Man….Thanks so much for this video- I didn’t realize that depending on the odyssey you own there are 2 very different tension release processes - most of the videos are geared towards the 19mm welded hex head and not this one (the 14mm bolt on the tension pulley). I spent 2 hrs trying to figure this out the other night and this is the BEST video on the two processes emphasizing the 14mm tension pulley. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

I did replaced v belt on both spring loaded and hydraulic tensioner pulley. This, what you doing is very easy. Other one with 19mm cast bolt is easier to move when wheel is of and you can access this bolt from underneath with long extension bar. You must lift slowly.
I always like your videos. Very well explained.
    Thanks

Thank you so much for differentiating between the two engines. Every video I watched on how to release the tension on the belt showed the J35A7 engine and I was going crazy because the tensioner at the bottom of the engine near the crankshaft was not available on my engine.

Just a little note, the pulleys have quite high edges to put the belt over. It’s much easier to put the belt in place on pulleys then get it over the tension pulley last since the edge is very low

That’s exactly how I did it. I almost got it on the power steering pulley as shown but I didn’t want to remove reservoir and push on the hoses too much with the breaker bar so I just slipped it on the tensioner last and worked easy peasy

This looks easier than shown. I just changed my belt and I found it best to take off the front passenger wheel to loop the belt around the crank pulley and ac compressor. The 19mm tensioner bolt is very tough as well. I had to get another person to help loop the top belt on.

Wow, Excellent video! This is exactly what I was trying to figure out as I'm removing my alternator. I have the 19mm under the tension pulley in the 6 cylinder 3.5 engine. I almost took off the pulley before I realized the purpose of the 19 mm under it. I tried to loosen the belt by pushing on the 19 mm but it wouldn't move. I'm going to try the slow push method that you described here. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wo! While the vid was helpful my 2010 didn’t go as plan as you made it seem. What worked for me. Make sure you have a shirt socket cause there is an aluminum line that is in the way if the tensioner nut. I had to unhook that line so I can slide it some towards the front of the vehicle. When putting it back in...I found it best to route alternator, to the idler pulley, then ac , then towards that big flywheel Effie going to the top. Really need two people so that once you got belt routed you need to put pressure on it. My daughter helped hold the belt in place while I push the tensioner and put the past part back to the top wheel. Picture was helpful though. It can be a pain getting your hands in the tight space. If you are a newbie plan about 1-2 hours lol. Been fixing car myself and still took me a good amount of time.

I agree with everyone else, outstanding video and extremely clear. I was also very impressed with how clean your engine is on the Odyssey. I have an oil leak somewhere in the area of the serpentine belt, and my belt actually shredded today while my Odyssey was idling at a traffic light. My 2011 Odyssey has the VCM engine but has the spring tensioner with the 14mm bolt head. Your diagrams were very helpful because turning the 14 mm bolt head counter clockwise to release tension seemed counterintuitive to me. Our 2010 Odyssey does have the hydraulic tensioner on its VCM engine. I had the same problem of the belt tool getting trapped against either hoses or the front sheet metal when the belt was off and I had to use a piece of wood between pulleys to hold the tensioner back to get the belt tool off and then use the belt tool in a different position to release the wood. When tims comes to put the belt back on (I am also changing the timing belt) I'll try to remember to move the PS reservoir to make it easier. Thanks
BTW, I have muzzled both these engines to avoid the valve and engine mount damage caused by running on fewer cylinders, and they both still get 24 MPG.

My AC Line is right in front of the tensionor pulley nut & I am not able to squeeze the serpentine tool through, any advice? The room I have to work with is extremely narrow, on every video, everyone has so much space to work with.

I had no idea there were 2 different engine types. No wonder I could not find the 19mm adjustment point

that engine bay is spotless for 85k miles, the wheels are also in great shape. Mine are peeling and look terrible. I am in the northeast though, looks like you might be in better climate.
