My cartridge was grey, not blue. I had a black turok 2 cartridge, but it did not contain the popular split screen multiplayer glitch, because it was a german version so despite being black it still had its bugs patched.
Most underrated Bond game, and quite an underrated N64 game. If you had to choose to play this or Goldeneye, of course you'd play Goldeneye, but if you're a Bond fan there's no reason to avoid this game. Both Agent Under Fire and Nightfire (the next two big Bond games that were released) are far more popular than this game and yet both lack the complex mission objectives and less-linear level designs that TWINE offers... Its unpopularity is strictly a case of living in the direct shadow of its big bother.
aleckermit I actually think this game did single player FAR better than Goldeneye- it only doesn't quite match up as Goldeneye had the faster and more fun multiplayer.
Maybe not the best graphics in the console but in my opinion the actual game looks better than this footage. I play my N64 in an old Trinitron and looks great.
This game looks amazing for the N64. It looks like an early PS2 or early Gamecube game. The developers of this game don't get enough credit. It is a proud addition to my N64 library.

I loved this just as much as Goldeneye. The only reason I played this more than Goldeneye was because the multiplayer had AI so when I was by myself I was able to play it.

That said, I really think that if it had managed to come out in 98 or 99 it would have been MUCH more highly regarded as a 2nd installment to the 007 series on the system, but by 2000 I think people had played Goldeneye to death, not to mention the fact that Perfect Dark had already come along and wowed everyone by the time this came out. Goldeneye is hard to beat, like you mentioned, and Perfect Dark was another then-new 900 pound gorilla in the genre. Largely underrated game on N64. Is it a Goldeneye beater, well not in my opinion, but it sure does give it a run for its money! I love all varied locations and cool mission objectives. To be honest. AI in Goldeneye was horrible. They were either scripted to behave specifically, or they were programmed to charge at you. The only thing that made AI enemies interesting in Goldeneye was their animation. To compare it's AI to this game and actually say it's better easily causes me to scratch my head. I think AI enemies behaved better, but only in a visual animation way, not exactly how they performed as actual enemies. Even Perfect Dark wasn't an improvement in a "Smart" sense, just better general animation of enemies, including death animations. Though what i loved about Perfect Dark was that enemies could surrender some times, which was freaken awesome but rare. I had one instance I ran into a room on Perfect Dark, killed everyone but one guy and the last guy literally throw his gun down and surrendered, I'm not even sure if I've ever had that happen since. And Yes, I was the nice guy, I always knocked them out instead of killing them, RARE was at least nice enough to let players not kill people. That being said. I still consider this game the best James Bond Game on the Nintendo 64. And I refuse to let my nostalgic love of Goldeneye dictate otherwise. But if I had to choose for pure fun factor. Perfect Dark was my favorite N64 shooter. In most respects Goldeneye feels bland when compared to either, outside of it's excellent sound track. lol Now that being said. Not to dis either game's AI in most respects. I rarely see a game with "GOOD" AI. As I honestly believe true AI doesn't exist in a video game. I mean even something as awesome as Medal of Honor Front Line has AI as horrible as this game in almost all respects. lol I owned both of these games. Goldeneye was first, but I never considered it the best. There were better shooters on the N64. Heck, I even considered some of the Duke Nukem Games more fun than Goldeneye on the N64. I really think people often let nostalgia dictate too much on their own opinions. For the same reason why I struggled to understand why my cousins would prefer to play Goldeneye vs say Perfect Dark, despite Perfect Dark was clearly a vastly superior version of Goldeneye. lol
The Goldeneye-enemies went on a route. They´re never on the same place when you came in the level. Thats the only difference between goldeneye-AI and other Shooter-AI on N64. Thats why Goldeneye is better than the others. I think on N64 were more FPS than on Playstation, and all make a lot of Fun.
In my opinion this game blows Goldeneye out of the water. It’s so ridiculously cinematic and for an N64 game the graphics and set pieces are mind blowing. Plus, the multiplayer for this was soooo much fun. Such an overlooked game that will forever remain in the shadow of its predecessor.
