@@NewZeroland I enjoy it a bit, it’s interesting. I know you’re not the first, but I think there’ll be a lot more electric conversions happening soon, so the more documentation of this type of project the better!
Your channel has been a huge inspiration for my own electric vehicle projects. But more importantly, I treasure the atmosphere of your videos. They are fun, relaxing, and positive. And the specific content matters much less than your vibe brother. Make whatever videos you want! We will be here to watch!
The channel is you, not the bikes, batteries and other baubles, they're the props to to you and the stories. It's how you purvey your stories that keeps me here. I mean crikey, I couldn't stand those electric scooters, yet I watched and thoroughly enjoyed your vid on project scoot. I get them now and 'may' even admit to liking and wanting one (damit, lol) and all down to how you 'rolled' (pun intended 😁)with the story. Love what YOU BOTH do as is totally genuine and enjoyable to watch, keep up the awesomenessness, we need more kiwi's like you both on here, take care.
Thanks so much! Haha I'm glad you liked that scooter video. That video opportunity came at the perfect time, when I was starting to feel low about my electric motorcycle life. I'm not sure where my channel will go, but I'll keep making videos if you'll keep watching em!
I like your content and storytelling style. True, I started following because of the EV but I'm still excited to see what you do next. I like all things transportation and adventure.
Would love to see more videos of you just riding along, long leisure rides with those nice charging stops. Many be testing and reviewing more electric vehicles. ❤
Love seeing the sights from NZ and all the big n little adventures you n Jen go on. Even the day to day stuff you’ve found a way to make engaging. Think that might be why many are here supporting your channel. Content on the channel is gonna change but that’s ok. It’s the journey you’re on. You’re the storyteller, we’re just along for the ride. 🏍️
No worries. Thanks for the info about the speeding ticket/drivers license issue. Sounds like they’re no joke with speeding. Will keep that in mind while I’m there in December. No bike, just campervan for this trip but come on, who doesn’t love a little kitten speed every now n then😸
I am also here because of Zero and will stay for the knowledge, sights, and adventures of NZ. I'll probably never go to NZ, because it's about as far from me as you can get without leaving the planet. Thanks for letting us ride along.
Do what you love and share what you love about it. It's funny, I subscribed to your channel before I was interested in bikes because I was really into EVs; then decided I wanted to learn to ride bikes (eventually electric ones); then crashed twice whilst learning, and that really put me in a funk. I decided to restore and convert an old farm quad bike to electric which ended up being a sanity-saving lockdown project, a huge learning journey, and now a really useful tool I use around our property. I was so excited about your Energicar project because of this! One day I'd love to do the same with a small light car.
Honestly the car video are quite interesting to me, overall is nice to see your relationship development with motors (electric and non) and it's nice (at least to me) to see your journey . I can relate a lot
Cheers, Joe! I appreciate it :) Expect way more car conversion videos soon. I haven't given up on electric motorcycles yet either. I've just put myself in a very limited riding situation and I'm not sure how much more I'll do.
You gotta do whats right for you and those who cant handle it will take care of themselves. Keep up the great content regardless of topic. Enjoy watching the car conversion, just wish i was closer so i could help.
Hay man I watch the channel mainly because you guys rode the bikes around New Zealand on the holiday and to see how beautiful the place was then you got the car and that was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to see more of that, but at the end of the day you need to do what you want film what you want put it up I'll watch it mate.
People come for your Energica content, people come for your ICE bike content, people come for your EV car conversion content. But they come back for your amazing personality, stupid inside jokes, badass wife and genuine passion for life. ❤ Thank you again for trusting me with your EVA and your Beat! Blasting around NZ in a K car was a treat, the track day was icing on the cake
Duuude thanks so much! I'm glad I found an excuse to use your footage :D That was such a fun time! I'm bummed that we can't do it again on the Energicas, but hopefully they sort that out soon.
Well, I came to this channel because you had a Zero. Car conversions, Energica and even gas bike track days have not put me off. Turns out I enjoy your presenting style and New Zealand landscapes, as well as Jenn's great energy. When RichRebuilds stopped only focusing on Tesla, his channel became more diverse and more interesting (and more reckless, but that's another matter).
Your videos keep me coming back. You and Jen are naturals and you share interesting and/or funny content plus, of course, you live in such a beautiful country. I love hte Energica videos but, strangely, I am enjoying the Energicar videos too 😁
You know my feelings Sam. While I live your electric content, I don't watch your channel for that. I watch it because I enjoy your videos, your insights, your humor. If you decide to get out of youtube and move to other things that is ok too. I'll still big you on instagram. Just try and stop me. Muhahahaha
This is one of those channels that I don't expect constant uploads, but it's a treat whenever a new video drops as they're all top notch. It'd be neat if there were more modification stuff that you could do to the energica for content, but it's not like you can go get a new exhaust for it. I have seen videos of people basically jail breaking their tesla plaids to get a higher speed limit and open up more options in the program, but I'm sure that Energica wouldn't be too happy if you did that to their bike. If you could ever find a way to make it so that the speedo isn't always 10% over the real speed, making it show the actual speed of the bike, would be super handy though. For the mean time, I look forward to the Beat build as it's still making something awesome with Energica parts. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching :)
Thanks buddy! That means a lot. I'm glad you're still liking these videos and you're excited about the Beat project. The car is coming along and I'm way behind on videos haha, so expect lots of those soon. There IS a way to correct the speedo and even give our bikes more power... O_O..... but no, Energica doesn't want that info shared on youtube, so I'll just keep riding it as is I guess haha.
Sam, my italo-zealander friend, on the social media the 'product' is not the content, but it's you. We are here for you, and also Jenny, and you together are such a good vibe. I send a warm hug from Italy, you are always on my heart ❤️🇮🇹
Play country if that's what's working for you! You might lose a few fans, but if you put your heart into it, everything will work out! The worst thing you can do is give up because you're worried what others will think/do. Just do you, brother, and keep the rubber side down ❤
I found your channel watching the trip videos and really liked them so I watched all of your other videos. Film and post what you want to, you don't owe the people watching your content anything. We owe you for all the entertainment. Keep up the great work.
