There is a certain energy with this song. It's so raw, yet so mechanical. Like ya get the sounds of the ticking clocks and gears, but u also get the reverb of the acoustic guitar. Like you still get the hum of an overstrung guitar string with the perfection of the clockwork. Also the lyrics add another layer of realism. From a musical standpoint, it's near perfect!

Kate Roy; i do that too XD i love this song!! it´s truly maquiavelic , i mean, the apprentice knew that Mr. Mc Arthur would know he did it, but he would have no proof, so he´ll be inevitable ruined and on top of all, he would have to live with the shame of being understimated and labeled as an incompetent by everyone,...precise like a swiss clock and permanent; with no posibility of being accused, and just in case, he would have the perfect alibi to make whoever investigating him waste enough time checking on the clockwork machine to give him enough time to left the town ...assuming that we only count with Victorian Era´s investigation methods and knowledge, it can b very probably the so called "perfect crime", isn´t it? ;)

That Mr. McArthur's looked all over town,
But he won't find me now for I'm off coastward bound.
And I'm trading the smog for some fresh salt sea air
And he'll never catch on that I'm there.
I once was his apprentice, in the clock-making trade,
And the miser made me work for every penny of my wage.
'Til he found he could replace me with a clockwork machine,
And he threw me right out on the street.
I'm not the kind who would grovel and pray
That he deign to recant and permit me to stay,
So I cursed him and left and I solemnly swore that he'd pay.
Now Mr. McArthur has very poor eyes,
And he never did see me when he left work at night.
And once in a while he would forget to check
That his workshop back window was closed.
No I'm not a burglar and I'm no vandal nor.
The old man had to suffer, but I wanted something more:
I wanted him to feel it and know it was me,
And I knew that his clocks were the key.
I sat in his workshop, my thoughts running wild,
And it suddenly hit me, and I looked up and smiled
For I knew that I'd have him and I knew that I'd do it in style.
    I tell you that clockwork's a powerful thing;
There's a terrible strength in those tightly wound springs.
And a gentleman's pocketwatch stays by his heart,
And that's where the damage can start.
Now I'm no machine but I can work when I choose,
With hands good as any when I've something to prove.
So I stayed up all night among cogs, springs and screws,
And I didn't stop 'til I was through.
I rigged up a watch to do more than just chime ,
And I didn't balk once at the depth of my crime -
A most perfect invention that still kept impeccable time.
The next week a young man stopped by in the shop,
Took a shine to a timepiece and paid on the spot.
He wound it, and wore it, and at 6 on the dot
He came to a messy and permanent stop.
Now Mr. McArthur's got blood on his hands,
And he barely made bail, he's a ruined man,
And surely he knows who his downfall was planned by,
It's all worked out like clockwork.

    • @hexazalea1793
      @hexazalea1793 8 років тому +1

NextPageGaming - Spring razors are the same idea but they're spring wound wires that are strong enough to slice through people. so basiclythe watch would release a ton of extremely sharp wires at a high speed which are deadly when they go off by foot let alone your heart. That said it should be noted dishonored isnt steampunk or clockwork.
over all its all about whale oil so it kinda qualifies more as gaslamp and not the other too. maybe dieselpunk really really dieselpunk. Oh and the whale oil is glowing blue and the whales aren't actual whales....
Its hard to pindown but theres no steam so people should stop calling it steampunk. But incorrect termiinology is just my petpeeve so what ever.

I absolutely love The Clockwork Quartet. Each of their (admittedly few) songs tells a amazing tale, and can almost be interpreted as story telling AND music. Most (notice how I said most) of the music genres today *cough* pop *cough* feature singers complaining about how their boyfriend/girlfriend breaking up with them, only to then sing about in their next song the latest bombshell they picked up. Steampunk FTW!

@@bavarianbanshee Yeah, that's true. I always thought about the lyrics near the end "He came to a messy and permanent stop". That sounded like a time bomb to me.

The song is about the industrial revolution but today we live in the AI revolution which is very much the same.
Industrial "The transition from creating goods by hand to using machines"
Today - "The study of intelligent systems that could execute tasks and activities that would require human level intelligence."

On the other hand, I happened to be listening to the soundtrack from the Myst game series when this appeared out of the blue. Clockwork Quartet is very unique and has a Myst-like feel.

There's a movie called Steamboy that's pretty great. An anime that is in progress with steampunk-elements is Attack on Titan, or Shingeki no Kyojin if you wanna be fancy.
An older anime called Samurai 7 also has some steampunk elements.
