- This week I take a day trip out to Matlock, a small town in Derbyshire in the UK. I'm looking for a natural pond in the town center that someone said had 'bright colour' Koi in it. So there's only one way to find out and that's to visit the town and find the pond.
I also get a gift from one of my Subscribers that I cant wait to open.
A look at the remaining fish after losing the Showa the other week reveals how every one is doing..🤔👍
And, how is the blanket weed treatment doing after just giving the pond a half dose.. If it works it could save us money by getting more treatments out of one container..👍😉

You should of also visited Matlock garden centre and also blue lagoon aquatics both fabulous places to go and both sell koi if they are still in business which I think they are but not 💯.. plus I thought you wore stockings not tights 😂

Not been to matlock for about 10 years when i had my motorbike and i remember the pond having a few more fish than that in it. But matlock is a really nice place to visit. Stay safe Andy 👍

Hi bud, great video👍👍. There's an amusement arcade on the main road (nr the chippy) which has a pool full of carp at the back. All mirrors and common carp. You can buy a cup of fish pellets (was 50p, 10 years ago). Whether its still there may be another thing. I remember it as a kid
It's sounds like I missed a few.other Koi ponds. Maybe another reason visit is on the cards 🤔 😏

so just up the road from me is matlock.
i was going to do a full video on that pond, i even wrote to matlock town council about doing it as they manage the pond. it never materialised in the end. the water is natural spring water but the params must be sky high as people just throw money in the pond, hence the medical issues the koi have. you should of visited the aquarium down the road, as its built on the old roman baths and one bath has been converted into a koi pond. again using natural spring water so never any chlorine. the fish in there are amazing and you can feed them too.

Looked like some of them need some treatment, but in a unmanaged pond, you have to expect that.
You couldn't do worse than an Asagi. Very friendly fish. Most of the older fish in my pond are self-bred Asagi's, or off-springs.

Hi Andy Matlock is just down the road from me and I remember the koi being in there when I was a kid so over 40yrs. There is also a indoor aquarium down the road which is full of koi and you are allowed to feed them mate also the fishpond pub as a koi pond in the back buddy. If you ever go over again I could meet up with you. Hope your well and missed you last weekend pal.
Wow I wasn't aware there was so many other places with Koi.. Sound like I should of done more research before hand. Every day is a school.. Yeah if I manage to get back there, I'll let you know....😉👍

The only thing I do use is clay all the rest I already use
But I didn’t no about the hydrogen liquid & killing blanket weed with it
@baitking1 yeah , I've tested FOK to the brink and definitely found benefit from adding it to the pond.. For treats I believe there's no harm in moderation to hand feed the odd piece of prawn and enjoy watching the fish take it from your hand. That's a big plus of interacting with your fish...😉👍
EEEEEEEE...you are losEing it...haha. NIce bank holiday present box there. Be interesting to see if you think the carbon does any good. I use a bag that size on my 200lt marine tank..never mind the pond. What is that blue/grey fish at 8.33 and at 9.00. You should have taken a net and a freezer box 😊. Used the hydrogen peroxide on my air disk..came up really clean..well impressed. Wish I had a window 😪.

Hello Andy, Thank you for your interesting video, Visiting around the countryside. Our bog was completed about 4 weeks ago, Pool Water clear on Sunday. I’ll have to look for help on blanket weed invasion. One probable cause. Not all areas were full of gravel to above water level. Can this junk be vacuumed off and algae control be added?
Hiya, before you treat for blanket weed, try to get as much out before treating as it blocks up the filter systems when it's starts to drop off and there's not as much to treat. Did you watch my video of treating for blanket weed. I think I released it last year.. Well done with your bog filter...😉👍
Hum, that is not Matlock. That was Matlock Bath Matlock is the county town of Derbyshire, where the council hold court, it’s 2 miles up the road (a6), I used to go to that old swimming pool many years ago, it’s nice to hear that it is still there.
You should go to avillage called leigh Sinton near malvern a bloke put a bucket of koi in the old moat next to his house 35 years ago and there are hundreds in there now and there massive it's amazing

Yes mate the pond /moat it out of this world there are literally 100s upon 100s of koi in there all colours sizes if you do go I will get the street name up for you on Google maps as can't remember it of the top of my head but its defo worth a trip with the camera and take some food the couple that look after it will tell you the story of how it started there really nice and also they have a waterfall they made on the front garden that goes back into the moat it really is amazing

Try a filter bag at a local supermarket, think 50p for the carbon ,by the veg ,
Get a hospital tank set up on stand by can not recommend that enough especially with what you’ve just been through. Can pick them up for 200-500 quid they’re worth their weight in gold.
You literally walked past the entrance to the aquarium😂 Ive not been for a few years but some of the fattest koi ive seen are in there.

Be very careful how much of the coppings food you feed as it will taint you pond water great food but makes a mess of the water
Interesting, anniversary found the water quality has improved since feeding it.. however I have made a couple of adjustments to the filters, but no tainting as yet..😉👍
Andy at Darby koi was feeding it hes now changed food after doing a water test with tha different ones