I honestly didn't end up here for bike reasons. Heck, I was not interested in motorcyles at all before I discovered your channel. I'm here for your content, Jen's eternal cheerfulness even when the weather sucks and her old Triumph breaks down again, and for the gorgeous NZ scenery. So even though the Energica content is missed, I still love following your channel. Keep it up!
I have a very similar story. I bought a Zero FX a little over a year ago. Absolutely fell in love with it. I know you know what im talking about when I say I loved my bike. I now have very mixed feelings about it. It spent almost a quarter of a year in the shop. I have been a motorcyle rider without a bike... I went through withdrawals, anger, depression and now acceptance. I could have bought 2x gas bikes for what I paid for my zero. I have serious questions about their reliability and longevity. Any time there is a problem with the bike, (every other month) I take it to the dealership. They dont look at it for 3-4 days, then they attempt (often unsuccessfully) to diagnose the problem. They email Zero for advice on fixing the problem. Then they figure out the problem and order replacement parts. The parts take 1-2 weeks to arrive. They take 1 whole day just to be recieved. Then 3-4 more days to schedule the parts to be put on and repairs to be done. Then it takes a week or more for the actual work to be done. It is a miserable process. Nothing gets done in less than 1 month. It has currently been in the shop almost 2 months and no one has even told me whats wrong with it. You need at least 1 other motorcycle before you even consider purchasing a Zero. You need something to ride when its in the shop for excruciatingly long periods of time. I highly recommend getting a gas bike and that is from someone who loves electric motorcycles.
Man I'm sad to hear this. That's a big reason why I never bought another Zero. Dealers are frustrated because Zero isn't helping them out. I hoped things would get better but they laid off a bunch of their production staff, moved overseas, and tried that shady Cypher Store scam. I fully agree with you on needing multiple bikes, but that can be fun too :D
@@NewZeroland Thanks man. It's just nice to hear someone talk about it. I've never even seen another person on an electric motorcycle. I loved my bike like one of my kids. Our evolution as riders is an adventure though. Trying to enjoy the ride.
I wouldn't mind you posting just whatever is happening. I'm currently selling my Energica since I mostly drive to work in my (electric) car these days and the time I do ride on two wheels I often pick an ICE. Haven't shared much on my English channel either.
The comments say it ALL. You started sharing life with an electric bike, and lo and behold discovered you're a ... GOOD STORY TELLER. Dude just go with the flow, you'll always have an audience.
Hey Sam and Jenn, your vids are awesome and its all about the story telling. Im not a huge bike guy, ie I cant ride but have loved watching the journeys you guys have had with yours. I kinda think of Sam a bit like Jason from Engineering Explained: smart, inquisitive, relatable and a cool, casual sense of humour. The EnergiCar project is awesome, anything engine swapped is going to entertain someone somewhere. I cant wait to see how you takle the rest of it. I'm Andrew, the guy who bought the Sera door struts off you next to Wellington airport a few years ago 😊
Man wow!! What a small world haha. Thanks for the support all these years, and I'm glad you like my videos! Do you still have your Sera?? I miss that car.
You have the only Electric Bike channel I watch, And I have come to enjoy the person behind the camera and the NewZealand scenery. Being a Brit, it's nice seeing you drive on the correct side of the road too. ;-) Please keep ya videos coming, Take ya time and create content YOU like to make. So what if it's every few months. Ride safe, Enjoy your self.
Hi Sam, I enjoy your videos. So I guess film what float's your boat and I'll watch it. I can imagine how losing your license must have affected things. Gas bikes on the track and Electric when you are touring or commuting. Your passion is electric so I guess feed it the best you can. I spent a month over there in NZ and thought of you and Jen a few times. Not sure I'll be back. 70 next year and as much as I miss NZ and family I cannot hack the long flights anymore. Always love your touring videos and will continue to watch your channel but it's also true everything has a beginning and it's up to you to judge if and when it's right to end. As said I'll continue to watch as long as you're on UA-cam. Take care! 😊😊
Gary! Thanks so much, man. As always, your comments brighten my day. I'm glad you had fun on your trip! Hopefully the weather wasn't too crazy while you were here. I'm planning another ride up to Auckland next weekend, so I'll keep the NZ scenery footage going.
i'm really into e-motorcycles, but an Energica costs S$70K here in Singapore! so, your channel lets me to live vicariously through your exploits. i'll keep watching whatever you do.
This has always been one of my favourite channels, you inspired me to get my motorbike licence at 47yrs old and order a zero FX but the but took too long for the certification so I got and old XT250 and learnt how to ride and pull that apart instead. You are the reason I got into light weight adventurer riding and love it so thank you. I did get a makita 40volt self propelled mower if that still counts, I would love to see you still provide electric bike news, reviews, shoutouts or the like to let people know what's going on in the industry from your perspective, for your consideration, many thanks.
Whoa awesome! That means a lot. Thanks for all that :D I'll try and keep up with somewhat regular videos but I'll probably shift to mostly car stuff. That project is going to take a lot of time.
I love everything you’ve done so far…please don’t stop! You’ve showcased NZ’s ridiculously good roads and charging networks. Maybe some real-world long-range Experia testing on some mountain trails?
Thanks Steve! Man if I can get my hands on an Experia in NZ I'll definitely shoot a video with it. Nobody has done a range test yet, at least not on video. If you keep watchin em, I'll keep making em!
I checked this channel out with an interest in electric bikes, also lived in welly for a bunch of years and its fun to see the sights. Stayed for the storytelling and the adventures. A good existential crisis never hurt anyone, right? When you find the direction you want to make videos about next I'll for sure be watching even if it's a hard turn from the norm. Funk away my brother you bring the cool beans and that's plenty
Sam, your content is engaging your style is inspiring. Your passion is infectious. Zero,Energica, travel vlog & car stuff all are enjoyable and interesting. I look forward to your uploads. I hope to be able to keep following your and Jen’s adventures.
