themes. The mv for this game and its art was what drew me in. Didn’t realize it was another erotic…
@@ChromVsChrom neither do I, but that doesn't mean I can't play game that has it. That's the beauty of fiction after all. You get to experience a story through the lens of something only possible in a fictional setting. From the absurd to the deranged to the downright disturbing. Do you read lord of the flies and think "ah shit I don't like this book because I don't look at kids that way"?
This is fucked up. Am I missing something, or does this game amount to you playing as a pimp who forces adolescent (or younger) girls into prostitution? Please tell me there is some major revelation where the protagonist realizes he’s a monster. I don’t really trust whoever developed this to handle that appropriately. No, I didn’t finish the review because I couldn’t stomach it, so ignore me if he answers these questions.
Major Spoiler, the city of Asougi seems to be alienated, the higher ups control what goes in and out. They also have complete jurisdiction, they can turn a blind eye on the anti aso just so that the people will blame their dissatisfaction on the anti aso instead. It's in the story that he(MC) didn't force outsiders because they're not part of Asougi though his treatment varied.Near the end, Asougi turned out to know everything and had control over the anti aso, meaning they didn't respond to the human trafficking and even used the girls that the anti aso were prostituting. At the end of the day I think that the game doesn't glorify the ideology. The mc does it because there's not much any other ways, materials will only be supplied if the Asougi wishes to, and the Asougi only kept around the anti aso when they were getting bigger and attracting more attention.
@@RobotPlaysGames Kuma (the protagonist), at one point in the story openly states that he's very well aware that what they do is morally wrong, and that if you think about it its borderline insane. He's made peace with the idea that if there's a hell he's going to it, but he's willing to do so as long as he can drag the big evil corp with him down there. He often even states that he purely acts on logic and efficiency alone, and that's his coping mechanism to do the things they do and be able to keep going. Does that justify the behavior? no. Does that make for a compelling setting? yes. Is it entirely coated in a setting where 90% of the time it's just upbeat happy go lucky time with a colorful cast of characters, even though they're talking about doing horrible things to people? yes. But here's the thing, even then its entirely fictional, nobody in their right mind is going to (nor should they) think that an eroge should in any way be anything other than fictional. Not everything needs to be handled 'appropriately', it's not a allegory to real life (other than the idea that we give away too much power to big corporations). One of the beautiful things about fiction existing is so you can create outrageous, disturbing and ridiculous settings. Even if this was a game where you purely played a bad person for bad reasons who does things for personal gratification alone, would that be a problem? Sure you might not enjoy that type of game, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be exactly what it is trying to be.
Human sex trafficking is a very real problem, why would anyone want to trivialize it this way? I think the developers would have had a different viewpoint if their sister or little brother had been kidnapped and forced into sex slavery. Noisy Pixel, you guys can do whatever you want, but this is in extreme poor taste.
We aren’t saying that it’s not an issue. We’re just reviewing a video game. The character interaction are fun and the RPG mechanics are engaging. We also mentioned that we don’t agree with the premise.
I've always found it fascinating how murdering people in videogames is totally cool and politically correct, but simulated sexual violence crosses a line. At the very least these games offer exploration into darker aspects of human nature without subjecting real people to harm. While the morality of it all makes for an interesting debate, I think singling out this game as 'poor taste' is unfair
@@RagingHamster Killing 12 trillion people via a bomb does not register with us emotionally as we cannot 'place' ourselves in their position, being torn apart and dying in an instant is not something we can relate to. This is as opposed to harming and abusing 1 person in detail, which we are set up to empathize with (so Madmind's Torturer should be interesting).
Being able to separate reality and fiction is an important skill to have. It's how you can gun down hundreds of people without blinking in other games.
I will never support a game where a character forces young girls including a child (I can tell beacause her chest is flat) absolutely disgusting.. They are forced to comit sexual acts and theirs rape scenes which is really messed up.. People can defend the story but when it comes down to it the Creator of the game and the cast chose this as a story.. Pretty messed up if u really dig deep..

Another event with medico, medico asked how could mc still laugh and slime while doing vandalism and kidnapping girls to sell thier bodies when they could do something else to take down the corporation (since medico is a character out of town she sees this as immoral) in which mc replied he had to force himself to smile since he needed too to take down the corporation, then mc said if there was hell, he's sure to gown down there without a doubt but he'll be taking down the corporation with him if it ever comes to that
this game, we must have.
I Love the characters😍😍👌
Interesting!
u kidnap girls??
Oren Knoll
Marcelo Square
the rappe scenes is horrific
Trying this game...for research....
You're UNSURE of how to process the idea of treating human beings as merchandise...?
No, what I meant was "I'm unsure how to process that the game manages to make it fun somehow". It's terrifying, absolutely terrifying how the best course of action there is to do horrendous things and the game manages to make it all about numbers, making it not so hard to detach yourself from the morality of it all if you want.
Pretty disappointed that this game revolves around these messed up themes. The mv for this game and its art was what drew me in. Didn’t realize it was another erotic…

@@el_primer_y_el_ultimo_caimanI just don’t look at women like that. Especially with these types of heavy themes.
Say what you want about eroge, but Alicesoft knows how to produce a quality game.
So it's literally a game about trafficking.
*Nah I'll pass*
haha, we don't blame you.
@potato name well that’s something, I suppose
What's the matter with you people?
Good question
Tate Overpass
You people need Jesus.
W T F ...?
@@RagingHamster yep, let's not forget that games played by many children are about killing each other for fun and costumes xd
What in the entire fuck...?!?
It's funny that h scenes are the worst part about this game
Yea...no.
This game sounds terrible.
the lore of this game is deep tho, voice acting is hecking amazing, idk how they do that in H-scene
If you dig really deep? The game is blatantly about child prostitution. It's literally a porn game.
Video games don't cause violence
