Fireworks is just magic Sung Tongs is maybe my favorite, but their EP “Prospect Hummer” is one of the best things a person can listen to. Immediately peace inducing. Highly recommend diving into their EP’s.
anco is just one of those bands that has a completely different style each album, I highly recommend their albums Feels, its my personal favorite. And a non anco record you should absolutely listen to is Quelle Chris's Innocent Country 2
You also need to listen to Safer, which is the b-side to Peace Bone, but should have been the best song on the album. I also highly recommend the Water Curses EP that was released between SJ and MPP.
I thought for years that Safer was the closer to Strawberry Jam because that’s how it used to be listed on Spotify, I agree it would have been the best track on this album.
what the fuck i was literally just about to search for strawberry jam reactions cuz i was listening to it this morning and then this popped up in my recommended. check out feels next, that album is life changing (on shrooms)
AC is the sort of music I really fell i love with on my own, walking my dog or riding the bus to school or work. Maybe a little high when walking my dog. In any case its really something I associate with liminal spaces, going from one "place" to another
Fun fact: If you've ever seen the [Woman Vocalizing] [Man Speaking Backwards] meme , that's Animal Collective playing Number One on Conan O'Brien. Also: lol they played Number One on TV. The next Animal Collective thing you should check out is their visual album/Horror movie ODDSAC, which is free on UA-cam. They've always been heavy on the visuals to the point where the movie's the only way to hear the album.
If I remember correctly, the album name came from panda getting strawberry jam on a flight and telling Avey he wanted to make an album that sounds how strawberry jam tastes.....or something like that.
I think you would really enjoy their album Feels, my second favorite after this one. It's a bit more chill and takes you to an entirely different place, it's very ethereal. Love your reactions!
"Cuckoo, Cuckoo" is about the miscarriage of what would have been Avey Tare's first son. ("How I lost my boy") Also, there are three people who sing in Animal Collective, primarily Avey Tare (the screamy guy) and Panda Bear (the more Brian Wilson guy.) "Cuckoo, Cuckoo" is an Avey Tare song, whereas the next song, "Derek," about failing to take care of a dog in one's 20s and being worried about being a new father, is a Panda Bear song. He's not anxious about having a new dog, he's anxious about having a daughter!
I remember listening to this on LSD and watching the cover appear to actually melt in front of me. Of course it was beautiful but I actually picked on on the gruesome aspect of it as well.
Where did u get this miscarriage info from lol. The only thing ive heard about the source of the album title was Panda eating Strawberry Jam on a plane and they wanted the music to be as sweet and synthetic
Love this album so much. It's like the thoughts that went through my head when I was 6 and sugar high, alone in the backseat, caught in existentialist thought loops
Lol when they were promoting this album on Conan of all songs they chose to play #1 which I never understood. Very AnCo move tho. If you listen to any more AnCo I’d probably say check out Feels or Sung Tongs ✌️
You should listen to some of the classics like The Beatles, Dylan, Cohen, Bowie, Lou Reed, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Stooges, The Clash, Ramones, etc. Btw I love your reviews!
Thanks for your content, it's very pleasant to watch as your energy and vibe seem so authentic, open minded and relaxed. Also love how you approach music in general. Found your channel through The Cure's Disintegration album review, for me it's one of the most perfect albums with such a unique, mood and atmosphere throughout the whole album, not to mention the amazing quality of production and song writing. Trust me, it gets even better with some more listening times.. Much love brother
amazing review man!! a good recommendation for this album is the song street flash by the band on their water curses ep which they recorded during this era!
spirit they're gone > feels > sung tongs > strawberry jam > here comes the indian > campfire songs > merriweather post pavilion > danse manatee > centipede hz > time skiffs > painting with
Definitely my favorite Animal Collective album, Cuckoo is probably my favorite, but it makes me cry at this point, so I don't listen to it much. This is just one of those albums I can listen to anytime, could live without track 2 - Unsolved mysteries and track 6 - #1, but all of the other songs are simply a part of my soul.
Loving these reaction videos, so much nostalgia for me! Here are some recommendations of albums I was absolutely in love with when I was around your age. Blond Redhead - La Mia Vita Violenta, Guided by Voices - Bee Thousand, Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Cocteau Twins - Treasure, Yo La Tengo - Painful, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone - Etiquette, I should stop there, could go on & on.
A song like #1 is almost meant to not even read the lyrics to that because when I heard it the sound was like eerie nostalgia and pretty beautiful but reading the lyrics while I listen gives me too much context almost
Hey great analysis and thoughts. Super hard hitting and cathartic album. This album is viewed by the band as their least favorite to make. I'd strongly recommend checking out the EP Water Curses and the epic B-side Safer. They are songs from the same batch of material as SJ and really worth listening to to get the whole picture of the SJ era
check out mezmerize by system of a down, if ya like catchy guitar riffs you'll love this album, or the lamb of effigy by Sprain. two incredible albums both VERY different
thank you blessed smag so on unsolved mysteries the jack the ripper thing is kind of about the little kid from the start growing up to be a murderer. #1 is kind of about divorce
I'm so sorry you had to start with MPP. That's their second least good album. You really bit your balls pausing between songs. Plus, you hear a song say it's not the words that you should follow, and then you try interpret the lyrics.
Sung tongs must happen
But the live Pitchfork version of Sung Tongs 🤤
ua-cam.com/video/FMPWllOnRjQ/v-deo.htmlsi=e2C9YY9X4vMdWf-E
Agreed. It would also be fascinating to hear his thoughts before and after watching the live 2012 recorded performance for Pitchfork!
agreed
agreed
I think he should go in order at this point, Feels is next, then Sung Tongs
"This one is peacebone" *peacebone starts playing* "oh..."
I WHEEZED
The disappointed "Oh" at the post bone fish synth noise that starts the album... classic
That’s what hooked me into watching the whole video tbh lol
I literally read your comment and heard the "oh" I´m fkn crying
Fireworks is just magic
Sung Tongs is maybe my favorite, but their EP “Prospect Hummer” is one of the best things a person can listen to. Immediately peace inducing. Highly recommend diving into their EP’s.
Anco is my favorite band of all time and Im reallyy glad you reacted to Strawberry Jam :)
Also the Jack the Ripper metaphor in Unsolved Mysteries is just the fear of raising a child and later on in life doing unthinkable things.
anco is just one of those bands that has a completely different style each album, I highly recommend their albums Feels, its my personal favorite. And a non anco record you should absolutely listen to is Quelle Chris's Innocent Country 2