Dude thanks so much! That means a lot. I have some cool stuff planned so hopefully you guys like it. Making videos is still fun.. I'm just not sure what to make them about haha.
Haha Jenn's faster than me now so there's more motivation to keep riding to catch up. I've been working on the car a lot so I need to catch up on those videos too! Soon. Very soon :D
2015 zero s owner, I came for the eletric, learned a lot from your bikes. Ill stay for anything, keep putting stuff out. Also thanks for the belt change video, i used it to put on a zero belt last month and she is back on the road.
hi Sam, the reason I started following you was because of the ev bikes, I stuck around to follow you and what ever you get up to on the other side of the world, it’s coming into your summer so any NZ adventures are welcome as is smiley Jen. Also looking fwd to your ev conversion. How about getting an interview with your local race track asking about why they are banning ev’s ? A local track near me have opened up to ev’s all they needed was for marshals to have ev related training etc.
Thanks man! That's it exactly. Tracks aren't prepared for potential battery fires and they're dragging their feet about it. I reached out and got something in writing confirming that our local track won't allow electrics for a minimum of 18 months while they sort out new regulations.
also to add i enjoy your editing style with short clips of 80/90 film and cartoon etc…. keep it up i’m sure you will find your mojo, don’t force it and i’m sure you will find enjoyment for the coming summer season. hope you get over your cold and feel better soon 💪👍
Hey Sam, I started following your channel because of the videos about electric motorcycles. I now have a Ribelle myself and have already driven over 13,000 kilometers with it. I used to regularly take part in racetrack training with my R1. But I don't dare do that with the Ribelle either. I've also become calmer now, being over 50. 😉 I would like to see videos of your tours in New Zealand again and of course I need to know how the conversion of your car is going! But I don't think it's a bad thing if there's no electric motor in a video.😉 I just find it exciting to find out every now and then what you guys are doing over there on the other side of the planet. So just do whatever you feel like. Many greetings from Germany. Andrew
Cheers Andrew! Thanks for the support. I'll have more car conversion updates very soon. I've been working on it a lot but not editing the videos haha. Congrats on hitting 13k on your Ribelle! That's huge!
Keep rocking that country music! The electric bike market stalled now, so there is not much to talk about, maybe with the summer you can show some, but I like the Energicar.
Hi Sam, I just got a chance to watch this one. My heart jumped. Oh man, I'm so glad you came out of that okay. Don't sweat the direction of your videos. You've got such a natural way about you and you've already proven you don't need to adhere to any kind of release schedule, so just do them when it's fun. Besides, I'm sure the Beat/Energica conversion will keep you busy for a while yet. And when it's finally finished, time for a top-down road trip!
Thanks man! I really appreciate it. I never knew how long this youtube thing would last or where it would go, so I'm grateful for the community. More videos coming soon!
I really enjoy your content on electric motorcycling, travel, and your car project. I really hope that you continue to post content especially on traveling New Zealand on your Energicas and your car conversion project. I'd also like to hear more of your track day experiences even if you're not riding the Energica. Your content along with Lex Summer's, and Hans Capella's were a big factor in my decision to by an Energica Eva Ribelle. Your delivery style is entertaining regardless of the the subject matter of your videos. Please keep it up.
I follow you because of you man! I think your expertise and experience with all the latest and greatest EVs provides a unique perspective, regardless if the topic is ICE or EV. Wishing you the best!
One idea: go up the mountain using as much energy as you can, then go down being on strongest Regen as efficient as you can. And see the result of output vs input. That would be an awesome math video
I'm really keen to keep watching the Beat conversion videos. I also enjoy the track days, ICE or EV. I haven't ever had a track, so the insughts there are helpful before I eventually get to the track. All the roadtrips and seeing NZ are awesome too.
I always thought of your content as generally electric vehicle focused, but that bikes were just the more efficient EV for you. Of course, the pursuit of the "perfect" bike for you life was a chapter in that story, achieved by moving from the Zero to the Energica. The EnergiCar was on the way to being a new small four wheel EV that I'd imagine was fast, trackable, electric, but most importantly it's something you wanted to do and did so in your own entertaining way, so I was happy to continue watching that new chapter. It's unfortunate when little set backs like your license issue cause a kinda of cascade effect that takes the wind out of you sails a bit, I know I've had pursuits that kinda got pushed aside because of things that weren't under my power, but I try to keep doing the things I enjoy as much as possible for my own sake. You should do the same, and if you choose to share them with us I'm sure we'll be here when you're ready.
Man thanks so much for this comment. I'm definitely not waiting for the tracks to sort themselves out. If that means riding a gas bike, that's what I have to do. And don't worry, lots of EnergiCar videos are coming soon! I'll keep posting stuff as long as people want to keep watching it :)
Hi ive been watching your channel for a long time. Shure the zero got my attention but it was the journey that kept me The highs and lows, the challenges along the way Most of all you keep it real world, Keep on keeping on James
Just do what you do, Sam. I wouldn't stress about putting out content, but just do it as and when you've got something to share. We'll wait. 😊 I don't blame you for not wanting to take your Energica onto the track. That would be gutting if you had an off on it. Did the race tracks give a justification for banning electric motorcycles? Seems totally inexplicable.
Thanks, John! I'll take it easy and enjoy it :) I reached out to our local track to get something confirmed in writing, and they said they're sorting out safety regulations for EVs because of the potential risk of battery fires. They aren't prepared to put them out yet. That just means that all EVs are banned for "a minimum of 18 months" while they get the new regulations made. I can't wait that long.
I started watching your channel because of electric bikes after I'd taken a Xero SR/F for a test ride a few years ago. And because I love NZ, even though I've not been back since I was 21 in 1985... Ok, I haven't yet swapped my BMW S1000XR for an electric bike, but I will. As others have said, I carried on watching the channel because of your and Jen's personalities and what you have to say. Carry on saying whatever you want about whatever interests, entertains or concerns you and people will watch and listen. Much respect from the UK.
