It amazes Me how many keyboard experts there are. Let’s see You do it & cover every single aspect of all winch wire ups. Yes there are somethings that could be done differently, but if You know that much about it, You make a professional video & post it on UA-cam. If your not sure always disconnect the battery when working on your car/truck - basic rule I was taught in the Army. Good effort Jocko. Keep it up Man.
Ive been looking to install my first winch. Will be going on my px2 ranger. This will be my go to vid for installation. The little things like finding a winch with a isolator switch and the housing breather are things I would of never knew to consider when buying a winch as first timer. Cheers guys I've learnt alot.
Great video Jocko! Just a handy tip when connecting and disconnecting things like this: when connecting, always connect the positive lead first and negative last. If you accidentally touch a ground with your spanner or ratchet you won't have a lightning storm on your hands. Same with disconnecting, always the negative first followed by positive last. Same reason as above. 👍🏼
Thank you for this video and releasing it when you did. . Just bought a bumper and winch and hated that I was not going to reach the spool release without opening the hood. Took 10 minutes to rotate the end of the winch and now it’s set up perfectly in the bumper!, Many many thanks from central Kentucky.
So to tension the rope you literally just do exactly what was shown on the video? And the rope just feeds itself back in the drum that nicely? I read you need to move it side to side while tensioning it to get it to wrap on neatly so now I’m confused. 🤷♂️
So far my ultrawinch has gone through 2 solenoids a Bluetooth connectivity system and it now looks like the replacement control box I received to replace the ond that failed has the same issue just clicks won't go in or out
Do you have any information on the installation of an air compressor and any maintenance of these additional tools such as the winch two way radio tyer deflator recovery kit and any thing else that I may have forgotten to mention thanks
Why woould you? The cable has the cut off to protect it. A fuse would only blow when the whinch gets close to stall, that could be in the area of up to 600A depending on the winch. Not seen too many 12v 650A fuses around.
Depends on the battery and set up, mine is to the larger secondary battery. If you have a DC inverter charger system aka a Dc-Dc or isolator charger, then run to the main vehicle battery, if you have a high power split charge, run to either the starter or second battery, it doesn't matter.
Basically the Cut Off Isolator Switch is breaking the circuit. "Potentially" there is only current to the switch, via the 300-400mm of insulated cable. User activation of switch only supplies circuit current whilst in use, switched by user, then disabled by user. Current draw whilst in use is too high for circuit protection. Basically, it's a user beware situation, monitor whilst in use and utilise Isolator switch to eliminate any pending arising issues. When winching finished, isolate circuit again at switch.
Battery isolator needs to be easily accessible, so not under the bonnet/hood (for you Americans). It would also be good for a emergency stop button on the bumper side, and a cut off internally both possible via a relay. Stop button needs to be accessible from immediately in front of the winch incase anyone gets trapped in there.
Doing this exact install now. Video is incomplete. Standard switch supplied doesn't fit hilux switch panel without modification of the panel. Not enough detail of where the control box and wiring/plugs, suggest likely because it was ugly in the end. Otherwise a good vid.
If it fails for some reason in the in feed position, it could cause a catastrophic situation, maybe even when you are not around to witness. Like maybe a sticky solenoid doesn't fully disengage.
i personaly have never done a isolater with a winch install but i can understand where they may need it. it would great as an emergency stop or if there is a short somwhere, you can shut it off and save the car from going up in flames. my last winch i did was faulty and got stuck in the retract position over night. it jammed up the rope, bent the fairlead tabs and drained the battery. got up the next day and had to take the other car to work🙄. sent it off and got another to replace it and all has been well. in saying that, had i used an isolater, i would never had known about the fault until i was stuck somwhere 😅 so im probably going to continue to do it that way. as long as my car starts, i know its good

A quick afternoon install means 3 days of hopelessness and swearing😅
Didn't notice any rubber insulator boots for the live terminals on the underside of the isolator switch?
I didn’t need to watch this because I got a i30 lol just supporting the channel. Cheers guys.
Surprised the cutoff switch does not come with caps to guard against an accidental grounding ⚡️
Jocko, get around to insulating the terminals of that cut off switch, that's a spanner spinning fireworks moment just waiting to happen, haha 😂.
Nice vid Jocko, gonna need to see the n70 on a trip soon aye

If you do it straight on an incline ie going slightly uphill, the the rope will naturally roll properly side to side. You don't need to guide it.
@@AdeWhite awesome! Thank you!
You failed to rust proof the hole you drilled in the inner guard 5:18
🤓
@rhysnguyen5463 he's right and there's a reason everyone knows to do it.
This is exactly how I mounted my winch. Bitta extra work, but the only way.
Is that the same isolator the caught fire in sooty

a silly question, did you roll it back in using the remote? and put the car in neutral?
Did you have any issues with lagging/bogging down after installing your airbox? My N70 runs really bad with my new airbox
If my winch didn’t come with a breather can I install one on any winch?
Where can I buy that red battery swithc? (in The Netherlands, Europe) Thanks
No fuse on the short positive lead from the battery?

Half of Australia will be going out looking for a tree so they can spool their winch up under tension this weekend.
Jocko, mate, didnt see the beer fridge on the picture board. just sayin.
Like the video Is it possible to install winch on rav4 2017?
Great 👍😃
So what is better connecting your winch straight to your main battery or your accessories battery? But great video as always!
Always to your main
Main. Want as much/constant power feed.
Yeah ok thanks guys, good to know

Good onya mate
Cheers jocko
Now show me how you replace your head light bulb with that isolator switch where it is.
Not seen a US winch with a breather
I wish my wiring was this neat lol 4WD Supa center winch is not this nice
Why isn’t there any circut protection? Just wondering not trying to be a expert cause I’m far from it

Good on ya mate ya make good videos
Jocko, if I did that I would end up with a winch that pumps air and 64 pieces left over.
tell shauno to call the farm truck the nauty40
You didn’t prime your holes you drilled, they will rust in no time.
I bet the car has completed its full life before it’s a problem
Not sure if I trust this guy i saw what happened to the other hilux, and that was just standard wiring
😂😂😂😂😂 i just shat my pants when i read this
Caught your acting debut in Cyber Bride. I hope you still do 4wd 24/7.😂
What an awful and obscure reference 😂
Can someone explain why you need an isolator for the winch? What’s wrong with having constant power to it?
It's a kill switch for the winch.
If it fails for some reason in the in feed position, it could cause a catastrophic situation, maybe even when you are not around to witness. Like maybe a sticky solenoid doesn't fully disengage.

Good to see more winches coming out with breathers ……but it appears to only have one for the motor and not one for the gearbox ?
The motor side is where the heat is generated. Hot housing hits comparatively cold water, and that is where the failure can occur.
You like to have your tongue hanging out of your mouth when you work 😂 like lot old school mechanics 👍
How come Jocko’s working on a Toyota?
Bc he owns it 🤷♀️
All of his vehicles are Toyota's.
haha. when isnt he?
"POSITIVE"
Jock really looks scottish doesnt he
Isolator's are just another fail point. You do not need them..
too good
and you don't even show how u connect to run incab control ????pointless video
What language is he speaking?
