The best era of Who, and such a great line of toys.

I was 6yrs old in 1974 when Tom Baker joined doctor who, so this is my era that I am still obsessed with. I still have the Denys Fisher figures, sadly all unboxed except the TARDIS. Great video. My favourite yet x

Growing up in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I was able to catch reruns of the Tom Baker era thanks to PBS and that was my introduction to Doctor Who. As I grew up, I found other Doctors and the movies. And when BBC started the new era, I was ecstatic and I loved Eccelston, Tenant, Smith and Capaldi, and even absolutely loved Michelle Gomez as the Master. But Tom Baker has been and will always be my Doctor.

Tom Baker was my Doctor. Doctor who aired here in the US on PBS stations. We didn't have the merchandise, just the show and fan clubs.

The Bif Bang Pow line was my dream range, not only because of the Mego connection but because the president is my pod cast partner. I even had a little input on it.

Great video, Tony! As someone who grew up with the Character Options range, and still collects it to this day, it was very thrilling to see you discuss it.

Hey Tony, well done for finally bringing Who to your awesome channel & for having impeccable taste in collecting figures from arguably the best era of the show! I actually work in the Who Shop in London doing museum tours so would like to extend an invitation to you the next time you are in the UK as we have original props & costumes from the 60s right up to the current season

Tom Baker's first season of Doctor Who is, in my opinion, the best season. Not only did it introduce the most iconic Doctor of the classic era but it went on to reinvent some of the long standing concepts and characters of the show. The Ark in Space is a great story that mixes the futuristic science fiction element of the show with the horrific monsters that the show would be famous for going forward. Genesis of the Daleks provides an excellent origin story for the Daleks, introducing us to their creator Davros and really driving home the inspiration that writer Terry Nation took from the Nazis and the horrors of nuclear war. Robot served as a great introduction to the 4th Doctor with the security of a familiar UNIT based story to remind us that this was still the same show that Pertwee left.

I love Doctor Who! 70s BBC shows were my quilty pleasure as I turned in to several late nite PBS airings of comedy, mystery, and Doctor Who! Missed a lot of homework but I will never regret it.

One of the 4th doctor quotes that has always stuck with me, "you know, the very powerful and the very foolish have one thing in common, they don't alter their world view to suit the facts, they alter the facts to suit their world view. Which can be very uncomfortable if you're one such fact that needs altering" . Also "why is a mouse where it spins? Never did quite know the answer to that"

Excellent video mate. Loved Dr Who as a kid, Tom Baker was my all time favourite. Still collect some of the toys now. Great nostalgia video, my friend, top stuff as always. 10/10.

Great video Tony! Tom baker was my favourite doctor too! I’m just a little older than you (born in 71) so this is the first doctor who I remember. I also had the Denys fisher doctor figure, tardis and cyberman

I don't know what it is, but I really love when you post about toy lines like this. I guess it's that nostalgia I get of seeing something that to me is brand new just like I did as a kid seeing what new Transformers or He Man toys were coming out.

Tony, Tony, Tony! You've forgotten that Action Man himself appears in Doctor Who at least twice, thanks to the machinations of evil renegade Time Lord, the Master. Dating back to 1971, the Master's signature weapon was a device known as the Tissue Compression Eliminator (though it wasn't named as such until the 80s).This black rod-like weapon would not only kill people, but shrink their corpses down to doll size. During the Jon Pertwee years, this was usually achieved via chromakey. But when the Master returned in The Deadly Assassin as a corpse-like ghoul, having exhausted his regenerations (a truly excellent adventure for the 4th Doctor), the effect is achieved by using an Action Man, dressed in a miniature version of a Gallifreyan Guard's uniform. They used this technique again towards the end of the 4th Doctor's run, when he again crosses swords with the Master in his final adventure, Logopolis.

oh also back in the early 80s when i would see random episodes i use to think Tom Baker and Donald Sutherland in the 70s version of "Invasion Of The Body snatchers" were the same actor LOL