Water Curses (the song) goes harrrddd
Indeed. Safer is just a top 5 AnCo track
Speaking of fall, AC's 'Fall Be Kind' EP is a masterpiece.
“What Would I Want? Sky” is one of their best songs, love their songs where it morphs from a dark, psychedelic beginning into a fun, optimistic jam
@@joshm.1483I got to see them live years ago and I remember everyone was screaming along to what would I want sky, and it was so emotional 😭🙌🏽
also panda bears "person pitch" is amazing aswell
what the fuck i was literally just about to search for strawberry jam reactions cuz i was listening to it this morning and then this popped up in my recommended. check out feels next, that album is life changing (on shrooms)
almost every album is life changing on shrooms though
Literally was like “Is it Strawberry Jam? At last?” And it was 🎉
AC is the sort of music I really fell i love with on my own, walking my dog or riding the bus to school or work. Maybe a little high when walking my dog. In any case its really something I associate with liminal spaces, going from one "place" to another

Is there
He's collecting the animals :0
If I remember correctly, the album name came from panda getting strawberry jam on a flight and telling Avey he wanted to make an album that sounds how strawberry jam tastes.....or something like that.
Chores is probably one of my favourite Animal Collective songs. I shared all your enthusiasms.
"Feels" is their best, it’s their masterpiece
Facts
Dub
Yeah. I like Strawberry Jam and MPP but I grab for Feels when I want Animal Collective.
fireworks is my 3rd favorite song of all time. i think the power isnt a specific emotion, rather it just sounds like pure emotion on all fronts
I think you would really enjoy their album Feels, my second favorite after this one. It's a bit more chill and takes you to an entirely different place, it's very ethereal.
Love your reactions!

