I passed selection back in January. I only ran to lvl 9.3 on the bleep test. I'd only practiced it a handful of times. I'm going RA. Either 7 RHA, 29 Commando or 5th reg RA. You could go into a light gun crew for a while, then apply for p company or aacc etc later on. Ultimately I want to be a Forward observer. I start basic in March. Good luck to you mate.

I was medically discharged from Catterick for a stress fracture on my hip, I was joining the Royal Irish, now 2 years later I’ll be able to rejoin In June, I’m going for the Royal Artillery then hopefully 29 Commando

29 Commando are an excellent outfit, superbly professional but ... you need to take serious care of that hip.
The All Arms Commando Course is brutal and unforgiving, best you start doing compensatory PT to strengthen, support and protect the area.

I was in the PWRR attached to the royal Irish in Afghanistan. Back then were the good times as you had ops to look forward to such as telic and herrick. Even now I’d choose infantry over other units as it’s just more fun but if you are going to go artillery join 7RHA. You’re a fit lad and should push yourself

I was an electronics tech attached to the artillery working on the UAVs. Got to do a lot of cool stuff like going to California, Kenya and a tour of Afghan. I think it depends what your goal is tbh. If you're more into fitness and the military side I'd say go infantry.

The thing about the ra is that you have the opportunity to go para/ commando trained.
Is this not possible in other infantry regiments?
@@OTGlads I believe it is possible, but the spots are usually reserved for support regiments such as the ra and the re

If your serious and want to push yourself, go RA. Once at Larkhall (phase 2) go for 5 regiment then push to go on your patrols course. If your good enough, you'll end up in 4/73.
Edit: read some of your comments. This course is nails. Most dont pass it. It used to be for experienced lads but they opened it up for new lads. Its worth it. If you like to tab, like the idea of a lot of field work and work ahead of the teeth, id suggest them.

@@OTGlads It sounds ally, but in reality you’ll work with perhaps 3 or 4 lads in a Observation Post (OP) which is essentially a man made hole which you live in for days or weeks on end observing and making notes on a target.
Your heart would have to be in to attempt and pass a course like that, you would have to enjoy living outside in a hole regardless of the weather otherwise you’ll never do it.

We do all the infantry stuff, if you want to do more field stuff go the commando or airborne route. Get a machine on your head and at the end of your army career, you’ve got a trade to bring some nice cash in with. During peace time infantry stuff is pretty dead anyway

When do you get to pick your job role i know over the phone they asked for 3 roles your interested in but do you pick your role after the assessment center?
Yes mate, you have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd job choices, then after the selection they let you know which jobs you met the criteria for to and then you choose

If you want to be Infantry the only sensible options are Royal Marines Commando or Parachute Regiment.
Anything else is settling for 2nd best from the outset!
Completely agree with you mate! They are the elite 👊🏻 i do have ambition to be a para one day potentially, however i am joining the Royal Irish because im irish and all of my family are irish, i want to meet more people for ireland and experience the community spirit they have in that regiment, its really just a personal thing i guess
Hi mate I have my assessment at the end of March I am joining the royal artillery I’m 16 going to Harrogate got any tips to get out running and any plans like what to do what days if u know what I mean 💪🏾👍🏾☘️
Fair play to you brother at such a young age too! Love to hear that man! 👊🏻 & honestly bro im in the same boat as yourself right now bud in terms of going in. But based on what i learned in the military college, running is whats done more than anything so make sure your getting those weekly miles in , right now im training 6 days a week and just trying to hit everything i know im going to be doing in basic training so like long steep hill reps, best effort long distance runs (5+ miles) best effort short distance runs (2k) doing press ups, pull ups and sit ups every day ( apart from rest day , where you should do nothing but rest and eat to aid muscle recovery!) , also weighted runs too, i use a 20kg vest but even if you just chuck anything like15/20kg in a bag thats gonna be good for training too man!