Cheers man! Thanks for the awesome comment. That BMW S1000XR is an amazing bike. I think electrics still provide really unique experiences and everybody should try them, which is why it's so sad that tracks are banning them. Hopefully things improve soon. Thanks for watching!
To be honest, I didn't follow your channel for the EV-Bikes. I am into right to repair and found your videos about the problems with zero. So yes, I came here for the electric bike content, but these where just the thing you talked about. I enjoyed your storytelling and your honest review of them. That's the reason, why I stayed around. So make content, as you like it. Maybe even about the trackdays - it sounds great to hear some insights into "why is a gasbike cheaper/better to run on a track?", "why do many tracks bann evs?", "whats the first thing you had to unlearn riding a smaller gasbike on track?". I think there is great content in it and from my perspective, we are all just bikers. I would not trade my oldtimer or my twostroke for an EV, but would I like to own one in addition? Yeah maybe.
Thanks man! That means a lot. I feel like Louis Rossmann sent a lot of people my way because of those Zero videos haha. I should send him some chocolate or something. Thanks for sticking around. I'll make a follow-up video about the electric ban at race tracks here.. maybe part of a long road trip I have planned next week. Cheers!
I’m following you since when a was in Brazil. I’m living here in New Zealand now and your videos helps me a lot in this process!! Whatever you post, I will watch my friend! One day I will do a bike trip until Wellington just to now you 😅 Stay strong sir 🫡
I'm a longtime subscriber to your channel. I just testrode an EVA Ribelle RS because of your videos. If you can, please continue to film Energica videos, even if it is just of the Ribelle riding through the beautiful Kiwi countryside.
Enjoy your stories, love the scenery. Tracks have issues with how to put out "battery fires", so they can't get insurance. Our local Kart track is the same. No electric karts. Sad to hear you're not riding your Energica more.
Aw man! Such a bummer. They're not as hard to put out anymore now that we know how. What sucks is that electrics are banned for a minimum of 18 months, and I can't wait that long. I'm addicted now XD
I subbed back when I was buying my Ribelle and I liked that you had videos about taking your bikes out and doing stuff with them rather than just reviews or news or whatever. The track stuff doesn't interest me but the car is pretty neat and you're pleasant to listen to. Keep doing what you enjoy doing, people change and grow and if your desire to do stuff out there with your electric bike comes back then it'll come back.
Echo chamber but this isn't an existential crisis, just the the evolution of your path. You're New Zeroland, so when you change it does. It's called progression and it may not be for everyone, but it's for you. Main thing is you're having a good time and share it here if u want to. Also, fuck dem tracks!
Haha thanks bro! I like that. Evolution is a good word to use. I guess we're all constantly changing. Different bikes, different ways of using them, different interests. I'll keep making videos of whatever happens.
Hey Sam, I like ALL your videos, and I've been enjoying them since you started making them. I even bought an Evoke! I won't be sad if the channel is not about electric bikes anymore. Just shoot a video while riding your Energica from time to time please, sharing your thoughts and your life :)
Keep the Channel, People will still enjoy watching you. You are a good content maker. Maybe take on some road distance challenges with the Energica. Or trade it for a different electric motorcycle like an Experia or DSRX and make some cool touring content. Im sure there are lots of great natural places there people would like to see video from an electric adventure bike on. You can still go fast at the track and then push the distance limits of electric bikes on a touring model. Im sure someone would be happy to buy your Ribelle.
Thanks man! We'll see.. I'm not sure what to do yet, but more touring is definitely in the works. I'm going on a 1200km ride next weekend so there will be video for sure.
It's your channel. No question people come here for your electric stuff, but personally I'm here for you and Jen, and both your insights. It doesn't matter what you guys do, I'm tuning in regardless. My channel was more vlogs and video games. But these days it's mainly motorcycles 😅. You make great content, people will follow no matter what. Much Love from this side of the planet ❤
Just chiming in to support some of the less common responses below; I started watching you for your South Island tour and have stayed since. Electric bikes are super interesting as a 'where will things go', but as someone still in the early days of licencing and LAMS bikes, electric bikes might as well be supercars - I'm here to see what you get up to & where I might also want to ride. Play the country music if that's what you're into at the moment :)
Cheers man! Honestly LAMS approved stuff is pretty rad now. I'd get an R7 and just stick with that forever, but it depends what style of riding you like. Hopefully the used electric market grows in NZ the way it did in the US and we can have more affordable options. You're right that they're still like supercars, but very limited compared to petrol bikes. Maybe that'll change soon. I hope it does! Thanks for watching and happy riding :D
Mate, I sympathise. It's hard to find out that the thing you love doing is being put out of your reach. But this channel is about a lot more than bike racing videos :-) There are too many other channels about bike racing already. Do what you love! If you want to put that here on video, and if it includes electric motorbikes, then so much the better. If you want to do track days on petrol bikes, go for it - that's still doing what you love. That video you did with a day trip on the two small bikes was just wonderful. I really loved that. I love your touring adventures. I love your Beat conversion. I love your occasional rambles about biking. You do a great video, mate, keep it up!
Do whatever you feel at each moment, dont worry about it. It's your channel, just show us what you do. You said that now you are less "the electric man" and more "a gas bike track man", for me its ok if it makes you happy. Just share with us what makes you happy, no matter if its electric or not. Thanks.
Just keep going Sam. You do great videos got me interested, connected me with a certain octopus and boom Lite Bee traded up for a Zero FX now added a Zero DS. All your videos inspire and interest me. Even popped my head in the door of FTN due to your review. It's all good. Looking forward to the next conversion video. Maybe tour the country meeting owners and riding various electric motorbikes.
Thanks man! I'm glad you're still having fun up there. Do you still have the FX? I'd love to meet more electric motorcycle owners. It seems like most of them are up near you, so I might have to plan a trip!
