The voice impressions are spot on!
Capaldi is my favorite doctor, and I actually really liked 12's fumbling arc of finding out what kind of man he is. Jenna Coleman and Capaldi have great chemistry and give such amazing performances that on rewatch they quickly became my favorite duo. Even in episodes of questionable quality, their relationship is so genuine and tender it saves the show. Like in the end of Into the Dalek when he asks Clara if he is "a good man".
But yeah, I can see why a lot of Series 8 and 9 episodes were ranked low. Wish his run had better stories overall!
Despite my mixed thoughts on his era, there’s no doubt how great Capaldi is . He just IS The Doctor 😄
Did I just spend an hour of my life watching Jack try to stick post it notes down whilst rambling about Who? Yes. Do I regret it? No.

Finally had time to watch this and you've ranked them so well! On a personal level I truly love each episode from the russell t davies era just because it was the era I grew up with and was my first introduction to doctor who! Boom Town isn't that bad an episode and to be fair, series 5 and 10 are probably my two favourite series from the Moffat era! Bill is a brilliant companion, I think the problem with clara was that she should have left at the end of series 8! Great video, thank you for doing this! 😊😊

I have a distinct memory of watching Last Christmas. I thought "WTF this is ridiculously bad"
Then it hit me that this very idea is so dreadful, there is no way the writers weren't aware of it (didn't know Moffat's name back then). And surely it would be a part of the plot going forward, so I started to be curious about it.
And I was right! Having this kind of emotional "rollercoaster" already within the first 20 minutes is quite an achievement.
I rewatched it recently and still adore it for the audacity. It also has better aliens than most specials (though they seem stolen from various blockbuster movies...) and it becomes such a unique story.
To me, unironically one of the best Christmas Specials. From how you talked about it, it sounds like maybe you don't remember much, so perhaps it deserves another chance. But I'm aware not everything is for everyone :D
Except for The Girl Who Died. That one is "objectively" amazing. I also didn't know who Williams was back then, and I believe it only gets so much hate because the second episode is bad and people have set expectations about a big guest star. Still this is a 9/10 episode (that works well as a stadaolne without the sequel imo). Good story, good goofy stuff, good character interactions, David Tennant randomly appearing in 12th Doctor episodes, villains being beaten in a way that makes sense despite seeming silly, good drama, it becoming vaguely existential, a cool closing scene - it's got it all and is the kind of surprisingly good ride that I love to get out of mid season DW episodes.
Also I really like Once, Upon Time, criminally overlooked - it's so different and eery. The moments of getting to know the companions through surreal situations from their past or potential future work well and are simultaneously unnerving. Also the plot is perfectly alright I guess and we again meet the Fugitive Doctor, though only briefly. Easy A for me.
Anyway, people never seem to agree on any of these, but good ranking :D
Some episodes could deffo do with a rewatch, no doubt there.

Girl Who Died’s follow up really weighs it down and from what I remember the first part is strong, but unmemorable.
And I liked what Once Upon Time was trying to do but don’t think it really succeeded z

Not only that but to be completely honest his dalek stories were always better than Steven Moffats ever was

@@DoctorWhoReeves Nah its fair, all of the doctors have slight differences and thats why people have favourites and he is very different to the few before him so I am sure going from Tennant and Smith to him was hard after years of loving those.

Idk, just such a lovely time in a low stakes episode. And after the terrible wood people in The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe, it went back to that idea and made it look good. Similar vibes to Fear Her tbh.

I ADORE the dreamlike vibe. I've never seen anything capture what it's like to be in a dream as well as this, except for The Edge of Destruction ep.1.

Hell Bent starts good and then collapses into pure wank
When it comes to the beginning of the New Series, I feel like it took a few years to find its feet rather than starting off strong and tapering off. I’d differ from this ranking by putting Series 3 above either series to come before it, I think.
I also have the following hot take to bring to the table: I think the Timeless Children finale is much better than people give it credit for. It’s easy to let the Timeless Child concept overshadow the actual story going on around it, but there are some interesting things in there. You have the Cybermen striving to purge their organics to become entirely robotic, which is a logical goal for them to have, but should never reach. Then you have the clumsy but well-intentioned counter to Moffat’s retconning of Gallifrey’s destruction, somewhat repairing the damage that caused by restoring it to the way RTD had it, more or less: a dead world, lost to genocide. And even the elephant in the room, the Timeless Child, has a silver lining. It is a clear attempt to incorporate a version of the Cartmel Masterplan, which I was more than happy to finally see canonized in some form.
Interesting thoughts! I disagree of course, but that’s Doctor Who fans for ya. No two fans think alike 😆
revival makes me think that there might be a classic soon
I’ve only seen about half of the classics and don’t feel AS strongly about it, but ya never know 🤷♂️

Really liked this! Agreed with basically everything besides the Rebel Flesh and the Almost People. Honestly, I agree that the moral quandary is silly and not particularly interesting, but watching the pairs of characters interact, forming their little groups, etc. really sold it for me. Especially the boss lady.
I truly wish I could enjoy it, but I just couldn't get into it beyond the TARDIS team. But the boss lady was the most memorable of the team

Great ranking! One of y main disagreements is gridlock. I LOVE that episode and its an easy S for me. I don't know what it is about it because the premise isn't that interesting but it works so well for me and is one I often come back to re-watch.
It’s deffo an interesting one (even if I do stand by my placement) it’s a solid story with some great moments but just doesn’t do it for me on the whole

The most hilarious and ridiculous moment of growing up with doctor who was the time I was staying at my Grandparents and (they’re super conservative) I convinced my nana to let me watch the Doctor Who episode of the week (brand new), she hadn’t seen any of the show at all.
It was Love and Monsters.

The flying red London bus is ripped from Paul Magrs's Doctor Who books with Iris Wildthyme - her TARDIS is the same size on the inside as the out and looks like the No 22 to Putney Common and she drives it through the time vortex. Scarlet Empress is a good book with the bus in.

I respect the overall opinion of the series 2 finale being A/B tier but I will die on the hill that Army of Ghosts has the best cliffhanger in the whole show going in blind and the last twenty seconds or so of that episode are S tier alone.
No doubt the cliffhanger is top tier, but your gotta factor in… ya know.. the rest of the 2 episodes too 😆

Ever thought of reviewing each episode? Rating it in plot, importance, entertaining, etc. Similarly to the Ink Tank to reviewing Ben 10.
It already took a long time to rank em based on... Vibes, I guess? I don't know if I'll revisit ranking all the episodes in different ways for a while. But I've got some fun ranking ideas for the future!
Jack being the villain of rosa would be amazing but is definitely far too juicy for chibnall to handle
No idea if it would've improved the story (As it is solid otherwise overall) but would've been a cool way to get Jack back! (As opposed to the nothing of his re-appearance in S12)

I find 6-9 to be the time I fell out of love with the show for a while. Some bangers int here for sure, but I was like "ehhhh" to a lot of it.

@@DoctorWhoReeves I’m in the middle of a rewatch right now (just finished girl who died and it was amazing) and the Moffat era is where I got so much more invested. Definitely benefits a rewatch because there are so many little character arcs which are so satisfying compared to the rtd era, which I do love but not in comparison. Also, Peter capaldi has the BEST christmas specials. Last Christmas and Twice upon a Time are especially underrated

Its 2023 and people still saying girl in the fireplace is an amazingly written episode, when it's literally one of the most inconsistent episodes ever and the doctor seems to choose to forget he's a genius. Also, amazing love story? Not even have to be a fan of tenrose to know meeting a child and kissing the adult version of her twenty minutes after its weird, she also enters his mind without consent which is pretty ugh
