Really considering to get this game, I like its minimalistic style, and when I play JRPG I like to mainly focus on “numbers”, so this might be worth a try. Thanks for the review and for showing actual gameplay.
Been debating whether to get this all day for Switch, love the art style, music is chilled, I'm a JRPG fan, but a plate of jelly could beat me in a maths contest lol Thanks for the review as there are barely any out atm for the game - will be diving in!
Thanks for watching. If you are a fan of the classic JRPGs then you will find this game fun. I also am no good at maths and have to rely on calculators, fortunately that wasn't an issue whilst playing this game :)
Really enjoying it so far up to floor 27, starting to struggle but I’ve managed to get the doggo with a sword in my party and seeing him bound across the map makes it all worthwhile!
I switched to having Elva as my party leader. It is fun having the muscular cat run across the board. I am keen to also see the dragon wandering on the maps too although seeing as it is level 80 it may be awhile before I find it in the labyrinth!
I’m level 65 floor 60 and my best advise is to ALWAYS solve puzzles because the rewards are well worth the trouble compared to shops and monster drops. Also later monsters break your equipment so always read battle logs and be ready to quit/reset the game (save scumming) when that happens. Not worth the hassle. Later you will get abilities to block these burdens. Also save scum every 10 floors after F50. The difficulty will spike and some rat roaming around loves stealing 10k gold per hit and got ton of HP/defense/magical defense. However, if you manage to beat it, you’ll be rich.
@@vaporizel From what I have played, I don't believe they are randomly generated. Especially as some of the events are clues to solving the different puzzles in the labyrinth levels.
I really wanted to give this a go, but looking at it reminds me of a simple version of Etrian Odyssey and I haven't even opened Nexus yet so I think I'll just stick with that for my dungeon crawling experiences. Perhaps if this goes on sale? Anyways, Subscribed for covering this game!
Thanks for the support. They have 20% launch discount, but if you already have other games in your backlog it may be worth waiting until a bigger sale if you are undecided on this game.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The d & d lover in me wants to try it out. It is kinda simplistic, but that’s ok. I do wish there were some basic art on the dungeon floors, maybe something to bring it to life. Well thank you for this review. It was actually relaxing with the music n all :) later
Thanks for the review, they're so few online. I saw you collect for the 3DS games, have you played any Etrian Odyssey games? I was looking to see if Dungeon Encounters felt similar to those games since I'm a massive fan of them.
It does not. The game is as barebone as possible to be called a dungeon crawler lacking any charm in exploration and encounters. It's challenging but no where near the complexity of Etrian Odyssey. Who you put in your party means nothing at all and are just avatars for your stats.
Thank you for your review, it helped me make the purchase to support the game. Sounds fun with its simple but effective gameplay presentation. Wish it had voice acting but that would require additional time & budget from the game developers which defeats the purpose of being a small budget game. Personally this game & Voice of Cards have piqued my interest these past couple of weeks, rpg players are having the time of their lives this year.
What would you want voice acted? There's no real dialogue. The only story comes in the form of an opening paragraph and character bios. While I usually like VA, it doesn't feel like something this game is missing out by not having. Hope you get it and have fun!
Agreed there have been a lot of RPGs that have come out recently so many games going into my backlog! This game does not have enough dialogue for voice acting, perhaps it could have benefited from some simple dialogue/sounds each character says when you look them up in the composition menu though. Might of made the characters slightly more personable. Voice of Cards has a demo available so I would check that out, there is about an hour of content in the demo.
@@disclaimin After so many recent JRPGs having really over-the-top combat chatter and "attack effort" lines (see: Tales of Arise), I'm actually really glad this game has absolutely zero spoken dialogue. Sometimes it's nice just to listen to the minimal soundscapes when mapping the floors too!
imo referring to the graphics as a minimalist design is being generous, this looks and feels like they polished an early build of an abandoned project.
This is on sale for 14.99$ on ps store right now and wanted to see what it even is. Thanks for the review. Im gonna give it a try, sounds addicting.
That is a great price for the game. I hope you enjoy playing through it
Thanks for watching my review! What are your thoughts on this minimalist visual style?
Not for me. I’d rather read a book, not a screen.
Looks more like a mobile game not a $30 game
@@Warghoul Yes this won't suit everyones tastes. Glad this review could help you make a decision either pick it up or avoid.

Interesting concept and approach to the minimalist RPG style. This one definitely flew under the radar. Nice find with this game.
Thanks, it really did. Also has a physical release in Asia for the switch if you prefer that over digital :)
@@Astralbeargaming I am pretty partial to the physical releases!

Thanks for watching. This game is bare bones but the combat is good and it is a nice edition to the genre. Maybe wait for a sale before picking it up.

@@Astralbeargaming I Will
How hard is it? I want to try it but if it's too easy nah
It can get rather difficult especially the further down the labyrinth you get.
I'm using cheat engine to make myself super rich, and even with that, some of the later missions and monster combos seem extremely dastardly.
I am always nervous my current party will lose a battle and it will be such a grind to get back to where they are in order to retrieve them!

I can’t decide if this game is brilliantly scaled down or brazenly flaunting it’s lack of effort
You look like a female version of Professor Severus Snape. No hate. Nice review :D
Thanks for watching it. Also Snape is the best character in Harry Potter!