You've jumped into the electric deep end in a country that's really not ready for it in so many ways. It's been great to see your trials and tribulations in owning electric vehicles on our roads. Someone needs to document the transition from a consumer point of view and you Jen do a great job of it. Keep flying the zero emissions flag in (not so) Zeroland. 🤘😆🤘
Cheers! Thanks for the support :D More videos coming soon then. I'm planning on riding the new bike up to Auckland next weekend to drag race gas bikes, so stay tuned!
I enjoy the touring and you commentary and interactions with silent Jen. The future is electric. The track guy may feel threatened by electrics capabilities but will eventually come around. Keep on being you, your audience appreciates it. Thanks for the information and entertainment.
Hi, sorry to hear you're in a bit of a quandary with your YT channel. I'm loving the Honda Beat conversion; I'm also converting an old car to EV using motorcycle parts (in my case, Zero SRF into a Reliant Fox). I'm hoping to do some videos on the conversion, when I start ripping it apart next year. Maybe some more NZ touring videos would be fun although, I guess you've pretty much covered the country now. Maybe go touring in the Beat when it's done?
Whoa awesome! I'll be honest, I'm jealous of your Zero powerplant. I'm struggling with the weight of the Energica battery, but it'll be a fun challenge. Thanks for the support, and I'll get back to Beat videos soon!
Suggest you create the change together with any budding 4 wheel track EVs. I drive a Tesla Model 3 in Oz and it is considerable effort to trail blaze the acceptance of EVs at tracks but someone has to do it. You can YT the journey. Happy to help with learnings in Oz if you decide to try.
If you mean making friends with electric car people at tracks, I have a few of them and they're also angry about the track ban. It's not just electric motorcycles. We'll try and fight it though!
Interesting to see what you have been dealing with. Road trip videos with your Energica would be interesting, maybe sort of like Bjørn Nyland's early Model S videos. It would be cool to show the places you charge and visit. Maybe the New Zealand tourist board would sponsor you! 😀 Another idea would be to go to drag strips and race your Energica, if they have them in NZ. With bracket racing electrics are less likely to be banned, since quicker bikes will lose if they break out of their bracket time. Whatever you end up doing, I still will enjoy how you present your videos.
No worries - this viewer will keep watching and leaving likes - anything e-driven or DIY (or just sharing a good life) from folks with a positive attitude is always welcome! There's enough negativity in the rest of the Internet - that's what make you stick out 🥰
I will join the chorus asking you to keep up the good work. And Jen, too! Perhaps you answered this below, but I could not find it: why would the track ban electric motorcycles?!
Great videos bro, I totally the love the North NZ trip you guys have done and only found your channel after looking for video info on the Energica Eva Ribelle. I live in Far North Queensland and have some high mountain twisties and it was good to see your range test to Martinborough, definitely gives people a real world idea on how it will go for them. If anything keep showing the bike and help change people perspective on electric vehicles, you definitely inspire people to change bro (i like the car vid too). Just wondering how tall are you and how much do you weigh? Asking as the closest dealer to me is like 2000+ kms away so would have to fly down to sit on one.
Thanks man! I'll keep making videos for sure. Actually I'm riding 600+km tomorrow so I'll definitely shoot a video about that. I'm 187cm (6'2) and weigh 75kg. I really like the Ribelle but the Ego also fit really well. They're big bikes, and still pretty heavy, but insanely fun.
Enjoy the videos and Interested in the beat conversion .. also how about a cheap electric track day bike conversion? I mean the tracks blocking e-bikes when they should be encouraging them .. not e-buckets but perhaps e-converted Hyosung’s or R3’s ?
I understand not wanting to lose the bike but thats why your practicing, also I think the accident might not of happened if you were on the electic. We come here to watch you at the end of the day and you can always get a bike just for the track. I also would like to see you try out other electrics and give your thoughts like the Ultraviolette F77 or the crazy Monoracer. I enjoyed videos of other EVs too so maybe cover some Jet Ski, Boats, Planes etc. You could also review and talk about gear that you use or want, expand on content relevant to the channel. Also its not like you didnt make videos with your Autozam and we still watched them, I think a lot of people would enjoy hearing your thoughts on different stuff especially if you can couple that with actual footage of the tech.
Sweet!! I've been making lots of progress on the car but haven't taken the time to edit any of the video. I'll post something soon, I promise. Thanks again for watching!
Sam and Jenn, from our end, it looks like you have a good thing going. It seems you think so too. Maybe you fell off the horse, but you can get back on. Figure out what you love about doing these videos and find a way to keep doing it. Do you need to make more money with the videos to pay for repairs to expensive bikes? Let's spread the word and get you some followers. Do you need more startup electric motorcycle companies to send you demo units? We can help. Do you want to spend more time doing trips with Jenn? Take it on the road, to other countries? Maybe the track isn't feasible. How about off road on adventure e-motos? I'm enjoying the e-conversion of the beat too. Fun to see what a e-moto drivetrain can do in a cager. Positive creativity will help you find your path. And we will be happy to peer through the window into your adventures when you choose to open it.
Thanks man! Honestly I'm not sure I want to do any of those 😂 The car will keep me busy though, and that's been really fulfilling so far. This isn't the end of my electric motorcycle videos but I might take a break from it until things change.
I'm riding more and more, even with orange forecast warnings like today.....the money I save is huge. My issue is what do I do with my beloved car (besides connecting the 12V battery once in a while). I'll still follow your channel, no matter what you ride and/or drive :D
I'm kinda in the same spot. I haven't uploaded a video in over a year and one of many reasons why is I don't feel like I have anything important or new to say. I stopped doing my monthly solar updates because they weren't getting many views and it started to get too repetitive. I've had our 2013 Prius for 8 years, our 2013 Volt for 7 years and my 2018 Zero SR for 5 years now which is crazy but I don't really have anything exciting or new to say about these vehicles. Thought about doing a Doug DeMuro style review of our Prius like I did on my Volt but just never got around to it. My kids have also kept me busy/stressed but they are only a small part of the reasons I stopped making videos. Some Model 3 videos might be cool but that's been done to death on UA-cam so I can understand not wanting to do that. Overall, I'd say life happens and if you just kind of run out of things to say on a topic, then that's fine. Interests change. You'll find new ones to talk about.