I consider it the most underrated James bond video game. I'm glad I got this game as a kid for Christmas. I'm pretty sure my parents meant to get goldeneye but they didn't know the difference and just saw the James bond brand and bought it 😂
this game was amazing back in the days, had it as a child, even has multiplayer with bots and you can change fire modes etc on the guns, its a must-own for people who like n64 fps games
A masterpiece, and one of the most underrated games of all time. I actually enjoyed the mp better in this game than 007, and liked that you could add bots if desired. Incredible soundtrack, visuals, and tight shooting mechanics. 2nd best shooter on the n64 after Goldeneye. Warning: Avoid the PS1 version. Its absolute garbage.
One area Goldeneye had this beat was cheats though. So much fun messing around with them. However, this game did look and play better than Goldeneye, plus GE had the nostalgia factor.
I played the living daylights out of it when my Mom and Dad gave it to me that Christmas it came out and that game stayed in my N64 for a very long time.
Content really felt like a next gen title. Everything that happened during levels and craracters. Sometimes mission(s) gets failed too easily, thought...
It amazes me how flawless this game is. Recently I discovered this game from a video about FPS games on n64. It got my attention when the video said the game was similar to Golden Eye. I was interested because I absolutely love games like Golden Eye, Perfect Dark and Time Splitters 2. First person shooters with objective based levels where you use all manner of gadgets, BUT the shooting doesn’t take a backseat. Your not sneaking around, picking off guards one by one with weakass weaponry. You’re blowing bad guys away by the truckloads with a full arsenal of satisfying firepower. While watching reviews of this game I was like “ok this looks awesome but when is the guy gonna bring up the issues of this game that makes it bad. Because this game gotta be god awful somewhere, otherwise people would talk about this game a whole lot more”. But to my surprise this game looks really top notch. Never knew Golden Eye was so regarded as the best 007 game so much to almost completely over shadow this game. A real shame I have to say. I’m definitely gonna pick this one up now and look forward to playing through it on the hardest difficulty, like with the others
The only thing wrong with it is it released a few months after Perfect Dark. Never had a chance. But do pick it up. You're in for a treat. Some of the best multiplayer level design on the console too, especially the unlockable bonus arenas.
brok2 ahh the fate of far too many games. Games like Blake Stone, a game built with on the Wolfenstein 3D engine. It released I think a week or few before DOOM. Another one is HacX Twitch n’ kill. Ironically just like with Blake Stone, this game was built with an engine made by Id. This engine was the DOOM engine. Now I don’t know if HacX got released before or after, but it was overshadowed by Id’s next game Quake
all the bond fps games from goldeneye through nightfire were solid gold. agent under fire might actually be my favorite, i remember that being the game that taught me how to use modern dual analog fps controls (left stick move/strafe, right stick turn/look)
Absolutly brilliant game. The multiplayer was king and I and my friends spent hundreds of hours in it. Different chas with different stats and different difficulties of AI, even Chas with special abilities like Oddjob and his flying hat as a weapon spiced it up and - if I remember correctly - different cha treats. SOme more aggressive, some more defensive, some close range,... The maps where divers, long range battel maps, short range tacicle maps, rocketluncher maps, everything. The missions are extreamly well done and varied. No sound sneaking, night vision shoting, rail shooting and so on. I can barely compare it to golden eye tho, as I did play golden eye but not enough to compare it. I did miss that 'the world is not enough' didnt had the akimbo weapon style nor the golden gun...
Great video and review! I liked this game when I played it back in the day. I think it is a positive addition to the Bond saga and would gladly play it again.
I love your work. You've done some incredible stuff over the years. If I can offer one criticism, it's this: when you tell me about some feature or particular design choice that you like, it would be great if it was showcased at that point in the video. This one in particular has a moment where you talk about how the voice acting is really good and you would never really know it wasn't the cast... and then you don't give us a sample to work with. Or you tell us about how satisfying and bassy the guns are... but then don't give us any sound samples. The Perfect Dark review has a few of these moments, too.
Wow, one review after another, nice! Coincidentally I was just playing this game a lot lately and only yesterday thinking when are you going to review it "oh well, maybe in few months".. haha
Nice video man. This is SegaSaturnGamer48. I use to comment on your videos all the time, but I still watch your videos. I'm a big fan of you. Keep up the good work ! :)
I've always heard about the game, but never happened playing it. Since I'm running a N64 Library Marathon, I'll play through this one for the first time, after completing Goldeneye 007.
This was one of the first video games I ever played. I remember playing it when I was really little and never being able to figure out what to do in the bank (or wherever you are in the first level). I would always end up shocking or punching some helpless person then getting shot at by the guards. Classic.
