If you enjoy Animal Collective you should check out the album Person Pitch by Panda Bear, one of the members of AC. It's one of the best albums of the 2000s.
I didn't see anyone mention this but a cool fact: the piano used for this album was an old one that had naturally fell out of tune and instead of getting it tuned to record, the band just tuned their instruments (or whatever you call the digital equivalent) to match the piano.
here's some sauce to make it extra cool: the piano they had at the studio wasn't out of tune, but the piano on their minidisc demos was, so they hired a professional piano tuner to detune the one they had at the studio to match the demos. when the guy was done he stood up and went 'there you go, the piano's perfectly out of tune.'
Excellent. Wish more people reacted to AC because they are quite good at exploring the boundaries of pop. MPP is their most commercially accessible album BY FAR. They’re not infallible by any means and much of their output I don’t care for too much but this album is stellar. Check out Safer, a b-side from this era. Watching them perform it live was like witnessing consciousness evolve in real-time. And if you like this you’ll love Sung Tongs too, what I consider their best. Your edits were hilarious btw and Sublime? Good people know good music when they hear it!
I have been really enjoying the AnCo stuff so far, so I’m very excited to keep going with there discography! It is very likely that I’ll do more stuff on them in the future. Also thank you so much :)
You need to react to person pitch by panda bear, a member of animal collective. It is my favourite album of all time and is ranked among the best material anco/side projects have ever put out. The soundscape on their is phenomenal
first off, this is such a great video :) and something i found interesting about flesh canoe is that it was written by avey tare (david portner, who does most of the lead vocals and writing) about panda bear (noah lennox, the one who’s always harmonizing and leads songs sometimes). it was inspired by a kind of very deep and intimate platonic love that only comes from being incredibly close to someone else, to the point where you don’t even need so say anything to each other in an everyday sense- you just ‘know’ them. of course, it ended up also incorporating feelings towards his girlfriend, so it also conveys romantic love. but i appreciated the song more after finding out that it’s a very raw expression of love for a genuine friend that basically transcends just being a friend. anyway, please do give strawberry jam a listen sometime! it’s an interesting new route off of what you’ve done already. (fireworks is an all time favorite song of mine). though something to keep in mind with this album is that it’s now as lyrically explicit/ straightforward as feels and mpp- you have to listen a lot and dig in to kind of unravel what’s there. so please don’t be put off if you feel it sounds like nonsense! it gets much more experimental sonically and some people don’t enjoy that. i would recommend looking into the inspiration / concept behind the album while diving in- i remember that it gave me a bit of perspective when i was in the early stages of listening. your videos are great, by the way- i love how much respect you have for the music you listen too! glad to have found your channel :)
Thank you so much that means a ton!! :)) That's also super interesting, and honestly it's really cool to see how much it goes past a surface level reading lyrically. Makes me appreciate it more for sure. Also yeah! Imma do more AnCo stuff for sure and that's definitely a good tip for SJ :)
Great Reaction!! I did not like the album on my first listen but when Turn Into Something started it fully clicked with me and its fucking amazing. Go for Strawberry Jam next its just as good as Feels and Merriweather Post Pavilion. Edit: Daffy Duck(my least fav) just made me ascend in a way I cant not explain...... Just wanted to mention that
Love the Animal Collective reactions! There aren't enough of them. Sung Tongs is my personal favorite of theirs, so that would be my pick for the next reaction. Cheers!
Dude. I love this album so much. Feels and Sung Tongs are forsure my favorite full length albums of theres. They have so many little EPs, but Campfire Songs, and Prospet Hummer are honestly two of the most beautiful EPs I’ve ever heard. Their sound forsure does change every album. The atmospheres that they can create are unreal. Love your reaction man! I remember my first time hearing this album too.
If you like the atmosphere I’d highly recommend their EP Meeting Of The Waters. They recorded it in the Amazon using field recordings of the jungle, great songs and atmosphere
Dude I absolutely love watching this. Been struggling lately with my mental health and this gave me a lift. I cried a few times, especially after your reactions to Banshee Beat and Loch Raven :)
Love this album. I was obsessed with The Purple Bottle for a long time. I legit listened to it 10x in a row on multiple occasions 😂 I notice you describe some of the sounds you're hearing as weird. At some point in the future, especially after you listen to more "weird" music this won't be weird at all to you! There's definitely some stuff that I've had to pass on for the meantime and revisit (sometimes multiple times and several years later lol) when my mind and ears were a bit more open and receptive. And I'm glad I did because otherwise I'd have missed on out some amazing stuff. You're doing a great job with these videos! Your reactions are so funny and your editing is the cherry on top 🤣 Too funny!
The Purple Bottle is really greatX Yeahhhh to be fair I’ve listened to much weirder music lol. I guess that was just my gut reaction, but I do like weird. That definitely makes sense though. Thank you so much!! :)))
I love Animal Collective! I got hooked on Merriweather Post Pavilion, and then stayed a fan since. It took me a little while to get into their entire discography, but I really like (and really love) all of their albums :)
This is so enjoyable to watch. Anco albums can be really difficult for people to sit through all the way in one sitting so props to you for keeping an open mind 😊 also V excited for you to continue discovering the gems throughout their discography. I know people are making a thousand suggestions for you, but PLEASE listen to Tikwid asap. It's has all the best aspects of this album.