Dude!! Glad to hear from ya. It has been way too long, and I totally understand. Life changes and so do our interests / hobbies. You're right that there isn't much to say anymore. I feel like electric motorcycles were still new and different when we got into them, and now everybody and their grandmas have them. This isn't the end of my channel.. not by a long shot.. but I'm not sure how much more electric motorcycle content I'll make unless something exciting happens.
HI Sam. As you know you were a large part of why I purchased my 2017 Zero DSR with Charge Tank. However, after experiencing the realities of Level 2 charging here in the SF Bay Area, I was discouraged. I waited for the DSR/X and Energica Experia, but when they were released, neither of them had the features I wanted. So I purchased a 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4S Sport. It was the same price as the bikes above but has many more features I use and appreciate. I unsubscribed from all EV channels because right now they no longer interest me. You and Jenn do as people and I hope you find things to create for whatever you choose to display.
As a gas bike guy. Looking at electric is just a joy. Dont worry too much about upsetting people. People will be upset anyway and a lot more people will enjoy it
I don't want to make too much light of your existential crisis but like dude you've already taken a channel literally named after Zero and pivoted to Energicas! You're good! You keep filming fun stuff and I'll keep on watching 🥂
Going fast is fun, but it's not the only thing you can do on a bike. New Zealand is beautiful and electric bikes are cool. I own a Zero SR as well as a Triumph Street Triple R, so I appreciate both electric and gas. I love them both and I've learned to respect the power, but even mellow or somewhat spirited cruises through beautiful places can be great without trying to set new speed records. Just enjoy your bikes and the great places you have to ride. For electric bikes, range and charging are actually probably more important than performance, so you can provide a lot of value by discussing how that evolves.
Thanks man, I'll try. Tracks banned them, road trips are too difficult because of the infrastructure, and I don't commute. I'm not sure what to do with these bikes now haha, but I'll keep making videos about it as long as you guys want to watch them.
Things have slowed for me too. Since getting my CE-04, there's nothing of note to report. The bike just works, no drama. And Japan (where I live) is still way behind on EVs so there's nothing new to report either. No new Japanese made EVs here.
I bought a Hero X10 electric scooter. I am keen to get a new Hero scooter coming called Punk. I have done a lot of trackdays in a Honda EP3 car but am thinking of quiting because I love riding escooters at 32km/hr on cycleways. I have been knocked off my scooter by a car on Ponsonby Rd Auckland doing 40km/hr. I think you should reveiw escooters.
Touring around = amazing too. Some people like Action Kid walk around. TomDNYC gives tours of NYC history and walks around. . The light, the geology, the swirling wind = photogenic . "Boring" riding around Wellington = amazing . Another option = SurRons and explore the path networks that are obvious from Google Maps but not obvious in Wellington.
Your thought process mirrors what the rest of us are going through as we search for the elusive solution to whatever our thrill-seeking souls desire, and so much the better if it actually benefits the world in some way by being more environmentally-friendly or innovative in some way. UA-cam content is bloody hard, especially if you're daring to post on a regular schedule. I thought your idea of road-testing other options and innovations was a brilliant one and a great way to grow the community you've already earned, e.g. electric scooters, planes, motorcycles, cars, etc. NZ and the rest of the world are full of people just like you who want to experiment with what's possible and contribute to make the world a better place. Why not meet them and share their story along with your own? Isn't that why we all started watching you in the first place?
I think, we all can absolutely follow your arguments about the track and these inner conflicts. Sure, you cannot get the same feeling on the public road and you‘re not able to go up to your potential, passion, limits and capabilities there - sure, it‘s the public zone .. A big bummer that e-ban! Maybe you can fight against that? What‘s the reason behind? After you‘ve won this fight, you may get a cheaper electric bike only for the track. Hey, we followers will find a way together, that you’re happy again.
Cheers! We'll try and fight, because this affects all EVs. The car people will be pissed. The ban is for a minimum of 18 months while they sort out new safety regulations for potential battery fires. It just sucks that we have to wait that long.
Came for the electric, staying for the man. Film what you want, you’re fun to watch and listen to.
Aw thanks :D I appreciate it man! If you like car conversion stuff, there's a lot more of that coming haha.
What this guy said. 💯 %
I'll third that.
@@NewZeroland I enjoy it a bit, it’s interesting. I know you’re not the first, but I think there’ll be a lot more electric conversions happening soon, so the more documentation of this type of project the better!
Agreed. Plus I love goofy tiny cars being converted to electric, so zero complaints from here.
Came here for the Zero, stayed for the trips, adventures and seeing the Beat conversion.
Cheers man! More of most of those coming soon.
Your channel has been a huge inspiration for my own electric vehicle projects. But more importantly, I treasure the atmosphere of your videos.
They are fun, relaxing, and positive. And the specific content matters much less than your vibe brother.
Make whatever videos you want! We will be here to watch!
Cheers man! Thanks for that. It means a lot. I will always do something electric related :D
Thanks! That means a lot. I still have some more motorcycle content coming but I think focus will shift mostly to getting the car converted.
@@NewZeroland I'm really looking forward to the car conversion project 😁
I 2nd this!
Would love to see more videos of you just riding along, long leisure rides with those nice charging stops. Many be testing and reviewing more electric vehicles. ❤
Cheers! I have a really long ride planned actually. Stay tuned :)
Aw thanks :D That really made my day. I'm not gonna stop making videos so get ready for more. I just don't know what yet haha.
No worries. Thanks for the info about the speeding ticket/drivers license issue. Sounds like they’re no joke with speeding. Will keep that in mind while I’m there in December. No bike, just campervan for this trip but come on, who doesn’t love a little kitten speed every now n then😸
@@daRogueJedi ohhhh have fun! That's the best way to see the country.
Wow nice!! That sounds like an awesome project. Thanks for the support. I'll keep making videos if you wanna keep watching them!