The World is Not Enough was, both as a movie and a game, Pierce Brosnan's third outing as Bond, not his second. Tomorrow Never Dies was his second Bond movie, and there was a PlayStation game for it that came out in 1999.
@@n64glennplant That's cool about your uncle. But I must've missed it in the comments. I scrolled down for quite a bit to see if anyone mentioned it before posting my comment, because I didn't want to point it out if one or more people already did.
I really enjoyed this game and found it to be very underrated. I had often thought that this game used a tweaked version of the engine Eurocom used in Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. The multiplayer in this game was fun, but the levels weren't quite as good as Goldeneye. However, it ran a lot smoother. A couple of things to note: First, if you played against bots in multiplayer, you could go up to a bot point blank and circle strafe around it. The bot would just stand there and you'd get some easy kills. Also, head shots from just about any weapon are an instant kill. Even punching someone in the head kills them. Second: If you play this game and walk off a ledge that's high enough to kill you when you hit the ground, hit the jump button before you land and you won't get hurt. However, you can't jump off the ledge and then hit the jump button again, as that won't work. Also, I really enjoy your videos, Glenn. I have 39 games for my N64 and I'll continue getting them when I can. You've definitely earned a subscriber. Thank you for the videos!
I remember waiting for the issue of N64 magazine where they reviewed TWINE and although disappointed it was not RAREWARE I still thought it looked great and was more James Bond and that was all good. I got it on day one and really enjoyed it, such a great game. Still it was not Goldeneye and the multiplayer never had the same charm. Still it was much better the TND on PS1 and it was more good James Bond and it holds up a little better in some ways.
While I still prefer Goldeneye, I always enjoyed The World is Not Enough. It showed what the N64 was capable of, in terms of graphical detail and sound production. Definitely agree that the two games complement each other fairly well.
I loved this game so much! Perfect Dark was always my favourite game of all time (I'm a twin so the idea that it was co-op may have helped) but I always felt this game wasn't as popular as it should be. It had some interesting sections such as the down hill skiing, some very interactive story elements and some really memorable levels! Especially the stealth level such as Elektra's manor and following the truck to the runway be Kazakhstan!
Great review Glenn, TWINE, Goldeneye and Nightfire in my opinion are the best Bond games ever made and TWINE has one the best Multiplayer to offer in the N64 besides Perfect Dark and Conker's BFD.
I was actually quite keen on seeing your take on this game, as I picked it up recently without having one of your reviews to rely on. Now, could you do Legacy of Darkness or Excitebike 64 next? Pretty please :3
been a whole coming but finally got around the time to recording it all, i actually had half recorded and then last year i got ultra so scrapped the old footage
I got this as a rental back when I was 8 years old and wasn't very impressed. However, I really enjoyed 007 Nightfire on the GameCube, and knowing that both games were developed by the same company, I really think I should give this another shot.
Probably the best graphics I've seen on N64. Then I guess this was late in it's lifespan and developers could get everything out of it. This game really is underappreciated and seems kind of next level compared to most of the era. Almost like a very early ps2 game.
What I found crazy was that it didn't even need an expansion pack to play, unlike perfect dark. Although TWINE needed a controller memory pack inserted to be able to save
the dj on the radio as a kid, his mum was going to usa and he said please bring me back some air jordans, she said she would, but the sales guy said that her son would much rather prefer these shoes called "brittish knights" as they were cooler than air jordans lol....... just in relation to your mixed game question.
It really followed the movie well, which was pretty cool when doing solo. Otherwise it's ok, though some solo levels aren't that fun, and I doubt people did too much multiplayer. They added some new things like adding objectives mid-mission, and watch functions. I would say they tried, in their own EA style, and did some nice stuff, but it ends up being ok.
Fond memories of the MP in this game, esp. on the Istanbul map. Lure someone to chase you down the long alleyway, throw a sticky grenade once they get halfway in. Laugh. good times.
I loved this game, didn't own but a friend used to come over and we''d play with. Mostly just with grenade launchers on. Guess back then we see problems with the games, just played them.
i had all the 007 games for n64 and psx, goldeneye and world is not enough were my faves, tomorrow never dies on psx was ok, never did get world is not enough for psx though so i cant say which is better but as long as its fun it can take my time.
I loved this game! Great review. This is the only other James Bond game (beside Goldeneye) that offered anything new and memorable. Even on future consoles. The stealth missions were what made it for me.
