I find it more adventurous to do this level without using hint monitors. For one thing, you get more points for finding the Emerald. Second, if you move quickly and get lucky, you can clear this mission in less than one minute and get a pretty high score. My best run this way: 0:48"32; 17740 points.
The two that I found were in different locations for me, is it different when you replay it or some other difficulty level? I don't understand what is happening.
Yes, on the story mission it's always random but on Pumpkin Hill, it's usually one piece at one hill (three hills). On hard mode, the locations will be fixated to the select spots and remain the same even if you restart.

I hate this level and you rock it. I really need to memorise those hint locations...
I love this level, probably because of the music.
I also hate this level because it's hard and confusing

I know im 11 years late, just to say that the sonic team gave the character with the best moveset the worst missions.