Thanks for the support! I'll keep at it. I'm way behind on car videos so I'll try to catch up soon. Glad you're enjoying it!
Cheers, Monkey! Thanks for watching. I'll keep posting stuff then :D
People come for your Energica content, people come for your ICE bike content, people come for your EV car conversion content. But they come back for your amazing personality, stupid inside jokes, badass wife and genuine passion for life. ❤
Thank you again for trusting me with your EVA and your Beat!
Haha true! Great point. I love how crazy RichRebuilds became. Thanks for the support :D
Your videos keep me coming back. You and Jen are naturals and you share interesting and/or funny content plus, of course, you live in such a beautiful country. I love hte Energica videos but, strangely, I am enjoying the Energicar videos too 😁
Woo!! Thanks man. More of both are coming soon then :) I just had to get this off my chest because I've felt like I've been living 2 lives.
In the future… go riding.
Roads? We won’t need roads where we’re going!
You know my feelings Sam. While I live your electric content, I don't watch your channel for that. I watch it because I enjoy your videos, your insights, your humor. If you decide to get out of youtube and move to other things that is ok too. I'll still big you on instagram. Just try and stop me. Muhahahaha
HAHA thanks bro. I'm not sure what videos I'll make, but I won't stop making them!
Cheers man! Thanks so much for your support :)
Play country if that's what's working for you! You might lose a few fans, but if you put your heart into it, everything will work out! The worst thing you can do is give up because you're worried what others will think/do. Just do you, brother, and keep the rubber side down ❤
Cheers man! That's so true. Thanks for the wise words.
I found your channel watching the trip videos and really liked them so I watched all of your other videos. Film and post what you want to, you don't owe the people watching your content anything. We owe you for all the entertainment. Keep up the great work.
Aw thanks man! That means a lot.
Keep it up!
Aw thanks Bert! That means a lot 😁 Don't worry.. I'll keep making videos no matter what. Until I fake my death and flee the country.
Thanks Hans. I feel ya man.. life changes and our interests/needs change. Hope you're doing well!
The comments say it ALL. You started sharing life with an electric bike, and lo and behold discovered you're a ... GOOD STORY TELLER. Dude just go with the flow, you'll always have an audience.
You guys are the best 😁
Being a Brit, it's nice seeing you drive on the correct side of the road too. ;-)
Please keep ya videos coming, Take ya time and create content YOU like to make.
So what if it's every few months. Ride safe, Enjoy your self.
Cheers, SnowMen! Will do. I have a long ride planned next week actually, so the videos won't stop any time soon.
@@NewZeroland WoHooo Can't wait.
Hey Sam, range test videos are always fun to watch the challenges of charging efficiently whilst making good progress. Would love to see more of these
Another road trip video coming soon!
Any electric content is good. Bonus for Aotearoa stuff.
Cheers! More videos to come then :D
Oh man!! You guys are getting killed with vehicle prices. I'm so sorry. Thanks for watching though!
Haha thanks for that 😂 I'll keep makin videos if you wanna keep watchin em! If I lose my mind, I'll make sure the camera is on.
I still want to see that car conversion finished, and Jenn can slap you round a bit to stay on the bike, wherever you ride! 😀
Hey awesome! I'm glad that helped. Thanks for the support 😁 I'll keep making videos then!
hi Sam, the reason I started following you was because of the ev bikes, I stuck around to follow you and what ever you get up to on the other side of the world, it’s coming into your summer so any NZ adventures are welcome as is smiley Jen.
Hey Sam,
I started following your channel because of the videos about electric motorcycles.
I now have a Ribelle myself and have already driven over 13,000 kilometers with it. I used to regularly take part in racetrack training with my R1. But I don't dare do that with the Ribelle either.
I've also become calmer now, being over 50. 😉
I would like to see videos of your tours in New Zealand again and of course I need to know how the conversion of your car is going!
But I don't think it's a bad thing if there's no electric motor in a video.😉
I just find it exciting to find out every now and then what you guys are doing over there on the other side of the planet.
Haha thanks bro! I will. Get ready for lots and lots of Energicar content :D
I really enjoy all your videos including the car ones and I hope you get your motorcycling mojo back - from Lyall Bay, Wellington.
Cheers man! I hope so too :D
Thanks for the fun and adventures you both have documented and taken us on! You just do your thing, whatever that is, whenever it suits ya. Ride on.
Cheers man! Will do. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks Bruce! That means a lot. No matter what happens, I'll keep making videos. Cheers for the support :)
You make great content, thats why I watch. I’ll watch gas bike racing, road trips and car conversions. I love it all.
Keep it coming!!!
Cheers man!! Thanks for the support all these years. I won't stop until I fake my death and flee the country :D
I follow you because of you man! I think your expertise and experience with all the latest and greatest EVs provides a unique perspective, regardless if the topic is ICE or EV. Wishing you the best!
Aw man, thanks so much! I appreciate it. I won't go anywhere then. More videos to come :)
One idea: go up the mountain using as much energy as you can, then go down being on strongest Regen as efficient as you can. And see the result of output vs input. That would be an awesome math video
I do love mountains!
I'm really keen to keep watching the Beat conversion videos.
I also enjoy the track days, ICE or EV. I haven't ever had a track, so the insughts there are helpful before I eventually get to the track.
All the roadtrips and seeing NZ are awesome too.
Thanks man! I'll keep shootin stuff then. My next video will 100% be Beat content. So much has happened since the last one!
@@NewZeroland Yeah man, I ain't going anywhere, roll that beautiful beat footage!
Hi ive been watching your channel for a long time.
Shure the zero got my attention but it was the journey that kept me
The highs and lows, the challenges along the way
Most of all you keep it real world,
Keep on keeping on
James
Thanks James! I appreciate it man 😁
You have a great channel Sam - Keep riding and let us see the projects you are working on, it’s all interesting.
Will do! Thanks man 😁
Just do what you do, Sam. I wouldn't stress about putting out content, but just do it as and when you've got something to share. We'll wait. 😊
I don't blame you for not wanting to take your Energica onto the track.
