Installing a Winch Isolation Relay Solenoid with Incab Switch

- In this video i install a winch isolation relay solenoid and an in cab switch into my 2012 Hilux. I used a 12v 500A relay which should do the job and shouldn't cause much power loss through resistance so i should maintain full power to winch when needed.
My reason for doing this mod is to eliminate the constant live cable running down in my crumple zone of vehicle, it also stops anyone mucking with my winch while its parked up.
Keep an eye in the comments below to see any update of this. - Навчання та стиль
Finally a fully comprehensive video on this instal. Exactly what I want to do. Yours is about the 12th yt video I've watched and the only one so thorough. Much appreciated!!! The illustration on paper was perfect. Happy wheeling out there, thnx from the US
Hey, such a nice comment to read, really makes me smile knowing iv helped someone out. Cheers for commenting! Means a lot
I am about to do the exact same thing. Can't imagine how people are comfortable with connecting heavy cables directly to a battery with no protection... pinch a wire and enjoy burning your vehicle to the ground... With this switched solenoid, you can easily go from "hot" to "not" with a switch in the cab. Plus, it's not expensive or hard to install...
Hey mate. I saw you commented on another video about the rear seat mod. I have the same issue with the rear seat hooks being too short at 42mm now.
How did you fix this??? I’m screwed now
Yea I was screwed too haha. I added a new piece of metal to the latch bit and put two small bolts to join it back onto the bit that’s left. 56mm is what I ended up being good for me, it’s a bit makeshift but does the trick
That’s how I would’ve done it too g
Oh perfect haha, we know it'll work good then hahah
Was the 500 amps solenoid enough to handle the draw of the winch? What size winch you’ve got there?
Hey, yea seems to work perfect iv used a a fair few times since the install and haven’t had any issues, granted I haven’t “maxed” out the winch on a pull with it tho yet. It’s a 12,000lb bushranger winch
Does your main cable from the winch to the relay have an inline fuse as well?
Nah no fuse in my set up. Haven’t had any issues yet.
How's the 12V 500A relay going for yah? Still working?
Hey, yep all sweet still works as it should!!
Yewwwww
Hey mate do you have the link for that isolator?
And What size wire did you use for the switch and isolator side of things cheers
Hey, so i got it from this link "trademe" if you're in New Zealand then great but if your oversees i think you'll have to find another place to get from but here it is anyway, you can see all specs etc.

@@Brainsneeze2002 So for the isolator to the battery i just went and brought a "Battery cable" not sure on specs but its the big one you'd normally buy for a the major negative or positive wires to your battery, this is because all the power runs through this when winching. As for the switch and other bits i just used 10a wire as there is minimal current needing to run through these. Hope that makes sense. Thanks
Isolation is good but would also suggest a fuse/breaker near the battery in case there is overload or short.
The big cable to the winch has a fuse in it. Is that what you mean?
