Well, we are apparently talking about dirfferent things. Actually, USMC boot camp is a place when any boots are destroyed during daily hard training and bloody marches. But I was talking about 5 years of "shelf life" for UK boots. So the nitrile rubber material of the out-sole starts deteriorating without any stressy loads and use at all. Some people ask, why very good UK boot's top (very comfortable and good in quality, in fact) is combined with such poor out-soles... I think, the answer is in commercial peculiarities of ordering the boots - they prefer to order new batches of boots rather than making repair of old ones.

It would be nice if it was easier for civilians to get new military boots, I have a old pair for paintball and dirty work, They are still in 1 piece(but dirty) after a couple of years, and each winter I buy new boots because they keep destroying themselves because of our Canadian winter. Found some relatively unused Swedish military boots after doing 6 shops, It's like the "fashion" industy does not want men to have nice looking yet tough boots that can handle -30 degree winter with the salt and acidic carbonated slush covered road

It’s silly because in the British army, due to experience, we have multiple pares of shoes for different things. Like our blues uniform (smart parade uniform) has a separate pare of smart shoes you need to keep polished. And then your combat boots for the combat and getting dirty in.

@@patriot4786 it's advertisement don't think they will be able to fit all of that into a short message towards civilians plus they are just capturing the main parts as in him walking to the recruitment office then to him being given his boots as that time when you are issued your kit that's when you have now transitioned from a old civilian life to a military life

true. the old fixed sole ones. the taller ones that were issued up until the late 80s or early 90s. they were built to last. not like these ones.

British Army usually issue Haix and Altberg boots. They are designed for colder climate and usually last longer, but also weight a bit more.
