It's the whole eerie atmosphere even during each dialogue, which Kubrik perfectly nails. You can just feel there's something very bad.. but it's very hard to tell what it is. All the time it is present. Almost like the watcher of this movie could somehow shine. Everyone seems happy.. but there's another picture stuck on top of that. You couldn't quite see what it is. But maybe you don't want to see it. Because it's brutal.
"The Shining"(1980) is a horror movie masterpiece! This atmospheric and some moments very creepy movie is one of the 5 best horror movies of all time for sure!
Mr. Halloran is a very nice person and I love his smile when he mimics Bugs Bunny to Danny and until the end, I always trust him about staying away from Room 237
I couldn't agree more. To me he exemplifies his personality best in the scene where it's only him and Danny and very kind and pleasantly explains, "the shine." Remaining even tempered throughout, then when "room 237" is brought up everything changes. Extremely creepy!!! What do you think?

I was too sad she didn't get appreciation from her performance. Because she was better than anyone else could have been in her role. Such sensitive and vulnerable at the same time. Exactly the kind of innocent soul, who would start to shine as well when traumatized. And it was tragic that she really was like that. And eventually couldn't stand the pressure. Stanley Kubrik sure pushed her too hard, which made her performance perfect.. and at the same time probably hugely impacted her that she eventually lost her mental stability. But I'm sure Kubrik thought that she will get over it when the movie comes out.. and then she would get credit for it. It was just a sad coincidence that it didn't happen for her. Nowdays it's pretty obvious that we all love her character. But back then this was just one movie, what many couldn't see as masterpiece.
When Danny sees the Grady Twins at first, he is worried because he saw them in the vision. Shining would alsways be a great movie for me! The actors, the camera works and the music!
The freezer door switches from left hand hinges to right and the background completely changes, like they walk through the other side without moving. Amazing that all of this was shot on a massive sound stage. For years I had thought that it was a real building being used for a location shoot.
