- Hi and welcome back to the channel...👋
This week, we talk koi pond filters, nitrite, water clarity, and ballcocks. I promised to pay the Japanese Water Gardens shop a visit again this year and as I had a free day so decided to pop over to Nottingham in the UK to visit the shop to see how the changes they had made to some new tanks in the back of the shop had gone.
Couldn't help myself but look around the shop and pick up a few things while I as there.
Had to have a chat with the owner (Lee) as I always pick up some more knowledge from him while there...👍
Thank you to Lee and Wendy for letting me film the visit and yes I did come away with some more ideas to try on my pond and filters that you'll see if the near future..👏👍

Every time I hear Lee's voice it transports me to watching his videos on pond building over and over again. Nitrite info super interesting, I think one may reference this info & video in future. Thanks Lee & Andy. Nice video mate and excellent multi tasking 💪
Hiya, thanks for that. Yeah I've been watching his vids for a while. My pond was based on one of his videos. You wouldn't believe how long and how many of the in shop shots it took to record and edit together...😉👍
Well you did a great Job Andy, I enjoyed it and his pond video voice over build will go down in folk law @@KoiPondLifestyle

im here all the time lol, my local koi dealer.
Excellent..😉👍
I love going to Japanese water gardens it’s a great place, however lee isn’t the owner he is the manager, the owner is a woman called Wendy,
Ahh, I met Wendy. Lovely lady.. We had a great chat..
Handy having ballvalve but you didn't address issue of tap water having chloramine, chlorine, ammonia and metals problematic for fish.
Great point. Your way ahead of me, as I'm just in the process of creating a video the fitting of that ballcock on my filter and how that will be addressed. Watch this space...😉👍
Currently got ammonia and nitrite above ideal levels and can’t get it down, changed loads of water very little feeding and added EA start gel to nexus . Only had fish since May, is it just new pond syndrome? Any suggestions out there?
Sounds like your doing all the right things for a new filter system. Just some patients as your filter naturally cycles from new to mature. Balancing feed vs test results is key. Low results more feed, higher results less again. Mine took over 12 months and they recon the fully matured system can take a couple of years. It's not an overnight win with new filters. Stick with it and it will sort itself out...😉👍
Here's a video I created as I went through it. ua-cam.com/video/nKSzEfnj-NU/v-deo.htmlsi=lDd3Aa5sWkdxxoD3
Buy two and get one free very good deal if you did until the wife finds out the forth will be free to but alot more painful lol..but just a word of warning about bullocks if you fit one which I never did reason being you never know if you have got a leak or not from anywhere in the system or any part of the pond.. bullock's was made for toilets not Koi ponds 👍
Ball valves are not a good idea unless you have a solid water connection to the Ball Valve if you only have a hose pipe connection the back pressure can burst your outdoor tap connection to the house water system.
Really...😲
I would like to know just one thing why am I paying tax on my pension when I have already paid tax on it when working and from 2024 I will be paying a lot more tax.
Retirees will be forced to forfeit a chunk of their state pension next year because of the Government’s stealth tax raid.
One pound in every seven paid out in next year’s pay rise will be clawed back in tax, analysis for The Telegraph shows.
Under the “triple lock”, the state pension is guaranteed to increase each year by the largest of September’s inflation, wage growth or 2.5pc.
The rise will cost the Chancellor around £10.2bn, according to analysis by the consultancy firm LCP.
Former pensions minister Sir Steve Webb, of LCP, said: “Although the Chancellor faces a big bill for increasing the state pension, he will also see a boost to the tax taken from pensioners.
We must live in one of the most heavily taxed nations in the world..☹