Main problem I got with the Bond-games after GoldenEye is that they feel incredibly stiff. Both multi and singleplayer lacks the funfactor that GoldenEye got. The music of the later games is also not near as good as GoldenEye's soundtrack.
I always considered Eurocom as the second Rare, their games certainly werent the kind of lackluster third party games that flooded N64, Duke Nukem Zero Hour also feautred a great quality as well did Duke Nukem 64
What I notice is that in goldeneye If you shoot somebody could see the blood on them and perfect dark took the blood a step further But in world is not enough you don't see any blood at all.
I actually prefer this game over Goldeneye. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Goldeneye and spent hundreds of hours on its multiplayer as a kid in 97. But Goldeneye is just too damn hard. I played thru it again to completion earlier this year and wanted to throw my controller thru a window lol. Its difficulty is highly unnecessary. TWINE has a fantastic difficulty no matter which setting you prefer and the overall graphics are amazing for the n64.
I got this in a retro store Gleen and the world is not enough looks really good on the N64 my friend i enjoy this game a lot i like both goldeneye and the world is not enough^^
Anyone else remember that it was a blue cartridge rather than the standard gray? That was pretty cool!

Now that being said. Not to dis either game's AI in most respects. I rarely see a game with "GOOD" AI. As I honestly believe true AI doesn't exist in a video game. I mean even something as awesome as Medal of Honor Front Line has AI as horrible as this game in almost all respects. lol
I owned both of these games.
@@tinabremer2020 Character A : *gets shot in the head dies dramatically*
Character B next A: *Doesn't flinch*
Nah goldeneye is best. It’s more fun than perfect dark.
I'm pretty sure my parents meant to get goldeneye but they didn't know the difference and just saw the James bond brand and bought it 😂
🤣🤣🤣
this game was amazing back in the days, had it as a child, even has multiplayer with bots and you can change fire modes etc on the guns, its a must-own for people who like n64 fps games
I think so too, theres a surprisingly good number of fps on the console
amazing how the minimalized and clean menu still looks somewhat modern compared to any other game from that area. same goes for in game HUD
Eurocom was amazing..
@Simon Chase agreed the only good thing about multiplayer were the bots
This game needs a remaster ala Perfect Dark for XBLA.
I always played with turok controls. The C buttons for movement and joystick for aiming. It was amazing!
That’s a popular way to play although for me personally I always preferred the stock controls on this one
Very underappreciated. This game looked DAMN good for it's day and was better than GoldenEye in most everyway, nostalgia aside
Especially that you saw Bond reload his weapon. I remember being blown away by that.
purestformofpeace Your on crack if you think this is better then Goldeneye !
One area Goldeneye had this beat was cheats though. So much fun messing around with them. However, this game did look and play better than Goldeneye, plus GE had the nostalgia factor.
Better than Goldeneye? You're crazy, the graphics in Goldeneye are far far superior. There's a reason it sold 8 million copies.
raz well the graphics in golden eye are not better than this bud
Glenn you're on fire!
As always a great, objective review. The game does look great, will definitely check it out!
I played the living daylights out of it when my Mom and Dad gave it to me that Christmas it came out and that game stayed in my N64 for a very long time.
i see what you did there ;)
Man I've always wanted to play this! Can't believe I hadn't played this back in my N64 days. :(
I really enjoyed playing this game back in the day
Me too
Content really felt like a next gen title. Everything that happened during levels and craracters. Sometimes mission(s) gets failed too easily, thought...
goldeneyes a little better but both bond games are excellent.
I completely forgot about this game but used to play it all the time. I always thought this game was way better than Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
one of those when i prefer classic n64 controller nice review glenn!
This game would be an awesome remaster. Like how goldeneye got the xbla treatment
all the bond fps games from goldeneye through nightfire were solid gold. agent under fire might actually be my favorite, i remember that being the game that taught me how to use modern dual analog fps controls (left stick move/strafe, right stick turn/look)
I did miss that 'the world is not enough' didnt had the akimbo weapon style nor the golden gun...
this game is in my opinion lot better than goldeneye, namely for controls and mechanics. it's alot smoother and easier to play.
Think I remember quite enjoying the skiing section
Coincidentally I was just playing this game a lot lately and only yesterday thinking when are you going to review it "oh well, maybe in few months".. haha
4 reviews in 7 days not bad hey :)
Love this game. Still have the cartridge 22 years later
Same here
I like that’s it’s a blue cartridge.