Sorry but I thought I remembered panda saying he was high or some shit on a plane and the lil packet of strawb jam was like 'woah' to him
@@gridow5880 Yeah I believe that too! I also believe they like the double meaning of "jam." These guys usually work on multiple levels at once.
Where did u get this miscarriage info from lol. The only thing ive heard about the source of the album title was Panda eating Strawberry Jam on a plane and they wanted the music to be as sweet and synthetic
No one actually knows what Cuckoo Cuckoo's about.
now a food review by smags, he can do everything 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Right! This was my jam 🔥🤘rock on
I get it
I was just Reading those comments recommending AnCo💀💀💀💀💀
Bro you do the best albums, I like your reactions/reviews, you know music and you are passionate about it, keep up the good work
5k goal crushed!! Very happy for ya Smags! 6k soon to come 🙌🙌
Suggestion (I wonder what it is): Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Love this album so much. It's like the thoughts that went through my head when I was 6 and sugar high, alone in the backseat, caught in existentialist thought loops
Even though most of the songs are about the anxiety of being a new father or the agony of losing a child to miscarriage?
@@Bringadingusthey 100% invoke childhood nostalgia though, avey himself has talked about that as a prominent element in his lyrics
@@Bringadingus yea ofc what were u thinkin about as a kid ? single dads club hype hype
The smile at "frightened babies poo" 😅
Love seeing people listen to animal collective I wish I could listen to it for the first time
Hope you listen to more AC. One of the most unique bands in any decade. This is one of the essential listens for me so you are off to a good start.
Oh wow its my favorite AnCo album
Lol when they were promoting this album on Conan of all songs they chose to play #1 which I never understood. Very AnCo move tho.

React to more animal collective! This was great. Also, their b-side ‘safer’ is a more proper ending to the album
Thanks for your content, it's very pleasant to watch as your energy and vibe seem so authentic, open minded and relaxed. Also love how you approach music in general. candy claws - ceres and calypso in deep time. super underrated shoegaze

Where would you put Isn’t It Now?
"What the fuck are they talking about" is pretty accurate
YAYYYY LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Definitely my favorite Animal Collective album, Cuckoo is probably my favorite,

for reverend green, forever in green. they do that kinda thing a lot.
tripping!!! Thanks, Smags!
Gotta check out feels at some point
Animal Collective is less about the lyrics and more about the unique sounds, atmosphere and how every song is something never heard before.
Great video!
STGSTV will change your life.
During #1 - "What is like happening?" Hahaha
You gotta do Mezzanine - Massive Attack
Keep it comin Smags
Love this album❤️, you should def check out nowhere by Ride. Amazing album
A song like #1 is almost meant to not even read the lyrics to that because when I heard it the sound was like eerie nostalgia and pretty beautiful but reading the lyrics while I listen gives me too much context almost
haven't heard this in full yet, hope you had fun with listening to it
‘Mourn’ - Corbin AND ‘The Girl, the Cat and the Tree’ - Lausse the Cat
Fireworks and Winter Wonderland are my favorites off this album. Great listen

For someone who likes to interpret the lyrics, going from Pixies to Animal Collective is a bit of an out of the frying pan, into the fire situation.
Check out Daniel Johnston! Especially “1990”!
Can you react to other king krule album too? Really waiting for The OOZ reaction
FOR REVEREND GREEN AH YEAH YAH!
For a good time listen to THE MEADOWLANDS by the Wrens, who along with Animal Collective were probably the best live act I saw in the mid 00s.
SUNG TONGS OT FEELS NEXT!!!!
alrightttt okaayy ill subscribeee
For reverend green is a track that hits when it hitssss
Feels!
you should definitely listen to their album sung tongs next
Please react to Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta
Incredible prog Rock Album!!

I'm so sorry you had to start with MPP. That's their second least good album. You really bit your balls pausing between songs. Plus, you hear a song say it's not the words that you should follow, and then you try interpret the lyrics.