Cheers man! Thanks for the support 😁 If you're ever in Wellington, let me know.
Hey man , stop stressing ! Put the content you want up we will all still watch as your stile and content is perfect!
Cheers Ray! I appreciate it :D
As a track day rider I know what it’s like to crash 🏦 .I enjoy your channel especially testing new electric motorbikes please keep doing these.
Cheers man! I'll keep it up as long as I can.
I enjoy all your videos, would watch no matter which bike you’re on.
Thanks man!
I'm a longtime subscriber to your channel. I just testrode an EVA Ribelle RS because of your videos. If you can, please continue to film Energica videos, even if it is just of the Ribelle riding through the beautiful Kiwi countryside.
Whoa awesome! Thanks :D Will do.
Cheers! Thanks for the support. I'm glad you like the car stuff, too. Hope you're still having fun with your Ribelle!
@@NewZeroland got my 30k kms service coming up, been doing a lot of long rides and tours on it. Love it, it's such a good bike.
Cheers! Will do. Maybe I should do more vlogs like this. How are you liking the Evoke??
Aw thanks :D That means a lot, seriously. All these comments are blowing my mind. I love this community.
Thanks Paul! You guys are all making my day 😁 I'll try and keep up the video making as long as I can. As long as you want them, I'll post them!
Do whatever you feel at each moment, dont worry about it.
It's your channel, just show us what you do. You said that now you are less "the electric man" and more "a gas bike track man", for me its ok if it makes you happy.
Just share with us what makes you happy, no matter if its electric or not.
Thanks.
Thanks! I guess as long as I'm still riding motorcycles, that's all that matters :) I appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching!
Another idea: find custom builders. DIY is super fun to experience and I'm sure they are near you
True! Great point man. NZ is known for people making stuff in their sheds. Surely there are lots of cool home-built electrics.
Thanks man! I hope so. Your comment means a lot. Cheers!
Another idea would be to go to drag strips and race your Energica, if they have them in NZ. With bracket racing electrics are less likely to be banned, since quicker bikes will lose if they break out of their bracket time.
Whatever you end up doing, I still will enjoy how you present your videos.
Actually.. I'm planning a road trip to a drag strip next weekend LOL! So your wishes will be granted.
It doesn’t have to be fast! We are currently riding Route 66. Slow N Steady
Haha man your trip looks fun! I wish the charging infrastructure here was better for stuff like that.
@@NewZeroland we have had only two improv stops. We wish some of the infrastructure here was better too. Lol it can always be better
No worries - this viewer will keep watching and leaving likes - anything e-driven or DIY (or just sharing a good life) from folks with a positive attitude is always welcome! There's enough negativity in the rest of the Internet - that's what make you stick out 🥰
Aw thanks! I really appreciate it :D You're all inspiring me to keep making this stuff, so thank you!
I will join the chorus asking you to keep up the good work. And Jen, too! Perhaps you answered this below, but I could not find it: why would the track ban electric motorcycles?!
Thanks! I'll do a follow up video to talk about this in more depth, but it comes down to battery fire safety and how unprepared NZ is to handle it.
I'm not going anywhere. Keep 'em coming.
Thank you! 😁
We'll see what happens.. I'm not going down without a fight.
Thanks man! I'm not stopping any time soon. I appreciate the support :)
I'll be honest, I'm here for the beat content and essentially anything you do. Not just the electric bike stuff
Sweet!! I've been making lots of progress on the car but haven't taken the time to edit any of the video. I'll post something soon, I promise. Thanks again for watching!
@@NewZeroland looking forward to it! Thanks for content
Thanks for the update Sam. Good video content as always. And as Digital Underground would say..
Ride what you like. Upload how you like.
Cheers man! Will do. I have some fun stuff planned so it ain't over yet!
Thanks! I wish I had a longer commute to make it worth it. I guess I'll have to plan another road trip to have an excuse to make more videos.
Thanks Mark! That means a lot. I'm not sure what kind of videos I'll make but I'm glad you're still a fan :)
20 mile range with 73% battery left? hot damn, he dumped a lot of electrons on that run.
Right?? He's fast. Crazy fast.
As a gas bike guy. Looking at electric is just a joy. Dont worry too much about upsetting people. People will be upset anyway and a lot more people will enjoy it
Thanks man! I'll keep riding either way 😁 Glad you like watching something different!
I don't want to make too much light of your existential crisis but like dude you've already taken a channel literally named after Zero and pivoted to Energicas! You're good! You keep filming fun stuff and I'll keep on watching 🥂
HAHA true.. fair point XD And thanks!
love seeing your trips around New Zealand on your EV bike
Cheers man! More to come.
This channel is YOU .. not the engine that powers your motorcycle.
Cheers! Then I'll keep making videos :D
Things have slowed for me too. Since getting my CE-04, there's nothing of note to report. The bike just works, no drama. And Japan (where I live) is still way behind on EVs so there's nothing new to report either. No new Japanese made EVs here.
True man, true. Life is too good I guess haha. Glad you're still enjoying it!
Even if you dont post much Energica stuff, still love watching your vids and want to see more of the Honda Beat!
Oh man! I've ridden the Apollo City PRO. That thing was a beast. You really need full gear with those things haha.
Touring around = amazing too.
Some people like Action Kid walk around.
TomDNYC gives tours of NYC history and walks around.
.
The light, the geology, the swirling wind = photogenic
.
"Boring" riding around Wellington = amazing
.
Another option = SurRons and explore the path networks that are obvious from Google Maps but not obvious in Wellington.
Truuuue. Very true. Going off-road might be next 😁 There's still a lot to explore here so I guess I need to keep riding.
True! So true. Well said man. Thanks for the support :) I'm not gonna stop making videos any time soon.
I like the motorcycle trip videos. Bad boys riding the horse in the sunset… keep going
Haha sounds good! Thanks :)
Trackdays are the only way to speed. They also show if you can actually ride.
Yeah man, and I'm addicted now XD