Nice video man. This is SegaSaturnGamer48. I use to comment on your videos all the time, but I still watch your videos. I'm a big fan of you. Keep up the good work ! :)
You're welcome.
Woah! This must be a real treat! You're just pumping out review after review! Good stuff Glenn Plant! Keep up the good work!! ^_^
Classic.
How on earth did I miss this one? Looks pretty damn good, even if it isn't Perfect Dark quality
I wasn't aware the graphics were so good! blows GoldenEye out of water! Now, I want to play it! Wonder how well it handles
I genuinely enjoyed this game. I played Goldeneye to death, and this was a great followup.
The World is Not Enough was, both as a movie and a game, Pierce Brosnan's third outing as Bond, not his second. Tomorrow Never Dies was his second Bond movie, and there was a PlayStation game for it that came out in 1999.
Yeah that’s a slip of the tongue as I’ve mentioned in the comments….I should know as my uncle was special effects on all 3 😅
@@n64glennplant That's cool about your uncle.
Pretty good game but fuck that helicopter boss fight
You're right 😂😂
The amount of different textures in one level, lack of fogging and smooth framerate make this the best looking N64 game I can remember
Been waiting on this one for a long time!!
Me too
There was a rifle on here that took a long ass time to load but I can’t remember for the life of me what it was called..
Since 2000 I just can't find my way through the vertically-crashed submarine of the last level without a walkthrough.
While I still prefer Goldeneye, I always enjoyed The World is Not Enough. It showed what the N64 was capable of, in terms of graphical detail and sound production. Definitely agree that the two games complement each other fairly well.
Ill take the sneaking mission at that Chatue over and golden eye. Master piece
Man, this was a great game, surprised it took you so long to review it
been a whole coming but finally got around the time to recording it all, i actually had half recorded and then last year i got ultra so scrapped the old footage
looks like an early ps2 game. compare this to the firs timesplitters for example
I always come back to your vids for a dose of nostalgia
Thank you 🙏🏼
I got this as a rental back when I was 8 years old and wasn't very impressed. However, I really enjoyed 007 Nightfire on the GameCube, and knowing that both games were developed by the same company, I really think I should give this another shot.
Even though TWINE is not as classic as Goldeneye it is still A great FPS game for the N64.
very, its a classic no doubt
I always loved this game. I remember playing it in 2015 for hours every day trying to complete it
It’s pretty awesome isn’t it
@@n64glennplant Yeah it's a solid fps and is actually a bit faster paced that Goldeneye it seems
Super underrated title on the n64. A great run and gun game.
I loved this game. Had awesome missions and multiplayer
Looks like I'd have enjoyed this if I had it back in the day. Looks like the Turok 2 to GoldenEye's Turok
Fond memories of the MP in this game, esp. on the Istanbul map. Lure someone to chase you down the long alleyway, throw a sticky grenade once they get halfway in. Laugh. good times.
I don't think I've played this game since (release year + 4 or so) but I remember liking it more than my friends did
yeah I think now when people cannot simply compare it directly to goldeneye and instead can look at it as its own game it stands out more
I loved this game, didn't own but a friend used to come over and we''d play with.
Awesome review! Recently picked up both bond games for $50 and get this, they were cib and in decent condition
Main problem I got with the Bond-games after GoldenEye is that they feel incredibly stiff. Both multi and singleplayer lacks the funfactor that GoldenEye got.
The music of the later games is also not near as good as GoldenEye's soundtrack.
That's the main issue with this game ---- it's INCREDIBLY stiff playing. Even in multiplayer it has a stiff quality.
I always considered Eurocom as the second Rare, their games certainly werent the kind of lackluster third party games that flooded N64, Duke Nukem Zero Hour also feautred a great quality as well did Duke Nukem 64
Got it at a garage sale.
Best $1.50 I ever spent :)
This game blew golden eye out of the water. Amazing graphics for the time, and the multiplayer could have bots which was fantastic for replay-ability
It’s certainly a fun one to play
What I notice is that in goldeneye If you shoot somebody could see the blood on them and perfect dark took the blood a step further But in world is not enough you don't see any blood at all.
this is running incredible on the n64 ! even with high resolution
Always enjoys your reviews!