Love your editing! Really spices up the usually boring reaction content. If you really wanna just say "fuck it" and go balls deep into Animal Collectives discography I'd recommend Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. I think it's their best album. Some of the catchiest songs in their discography in my opinion.
Spirit they're gone has catchy songs? I don't think they're mostly catchy so I would disagree and suggest you wait for that album you may not like it and it's more of a historical documentation of their early stuff for some.
Bjork-Vespertine, Devendra Banhart-Nino Rojo, The Mars Volta-De-Loused in the Comatorium, Radiohead-Kid A.....Along with Feels are albums that I feel like create very special atmosphere.
Ahhhh, I haven't listened to Niño Rojo in so long. I need to change that! I got to see him live once in '05 or '06. It was so much fun. Very awesome. Also, glad to see someone else recommended Vespertine!
@@ijustneedmyself Devendra's newerish records Mala and Ape in Pink Marble are really good. He also put out an ambient record with Noah called Refuge last year I love. Vespertine is an all time favorite for me, made me fall in love with Bjork.
ur so cute omg i am loving watching this and im only on the first song. anco is one of my fav bands out there and to see someone have such fun genuine first time reactions to such great music is such a treat to watch!! much love
You will LOVE their EP “Prospect Hummer” It’s only 15 minutes, but every song is the dreamy and drifty stuff. I listen to it whenever I want to feel meditatively calm
Didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I did but I find it really cool seeing someone react to what I think is one of the greatest albums of all time from my favorite band. Glad you enjoyed it!! Be sure to check out al of Panda bears solo work and then Avery and deakin. My #1 album is tomboy from Panda. Also with there music, as I am sure you understand if you listen to enough music, is how much the music changes the more you listen to it. Especially with these boys. I first listened to tomboy when I was on the bus heading to middle school and I Hated it. All the songs sounded the same. Now I am 27 and its been my favorite album for over a decade!
Not trying to be a dick, but it’s not Avery. It’sAvey. His real name is David Pörtner, and he came up with a name by imagining Davy as the first name, but then taking out the D, and then tare as the last name. Like tearing his name apart.
I bought this album on a whim from a record store on south street in Philly when I was there with my friends to see a Bright Eyes show, I'd never even heard of the band and just bought it off the album art I drove me and 4 other dudes back home to Lancaster PA playing it out of my Dodge Stratus sound system and we felt like we were tripping the entire time
Really amazing to watch you react, respond and smile to this album. This is the one from them that I’ve come back to most over the years. While MPP really is a perfect album in so many ways, I’m more attracted to how feels sounds much more like a band playing together in beautiful, cacophonous blooms. It evokes spaces and movement through them. You can really hear their hands and voices chiseling the whole thing into existence. It makes MPP sound a bit sterile and studio-made by comparison, though I also love it very much.
Banshee Beat is definitely in my top AC songs, Fireworks is a bit higher since I cried to it moments after being dumped and experiencing my first heartbreak
I've always viewed Feels as an album that tracks a relationship from the first moment you lay your eyes on her to the moment of downfall to coming out of it. Did You See the Words and Feels are about the moments where you first start to become and then explore infatuation, they feel like falling in love. Flesh Canoe and Purple Bottle explore the emotions of settling into a relationship but still being generally happy. Banshee Beat is about dealing with the collapse of the relationship and coming to terms with it, and Daffy Duck is a deeper exploration of grief. Turn into something is about coming out of your grief and living your life. Bees and Loch Raven are in between the songs they are in between but I've never really been able to get them conceptually beyond that. I really think that Did You See the Words, Grass, Banshee Beat, and Daffy Duck are some of the best songs ever put to music. But of course that might because they deeply explore emotions I personally think about more.
Wow that’s a great explanation. I kind of picked up some of that, but yeah I love the overall narrative. I still love this album and it’s been on repeat ever since I filmed this lol
I see Bees as being about the changing of emotions, with the bees being the emotions themselves. "So sudden, the bees. They came flying." Like a swarm, bad feelings approach when the relationship begins to fail. As for Loch Raven, I see it as him not wanting to let go of the relationship. "I will not give up on you." being repeated through the whole song is like an internal reminder that she is the one for him and he can't let that go.
If you like animal collective, you should definitely give Fantasma by Cornelius a listen!! Great reaction btw, I'm glad you loved the album as much as you did!!
you should check out strawberry jam and sung tongs as well for sure. Also some of their eps like prospect hummer, water curses and fall be kind from the same timeframe are just as amazing as their album counterparts !!
I think you would love "Prospect Hummer" by AnCo and Vashti Bunyan. Vashti is a really eclectic english folk singer from the 70s who traveled in a covered wagon and wrote sweet gentle songs about the countryside... she made this collection of songs with AnCo a few years ago and it is truly truly incredible. Really hope that you listen, it changed my life if a big way. I especially love the tracks "prospect Hummer" and "it's you"
it is so exciting to watch this video... I feel like I'm watching myself fall in love with AnCo for the first time... i'm truly so happy to see you starting your journey with this band. their personal projects (avey tare, deakin, panda bear) are also just astounding
@@kazv490 Hey thank you so much!! I’m very excited to get into all of the solo projects and stuff related to AnCo for sure. I feel like there is just sooooo much to get into
