  • This video will show you how to change the CV axles in a 92-95 Honda Civic. If you have any questions, please comment below.
    (Update. So as you can tell I'm just an at home mechanic not certified (licensed electrician however) but I've always had a huge interest in auto mechanics and grew up with a mechanic family. Made these how-to videos because I was frustrated looking all over youtube for specific answers that other videos weren't telling/showing at the time and I wanted to help others that had the same issues. I had to take a break from the channel because life hit and now I'll hopefully be able to start getting back into posting again so let me know what you'd like to see)

    Here are some pointers that I wish you had mentioned...
    1: You may have to use a breaker bar and jump up and down on it several times before the hub nut comes loose (I weigh 250 lbs)
    2: When the balljoint for the lower control arm comes loose, it will be loud as fuck and scare the shit out of you.
    3: Give a few taps with a hammer to remove the axle from the hub? How about get a heavy ass hammer and slam the fuck out of it till it's flush with the rotor, then continue to slam the fuck out of it using a 1/2" extension until it finally breaks loose.
    4: Whoops! What do I do about the snap ring having busted off inside the transmission? BTW it had been snapped off for a long time before I ever tried to remove the axle, but didn't discover so until removed.
    In all seriousness though, the video was VERY helpful, far more helpful than my shitty haynes manual. Very clear step by step instructions. I would recommend to anyone! :)

    Nice video brother! I’ve been a backyard mechanic for over 30 years and had always used a pickle(which isn’t always the best on ball joints). This is a far better way! Thank you!

    Hey what's up ppl. It's now close to 2019 I'm still fixing 96 civic 200,000 plus. Axel are sold pretty cheap (USA) . But you never just fix rubber or rebuild. Top of the line axels are right at $ 100.00. So if you take it apart always replace whole CV. So much more under there at this point it takes a commitment to keep going

    missed the exact piece I needed to see, seating the axle in the trans

    • @TheJuan7210
      @TheJuan7210  7 років тому +3

      Matt somethingorother basically you'll just slide the new axle back in the the transmission and line it up with the splines. You'll feel when it's lined up if you give it a couple shakes left and right and then just push until you hear it click in. You should be able to feel it as well when it pops in.

      @Agnostic Yes this is true. Like I said though I'm pretty sure I was doing other things to the car that day but the main focus of the video is how to replace the cv axles. As for setting the car on the ground to remove the cv nuts I did this with my other Honda and they were seized up. Besides that's why I have an air impact to remove them.

      Thanks. This video is so old and life happened I forgot I had made it. What year is your car? The filler hole is on the same side of the transmission as the drain hole close to the top on the transmission but still on the side. It should be a 1/2” drive ratchet or could be a bolt. Mine was a 1/2” drive ratchet. Hope this helps.

    Honestly I bought mine from autozone lol the car I used in the video was lowered. I might add if I haven't already in the video to check your inner and outer LCA (lower control arm) bushings. If they look bad I suggest replacing them since you'll already have those parts disconnected. If you have a torch and a press then your set otherwise I'd just take them to a shop and have them do it. Cost me around $30.

    Good Vid, no reason to take off the brakes or rotor or any of the arm, simply remove the lower ball joint nut, and swing the hub off (per FSM); prying the CV out of the tranny. (FYI - You can also pop off a ball joint with a hammer, striking on the side of the fork sharply)

    Is it easier to do this if the top ball joint is taken loose instead of the lower one? You say to drain the transmission fluid, at least part of it.

    I applied High-Temp Lithium Grease on the splines of both sides of the CV Axles.... will it have an adverse effect to any function or reliability of the car? (Like melt the Differential Oil Seals or degrade the Transmission Fluid?)

  • @MikeKollin
    @MikeKollin 5 років тому

    My mechanic Changed my Left Front Axle. And now it's pulling to the right. Before it was perfect. New Tires about 6 weeks, ran perfect, no pull, easy to turn, etc. Now it's pulls to the right and is stiff steering. And yes, I went to get Alignment done the next day after he changed Axle. Still pulls a bit right n stiff. Any thoughts? He says it's tread pull... but it didn't have tread pull before he changed axle.

    • @MikeKollin

      @@TheJuan7210 No it doesn't pull when braking. I don't have Power steering. It's the Base Model. Keeps it simple. After the alignment it did feel better as in didn't pull as much. Maybe I just need to get use to it. We rotated the tires front to back but it got worse! hahaha... I'll have them rotate it back cuz it was not as bad as it is now.... can putting a new axle make it stiffer?
