More great content sir! You are outpacing TFL! THE 3.0 performs much better with the 3.73s just like the 5.3 performs bettwr with the 3.43 verses 3.23s.
Great video - thank you for the review! Insofar as the tires are concerned - I purchased a used Ram 2500 a while back that had those tires (albeit a slightly wider config) and had told myself that I'd probably need to replace them after a few thousand miles. HOWEVER, 10,000+ miles later, the wear was negligible. They seemed to be a surprisingly effective tire given the price point, however it's hard to compete with Michelins (in my humble opinion) when it comes to fuel economy, overall traction in multiple conditions, and wear-rate.
The 3.0 Duramax is the best half ton engine on the market in my opinion. Now I’d choose one of the small blocks if they didn’t have cylinder shutdown tech for the extra hp but this would be the engine I’d choose if I went back to a half ton and I’d just take my chances on emissions. But I always like to point out that these types of trailers are just too much for the half tons. You can do it obviously but they are not comfortable on longer trips. The trailer will definitely control the truck.
@@adamh3272 I’ll clarify by saying “currently for sale”. Definitely don’t mean of all time. A pre AFM “LS” style small block would have to have some consideration atleast for that title.
Buy the extended warranty + the engine has an extended warranty already and I think it would be a worthy risk. I just spent a couple hours driving a Silverado HighCountry with the second gen 3.0 Duramax. It is a profoundly smooth and punchy engine. It just topped my list this week for the new truck I am buying. I could tell I was bonding with that engine as I drove it. So good.
You can get the max tow package on the 3.0 Duramax. You can't get it prior to the 2022 refresh, however. My truck is a refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra with 3.0 Duramax, max tow package, and 6.5 foot bed. Unlikely to find it in that configuration without special order.
Wonder what the EGTs were when you were flat out going up that grade. I was always taught to drive diesel by EGT temps to avoid bad things like head gaskets blowing. Always enjoy your content.
Previous video = truck is overloaded. This video = towing 6% grade! Overall = a real world test, because that's exactly what a lot of people are doing as they're not going to go to a weight station. haha Also on the tires, I've seen them a lot as they are a more price efficient choice from Les Schwab Tire. Other than that, I don't know how well they last.
Powerboost doesn’t use electric assist towing so it’s basically a ecoboost when towing with extra weight. Awesome reviews keep it up! Btw I tow with PB so I know mpgs suck lol.
I have been driving HD diesels for quite a while and even driven some loadstar big rigs and I don’t understand the infatuation with Monty to know what gear you are in with an automatic transmission… It’s very important driving a big rig but other than that the computer is doing all the work what am I overlooking?
There is a large GMC dealer in the St .Louis area and they do stock the 3.0 in Max tow. I may get one to move our 10K flat bed trailer when we occasionally use it to move hay and our tractor. Laura Buick GMC is supposedly the largest Buick and GMC dealer in THE US.
Im really hoping you can help me. Im in the market to get a new truck so here is the question. Im looking at the 2023 chevy 1500 with the 3.0 diesel and the 2023 chevy 2500 6.6 gas which one woud be best to tow 8000 pounds.
@csanders2486 A heavy duty truck will handle an 8K trailer better than any half ton. The heavy duty weight and suspension make a huge diffefence in towing. Also, the payload factor is a huge issue. You will run out of payload on half ton truck before you run out of towing capacity on their max tow packages. Remember that an 8K trailer will take away 800 pounds of payload capacity due to the weight transfer when you hook up the trailer
The 3.0 is not the baby Duramax it is the teenager Duramax lol. Also the lm2 does have an exhaust break it just doesn’t do anything. My friend has a deleted 6.6 Duramax and it’s crazy how much his exhaust break does.
I owned a 22 Trail Boss Dmax 3.0. It was an awesome commuter truck and really stunk for towing. Drank DEF like crazy and had zero top end power. It got hot towing and had awful passing power at highway speeds!!! Had to sell it and buy a 3/4 ton 6.4 Hemi. Night and day better!
@@floppyebrokent8578every time I research this engine people complain about replacing the belt at 150k (now 200k on the 2nd gen) The average driver does 12k a year, so in 16 years it will be an issue but most will have sold it. At 60, I will probably be dead before the belt needs to be replaced.
I couldn't help but see auto stop off on bottom left of instrument cluster. I hope to hell I'm wrong. Emissions and a start stop on motor will kill the motor
My LM2 came with the “Diesel Off Road Pkg” that included the 3.73 axle ratio and is the reason I purchased it. It pulls my 6k lb camper beautifully!
Off road package doesn't include the 3.73 that's the max towe package
@@philipjohnson882 You're right, but wish it did.

Poor oil pump belt design and not many with higher mileage to know how they hold up. IMO the Toyota 5.7 is the best.

Yes, but you can't get AT4 or Denali with max tow
The LM2 has the exhaust brake. You must have cruise control engaged for it to work.
That engine temp was a little warm for me. I’m usually use to them never moving on newer trucks. Not saying it’s a bad thing.
What was the weight
Would like to know this as well
Id like to know what smoked you pulling a boat @ 9:04 lol
Great AT tires. 3 peak rated. Be good video for you to review these tires in the snow.
Yet another engine smoking the 6.6 chevy😂 Awesome tests bro!
Question? When starting Duramax. Is there a glow plug light letting you know okay to start? 2024 Model? Thought you would know!
No light, push button start
You push the start button. When the glow plugs are ready it automatically starts. Same with remote start.
Yes and 3.73 gears
Not in an AT4

Put it into low. You will see what gear its in but it will not go into 10.

Better make sure you change the oil pump belt every 100k miles.
