    You're videos have inspired my husband and I to review our finances. And we actually found that we will be saving money, if I stay home with the kids. We think it's God's confirmation to us for something we've already been praying about. (4/5 tips we already live by)

    It’s a fun way to save money, and while not every homemaker may like or enjoy this, I’ve started to crochet as a hobby and it’s amazing how many homemade things you can create that are cheap. I’ve started to crochet my own dish towels, pot holders and dish rags. Cotton yarn is cheap and I can make my own dish rag in a hour or so when the tv is on and I want to be productive. The neat thing is that the home looks warmer and homey with these homemade touches.

    I come from a long line of homemakers, as does my husband, and I have been home approximately twelve years with two kids (married fifteen). The best time to prepare for being a full-time traditional wife is long before marriage. Prepare your heart and finances for the road ahead by developing your character, establishing good routines, and minimizing overall lifestyle costs. Ideally, being debt- free entering marriage, or soon thereafter, gives immediate benefits as far as flexibility goes. Live fully on one income for a season, while stashing away the second salary 1/3 for enjoyment with spouse, 1/3 for retirement, and 1/3 for a modest house if that is a goal (it need not be). Ideally, each spouse should have a decent term life insurance policy prior to the first pregnancy, and some sort of health insurance. It takes hard work, dedication, and planning on the part of the husband and wife in unison to achieve this lifestyle but it pays dividends as family life unfolds over the long haul. Some people view parenthood as an 18 year chore, while others view it as a *fleeting gift* and the chance of a lifetime to raise children with a solid upbringing and all the many joys and sorrows that come with such a fully lived life. Our culture would do well to look to times past, and begin to value the hard and rewarding work that is family life. Love your videos!

    Thank you so much for this video!! I’m not married yet and I don’t know if I will have the opportunity to become a homemaker. It really is something that can be feasible for most families but because it isn’t the norm, sometimes it can be hard to wrap our minds around as something to do without scraping by. 😊 On a little bit of a different note, I think after reading scripture and hearing how many verses have been interpreted I think God’s intention for women is to be homeward bound. I think we are homemakers because we are women and that is a beautiful and difficult job but for some women that means being home full time and for others that means working outside of the home sometimes but the goal is to uplift her house and not her own praises and glory especially depending on the season of life. What do you think Gods word has to say about women being homemakers? Or do you already have a video on that?

    • @Centerpiecegardens
      @Centerpiecegardens  4 роки тому +9

      I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed today's video! I think in most cases God makes it clear that a women's role is to be in the home and her main ministry is to her kids and family. However, I think this is more of a heart posture and women should see the value that God sees in raising up a family and that being a great enough purpose. If a mom is a single mom, or a family can't financially make working from home or not working at all happen I don't think that's wrong if her heart isn't to get away from her kids or think that raising them isn't important enough. All this to say, I think women are called to ministry outside of the home too it is just going to look different at different stages of life. Right now I don't have kids so I have free time even after prioritizing helping my husband and taking care of my home to do my blog and UA-cam.However, I foresee as our family grows that I will not be able to put as much time and energy into this as my focus will shift on raising up our littles to be disciples of God. Then, once they grow older and have a standing in their faith I will probably again pursue outside ministry with more time and intention. I know many moms who stayed home for their children's youth but pursued careers or ministry before and after. I think that's awesome! Women are capable of doing so much outside of the home too, but being in the home during child-rearing years, in my opinion, is the most important and glorifying thing we can do for God's kingdom. That's what I've gathered from scripture. We are also called to be our husband's helper so that's important too in considering if what we are pursuing is helping them or taking away from what they are trying to achieve. I talk briefly about this in my "can you be a homemaker before kids?" but I will do a whole video about what God says about women's role in the near future!

    It's really interesting that people think that living on one income is so simple. I think it is doable for some people for sure. I have a friend whose husband is an attorney and she is able to be at home full time because he earns enough money to support the household. However, my husband earns less than I do and I don't really have a great salary. I think a lot of folks just assume that the only reason for a second income is greed. We saved for ten years to buy the first and only home we will ever have and it is quite small. We don't have new cars, and we buy very little clothing, technology, or other items. In fact, the price of gas, food, utilities, health insurance, car maintenance and repair has caused me to sork both a full-time job and a part time job and my husband works full time. The cost of living for the basics has risen exponentially. We have a good credit score and had saved quite a bit of money for a downpayment on a house, but there are too few houses for sale and we were outbid 6 times! I seariously don't know how folks are making it these days.

    My goal is to be home, and this advice is super practical for most people. Subscriptions and takeout are big money pits for us. Unfortunately, so is credit debt, but in a couple years the debt will be gone. Thank God for (legitimate) debt repayment resources. 🙌 In the meantime, scaling down spending, side hustles, and budgeting like a hawk will prepare us.

I just quit my job with my boyfriend’s full support to work on our home and also my Etsy shop and writing career goals. He’s working 2 days a week, and he’s a veteran so currently he’s being paid to go to school. If I’m home, I’m able to create a better environment for his studies and focus on my dreams as well. I’m definitely nervous, but we think right now it’ll be alright.

      I have always found the less I'm in places where there is temptation to spend, the better! When my kids were little, we stayed out of the malls. Period. We went for hikes. To the park. Friend's houses. The library. Even if we were not invited back, I tried to have people over for coffee or a meal. Not to a restaurant or coffee shop. I also intentionally never learned how to order on Amazon or Ebay. My husband orders for me when I need something since he's less spontaneous about spending. It keeps me accountable. I don't use Pinterest & I unsubscribe from UA-camrs or social media accounts that are constantly (once in a while is normal) priming me to spend.

      I want to be a homemaker more than anything - but I struggle with the societal pressure put on women to “not rely on a man” and to “build your own career/do it all”- and if I am a stay at home mom, there will be a gap in my resume and getting back in to a career would be tough. I know I could always go back to school to get a masters if I wanted to pursue something different down the road, but the enemy is instilling a lot of fear in me! I feel called by God to be a stay at home mom and my husband wants it for me too but worry about what it could mean for the future in case of tragedy. Have you ever struggled with these thoughts? How do you reconcile them - could use any encouragement I can get!

    As an older sister in the Lord, may I suggest you don't record your videos sitting on your bed. Your bed and bedroom are intimate spaces that you share with your husband and make love in. Keep it intimate, keep it holy.

    • @sophianorthfield
      @sophianorthfield 3 роки тому +2

      I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Yea a bedroom is an intimate space but it’s not the space itself that makes it intimate and special, it’s the people that are within it. It’s just a physical material space that we are blessed with and if God can use that space through these videos to bring glory to himself through videos, it’s a resource that should be used. There are plenty of people that also have to live in studio apartments and these spaces are multi use or other rooms of the house my not be accessible to film in all the time (persay someone using their living room for a home office and not wanting to disturb them so using your room instead to film these God glorifying videos). We should use all the material blessings from God to their fullest extent to glorify him. I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t think a heavy, “holy” weight needs to be put down on just material blessings.

      I live in a tiny home where our bedroom doubles as our living room. I think this mindset is legalistic and putting your own convictions onto other people. If you’re convicted of that, don’t do it. But it’s not a command by God not to allow other people non-sexual access to the room we sleep in. We have people hang out in our sleeping space often.
