This is a great science song. First, wonder at the world. Second, realize the methods you're handed from earlier scientists are not good enough, so invent new tools to keep pushing forward. Third, resolve to perfect those tools. Fourth, a bit of despair as you realize there'll always be more questions and you can never answer everything. And finally, resolve to accept the data and results you get, even if they offend you or contradict what you were told as a child. In other words "I will not hide my eyes. I will never look away."
Wish these guys would make a comeback. Still my favorite steampunk band of all time. Absolutely underrated and the songs still give me chills. Actually vividly remember this song releasing while I was in middle school. I was so fucking excited to see a new song had released and was not disappointed.
Imagine being this scientist in the steampunk world of machinists and alchemists. He is trying to discover the answers to the largest and smallest things in existence through the unaccepted practice of scientific method. Eventually being shunned out of society, cast out to the sticks, and made as a fool, and all the while, he passionately tries to find the scientific answers, if not for the world, then for the sake of at least his knowledge. Its more of a drive to insanity through the wrath and eyes of society than true insanity here, which then sheds a new light on the other two characters in the mad trio.
Cool but how can there be alchemists ( rudimentary chemists) and most importantly machinists (mechanics and engineers I suppose) without at least a beginning of scientific method?

Some truths won't be betrayed
